gotham tonight

Some new Dark Knight marketing has appeared on Comcast OnDemand: An 8-minute episode of Gotham Tonight, hosted by Mike Engel (played by Anthony Michael Hall) and an alternative Dark Knight movie trailer (which incorporates most of the new footage that was in the new IMAX featurette released last month). Engel plays a part in the upcoming film. It’s great to see even more suplimental footage using the real actors from the feature film. Watch both of the videos after the jump. Thanks to /Film Reader Josh G for the tip.

    Where can I find it on On Demand??? I have been searching with no luck whatsoever! :( http://tvplanner.comcast.net

    Is there a non-buttcam version out there?

    How do you find this in the on-demand menu?

    Anyone?

    Thanks.

    Can anyone explain this to me... Batman is under the Warner Brothers ownership. Warner Brothers is owned by Time Warner... Time Warner owns Time Warner Cable. Why does Comcast (Time Warners Biggest Rival in Cable) have a website dedicated to The Dark Knight with "Exclusive Content", isn't that a huge conflict of interest?
  • Mikey
    I can't find it on my Comcast OnDemand. It's very frustrating.

    Thanks for the post nonetheless.

    If someone could post how to navigate the OnDemand menu to access the trailer, that would be peachy.

    Interesting point made by Garcetti, Ill minded people don't just go quietly into the night. If you go out and take crooks off the streets with violence then the crooks will come right back at you with more violence.

    The theme of escalation was used at the end of Batman Begins, and it's sure to play a part in The Dark Knight

    Other themes: Less complicated is less corruptible, and calling Harvey Dent the "White Knight."

    I really liked this newscast, it really fits with the politically charged season, and with our networks.

    Why won't Harvey Dent appear on the studio?

    To find it on On Demand just go to the Top Picks catergory and it should be under there.

    @JK

    The "corporate world" is funny like that. Even though WB and Time Warner Cable are owned by the same conglomerate they operate as different business entities. They have their own marketing departments not one giant marketing department for all of Time Warner. And the WB marketing department does media buys with every cable operator and every network, not just the CW.

    Think about it this way: Disney owns ABC but you see ads for Wall-E on NBC, CBS, etc. And conversely, you see ads for The Dark Knight on ABC.

    Now, when you do media buying you also buy "local cable" and not just networks. This is for channels like TNT or MTV. The ads you see on MTV when you have Time Warner are not the same as the ones on Comcast or vice versa. Probably what happened is that, as an incentive to buy even more air time on Comcast, the ad salesmen offer WB free placement on their OnDemand service. In the media buying world that's called "added value." If you buy X amount of airtime we will give you Y for free.

    Hope that clears it up for you.

    @JK

    Also worth noting is that WB has to pay Time Warner Cable the same as they do Comcast when buying air time. Otherwise Time Warner Cable as its own business unit would make no money.

    Of course, part of the system is that the money is kicked up to Time Warner the conglomerate who gets to redistribute it anyway they want, which means the money WB gave TWC could end up going right back into Speed Racer 2.

    It's all accounting/book-keeping sketchiness in the end.

    Hey so I just read over on Cinematical that the Alternative Trailer and Gotham Tonight segment are available only for people who HAVE Comcast ONDEMAND. that would make sense as the video provided is obviously a camcorder version of the television set.

    I assume they'll release the video to all of us soon!!!

    Time Warner and Comcast are not rivals 100%, they have a lot of agreements and deals together so this kind of thing is not out of the ordinary.. many other companies do it too. Shared interest, joint venture, all this stuff is very common and there is not conflict of interest because both companies are getting paid.

    Thanks Yoji, it is right there.
  • Mikey
    Still no dice.

    I think my Comcast OnDemand just isn't updating it or it's hiding it somewhere in the Adult XXX movies section lol.

    @Mikey:

    Actually Time Warner sold the cable portion of their company, the deal my not be done yet, but it is being finalized, so that doesnt matter.

    Also there are HUGE deals that go on behind the scenes of the big media conglomerates, and it helps everyone in the long run, maybe Time Warner will get an extra channel on Comcast's cable system or something like that with the exclusive content, but in the log run, it will be more exposure for the Dark Knight.

    Also, I work MTV Networks/Viacom so I know these type of deals happen all the time.
