There is white lightning shimmering on the Internet prairie today, as Turok, the Native American comic book hero/dinosaur hunter/video game is apparently headed to theaters in a live-action feature film. Actor Adam Beach (real name), best known for his roles in Flags of Our Fathers, Windtalkers and one of the Law & Orders, tells MTV that he’s set to star as the character after voicing him in this year’s animated, straight-to-DVD Turok: Son of Stone.

“We just finished the animated movie and now we’re going into the feature film movie [which should lens] hopefully in a couple years. We’re about to set up meetings to develop a script and put it out there,” Beach enthused. “I’ll have to beef up, and be a good guy, and save the world!”

Beach didn’t talk directors, but he did extend on his admiration for the character. This is understandable, my closet back home has admired several Turok Valiant comics for years (who needs a 401K when you have scratchy hologram covers?).

“He’s the first Native American superhero that I ever looked up to,” he said. “He basically [comes from] a family where they’re protecting our universe from an alternate universe that wants to take it over. He uses his wits, and his might, and his special bow and arrow to take over the world.”

For the rest of the day, try ending all of your quotes to the press with “world.” Dedication. So, is this good or bad news? FirstShowing poetically points out, “…no one wants to see a weak ass dinosaur hunter,” and something about Beach makes me think of A Sound of Thunder, a movie universally recommended to annoying kids by over-it clerks at video stores. Of course, with the right director, this film could be John Sayles’s Jurassic Park IV that never was. Will Turok win at Hollywood’s high adventure slots? We’ll find out in a few years. In the meantime, I’ll be following Wizard’s price guide wearing post-grad war paint.

    hell yes.

I agree with him about Turok being an awesome character and the mythos is great.

If they do the film, I hope it resembles more of the comicbook background where he looks more like a traditional Native American. Instead of some "bro" in high-tech black-rubber armor.
  • He went psycho on Law and Order so it's nice to see him still active, and i don't think Joe Dirt 2 is in pre-prodeuction yet. Kicking Wing :)
  • i can't believe this is happening.

Turok was always one of my favorite games. Dinosaurs were always my favorite. This could be a fun action movie. Rambo meets Jurassic Park. :P

Welp, that'd be great and all if Adam Beach were any more interesting than a burlap bag of Idaho rocks. The guy was painful in Flags of Our Fathers and overall uninspiring to watch. Ugh. He's the Native American Vin Diesel.

When is Far Cry going to be made into a movie? It's only a matter of time...
  • evan
Or how about this one...X-Men: The Videogame: The Movie. It's a movie about a videogame about a comic. That's Oscar gold.
  • mike
He is a terrible actor, brutal to watch on SVU and not much better in Flags...

I really hope this gets the big budget it needs....

It's nice to see he's enthusiastic about it, but I would go with someone else.

A Native American cast as Native American??!?! Has Hollywood gone MAD?!?!?
  • Floppy
    NTHGTHDGDCRTDTRK, sweet.
  • I really didn't care for Beach on L&O:SVU. Everytime he delivered a line it was liking he was trying to drop a deuce at the same time. I was glad to see they didn't renew his contract for the second year option.

@Evan: Sadly, Far Cry is being made into a movie by none other than Uwe Boll. So yeah, it'll be crap.

    THE ROCK PLEASE?!?!?!?!

Adam Beach is Canadian. Not American.

I worked with him on a short film when he first started out and the guy is so laid back. If you ever saw the excellent film "Dance Me Outside" he is very much like that character he plays in the film.

Could be cool. But Adam Beach is way too old already and in a couple of years?? Isn't Turok supposed to be young, muscular and kick-ass, not a laid back 40 year old surfer dude type like Beach? I haven't seen anything Beach has done that shows he has the intensity and physicality to pull this off. Probably will never happen anyway. I googled it and Beach has been talking about this movie for years! Guess since SVU ditched him he's trying to get some media attention with this "announcement."
