Focus Features have released an international teaser trailer for The Coen Brothers’ Burn After Reading on MSN. This is a perfect example of a fast cut, no nonsense teaser trailer which gets it right. And you have to love Brad Pitt’s “Appearances can be Deceptive” line. Classic. And why isn’t JK Simmons getting a topline credit? He’s all over the trailers. Tell me what you think in the comments below!
Official Plot Synopsis: A dark spy-comedy from Academy Award winners Joel and Ethan Coen. An ousted CIA official’s (Academy Award nominee John Malkovich) memoir accidentally falls into the hands of two unwise gym employees intent on exploiting their find.
Burn After Reading hits theaters on September 12th 2008.

With a cast and story like this, it could be the Super Coen Bros. best movie yet. Potential is through the roof on this one.

The music is one of the main reason why i think this trailer is captivating. I did not hear about this movie yet. I hope its gonne be better than this somewhat disappointing oscar-winning nonsene country-movie.
I visit this site for half a year now and i think its the first time i agree with you Peter. This trailer gets it right.

What song is that in the teaser?

McDormand is always amazing as is J.K. Simmons. Yeah why didnt his name pop up? Pitts been a pretty boy forever while J.K. Simmons has always been gold. Not to mention Simmons was in a very popular movie in the past year. Looks good though ill definitely have to see this one.

The music is indeed truly epic, its by an English band called Elbow, and the song is called ‘Grounds for Divorce’ from their latest album ‘The Seldom Seen Kid’.
And my moonlighting as an A&R man is confirmed.

Definate potential! Loved the red band trailer too.
Don’t agree that that’s all Pitt is, (Kalifornia, 12Monkeys, Fight Club and Snatch), but hey you are entitled to your opinion.
Looks “can be deceptive!”; and usually are, if that’s all you concentrate on. And considering Rena’s comment, that is the most appropriate line to highlight, Slashfilm!!

JK Simmons probably isnt noted because those are all the scenes he is in. Just like in NCFOM, Simmons could play a character similar to Stephen Root’s character… very few scenes and lines but still great.
