I’m sure that “Demon in a Bottle” storyline is probably a compelling one and I’ll probably enjoy HANCOCK as well, but you need a bad guy!

Haven’t we learnt anything from the first HULK film? It’s obvious that Marvel has so at least that’s something…

@ anyone who thinks Hancock will bomb: You’re an idiot. Will Smith is box office gold. He pulls people in to see crap like Pursuit of Happyness and Hitch. He’ll pull this off too. Plus you’ve got Peter Berg who is solid as can be.

@ Favs: Could Iron Man 3 BE The Avengers. You could shoot them simultaneously. IM2 could end with Iron Man losing ala Empire Strikes Back and The Avengers is his way of coming out on top in the end.

i think we need someone else to do The Avengers. nothing against Fav, i just think it’s such a broad range of storytelling, and the amount of character and story juggling that would be involved is too epic for the untested Fav. james cameron could do this in his sleep, and would be my first choice. but sadly i think that’s just wishful thinking.

Hancock will bomb. He has nothing to worry about with that film in terms of the DIAB storyarch.

But knowing Marvel’s track record of trying to Disney-fy all their franchises to make them as marketable as possible is the one issue that will ulltimately come down to how the sequel turns out. The problem is when Marvel finally does get a “good” thing, they end up ruining it. So I hope for the most part Fav has enough power to tug it from them without them turning it into a Spider-Man shitfest.

Personally, I think some of the Demon in a Bottle storyline will pop up in the sequel. After The Dark Knight slays this summer, and possibly overtakes Iron Man’s gross, it will be hard for Marvel to argue that darker storylines aren’t mainstream.

The one thing I haven’t seen anyone ask Fav is how he’d incorporate DIAB into the light-on-the-feet comedic tone of the first film. Also, I don’t think Fav sounded too jaded about doing it - he seems more concerned with Marvel rushing this baby into production, not to mention Avengers and Thor.

I really really liked both the Movie and the character Iron Man and while Demon in the Bottle is a classic story I don’t think it’s what the public (not comic fans) would want. I think people liked Iron Man because it was such a fun movie that wasn’t too serious and I sorta feel doing a really serious storyline like that without taking away the tone you’ve created will result in something like Spider-Man 3. And to agree with the previous guy, Extremis would be an awesome idea for a sequel.

I have high hopes for Hancock only because of Jason Bateman.

Iron Man should stay an uplifting comedy movie for now, it was a good original superhero movie, and maybe one of the best movies so far this year, that and Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

Vic: Yeah, I’ve been on two roundtables with Fav and he always seemed to be interested in tackling that storyline. He certainly never sounded this down about the idea. I think he realizes that with Iron Man being the huge overnight success that it was, that it might be impossible to do Demon, even though its clearly the best Iron Man story.

When i interviewed Favs last year it seemed to me although he likes the story he’s known from the beginning it would be a tricky sell to Marvel.

i think extremis would be a real sweet demon in a bottle type of storyline. I just feel like the best bet for villain in the sequel would be mandarin. m.o.d.o.k. would be cool and interesting to see.
