The Incredible Hulk and Captain America

On Friday, we ran a transcript of an interview where director Louis Leterrier told G4 that in The Incredible Hulk “you might see Captain America Himself!” We saw the film earlier in the week, and were unable to see the Captain on screen. Leterrier later insisted to Collider that Captain America is still featured in the movie, but wouldn’t reveal the location:

“No, I can’t. Otherwise it’s not fun. Are you crazy? It’s an Easter egg,” said Leterrier. “It’s an Easter egg. It’s not like oh, it’s Captain America and it changes everything.= It’s still a Hulk movie, but it’s really Captain America and it’s there, you’ll see.= It’s the real deal.= You have to look for it.”

But in an interview with SOS Hollywood, Leterrier not only reveals which scene the cameo occurs, but also revealed that the scene was actually cut out of the finished film:

“There’s a point when Bruce Banner gives up on his quest for the cure and decide to kill himself. So he travels far North and reaches the Arctic Circle. You might have seen bits of it in some of the promos. The result was a very dark and strong scene, which Marvel, me and everyone else’s considered to be too hard to young audiences to take, so we’ve cut it. Having that said, when Bruce arrives at his destination he meets up with Captain America! At some point this week, we will make it available on the internet – but I cannot tell you where or when – and the material will definitely be on the DVD.”

Arctic scene fron The Incredible Hulk

Is Captain America’s cameo in the film somewhere or not? If it’s in the cut of the film that I saw on screen, then it is in the opening credit sequence which is done over a montage of clips which features a bevy of other great easter eggs including Nick Fury and Stark Industries. The Tony Stark scene which is being advertised on television felt like it was originally intended to be attached to the end of the credits (what they call - a button), but was instead featured before the credits.

There is a possibility that Marvel might attach the Captain America scene to the end of the credits when the film begins to play to public audiences later this week. Marvel Studios did the same thing for Iron Man, holding the Samuel L Jackson/Nick Fury cameo from the advance press screenings, as a treat for the fans.

  • So Nick Fury is in the hulk to.
  • Greyson
I'm in. He fought the Nazis for Christ's sake!
  • I don't think that the scene can be put after the credits, cause Bruce Banner - in the ending of the movie - achives something that put a smile in his face (regarding the Hulk powers)

when I saw the film this Monday, I thought for a second that Steve Rogers really appeared in a scene (where Emyl and General Ross arrive to the Pentagon). But i quickly discard it, cause' that can be possible.

But, maybe the artic scene is... before the opening credits sequence!
That would be a major kick ass surprise!
  • Jack: to clarify: Nick Fury's name appears on screen during the opening montage, not Samuel L Jackson.
  • Aaron
Ah, so he was trapped in an iceberg. Neat.

See that also ties into Titanic. The titanic hit an iceberg and drowned. Which killed Leonardo DiCaprio and sent many young women to the multiplex repeatably.

Marvel knows icebergs + handsome young blond men = box office gold.

    Leo is Captain America!

"The result was a very dark and strong scene, which Marvel, me and everyone else’s considered to be too hard to young audiences to take, so we’ve cut it."

    sigh...

I find it hard to believe that they filmed such a scene. If they did, wouldn't that make the Cap hints a tad overexposed? I mean, Cap himself, the serum, Reinstein's recognition, super-soldier Blonsky, etc.

It'd practically become The Incredible Hulk : The Captain America Prologue
  • I find it hard to believe that between the G4/Collider interviews and the SOS Hollywood interview they decided to cut the arctic scene. The picture should have been locked long before that.

Either Marvel is holding back a further scene or Leterrier is trying to drum up extra interest.

OK, so Tony Stark can drink liquor, get shot and bleed extensively from his FREAKING HEART....but Hulk cannot have suicidal thoughts? That puts the nail in the coffin for me. Hulk died in 2003. Enough Said.
  • maremagnum
While I get your point, Dan, I think that, if the rumor is true, maybe what they thought was inappropriate was the possibility of sending a message that it's okay to give up and kill yourself because even a hero got to that point when things didn't go his way. It's just a guess.

Bruce Banner finds Captain America frozen when he goes to the arctic circle to try and kill himself.
thus giving Banner a reason to keep living.
  • yeh...there was definitely no such scene in the screening. but if they decide to throw it in for Friday's release, I wonder how on earth that would work.

and was this a surprise to anyone -- Ross' people were using computers with S.H.I.E.L.D interfaces? I know Ross is the head of the group in the Ultimate Universe, but wasn't thinking he was in this line.
  • SUe
Wait, I'm so confused. Is it in the film or not?

Are we going to get a Cap America cameo in the new Hefner bio-pic?

    Whatever...
  • Captain Awesome
I heard the Punisher will make an appearence in the new Coen Brothers film. Not sure if this is true.

    Please Confirm or Deny.
  • What a tease! I was all excited too. Werid, all of a sudden Cap is not in now? Sounds Fishy!
  • john
just read an early review on yahoo that says ".....But it's the guy who walks through the door at the very end that'll really get the audience excited with the prospect of more superhero sound and fury to come."

    the Captain perhaps???
  • A.J.
Shit dude, I saw Black Lightening in Indy 4.
  • @ John...no, that's Downey
  • Chimaera
I'm just going to go and see the movie and if any other hero other than Hulk happens to show up on the screen I will just be pleasantly surprised.
  • Bano
if we are going too see the captain !!! he's maybe an old man !!! cuz the first avenger : cap. america will be set in WW2
  • 790
    Bano,
they (Military) put him in some sorta Cyro-animation.
So he dosnt loose any age he also dosnt age like normal humans.

Should be very cool to see him fighting nazi's.

    I hate nazis.
  • All I can say is this...I will not be leaving the movie theater until the lights come on!
  • Jamie Jay
wait, so if this is going to the the scene attached to the end credits, what's the other scene that's attached to the end credits that people have been raving about?

(I'm assuming that the Stark scene is part of the movie itself, seeing as they've let the cat out of the bag during commercial spots itself).
  • I've seen it just tonight and only stark was in the film and there was no clip after the credits so don't get hopes for something more just leave the theater as soon as the credits begins. the film was good anyways. can't wait for the "THOR". and oh, the LEADER was in the film.
  • Vykk Draygo
Captain America is in the backround. Check the scene where Hulk fights Abomination. In the G4 interview w/ Leterrier at 2:58 he is just behind hulks right hand. It is very fast, but he flips out of the screen.
  • I read that another person saw Cap in the scene with blonsky and Ross talking about the Super Solider program at the hanger. It's a poster and they pan down and it says Steve Rogers.

What happened to that Cap clip that was supposedly be out on the internet said, by Louis Leterrier?

This guy a liar or playing mind games? lol
  • Zayne
omg...just tell us where hes at how hard is it????
  • chad
