We missed this one on Friday… Universal has released a new trailer for The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor on the Papa John’s Pizza website. When a movie trailer is released on a Pizza website, that should tell you a lot about the quality of the film. Too bad you don’t get a free pizza with the purchase of a movie ticket. Or even a free movie ticket with the purchase of a pizza. You gotta love those DVDs that include free movie cash. Watch the trailer below, and as always, tell me what you think in the comments!
You can also watch the trailer in High Definition on Papa John’s. The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor will hit theaters on August 1st 2008.

Well, none of the Mummy films have been Oscar-contending masterpieces. This looks like it will be pretty fun, in an over-the-top blockbuster way. Rob Cohen may not be the greatest director out there, but his films have been generally well received by fans (from Fast & Furious to xXx, not forgetting Dragon and The Skulls), Gough/Millar scripts are usually quite fun (Smallville, Spider-Man 2, Shanghai Noon) and the special effects look cool. I will certainly go watch this.

Oh no!
I’m feared this movie will be better than Indy 4.

This movie will be better than Indy 4, and I was always a fan of the Mummy and the Mummy Returns, so I’ll check it out. I’m not expecting greatness. Just fun. :)

If it has half a storyline…
Those first few shots look more Indyer than anything in Indy4.
Nice trailer (with movie trailer guy in over-the-top mode). It looks like a full (and fully realized) film. It definitely looks like fun. I always saw these films as having a bit of Harryhausen in them. It looks like Cohen may have captured that spirit. A freakin’ hydra…skeleton army…etc.
It’s a shame Wiez didn’t come back, but they did more than good in the draft.

Well, I’ve seen all the Mummy films in theaters but I’ll wait for the reviews to come out for this one before I pay.
@ Norman and Joker
I saw Indy 4 again last night for the first time since opening weekend. I have to tell you the movie wasn’t that bad seeing it again. But if Darabont’s script was used the film would have been much better. You’ll see what I’m talking about when it comes out on DVD.
Peace.

Gough/Millar did not write the script for Spiderman 2, they only wrote a draft for it and i doubt this will be better than Indy 4.

Looks better than the first trailer. And love the music choices.
June 23rd, 2008 at 5:04 am
It looks fun. I’ll see t on DVD.

no Rachel Weisz? but she’s so hot! love Brendan Fraser though, this trailer alone was better than Indy 4. hahaha!

This is clearly just another “atempting to be epic with dramatic music action movie”. To those who’ll might like this film: i’m sorry, but amazing special effects does’nt make up for the terrible acting and lack of a proper storyline and plot. This is in few words just a sort of remake of the previous Mummy flicks.

I’m not a fan of the Mummy flicks, so I am not interested in this
film. Maybe on a raining Sat afternoon when it’s on DVD I’ll give a
watch ….could probably make a drinking game to go with it…any
time someone says “I hate mummies” you drink.

This looks ridiculously over the top - terracotta zombie armies, abominable snow man, dragons… indeed it looks like it could be more entertaining than Indy 4…. and typing that is devastating - because I always said “at least Indy 4 will be a big step up from those Mummy flicks”. If this is the filmic equivalent of a Papa Johns pizza, Indy 4 was Metamucil mixed with pixie sticks……. I’ll take the Papa Johns pizza

I LIKED it! Bloody hell! Like’s been said before, I think it’ll kick Indy’s gray ass… the better of two evils, init?

MovieCash is pretty worthless, at least in the DFW area, as AMC has more theaters than any other chain, and they don’t accept it.

Not having Rachel Weisz in this is a real buzz kill. And then having someone take over her role as Evy is just wrong.
June 23rd, 2008 at 9:55 pm
It bothers me that they recasted Weisz’ character. But I’d still like to see it nonetheless.
June 24th, 2008 at 7:42 am
I genuinely am a fan of ‘The Mummy” series. Clearly, the fact that Weisz didn’t come partly reflects on how *amazing* this script must be. All I ask for is a fun movie though, must like the first two. Brendan Frasier is always a fun with his characters, and I’ve always thought he made Rick O’Connel come to life. Yes, there is no way in hell I’m expecting this to be as well written and fluid as the first two, but when in doubt, they can fall back on the whole monsters and undead army thing. I’ll gladly give up the whopping 8 dollars to see this flick. Should be enjoyable.

This movie sucks major big time. The script is utterly lousy. The characters are not the same characters I grew to love in the first 2 movies. There is NO chemistry between Brendan and the new Evy. The filming is disappointing. Wide shots might as well be photographs - nothing happens, no movement. Action shots are too close in so you can’t see enough of what is going on. For instance, the sole fight scene between Michelle Yeoh and Jet Li is too close in. You can’t see what these two martial arts experts are capable of. All you see is an occasional whirl of their arms, a twist of their torsos, and maybe a scowl if you’re lucky. Legs and kicks don’t come through because it’s shot from the waist up, too close in. It lasts like 2 minutes - a real disappointment give what these two can really do. The plot has all this contrived, cutesy gook and sometimes it contradicts itself. This is a HUGE disappointment - a waste of money.
