I think this movie will be a waste of time. I mean, everyone will know that Jack will not die because they are making a new season and this movie is about between season 6 and 7. If Jack were to die, what would the new season be about? A Bunch of CTU Workers sitting around a table complaining about problems? Unfortunately, i believe this movie will crush the tv show.

No, Carlyle was mistaken and he has already been corrected by the show's executive producers in interviews. The prequel is a real movie separate from Day 7. It takes place a few months prior to Day 7 and bridges the time gap between Days 6 and 7. It is a standalone movie, meaning it will wrap up its main storyline within the 2 hours; however, it will also setup the events of Day 7. Day 7 will then start in January and will still contain a full 24 episodes just like the prior 6 seasons.

The writers "strike" again!

I have to say the even the worst of 24 (Day 6) is better than most anything else TV is putting out, but...

Fox has been doing the two hour premier to kick off the season lately, but having the premier several weeks before the season is absurd. You gotta set the hook quickly and keep reeling.

I thought Day 6 was a perfect setup for Ricky to be Jack's relief--how many of these crisis filled days can one man be expected to live through. For crying out loud, wasn't Jack captured (and subsequently escaped) six times on Day 6--even Jack can't beat the odds all the time!! If you're gonna kill off obnoxious good guys as well as some of the other good guys, the hero has to eventually succumb to the odds. Pass the torch already!

You can't look at it like the prequel film is 'the first two episodes of the series.'

You have to look at it like this: The found a way to overcome the problem of not being able to have Jack abroad in a normal 24hour day(season) -obviously because they couldnt have him on a plane for 10hours or whatever from Africa to America.

So what they've done is said 'Ok our seventh run of 24 will be the traditional 24hours of action. But to overcome the abroad problem we'll show two real time hours of Jack in South Africa coinciding with events in Washington with the soon to be Female President. Then when the tv show starts up in January we'll have Jack back in Washington ready for the days events.'

So all in all, we are getting 24hours of action. You just have to look at the prequel as a way to set up the rest of the day. It is apart from the rest of the series because it, I imagine, will be set a month or so before day 7 truely kicks off with Jack back in the US.

Lol Don't listen to the actor i'm sure this was out of context. Having seen the first 3 episodes of season7 6 months ago i do feel they are trying to give us the best season yet. Hint: Tony Was In The Trailers For A Reason, and a big twist hour 2 will rock you!

Actually, the movie is still coming but production is on hold. The two hour prequel is not the movie, it's the first two episodes of the 7th season.

I am a bit disapointed that the prequel will just be the first two episodes strung together especially since I thought it was going to be on weeks or months before the season even starts. It will really be disjointed and unsatisfying to have the first two hours and then have to wait weeks to see the next episode.

I am still hopeful for this upcoming season. I know a lot of people are groaning about an evil, alive Tony, but I am kinda excited. 24 has never even pretended to be grounded in reality and I always expected Tony to be alive.

As for a theatrical movie, I expect it not to be produced until the series ends. Unlike when the X-Files did their theatrical movie, TV stars have active movie careers during the offseason. It is probably hard to get the players involved in one offseason. I think a movie version of 24 would probably have appearances from Cloe, Kim, Audrey, and others.

It's not even really a movie, then? They're just showing the first two episodes of the season a couple months early? They're trying to hype it up as a movie but it's still the show. Stupid.
