A new TV spot for The Incredible Hulk features Tony Stark/Robert Downey Jr. Yes, we all knew that he was set to appear in the film, but it’s somewhat surprising to see Stark placed front and center here before we even gleam the movie’s logo, the Hulk or star Edward Norton. With Iron Man approaching $300 million domestically, it’s obvious why Universal and Marvel would emphasize the seamlessness, novelty and quality assurance represented by his cameo/connection.
This is a new approach to marketing and might very well be a way to work with, neutralize or counteract spoilers. Expect to see more interwoven ads in the future as Marvel’s stack of in-house projects take off; and also expect more editorials by the pound from Entertainment Weekly bemoaning superhero films as even the mainstream marketing geeks out and borders esoteric. But for now: “Look dude, Iron Man’s on TV. What’s going on !?!?! Does Stark fight the Hulk? How is it 5 o’clock already?”

Marvel just decided they wanted to start printing money. They’re even going to be asking for 16 bucks for their flicks from here on out. Marvel is going to bail us out of this damn economy death spiral.
June 8th, 2008 at 1:40 pm
he’s supplying general ross weapons?
June 8th, 2008 at 1:57 pm
Universal did the same thing with their marketing department two years ago, when Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift had it’s Vin Diesel cameo spoiled in a commercial. Can’t believe the same studio is doing this again, it should have been left a surprise.
June 8th, 2008 at 2:20 pm
I bet thats the only scene Stark is in. I bet its not even talking about once we see the movie.
June 8th, 2008 at 2:27 pm
Tony Stark appears at the end of the movie.
June 8th, 2008 at 2:30 pm
They probably have a few other tricks up there sleeve. Maybe a Captain America cameo, S.H.I.E.L.D, ect. So, I would say this is good marketing on there part to entice the Iron Man fans to watch. So far good reviews, good marketing, good everything cant wait to watch.
June 8th, 2008 at 2:38 pm
The early reviews are in. S.H.I.E.L.D. is in the movie. They say, it’s on the same level as Iron Man or better. The director said, Captain America will appear in the movie too but from early screenings, Cap didn’t show up.
The director also said, that there will be an extra scene after the credits like Iron Man. I assume that is when Captain American/Steve Rogers will appear.
June 8th, 2008 at 2:40 pm
I AM IRON MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
June 8th, 2008 at 2:41 pm
Holy. Shit. That is awesome.
June 8th, 2008 at 2:53 pm
Regarding Cap’s appearance, they’ll probably just mention Steve Rogers, obviously there isn’t an actor they’ve chosen yet.
June 8th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
wow, the hulk must be terrible and they are getting desperate
June 8th, 2008 at 3:06 pm
According the director in a interview I saw. He said, Cap might appear. If he’s in costume. It doesn’t matter if they have chosen an actor yet. It could be shot in a way that it doesn’t show a specific actor.

Its nice to see that Marvel is reading this site and others like it.
I, reccomended that they do this back a month ago.
By putting Iron Man/ Stark in the trailers they are guranteed a huge weekend.
Prob close to 100 mil I’m saying 97mil. This film will also have alot of repeat biz.

June 8th, 2008 at 4:30 pm
@790
Well thank god you said it about a month ago, or I’m sure they would never have thought of this.
At all.
Nope, never.
June 8th, 2008 at 5:05 pm
Yeah well I didn’t say I was responsable just that I’m glad Marvel reads this site and others.
But thanks anyway Mes.

ROBEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERT *drool*
:D
June 8th, 2008 at 6:06 pm
I know some people don’t like how they spoiled a spoiler but let’s face it this was the worst kept secret in comic book movies since finding out the Joker was going to be in The Dark Knight.
June 8th, 2008 at 7:18 pm
Downey sjhows as IRONMAN as well.
June 8th, 2008 at 7:32 pm
I would expect to see more of Iron Man in Hulk.
They need to setup a relationship for the Avengers film.
I doubt they’ll do a Incredible Hulk sequel between now and the Avengers film, that is if Avengers is coming out in 2010…..
Can’t wait to see Hulk now. Few weeks ago I was like, meh?
June 8th, 2008 at 7:34 pm
This time we know why Banner is Hulk, this film dosnt deal with any orgin BS it goes right into the action.
Takes place 5 years after the last film and this time Hulk is the Hero!!!!
Can’t wait to see Hulk!!
June 8th, 2008 at 8:34 pm
does’nt matter who’s in the film. cgi hulk still sucks
June 8th, 2008 at 8:43 pm
How is a all CGI hulk going to suck?
Yeah suck in about 100 million +
Did you expect a real buff actor to fill in for Norton when he hulks out like on the old tv show??
June 8th, 2008 at 9:22 pm
Someday we may move into territory where Tony Stark will just start popping up in the trailers for every movie released.
Of course, a smarter move would be to have Mikaela Banes pop up half naked.
June 8th, 2008 at 9:28 pm
Good one Gocitizen! Lol.
June 8th, 2008 at 9:34 pm
now im just waiting for
SPIDER-MAN VS IRONMAN movie…
June 8th, 2008 at 9:40 pm
You bring up a good point Afa, I bet you 16 bucks that Marvel incorporates Tobey’s Spiderman into the Avengers film.
I bet they shoot the scenes at the same time they shoot the Spider Man 4 & 5 films….
How cool would that be!
June 8th, 2008 at 10:04 pm
They can’t really happen since Sony owns the movie rights to Spider-Man, unless they made some kind of deal but that would be cool! Plus throw in a few X-Men and Fantastic Four while they are at it.
June 8th, 2008 at 10:07 pm
Yeah I see your point MayhemStudios, but ya never know.
If more people online bring it up it could happen.
Marvel owns partial control over Spider Man.
June 8th, 2008 at 10:33 pm
I wish Marvel can somehow get back all the movie rights to their properties. That way, you know all will have a tie and be great! :)
June 8th, 2008 at 10:39 pm
Don’t forget MeyhamStudios that Sony and Marvel both want the same thing….$$$$$
I think were good for Spidey in Avengers!
At least a brief cameo or more who knows?
Hopefully this concept gets more buzz and we can all make it happen!!!

I love that all of the people involved in making Marvel movies including the actors have sold out to make these movies. It seems the main purpose is to keep the Marvel Universe in tacked. I know Robert Downey Jr. is glad and willing to play Iron Man for many more movies. I believe Edward Norton is the same way with the Hulk. I will to bet that who ever they get for Captain America, Thor, Ant-Man, Wasp, and any other Avengers will be willing to come back and do more films in doing so keeping the Marvel Universe pure. Having Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark in these movies purifies the Marvel Universe even more. I like the plan for Marvel studio for the next five years, for each new movie they make they introduce a new character (founding members of the Avengers) leading up to the Avengers movie.
June 9th, 2008 at 12:23 am
It also helps that these actors also are comic books fans and grew up reading comics.
June 9th, 2008 at 7:41 pm
They’re setting up the Avengers Initiative, which is a certain group of superheroes. The heroes are Iron Man, Hulk, Wasp, Thor, and Ant-Man.
June 15th, 2008 at 11:41 am
and captain america. next summer’s movies include thor and captian america supposedly. all leading to the avengers 2011.
June 15th, 2008 at 8:21 pm
When General Ross was discussing the super soldier serum created in WWII…..did anyone else think Captain America? Also the serum he pulls out from storage has Dr. Reinstein written on the label….the guy who created Captain America!!!!!!!!!! They are doing, they are creating the marvel universe….and it’s amazing to see it happening.
June 17th, 2008 at 12:33 pm
if they do make a Spider-man vs. Iron Man movie I bet that Iron Man would win
June 21st, 2008 at 11:14 pm
I .. want to be.. IN Ironman.. not the suit.. in Tony starks.. in and out .. over and over!! :D he’s a tall dark drink of water.. and guess what? IM THIRSTY!!!
June 23rd, 2008 at 9:39 am
Just wondering, why does Tony Stark approach General Ross about the avengers? Shouldn’t it be Nick Fury, though he did appear in the Iron Man movie?
When Stark stated that Ross had a problem - was he referring to the HULK or Abomination?
I did think of Captain America when the serum was mentioned by the way!
June 30th, 2008 at 3:16 pm
They need a black man to play the role as Cap America. All the super hero’s cant be white. We need a Asian, and Mexican one too. maybe Thor could be Jamaican and Wasp could be Indian.
I think Marvel is racist……….:(
July 6th, 2008 at 5:51 pm
I probably figured it out, even if I just saw it a few hours ago. Every single Marvel comic on the big screen will join together like in that TV show. Every Marvel Comic fought together against every Marvel villan.
September 3rd, 2008 at 1:32 pm
I saw the movie. The only thing that gets me is. At the end of the movie is sounds like Stark (aka Iron Man) is going to go against him or something like that. But then again its just me thinking. Hope it isn’s so because both hulk and iron man are really gud.
