Favreau’s IM is the only one of these superhero films to embody the classic Marvel spirit and no other director seems to get this. The best case scenario is that he not only gets to direct IM2, but oversees all of the other Marvel films.

I think if given the choice he would choose to do the Avengers movie instead of IM2 and with the projected release dates so close together it would be impossible for him to do both and Marvel would push to keep him to do IM2 if they want him back. I think he’s hoping that if the release dates are pushed back he might have a shot at working on both…imo I’d prefer that he do IM2 and leave the Avengers to a more experienced all-around director.

is anyone even considering that this was a tactic to try and force Marvel’s hand in getting the deals signed with JF and RDJ?

To me he is saying that if they do not move on this now then there will be no way to do it in the time frame they want … I also see this as the first possible mistake of the new Marvel Studios. They have one hit and they are already (possibly) over-committing on timelines which will have the backlash effect of forcing movies into production before they are ready …

I assume you mean Spidey THREE? Two was the best of the trio.

And they do have to get Favs back for the sequel, he proved he knows how to do this thing right. They’re definitely better off waiting another year than rushing it and ending up with something that isn’t the best they can pull off.

I can understand Marval’s urgency.

Most people in the IM demographic have short attention spans (thank you PS3 and Xbox) so in 3 years most of the 14-22 y/o who saw the original will be saying “Ironman who?, that’s so 2008″ and the sequel will bomb.

That being said, you have to go with what the creative people say in this situation and not rush the process or it becomes one big craptacular movie.

really? why does the fate of this Avengers movie seem to be so important? A crossover movie. Big Deal. You guys (all over the internet, not just here) act like the this movie will save the world and all of cinema. C’mon, it’s got the lamest heroes anyway: hulk, captain america, thor, and ironman. Maybe, i’ll be proven wrong after the individual movies come out, but i can’t help thinking that i will ever see an Avengers movie as being this monumentally important. AND its four years away. Sweet jesus i’m sick of hearing about it…And the same goes for this Justice League Movie, too.

He probably wants a much bigger paycheck and hence still hasnâ€™t signed up on the sequel.

I am fine if Marvel decides to change the director. Maybe get someone just as talented as him. The harry potter series have done it so why not this?

—Jojo is the audience that DareDevil, Ghost Rider, FF are written for…buy a clue and respect that Favreau wants to take his time and make a good film. We don’t need to rush and ruin a franchise –I’m looking at you Matrix Reloaded / Revo, or just plain crap like Capt. America, Nick Fury: Agent of Shield to name a few.

Chris Columbus from the Harry Potter franchise didn’t want to do another film by the way. Was it about money? It doesn’t matter since in the case of IM2 Favreau wants to make it.

As for a bigger paycheck…more power to him since he is making quality product, it’s not like we are picking up the tab.

I agree w/ Favreau…I don’t mind waiting til 2010 if it means that Marvel will let the product have sufficient creative time. Rushing a movie for the studio to get paid is a bad idea.
