Lionsgate has launched a new website on disbeliefnet.com, to help promote the upcoming release of Larry Charles‘ documentary Religulous, Bill Maher’s comedic examination of the world’s religions. And unlike most studio launched websites, this site actually filled to the brim with a lot of hilarious content (I’m actually pretty sure it would take you hours to see it all”.
For example the E-Card section is filled with cards that read “Too poor for Scientology, too pretty for Satanism” or “Sorry you were molested by one of our clergy” or “Sorry my savior blew up your savior”.

The funniest part is the links and advertisements to, what appear to be, actual real websites. For instance one of the banner advertisements reads “Save California From Satanic Homosexual Marriage”. Or another banner advertises “Hermetically Sealed Sacrament” with the tag line “Just because its called communion, doesn’t mean you want their germs.”
The “Donate Now” button takes you to a randomly chosen religion’s donation page. The Verse of the moment comes from Exodus 21:20-21, and reads: “When a slave-owner strikes a male or female slave with a rod and the slave dies immediately, the owner shall be punished. But if the slave survives for a day or two, there is no punishment; for the slave is the owner’s property.”

I’m an atheist and while I do think religion is ridiculous and has done a lot of bad but I can’t stand losers like Bill Maher acting tough and outspoken because it’s his American right to have free speech and use it but if the had any balls at all the would’ve put Muhammad on there with a rocket launcher instead of a Jesus.
They know by going after the Christians they will most likely get complaints and threatening mail whereas if they did the same thing with Islamic/Muslim slant it would put them in the crosshairs of there extremest.
My point is that they are a bitches and only go after the safe and easy targets and thats too bad because seeing a film that won’t pander to anyone would be great and show how ridiculous religions is.

OMFG! I am so glad someone finally has the balls to make a mockery of religious beliefs! It’s daring because that subject is more a hard target than the Van Damme film of the same name!
Kudos to you, Billy!
If only there were more people in Hollywood brave enough to make fun of other sacred cows such as fat people, flatulence, nerds, stoners, homosexuals, midgets, rednecks and foreigners!
Shine on you crazy diamond-tweaker!!

OMG!!! Awesome!!! Hahaha!!! Its briliant!!!

Religion gets made fun of all the time. This is nothing new. There is nothing brave or daring about this. OMG Bill Maher is talking bad about all the religions of the world. This is so funny. I cannot believe this is happening. This is more brilliant than Borat. Borat is so funny. Gimme a break. This just proves hollywood is full of clowns and all of you love their pie!

I am glad stuff like Scientology is finally getting a national eye pointed on it. The more talking points created will only stimulate national discussion on the issue of how religion figures into the way America/Americans makes its/their day to day decisions. Keep it open and honest and ongoing…

Are some of you guys being sarcastic? Was everyone asleep when people like Lenny Bruce, George Carlin, and Bill Hicks were at their highest peek? You guys must have seen these guys in some form. Because they’re 100 times funnier and wittier than Maher.
You guys make it sound like Maher is the first person in history to do this. Is it because it’s in some documentary format or something?

Looks great and will be checking out later and definitely seeing the movie.

I think you should get over it man. It’s gone. No need to take it out on other people. Get a summer job mowing lawns or something - I’m sure you’ll be able to make back enough money to buy a new one.

It’d be nice if there was some thought put into this, making it a real platform for discussion. But this is really just thoughtless slander that makes Maher come off as more stupid than even worth paying much attention to. At least someone like Dawkins can be debated, even for those like me who disagree with him.
Best to just let this one die folks, until the next one to jump on the anti-religion money train…

Good stuff Tyler J. Please, keep that sharp advice of yours coming!
Also, Thank you Captain Awesome.

@Seton:
“If only there were more people in Hollywood brave enough to make fun of other sacred cows such as fat people, flatulence, nerds, stoners, homosexuals, midgets, rednecks and foreigners!”
Wow, I really hope that you weren’t serious… You put flatulence in the same category as well, absolutely nothing that should be made fun of! I honestly believe nothing there should be made fun of. Are you kidding me??? Nerds? You are a nerd for going on this website, and commenting!! Midgets??? Cmon… Now, if you are being funny, I completely missed it, and rock on. :)
On another note, that tshirthell.com site is amazing!!

I love how they take things out of context. I doubt anyone who gloats over that quote from the Bible about slaves has the courage or moral integrity to actually look up the topic of slaves in the Bible and figure out what the Bible’s ultimate position on slavery is.

I love that a Christian outreach program is one of their sponsors. Now that’s funny!

I think it’s wonderful that all religions are being mocked equally. No holds barred for any “special” groups.

When Religion helps people who are sick, starving, or in trouble, it’s a good thing. When people and countries use it as a tool to assert a war, or their point of view on someone else, it’s bad. It’s all based on the individual’s perception of religion. Unfortunately, there are too many leaders taking their cues from what they believe to be some kind of divine insight, when it’s nothing more than being drunk with power, and using God to validate their machinations.
Sorry to get political/philosophical, but the post calls for it.
