JK Simmons

JK Simmons, probably best known for playing J. Jonah Jameson in the Spider-Man films, told IESB that the last time he talked to Tobey Maguire, the Spider-Man star was still open to the possibility of returning for a fourth film.

“I spoke to Tobey in, I guess it was February… sort of awards season time,” said Simmons. “and, y’know, he’s certainly amenable to doing some more and hopefully we’ll be able to get everybody back and make another good one.”

A lot of people say that they can’t imagine Spider-Man without Tobey or Kristen, but I say that’s easy. On the other hand, I’m not sure anyone could replace JK Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson. The studio has supposedly checked in with Simmons to say they want him back for a sequel, but Sony still has no idea when it’s going to happen or who would be directing it. Simmons admits that if Sam Raimi weren’t involved in some capacity, he would have to reconsider his options.

“But if he’s involved, hopefully directing or at least as a producer then I’m pretty confident that it would be something that I want to do.  Plus they pay money.”

Wait, did he say anything about more Emo Dancing? Come on, I just got to know what new musical montage will be in this one! Anyway, the only good thing about the Spidey movies are the Bruce Campbell cameos!

for me, spider-man without tobey is like back to the future without micheal j fox. it won't feel right. more than ANY upcoming film, i hope tobey, raimi & co, find a way to do 4/5 back-to-back, redeem themselves for part 3, and show all the other comic book films (except nolan & co) how it's done.

i'd truly be heartbroken with any replacements in that franchise.

lets see, they are scrambling to secure a director and the cast, they just made one of the worst and most dissapointing superhero movies of recent time... maybe they should call it quits on this series?
  • The only thing i think should change is keep Raimi on as a producer and get a whole new director.

yer suggestion mirrors what they are doing with the hobbit: pj produce, gdt direct. and i think it's a remarkable idea. with the old directors as very hands on producers, the look/mood/feel can maintain the established lineage we love so much. and the new directors will instill the freshness both stories desperately need, as well as demand strong deliveries from the talent - one thing i felt sm3 was lacking.

it would also be interesting to see if spidey opens up to this converging marvel universe, as so many other characters/films are. spidey outsells em all on his own, but it'd still be nice to see him join in on the fun.

*sigh*, SM1 was awesome, SM2 was better than 1, SM3....well, story sucked...Sandman was awesome IMO, but needed A LOT more screen time. Venom....well, Venom really failed in this one, not enough fight scenes, and not like the Venom like i knew in the 90's cartoon...

so overall...is the trilogy worthy enough for another 3 more? i think so...it's not like all of them sucked terribly...it still enjoyable to watch over and over again, unlike most movies...so keep that in mind.

SM4&5 filmed at the same time is a perfect idea, reason being...this could convince Tobey and Kirsten, that they could come back and not wait 2-3 years to film again (SM5) so thats a great way to start off.

I like the idea of having SM4 in 2010, and SM5 in 2011. If they have the originally cast, cuz SM isn't SM with Tobey and Kirsten.

Also Sam Raimi said he is interested in coming back to direct again if the Story is good, and if Sony agrees to have him direct again. So give this guy a chance, i know he can redeem himself...cuz how can you not after being criticized for SM3. I'm sure he'll prove people wrong once he comes back again.

So I hope all the originally cast returns and checks are signed and they return for another trilogy. Just make sure and comply with Tobey with his request on a BIGGER cut.
  • Jerry to the Biggy Butler
Frodo would be perfect as Parker.

Everythings lining up for a Raimi / Tobey 2 part wrap-up.
    This is great news!!!!!

The problem is Spider-Man is as good as the villians in his world. And Raimi only ever captured that in SM2. Alfred Molina and his Doc Ock design was great.

But every other villian thrown at spier-man was horrible. They looked and acted like kid toys come to life.

    Green Goblin - Metallic Power-Ranger
Sandman - Horrible origin story; Loved you in The Mummy
    Harry - Killer Xbox
Venom - That skinny dude from that TV show in a muscle suit

I also want them to bring the "actual" spidey character from the books to the film. You know the smart-ass while in costume? Getting punched and throwing punches while talking shit, is the Spidey I want. And Raimi never captured that either. What it boils down to for me is that the only good parts were some of the swinging scenes and Alfred Molina. I'd like this to go to another director who can bring more of the "character" to the film and incorporate the villians in a respectable way, instead of making them into themepark jokes.

Raimi is overrated and is lucky as hell he landed this project.
  • surely he's best known for being Schillinger and his welcoming approach to Beecher in Oz!

The only one from the cast I can't support being re-cast is JK Simmons. He's a shining ray of sunshine where no darkness shall touch!

I think that Tobey should come back to do SM 4&5 cause spiderman just wouldn't be the same with out Tobey. I don't really mind for Kirstin tho, if she is replaced or came back with Tobey, it wouldn't matter to me. Hopefully, Spiderman 4&5 will be soooooooooo much better than Spiderman 3, cause i mean that wasn't the best movie they made. In my opinion, Spiderman 2 was the best!

If I were Tobey I would feel akward not to come back because people all around the world know him and he already did a whole trilogy as the costumed hero. And I think you are crazy Mel! The third one was the best because It had more action than the first two. And it had great villains as well. I liked sandman the best!
