news now

If this rumor(s) seems like it originated in the mind of Captain Obvious, we see your point, but it arrived just minutes ago via a very reputable source/friend site, Latino Review. It seems that Marvel has a shortlist of names for their 2011 tent pole, The First Avenger: Captain America, and at the top is Leonardo DiCaprio followed by Brad Pitt (whose name has previously circulated for 2010’s Thor). This continues the trend of studios “casting up” in major summer blockbusters.

Of course, DiCaprio has a plethora of passion projects, most recently pegged to play Atari and Chuck E. Cheese’s founder Noah Bushnell, that could keep him out of the equation. Either way, here are some thoughts spanning the Net consciousness right now: DiCaprio is a good choice, Matthew McConaughey would have blown chunks as Steve Rogers/Capt. America; DiCaprio is too skinny for the role/shield throwing, I mean, he’s a really good actor though; What studio wouldn’t want DiCaprio to play a superhero? Pfffft.

El Mayimbe at LR says that no official offer has been made to DiCaprio or to Brad Pitt, the other A-lister being considered, but he hints that the trades might pick up this same info months from now. With The Incredible Hulk launching this weekend, Marvel Studios is on a rampage the likes of which we haven’t seen before. Personally, I think DiCaprio would be an awesome choice, nicely modernizing expectations for the prototypical American (super)soldier. Pitt would be the more popular choice with fans, I’m assuming, based on build and photos in office calendars. More on this as it develops… If you didn’t check out our post today on Marvel’s upcoming slate/Jon Favreau’s involvement with Iron Man 2, here’s the link.

Discuss: Who would you rather see rock the shield, DiCaprio or Pitt? Would Pitt be better for Thor or Captain America? How long before Daniel Day-Lewis waves at a stunned pilot in mid-flight?

Absoloutely. They need an A-list for Cap.

2. Gravatar

PITT PITT PITT PITT.

3. Gravatar

Pitt ’s build is much more suited for the role, unless DiCaprio can bulk up a bunch

4. Gravatar

Wouldn’t, say, Daniel Craig fit the Cap American’s suit a little better? Older, buffer… I think he’d fit better than DiCaprio and surely better than Pitt… we’ve seen what Pitt can do to a ’super hero’ (Achiles)… let us not go through that again, please…

5. Gravatar

Why not an unknown or a lesser known?

6. Gravatar

Cap can’t carry a movie himself. This isn’t Batman or Superman. They need a quality name to add respectabilty and get asses in seats.

7. Gravatar

I don’t see leo in the roll, unless ole Cap American gets into some sissy slap fights…

8. Gravatar

@sue as a long time comic reader… yes he can.
I’m not pointing at you in particular but it really irritates me hearing that so much about so many heroes from people who only know about the big 3 and spiderman.

As for Leo, I don’t think he’s TOO small. remember, everyone thought Toby was too small to play Spidey but he bulked up and they added the muscle suit… bam. perfect. Then Christian Bale went from 100 pounds to 225 of muscle in 6 months. Cap would have a muscle suit just like Spiderman. It’s very hard to get natural muscle to show through spandex unless the symmetry is in your genetics and in most people, well, it’s not.

Besides, he didn’t exactly look like a stick in The Departed. http://www.cineclub.de/images/2006/12/departed-2.jpg

9. Gravatar

Well, I personally wouldn’t want to see Daniel Craig in the role, as I just don’t think he has the look about him to pull off cap. To me, Cap has a more cleaner look than Craig, who would be more suited to roles of the James Bond spectrum.

But, between Pitt and De-Cap, it’s a hard choice. Leo has the superior acting chops in my opinion, although Pitt has done some nice stuff It usually borders in movies without a tone that I think Captain America portraits.

Ultimately, it boils down to the studio’s choice between a gritty captain America, Alla Leo, or a more sleek and simple one, Alla Pitt. What we also have to keep in mind is if any of these stars will want to come back for a big screen mash up of stars in the Avengers. We saw Pitt do it in the oceans series, so we know he can share the screen, but we saw if from Leo in the departed.

Personally, I think Pitt looks more like Cap, but would suck as a captain America whenever he spoke. So, who knows.

10. Gravatar

I could see Decrapio playing cap he definatly has that all american clean cut look that steve rogers has but he will definatly have to bulk up. Personally i think Matt Damon would make an excellent choice.

11. Gravatar

Word. I stand by Damon.

12. Gravatar

I would take Pitt for Thor..it would like him from Troy. I am not too excited about Leo being Capt America..just not big and tough enough.

13. Gravatar

I can not see either of them being Captain America. But I can see Matt Damon.

14. Gravatar

all these ‘casting-up’ ideas are great. and it’d be my geek wet dream to see all of those guys sharing screen time in an avengers film - downey, norton, pitt, dicaprio, + whoever for thor, etc.

HOWEVER…

they need to cast up MAJORLY in the writing & directing roles as well. all these heroes/actors need a fearless leader in that directors chair, or the best cast in the world won’t be worth shit. (i’ve said this before) but the two guys who’ve tossed their names in for the avengers film ain’t gonna cut it.

i like the idea of each series having it’s own team - writers/directors/editors/crew etc, and then handing the culminating avengers series over to someone else. someone big, and cutthroat, who won’t be intimidated by the overwhelming a-list & by then mega-successful cast. someone who won’t be afraid to say, “that was a shitty delivery, we’re not stopping till you get it right - i don’t care how successful you’ve been so far.”

i think freindships form on movie sets, and it can be difficult to tell yer buddy he/she can do better. i feel SM3 is a perfect example of raimi not calling his cast on some horrendous performances.

let the individual series play out with the same teams, and then give it to someone like cameron or fincher. i think guys like that - with the right script, of course - could make an oscar worthy avengers film/franchise. much like the zack snyder watchmen film we will soon have the awe inspiring pleasure of seeing.

15. Gravatar

@Hunter
Do you actually think LatinoReview was right about the Spider-man casting a few weeks ago and Sony just shot it down for fear that they were actually making a backup plan incase Maguire backed out? Because if they were wrong about that, what makes you think they’re right about this?

16. Gravatar

werent these two fighting for the lead roll of “World War Z”? (any news about that project?).

17. Gravatar

I think Cate blanchett should be captain america

18. Gravatar

Get the guy who was the Italian Spiderman to play Captain America
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UhHhXukovMU

This dude is fucking awesome. Easily 100 times better than DiCaprio or Pitt.

19. Gravatar

Leonardo DiCaprio as Captain America is beyond retarded. I would love to see an actor of his ilk to play Captain American but Leo doesn’t have the right look/body type to do so IMO and for this role I think it’s very important.

Matthew McConaughey I think has the right body and look though thats about it.

Brad Pitt would be better than both of DiCaprio and McConaughey but I’m not sure he’s got the right look either.

20. Gravatar

Cap is a better fit for Pitt than Thor, but I’m not sure either Pitt or DiCaprio are right for the part.

21. Gravatar

I was hoping they would go epic for Cap. Something like Edward Zwick directing, Bruce Willis as an old, over the hill Cap trying to find his place in the modern world with flashbacks to WWII. Not sure who could play a young Willis (except Willis) but Dicaprio is too skinny and Pitt is too pretty. What about Ryan Gosling?

Off topic but - Daniel Day for Sub-Mariner.

22. Gravatar

Leo is too short. Maybe before the serum. I vote for Mickey Rourke.

23. Gravatar

you know, I love Dicap as an actor, but for some reason, I can’t see him screaming, “YOU THINK THIS A ON MY HEAD STANDS FOR FRANCE?!” for the full force that pitt could deliver.

Dream team though, I’d say

Iron Man - Downey
Hulk - Norton
Thor - Pitt
Cap - Damon

Besides, Damon’s got it down with all the Govt movies he does, you know? I can see him being a modest, humble man, laughing and showing a big heart, and then I can see him smashing someone’s face off with the shield.

I wonder what other Heroes they may through in or perhaps they’ll just stick with these 4 and supposedly Ant-Man?

haha, I’d say Dicap For Ant-Man! I could totally see him casuing some domestic violence!

24. Gravatar

The Captain America-Brad Pitt rumor has been around since the first X-men movie came out

25. Gravatar

If Pitt becomes Cap we need to coin the term the Fincher factor. Edward Norton, Robert Downey Jr, Morgan Freeman all in Hero flicks… with Gyllenhaal’s name thrown onto many a table.

Damon for Cap or bust! Pitt might cringe at picking up Thor after taking on Achilles but why not; if they can get the Director of Adventures In Baby Sitting out of the dumpster to do it then my butt will be in a theater seat.

26. Gravatar

Stan Lee has allways said that he wants to see Leonardo DiCaprio play a major Superhero.
So that’s where my moneys on.

27. Gravatar

Gerard Butler

he needs a heroic stature, a commanding presence. butler has proven he can play that.someone who can fill out the suit. you want a big, deep voice to call out “Avengers Assemble!” a lot like “This is Sparta!”

Gerard Butler

nuff said.

28. Gravatar

Hey Matt… DiCaprio is 6′, Rourke is 5′11″.

There’s no mention in these comments about any of these stars not wanting to take on any of these roles. As far as mainstream success goes, a lot of these could come off really poorly / cheesy unless handled with exceptional care by the writers and directors.

I don’t see DiCaprio, in particular, signing on to do this when he has so many other projects on the table UNLESS we see some serious talk about the script and possible directors. As of right now, it’s just silly speculation.

29. Gravatar

I don’t like the idea of Leo, or pitt in the role. If I could post pictures here, I’d show my rendition of who I think would be PERFECT in the role.

Thomas Jane.

I posted the pic up at my site.

Pitt is too pretty and Leo is too short, Damon too shifty - he never looks comfortable in the roles he plays, always tense or to me, unbelievable (everything post GWH). - just like a few comments have pointed out. Jane has the build, the look and the demeanor to pull off Cap - Punisher aside ( chalk that up to a horrible script) Catch him as Mickey Mantel in 61*, there’s no doubt.

30. Gravatar

Hey Brody what’s your prob?
You sound like an angry dildo.

31. Gravatar

lol @ “You sound like an angry dildo.”

Also, fuck you. Hunter is great.

32. Gravatar

Tim Daly. Casting credit please.

33. Gravatar

I hear rumors that Triple H (as in WWE and Blade trinity) is up for thor.
Can anyone varify this

34. Gravatar

Didn’t I say this in a previous thread?

DiCaprio would be ideal.

35. Gravatar

PS

Nice choice on a Leo pic Peter.

ha

36. Gravatar

pitt or leo?!? are you kidding me?!?

Fu*K they might as well use bruce willis… NO DONT! DONT! I’d rather you use a Wilson brother. although i should be grateful its not John Cena.

37. Gravatar

Aaron, I’m hearing that Leo’s considering the role.

He’s the top choice and if he says yes he got the job.

38. Gravatar

@ gah

Per SM3, when a studio puts that much effort into shooting down a harmless Internet rumor, take that as you will. ;)

39. Gravatar

Harrison Ford for Captain America!

No, just a joke, Leo is my favourite.

Let Brad be Thor, or He-Man.

40. Gravatar

Niether of them should be looked at for the part, they don’t have the “all-American” look about them, they r brilliant actors, but be serious, there aren’t many well build actors out there, but in saying that there are some better options out there: Paul Walker (fast and Furious) and Matthew McConaughey, are both slightly more suited for a role of Cap. Leo could pull off Hank Pym (antman). Don’t think Brad could pull off a Super hero let alone an Avenger (ok, maybe Deadpool, Brad has that ability to be able to play the strangest characters)…Just an opinion, nothing more…

41. Gravatar

If we’re getting all fanboy’d out with casting this thing, lemme throw in my $00.0001 worth:
Thor…………………Paul “Triple H” Levesque
This is a guy with gobs of charisma and Thor’s a loud, boisterous god of fucking thunder (and Rock N’ Roll?). Triple H is a loud, boisterous bastard that wields a sledge hammer. Its natural, guys.
Cap’N America…….Matt Damon
Or Mark Wahlberg. Both are capable and can pull off Wholesome White American really well. I think something that should be dabbled with is Cap should have a twinge of what’s considered by today’s standard, some racist views. It further cements his fish out of water experience in the 21st century.
Cap’n Brittain……..Jason Statham
Kinda a no-brainer here.
Ant Man…………..Simon Pegg
Isn’t Simon working on this with Nick Frost? How will it factor into the Avengers plans?

42. Gravatar

Ummm…. DiCaprio is taller than Pitt, Damon, and Thomas Jane.

43. Gravatar

Funny: Matt Damon? Wasn’t that the guy where everybody was annoyed of BEFORE he made the Bourne-Series? I would love to see him, too but it’s funny how somebody can change from a complete douche-bag to a respected action-actor.

Brad Pitt for Captain America is a bad idea. Unless that movie turns out to be as sick as Fight Club, then BP is perfect :)

44. Gravatar

@Marc Shake …. yep, that’s what three fantastic action movies with some of the best chases and stunts put to screen plus a great Scorsese crime drama will do for you. Imagine that.

45. Gravatar

I don’t really like either Pitt or Dicaprio for Cap. Mark Wahlberg or Paul Walker wouldn’t be a bad idea though.

46. Gravatar

Matt Damon for Captain America (He was pretty good in the Bourne Identity series). Brad Pitt for Thor (Thor is Achilles with lightning bolts).
::squeals with excitement::

47. Gravatar

Out of the two I’d much rather Pitt. Someone mentioned Ryan Gosling above though and I think that could be a really fantastic choice. His last couple performances have been amazing and he looks like he has the frame to bulk up well for the role.

Matt Damon might be ok, but somehow he doesn’t seem “superheroy” enough. As for Paul Walker all I can say is please god no…

48. Gravatar

if dicaprio is cap, im never going to see another comic book movie again. honestly casting him for cap is just like george clooney for batman….

49. Gravatar

I second Danial Craig. When I was watching “Casino Royale” I was thinking he would be ideal. Even then as I sat there I factored in a few things. One of the bigger concerns is selling Cap to over-seas audiences. Cast Craig and that issue is greatly alleviated. Also I assume that any Cap movie is going to lean more on the “Ultimate” source material, this later confirmed by the use of Sam L as Nick Fury. That stuff is a lot less focused on “rah rah America”, again perfect for international audiences. Also the Ultimate stuff portrays cap as much more a brawler from the streets of Brooklyn type. Thus eliminating the need for a clean-cut aw shucks look. Craig has the look, the chops and the physicality. Plus I’d imagine he’s a might cheaper.

50. Gravatar

(just to say, Daniel Craig would never pull off the American accent)

either way though guys, i have to agree that Pitt would be the better choice over DiCaprio. im not questioning his acting talent, but DiCaprio would be too unconvincing for the role and, in all honesty, he’s simply not big enough. Pitt would be better, as he’s bigger and more experienced in action roles.

And for the love of god, Marvel, just let Fav direct IM2

and stop fixing whats not broken!!

51. Gravatar

Absolutely Brad is a prefect build up guy for this role, however Leo is a very good actor and his face is a prefect beauty for a super hero like Capt…
what do you think about a strong guy like Jason Statham as CAPT or another super hero??

52. Gravatar

I prefer Pitt over Di Caprio, he seems to be a better fit.
Or I would throw Ryan Reynolds into the list.

53. Gravatar

Brendan Fraser. American. Square-jaw. Decent acting ability. If not, then Damon.

54. Gravatar

Cap Am - Matt Damon
Thor - Brad Pitt
Ant Man - Someone said Simon Pegg… poifect!

55. Gravatar

They are all pathetic panzys. Hunter get off your crazy TWBB binge and Daniel Day Lewis.

Matthew McConaughey would be awesome!!!

Or I guess Damon would work. . . Daniel Craig is James Bond cant have Brit spy playing a American hero.

Pitt and DiCap? GAH!!

56. Gravatar

Joe, I agree about Ryan Reynolds, and so far, that’s the only name I’ve seen on this talkback that makes any sense. But he’s not as big a star as some of these others, plus, he’s playing Deadpool in the Wolverine flick.

57. Gravatar

Dolph Lundgren!!!!

58. Gravatar

It’s cute how people shoot down Daniel Craig saying he couldn’t pull off the accent or how you can’t have a Brit playing an American icon, etc.

How’d that work out for Christian Bale? Shut up.

59. Gravatar

1 word!

NEITHER!

both wud be completly rong for the part…no way jose!

btw pitt wud be cack for thor!

i fink cap needs a gd but not huge actor….aliek neal mcdonough!…who looks the right kinda age and look, also cus get to the correct physique

and for THOR i want completely unknown actor…cos of the style of film thor will be!

wens ant man rumours gnna strt??

60. Gravatar

btw Damon or whalberg wud be very gd for captain america also…kudos to whoevr sed tht!

61. Gravatar

Yeah but Christian Bale never played James Bond.

62. Gravatar

Brad Pitt or Dicaprio? How about neither of the lame duck actors, when has Brad Pitt actually carried a movie on his own? He sucks, plain and simple.

Dicaprio won’t make a movie unless unless his lover Scorcese’ directs it so he is out, and he is too physically soft to play Cap anyhow.

My choice for Captain America is Paul Walker, yea that right you heard me. He has the physical prowess and is a decent actor.

nuff said

63. Gravatar

DiCaprio as Captain America is fucking ridiculous.

64. Gravatar

Neither.

They’re both great actors but neither is ideally suited for the role due to their already established mainstream appeal. That’s something Downey didn’t have and it worked in favor of Iron Man.

In a nation of millions I’m sure Marvel could find an ideal blue eyed blonde caucasion actor to take the lead. It would be great if the pulled a gimmick similar to the one utilized in Spiderman where they shot a scene with Tobey before he bulked up, shot other scenes and shot his spidey scenes after he had bulked up. They need an actor who is able to offer such commitment to the part.

65. Gravatar

Captain America = Paul Walker

I can’t see anyone else playing the role of Captain America.

66. Gravatar

I think its obvious that nobody wants DiCaprio or Pitt.
And I also think its obvious that Marvel wants A-list actors for their Superheros.
We need to find a middle ground…. Stan (the Man), I hope your reading these comments.

67. Gravatar

Pitt and Damon in either the role of Cap and Thor…

68. Gravatar

THINK ABOUT THIS!!!

If Brad Pitt plays Captain America then in the Avengers Movie it will be a Fight Club Reunion with him and Norton. They were brilliant together.

Downey Jr., Norton, Pitt, and probrably an uknown to play Thor.

I’ll take that!!!

69. Gravatar

dicaprio is a really solid choice. anyone who is dubious about his handling of an action hero need only think back to their trepidation entering the cinema to see matt damon in a bourne picture for the first time.

anyone who thinks he is too young has the wrong age for steve rogers in their head. really. solid choice if it’s true, but i can’t picture dicaprio saying yes unless he adored the director and script, and marvel hasn’t made any heavyweight director choices yet.

70. Gravatar
dicaprio is a really solid choice. anyone who is dubious about his handling of an action hero need only think back to their trepidation entering the cinema to see matt damon in a bourne picture for the first time.
In general men cannot stand Dicaprio, at least any real men I know frikkin hate him including myself. Any man that was forced to sit through Titantic because his girlfriend wanted to see it will agree. I guess if you want to make a chick flick or knock off a Asian movie script, Dicaprio is your man.

Oh yes, there was no trepidation on my part the first time I walked into theater to see Bourne Identity as we all knew Matt Damon’s work from “Good Will Hunting”.

Since Scorcese’ cannot remake an asian script to film Captain America I doubt Dicaprio will be interested. Oh yes, did I mention I dislike Caprio?

Another thing, Brad Pitt has never been able to carry a movie on his own. He is a co-star period. He wont make a good Cap or Thor! Even in fight club Norton was his catalyst. Pitt doesnt have the chops to lead a movie like this.

71. Gravatar

leonardo could play a pre-super soldier steve rogers

72. Gravatar

Matt Damon would be a good choice.

73. Gravatar

Lets start with Captain America because we are all forgetting his character whenever we add DiCaprio. Who and what is Capt A? He is a freaken Army Officer… leader of troops. So whats the first thang he gotta have to pull it off… COMMANDING PRESENCE, leadership looks and one that DiCaprio wasnt born with… what we call in the military COMMANDING VOICE. Is that voice that when you stand in from of your platoon your men are eager to follow you to battle. DiCaprio by freaken far is no leader like that. Look at aviator, he was a leader… did his voice commanded to be follow… hell no!

PHYSIQUE wise… oh hell no! and no and then some no! People like to compare that Tobey bulked up for Spiderman… but Spiderman supposed to me agile, athletic, skinny but not like CA so yeah he pull it off! CA gotta be able to stand and without words you gotta think… super soldier body. Also look at DiCaprio’s face… he has babyface and most important… HE IS NOT MANLY!!!

Someone said that Bale is also another sample of bulking up in lil time… are you outta your mind? He didnt just bulked up for Batman. He was even bigger in Reign of Fire! That guy had some massive gym hrs before Batman, his body didnt happen over night so its a poor point.

Who looks at DiCaprio and thinks of him as a manly man? He is a cute face for girls plus all real men when we think of DiCaprio think of the 3 hrs we spent with our girlfriends pretending that if we had been in Titanic we would have done like how he did… what a laughing riot!

Now MATT DAMON… good actor and he can bulk up and has the frame… NO COMMANDING VOICE and its not just there. Paul Walker has the physique but he sounds like a surfer DUDE in every movie. He doesnt have the commanding presence… not yet I would say.

Now the James Bond guy… his face is all wrong! Plus I doubt he can hide that accent of his plus you are talking about freakin CA and you gotta have someone that you can see carrying the flag and stand tall.

YOU CANT HAVE AN UNKNOWN person doing CA because think about the Avenger movie… you gonna have Norton, Downey and whoever plays Thor leading this known actors and their characters. Plus he gotta look the part of leadership next to Samual L Jackson… anybody that put DiCaprio next to Capt America is not thinking who is he at the core. DiCaprio would be awful choice if not ridiculous choice.

The perfect choice or the best one right now it Mathew McConaughey … he has the build on point! He has the jaw, he can pull the military leader… look at him in Reign of Fire. Also he is all-american kinda guy and when you think of him you dont think of Titanic. He can do American fighting machine. If you want more proof and you saw Reign of Fire, he is a total CA when he jumps with the battle axe to kill the dragon, thats a CA right there.

Now my Thor opinion… give it to Bratt. Everybody is all about he can t stand alone and blah blah blah! Well I guess none of you read comics then! Thor doesnt have to stand alone in any movie… why you ask?! If you make a Thor movie you have to have Odin guiding the beginning of his story with his punishment to send him to Earth as a human… have Sean Connery do that! Then when he is on Earth and all that you gotta have someone that can pull Loki, that actor gotta be a real good one because Loki is all character. The fact that Thor is a God gives you the choices of having so many other Gods around him that will fill in the gaps if we worry about him as an actor. Thor has never led shit, he is just THUNDER and no gameplan other than lets muscle my way through it. Bratt can do the viking accent since he pulled that gipsy accent in that movie and he can do proud and cocky like Thor, plus the whole alcohol drinking. He can do the armor and he is 5′11″ so after boots he could be 6′1″ or 6′2″. As far as look:

http://musclemeasure.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/03/brad-pitt-troy-02.jpg
http://www.julielinker.com/wp-content/uploads/BradPittTroy_02.jpg
http://media.filmschoolrejects.com/images/pitt-thor.jpg

I will probably do a photoshoped art of Captain and Thor, just so we tracking on the same page… stay tuned!

74. Gravatar

Wow. A lot of dumb choices in here. Cap is my favorite hero of all time, so I’m just gonna do pros and cons. First, he CAN carry a movie alone. Cap comics have sold over 200 million copies. That’s as many as Superman, and almost as many as Batman, the best selling of all time.
Second: Matt Damon, who is all cons: no voice, no height, no presence; He’d be a better Bucky - especially as Winter Soldier.

Brad Pitt is straight NO-GO. For one, they need an actor who can ALSO do Steve Rogers, and Brad couldn’t look small to save his life. So Leo has a bonus for him there, because Leo is perceived as little (even though he’s 6ft, and was COVERED in muscle for Gangs of New York)

Leo is being reviewed as if he’s still the tiny kid he was in Gilbert Grape or Titanic. He’s older and much more muscular now, so he could work body-wise, and as an actor. He just doesn’t have the right voice, or the presence as commander.

Personally, I don’t think they need an A-List . Look at Superman and Iron Man. Brandon Routh was a nobody. Robert Downey Jr hasn’t been in the spotlight for years, a lot of young people had no idea who he was before Iron Man. Do that again: get a B-list Cap, and surround him with A-listers.

I’m voting for Sex and the City/CSI’s Jason Lewis. TV actor with excellent chops, chicks dig him, and if you google him and can’t see him as Rogers (look at his JAW, for god’s sake) then you don’t read enough Cap comics.

Then you cast Gary Oldman as the Red Skull (A List), and find similar stars for Baron Zemo, add the intervention of Samuel L. Jackson at the end as Nick Fury, get a hottie like Natasha Henstridge or Elisha Cuthbert to play Sharon Carter, and show her off a bit.

Bam. Blockbuster.

75. Gravatar

Also, remember that as of now, Nick Cassavettes is directing it … and he has a reputation for versatility.

This name came up in another forum and I have to agree with the guy that posted, it is a sound choice. This guy plays a lawyer on Boston Legal who has a chiseled frame and the kind of look I would imagine Captain America to look like! His name is……… Mark Valley

Wiki
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0885090/

I would be up with Paul Walker or my new choice is Mark Valley! On Boston Legal his character is an ex-marine turned Lawyer as well.

Matt Damon as the Winter Soldier would be brilliant, I actually suggested that in another forum. In the latest series of Captain America v5 Bucky Barnes aka Winter Soldier is a wicked character, hell he should actually have his own comic series soon cause he just kicks major ass! So yea, Damon as BUcky would be awesome!

WOW thats a most excellent choice the Jason Lewis guy. I dont watch SOTC so I nevah heard of him but for sure he got the best face for Cap A from the recommendations or ideas I read here. I dunno about how he acts but its also better to have a guy unknown to the comic audience and ‘make’ him the face of CA.

As far as Downey… everybody talks about him like he was a nobody or not Alister and whatever else. Downey has always been a great fuckin actor. He is no chump and he was huge before but after so much drugs and rehabs in the late 90s he fell outta the lenses for awhile. He always been good and in pretty much every movie he acts they got him in a complex role and when he is supporting he sticked outs sometimes more than the leading. He might be new to some kids and teens now but if you are in your 20s you should know who he is and definitely if you are in your 30s.

Same with Thor… would be cool to have a new face. Is always good to see a new guy that kick ass.

As I’ve made clear before I think Leo DiCaprio as Captain America is retarded.

I’ve heard that there is also some interest in Josh Brolin as Captain America.

What about Aaron Eckhart as Captain America? He’s got that old time look which plays well as someone who’s a super soldier during World War II.

I think if he bulked up, he would have the look of Captain American but then again I never read the comic books.

I have to agree that Mark Valley has the look down pat. Don’t know much about his work but if he has any kinda decent voice, they should place him under contract now and get him in the gym. The other Bond guy (I forget the Brits name) is also a solid choice if he could lose the accent. Leo is just too scrawny and Pitt is just not the SUPER hero type. But at least he would be better than DiCap. Anywho, just my two cents worth. Cap is by far the BEST Marvel character of all time IMHO. They better not screw this one up. I luv their casting for Spider-Man, Wolverine and the rest f the X-men even, Norton for Banner, and Downey for Iron Man rules all. Make the Cap movie something worth seeing PLEASE!

First off I really don’t think Leo would make a good Cap’t.

I think the perfect choice for Captain America is Jensen Ackles. Why? Because he is a toughness about him after playing Dean Winchester. He has the great American acsent. He has the face for it.

I think the main villain needs to be Johann Schmidt/Red Skull. I think he needs to be played by Viggo Mortenson. Why? Because he is also a tough guy after playing in LOTR, History of Voilence, and Eastern Promises. He also has a great voice for it, and would be a perfect villain.

So that’s my two choices for cast member:

Steve Rogers/Captain America- Jensen Ackles

Johann Schmidt/Red Skull- Viggo Mortenson

Yeah but another A-List star would make 3 of them for the Avengers movie.. Downey, Norton and DiCaprio/Pitt.. way too much for a studio/director to handle..

ryan gosling… great actor. can be buff. can be skinny kid. has played period stuff and action suspense stuff. was all-american heartthrob in the notebook. held his own as an actor with anthony hopkins in fracture. remember that, in wwII, steve rogers was still young like most of the soldiers in the war.

The studio wants American, so Daniel Craig can go suck tea and crumpets. I think DiCaprio could definitely pull it off, and well, surprising everyone who says he couldn’t, but I think it would mean he’d have to really enjoy the role, from the start. What about Kiefer Sutherland?

With the 24 status, he’s got a following, he’s American, and his build seems on target. Plus, he’s more mature and subdued, and passes off that “I’m planning here, let me lead” mentality. Also, in an Avengers movie, I could see RDJ respecting Cap like Iron Man does in the comics.
