Just as many of you here I absolutely loved the first one. It was all I'd ever want from a horror movie - scary, intense, and original.

The bar is set pretty high, and I don't think the sequel will meet it, leave alone exceeding it.

To be truly honest, I think it'll suck. Bad.

Of course, you have to discount the original ending to even allow for there to be a sequel...

AW, WHO CARES ABOUT THAT?

I think it is great when movie can start right when the last one left off. They did that with saw 3. (which i still love). i'm unsure how they are going to have everyone return since a few of them obviously died. but again they did that with saw 4. and it worked.

I seriously loved the original and I'm not too worried about the sequel. In fact, I'm looking forward to it.

And I'll terrify myself again by spelunking the following day.

What made the first one so great (aside from the aforementioned charecterisation) was that is was so well paced and built up.

A large part of the horror is the colstophobia and the psycology that goes with being stuck in the cave with no chance of rescue. I can't see a sequal being anywhere near as good because the build up is over.

The police essentially know what they're in for, although I suppose they will assume Sarah has gone insane. In any case it lends itself to becomming just another typical horror movie; creatures vs the police.

part of me thinks this is dumb, part of me thinks it would be cool to see a bunch of dumbasses fall into a giant cavern with about 300 of the bat people ready for breakfast.

If they can just somehow merge that Brendan Fraser remake with this one, it would be awesome. Giant mushrooms and flesh eating batpeople...in 3D.

I thought the decent was good, except it was really only scary until you saw the little cave dwellers. Now that you know what they are, where is the creep factor?

one last thing: for me, it was not easy to watch a group of intelligent, independant and likeable women get slaughtered like that. i dunno if that makes sense, but when the typical slasher film kills of the typical guy or gal, i could care less. but the brutality and hopelesness this particular group of women faced was gutwrenching for me. just one of the many reasons i - and so many others - loved it.

Sounds intriguing with the camcorder footage.

Though the first film was brilliant on it's own, I am open to a tasteful sequel. Doesn't sound like they're just trying to cash in a'la Saw.

cannot say how important it is for me, when a film picks up EXACTLY where its predicessor left off. i am excited about that and the fact that so many original 'descenters' have returned.

yes there is the possible cheese factor of the flashback/camcorder buisness, but i'm keeping hopes high, because as you said, this was one hellofa movie: it was fresh, scary as hell, and i'm glad to get some needed closure.

i feel the story will be somewhat typical, with the cops and new spelunkers getting picked off by the creatures, but i'm looking for a unique element/plot/narrative that'll make it a worthwhile place to revisit.

I don't really want to see a sequel. But I remember when I saw the first Descent I was the only person in the entire theater and the whole time I was so paranoid that I was going to get stabbed.

Just as long as it isn't all handycam, I'm in. I like that camera style but it doesn't work that well with this type of movie. Would be too
