Spider-Man producer Laura Ziskin told theater owners on Thursday that Spider-Man 4 is tentatively being scheduled for a May 2011 release. She also confirmed that screenwriter James Vanderbilt has yet to turn in a final screenplay, but she insisted that Sony Pictures is very hopeful that they will be on track for 2011.
Director Sam Raimi has yet to commit to the project, and told press earlier this month that he is “excited to read” the screenplay, and is “hoping it’s as great as our discussions were about it and hoping it feels right”. No stars are signed on to the project, however Sony has publicly insisted that they want to bring Tobey Maguire back for the fourth film. I still wonder if the script and money will be enough to bring the original team back to the fold. JK Simmons has said that the studio has recently checked in with his agents to say they want him back for a sequel, and he’s ready to return if Raimi is still involved.

Either get everyone back, or hold off and do a reboot- No recasting.
…And could we finally let Dylan Baker be Lizard, please?
June 20th, 2008 at 3:30 pm
I was hoping for a fresh start. Spidey needs some new blood.
June 20th, 2008 at 4:00 pm
focus on making a good script stop trying to set a release date….that kind of thinking ruined Spidey3
June 20th, 2008 at 4:37 pm

June 20th, 2008 at 4:59 pm
So what? Spidey is taking on Captain America? Marvel cannibalism? smart.
June 20th, 2008 at 5:34 pm
Spider-Man 3 was a disaster. I’m not watching 4 unless there is very positive word-of-mouth, or if Raimi quits. Simple as that.
June 20th, 2008 at 6:22 pm
seriously, wtf is tobey gonna hold out for, a role as quazzimoto?
June 20th, 2008 at 7:32 pm
Sounds like Raimi’s waiting to read the script, if its good he’s on …. (I’m guessing the script was modified to include a larger 2 part film, and its taking a while to complete.)
Then its up to Tobey. Wow, he will get a huge wad when all is said and done.
Wouldn’t be surprised if he gets exec prod cred. (Boost his career in that area.)
You read these stories of Maguire and Bale reaching epoc statis, and then there’s Norton with the sore ass.
I don’t think Norton thinks longterm enough. (IMO)

Nice. Always ready for more Spider-Man.
June 20th, 2008 at 9:00 pm
C’mon Marvel… Just yank their license already.
Gawd!
June 20th, 2008 at 9:13 pm
seriously though i forgive raimi for spider-man 3, but he needs to get the original cast together for at least one more movie and then recast if they plan on making a fifth spider-man
June 20th, 2008 at 11:27 pm
Spider-Man 3 was awful and I’m sick of the cast. I would only be interested in this is it has a new director and cast attached.
June 21st, 2008 at 5:44 am
raimi better buck up and not make the mistake of letting the suits steer him away from a script he’s already approved. like he did with the third movie. if he doesn’t do that i think it’ll be a good movie. if not…

I feel like the whole world is under a spell with these films. They’re all monumentally overrated. Personally I think the core problem with the series is that the character of Peter Parker is an anachronism. He’s not a modern day everyman, he’s a dork from the 50’s. This was demonstrated with painful excess in the derailment that was Part 3, but it’s been evident the whole way through the series.
He hasn’t really changed or grown either, despite the fact that so much crazy shit has gone down in his life he’s still the same character. No shades, no darkness, just a kid that you really want to kick in the pants. This might be true to the comic character, but what I’m saying is that he needs to be updated for this medium and this era. If they can do that, bring on part 4.

awesome! more spiderman! im a huge fan!! tho i was upset that they killed off harry :( i thought them fighting some more woulda been good. and VENOM! ahh YESS VENOM MUST COME BACK! i heard carnage was coming as a symbiote of venom. and lizard guy, lol. well i think the spiderman movies are awesome and i would watch more sequels to come.
and i think KRISTEN DUNST was GREAT at being MARY JANE. i also think RAIMI is a great director. and the spiderman movies r great!
bring it on Spider Man 4!!

I would love to see another spidey movie, and think it will happen, with Raimi and the oridinal crew returning. It will be interesting to see the outlay for the 4th film, purley because I would of thought it would give some clue as to how far they are realy going to take the series - probible the best way of knowing this would be by the villans that are chosen for the 4th film.
The reason for this, is (without going too mega geek) that so far thay have stayed pitty much within the guidelines of the oridginal storey that marval dipicted for years and years in its comics. From so many stories, its hard to condense them into a few films, but the main plots are following the oridginal pattern. The scene is set for Conners to become LIZZARD, and for CARNAGE to make an appearance, reprising venoms role from the 3rd film. If you follow the oridinal plot, Norman Osbourne makes several come backs over the years, eveyone thinking he is dead only to to re-apper in some guise or another to get back at spidey and his family - but cant see this happening here as he’s been buried and they surley wouldnt carry on with the whole goblin theme. If MORLUN, THE QUEEN or MEPHISTO (in particular) come in to the plot at any point - expect there to be at least a 5th film - wont put the spoilers on it for any one who doesent know how things all end, but if none of these names pop up in 4 - not sure were they will go from that without draggin things on for ever and ever - just like this posting lol :)

I think Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst should be in the next
three Spider-Man sequels
July 22nd, 2008 at 1:47 pm
Anyone saying that they should completely re-cast for a fourth film is crazy. It would look and feel so so very wrong. Spiderman 3 wasn’t THAT awful and Raimi is a legend has given us the three best superhero movies in so very long! Tobey McGuire is perfect as Pete and the 50’s geek character he plays in a modern world works better than the 40’s/50’s feel that Tim Burton brought to Batman in 1989. A fourth film is neede if not for anything else than to tie up loose ends…MJ, Dr. Conners, Sandman?
Please please one more from the team, if one person drops out (especially Raimi or McGuire) then don’t do it or you’ll end up with Batman Forever!!!!!!
P.S Drink in Bunkers Hill in Nottingham!!

I would like to see the lizard in movie #4. Carnage i think would just be a repeat of venom. They are basicly the same thing. I would like to see either chamelion, kingpin, scorpion, hydroman, shocker, electro, and kraven. kraven i think is most likely to be paired with the lizard with an introduction of kingpin.
August 1st, 2008 at 10:12 pm
i already know carnage and the lizard is in it so that will be cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!im a huge spiderman fan i got every comic
