Jay and Seth vs. the Apocalypse

Seth Rogen and Jay Baruchel have signed on to star in a big screen adaptation of Jay and Seth vs. the Apocalypse for Mandate Pictures. The idea for the film began as an internet trailer that went viral last Summer. Jason Stone directed the viral video, which was written by Rogen and his Superbad co-writer Evan Goldberg. Variety reports that several production companies vied for the rights to the comedy. The story focuses on two friends who are cooped up together for too long and begin to get on each others nerves, while the end of the world happens outside. I’m guessing the eventual film will feel like an American-ized version of Shaun of the Dead, but instead of zombies the planet is invaded by monsters, and the duo are too afraid to leave the house. Watch the original viral trailer below:

It’s interesting to note that Mandate is actually giving Rogen and Goldberg full creative authorship of the movie and final cut. The search for a director has begun, and they hope to begin filming in 2009 with a budget estimated to be around $30 million. Rogen’s prior commitments must take precedence. Other Rogen films scheduled to shoot in 2009 include The Green Hornet and the still untitled Judd Apatow stand-up comedian comedy starring Adam Sandler.

GO AWAY SETH ROGEN. YOU ARE A STUPID WORTHLESS FAT DOUCHE-BAG AND YOU’RE NOT FUNNY. KTHANXBAI

  2. Gravatar

I am not a fan of Seth Rogan yet, But I’d comes off to me as one f the hardest workong pepls in the industry.

But this idea seems to have me and might be a good film.

  3. Gravatar

This is whats wrong with America. Pure shit like this!!!

But i will give Seth Rogain some credit, he does hustle his fat ass off…

  4. Gravatar

    Looks pretty funny to me.

Just so everyone knows, I don’t hate Seth Rogan.

  5. Gravatar

Looks like it could be pretty damn funny. I’ll watch it.

  6. Gravatar

    I’m game…

  7. Gravatar

    Why all the Seth hate?

After a shitty day ANGRY BROOMSTICK!!! allways makes me laugh …..

I have absolutly no plans to share the Apocalypes with these two motards.
How these guys get work is beyond belief.

I hated Superbad but I would watch this. And, I don’t know, everyone keeps calling Seth Rogan fat with a negative connotation but I don’t think he’s that big or unattractive. I mean, he’s tall. And this is coming from someone who prefers Machinist Christian Bale to Batman Christian Bale.

  11. Gravatar

Why all the hate? Seth’s just a lovable pot smoking teddy bear that wants to make us smile every once in a while, surely there is no fault in that.

  12. Gravatar

(No hate speech here , nothing to see, move along, move along).I hope my jedi powers work.

    Ok,,,,,
The reason I hate Seth is because I hate his films and want him to stop making them.
I don’t want to read about Seths new films because I don’t find his style appealing in anyway shape or form.
I don’t care if he’s smoking doobs with the doobies he’s a hack and shouldn’t have been able to sneak into this business in the first place.
One look at his shit eating grin makes me want to call security. (But that’s just me)

  13. Gravatar

Fair enough. Well if I’m going on my own to this one, at least I know you’re right next to me in line for the Dark Knight once it graces all of our seven senses on the big screen.

  14. Gravatar

The Dark Knight, yeah that’s gonna be a must see!!!!!

  15. Gravatar

anyone see the movie Nothing directed by Vincenzo Natali (1st cube movie) ? very similar idea…

  16. Gravatar

Look, you have to admit Seth Rogen is putting out more quality then anyone in comedy nowadays. Is it juvenille? yes, but at least you’re guaranteed some laughs. Compared to what other so called comedy legends shove out there, Seth’s is superior.

  17. Gravatar

Also a huge fan of UFO,
    Stryker!!!

If that’s where you got your handle from. Cool!
    If not, still cool!

  18. Gravatar

Do we know if (mini seth) Jonah Hill is in this.
I’m betting he is, or at least he’s on set near the craft service truck.
Thanks for making that motard a star. SUe that alone warrents his banishment. ;-).

  19. Gravatar

THIS IS OUT OF CONTROL. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH ALREADY. WHY DONT WE FILM ROGEN ON THE TOILET AND MAKE THAT A MOVIE. WHAT A JOKE. KID HAS ALL THE FINANCING, BUT NO TALENT. THIS IS WHY WE ARE WHERE WE ARE IN FILM. NO ORIGINAL IDEAS, JUST SEQUELS. WE’RE ALL SCREWED…. WAKE UP PEOPLE>? DOESN’T THIS STRIKE YOU AS CHEAP?
    In other news…

    CMON !! HIT ME!!!!!

  20. Gravatar

Okay, in your guys opinion…best comedy of 2007. Just curious.

  21. Gravatar

    I agree with CAJONKA!

  22. Gravatar

The last comedy film I saw was Harold & Kumar at Git Mo.
    It was ehhh.

Its been awhile for any good comedies in film thats for sure.

    Tv wise,,,,
“Weeds”, Its Allways Sunny in Philadelphia”,
“The Whiteset Kids U-Know” and “Human Giant” are brillaint oh and very funny!

  23. Gravatar

This movie will be awesome! However, I feel there are similar connections to ‘Y: The Last Man’ (minus the whole last man in a world of female dominance)… similarities consist of: the sense of humor, the ‘apocalypse’ of a sort, male searching for female… however, ive been a big fan of seth and jays since the undeclared years and together they seem to work well… im excited :)

  24. Gravatar

Why all the Seth Rogen hate? Dude just wants to get high and make people laugh atleast hes not some super douche like Dane Cook lol

  25. Gravatar

I always thought Jay Baruchel had good potential from his cameos in all the other Apatow productions. Now with Tropic Thunder, Fanboys and this, maybe he’ll make a name for himself.

  26. Gravatar

yeah wasn’t it Jay Baruchel who co-wrote Superbad?

  27. Gravatar

A great concept. Too bad these guys are hardly funny and will make it as dumb as it can be.

  28. Gravatar

JFive you make the only point in favor of Seth Rogen that I respect!

Dane Cook arrgsgggh. Gawd I hate that fuck!!!!!
Lol my ass he’s a piece of crap!!

Good call JFive. Ok I’m willing to give this film a chance. I jusy hope they give us a cool Twilight Zone ending. That would be cool.

    @ Gonjonka

this film is neither a remake nor is it a sequel. It may borrow certian elements from other movies (apocalypse), but if you say that that is unoriginal, then you coud say that every movie, book, tv show, comic, ect. is unoriginal.

Also at all the seth hate, He’s producing movies that are funny, you go see one, you will laugh at least a couple time. You go make a better film ( or make a script and distribute it online/try and get the film made) and tehn bash him

  30. Gravatar

    790,
Stryker is actually my last name but I am a lover of UFO as well

  31. Gravatar

This looks terrible. The “viral” is NOT funny at all. What the hell?
