Vicky Cristina Barcelona PosterThe Weinstein Co has released a new trailer for Woody Allen’s Vicky Cristina Barcelona. The story follows “two young American women, Vicky (Rebecca Hall) and Cristina (Scarlett Johansson) come to Barcelona for a summer holiday. Vicky is sensible and engaged to be married; Cristina is emotionally and sexually adventurous. In Barcelona, they’re drawn into a series of unconventional romantic entanglements with Juan Antonio (Javier Bardem), a charismatic painter, who is still involved with his tempestuous ex-wife Maria Elena (Penelope Cruz). Set against the luscious Mediterranean sensuality of Barcelona, Vicky Cristina Barcelona is Woody Allen’s funny and open-minded celebration of love in all its configurations.” The film premiered at Cannes and was well reviewed. Kim Voynar called is “a lovely gift from a filmmaker who, when he’s on his game, truly hits the mark.” And Emanuel Levy called it Allen’s “most entertaining and commercial work since Bullets Over Broadway”.

The important thing to know is that Scarlett Johansson and Penelope Cruz get it on. Check out the new trailer below, and as always, share your thoughts in the comment section!

You can watch the new trailer in High Definition on Yahoo. Vicky Cristina Barcelona arrives in theaters on September 5th 2008.

how many times is Woody Allen going to keep making the same paint by numbers films with ScarJo?
I get it, he casts some other hot chick to foil ScarJo in a completely unbelievable situation (Scoop, Match Point & now VCB) and then insert some kind of violence (scoop, Match Point & probably in VCB).
This will be underwhelming to say the least imo.

Well, as far as the trailer goes, it didn’t look too bad. Not something I would make plans to see immediately. And, it didn’t have any actors trying to talk/act like Woody Allen, so that’s a plus I guess. It didn’t really feel like a Woody Allen movie, another plus I suppose.

Considering that I have not watched a Woody Allen movie since Deconstructing Harry, this could be the one movie that brings me back to his films. BTW, I almost had to commit suicide during Deconstructing Harry, it was just that bad. God help me if I get the urge during this film.

“Scarlett Johansson and Penelope Cruz get it on”
that is the important thing… this is enough for me to rent this. I do hope that there is nudity involved. at least a side boob or something like that.

This seems influenced by Hemingway’s unfinished novel, The Garden of Eden, which is about a man, his wife, and a woman who has an affair with them both.

    @Dylan

Did you see Before Night Falls? Love in the Time of Cholera? the Sea Inside? That guy from No Country has done alot more stuff than, you know, No Country.

Weird that Woody Allen’s name is barely mentioned in this trailer. Clearly they don’t want people to feel like this will be a “woody allen movie” in the traditional sense. I wonder though if this was Allen’s decision or not.

“Scarlett Johansson and Penelope Cruz get it on”
is that really the most important thing to say about this movie?

  11. Gravatar

    yes.
and if I were marketting the film, I would change the title to that.

I loved the trailer, very sexy. I’ve enjoyed Allen’s recent
movies, so count me interested. I didn’t particularly like the
brief last shot they included in the trailer…it seems like might
be giving away too much? Or maybe they were just showing
    scenes out of order.
