Marley and Me Teaser Trailer

Mareley and Me

20th Century Fox has released the teaser trailer for the big screen adaptation of Marley & Me. I’ve never read John Grogan’s New York Times bestselling book, but I’ve heard from friends that it is both hilarious and heartwarming. And it seems to me that anyone who has ever had a pet would be able to relate with this story. But many of those same friends were shocked at the typical romantic comedy-esque casting of Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston. And the short teaser below doesn’t quarm my uninformed preconceptions with the duo. Tell me what you think in the comments!

The official book cover description follows: The heartwarming and unforgettable story of a family in the making and the wondrously neurotic dog who taught them what really matters in life. John and Jenny were just beginning their life together. They were young and in love, with a perfect little house and not a care in the world. Then they brought home Marley, a wiggly yellow furball of a puppy. Life would never be the same.

Marley quickly grew into a barreling, 97-pound streamroller of a Labrador Retriever, a dog like no other. He crashed through screen doors, gouged into drywall, flung drool on guests, stole women’s undergarments, and ate nearly everything he could get his mouth around, including couches and fine jewelry. Obedience school did no good -Marley was expelled. Neither did the tranquilizers the veterinarian prescribed for him with the admonishment, “Don’t hesitate to use these.”

And yet, his heart was pure. Just as Marley joyfully refused any limits on his behavior, his love and loyalty were boundless, too. He shared the couple’s joy at first pregnancy, and their heartbreak over miscarriage. He was there when babies finally arrived and when the screams of a 17-year-old stabbing victim pierced the night. Marley shut down a public beach and managed to land a role in a feature-length movie, always winning hearts as he made a mess of things. Through it all, he remained steadfast, a model of devotion, even when his family was at wit’s end. Unconditional love, they would learn, comes in many forms.

Is it possible for humans to discover the key to happiness through a bigger-than-life, bad-boy dog? Just ask the Grogans.

I think, "That was it?" Talk about a tease...if I hadn't of read your plot summary I would have just seen Owen and Jennifer running and thought, "Are they together now or what? And look they got themselves a love puppy!"

Robots and dogs showing humans how to be humans...I'm feeling less human with each movie.

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
  • Ben
Wow. I've never read the book, but that teaser was pathetic. Terrible.
  • SUe
are you serious? That was it? There wasn't even a gag at the end of all of that. God, what the hell is Owen Wilson thinking? I used to anticipate his stuff. Now Luke's more reliable.
  • jess
I loved the trailer. Makes me realize that it will be true to the book!Marley's mischief!!!
  • Captain Awesome
"Up the street. Not across the road."

It's just the first teaser, People. The movie wrapped in Philly just last week. Incidentally, John Grogan who wrote the best selling book has had nothing but praise for Owen's and Jen's selection to star and for their performances. Who did you envision playing the part - Roseanne Barr and John Goodman?

This movie will be terrific - just like the book.
  • David Kahane
"Chariots of Fire"?? Really?! Talk about a tired, played-out creative choice. That's right up there with the "Meet Dave" trailer using "Stayin' Alive".

The only thing that gives me any hope for this at all is that it was adapted by the great screenwriter Scott Frank.
  • uh
I'm sure the author is just shaking his head, only using the checks he received off of this deal to comfort his pain.
  • Um. Yeah. Right.
A-W-F-U-L. All who are connected to this teaser should be embarrassed. And such a shame since I've heard good things about the book.

"dog who taught them what really matters in life"

oh man, that's too sad to comment on.
  • Anyone else cringe at Aniston's blatantly overdubbed line?
  • Truth
Peter's foolish if he thinks that teaser indicates a romantic comedy! It's an adorable puppy running a great race in his own mind, thus the Chariots of Fire theme. I think it's exactly the right kind of teaser for a film that is going to have some serious dramatic moments - anyone who read the book knows what I mean.
  • Truth: I never said the trailer indicates a romantic comedy, I said that fans "were shocked at the typical romantic comedy-esque casting of Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston."
  • Paige
I read Marley & Me; such an amazing book!

this trailer is kind of weird though...the puppy is adorable :]
  • Joe
    Question:
Anybody notice that the plot synopsis is almost exactly the same as Wilson's "You, Me and Dupree" (down to the 'yellow furball')?

    Answer:
No. Nobody saw that movie except for me.
  • Skippy
I'd see it if it was just the puppy. I could live without Aniston and Wilson.
  • Eric
I read the book last year. REALLY good and funny.
  • Lee
WHY ? This is just one of those "bloody good books" that should have been left alone. The whole point is no matter how you read M&M it's a very personal journey especially for other dog owners that isn't going to work on screen.

Is Hollywood now this desperate ? I await M&M to get the Fast Food Nation treatment.
  • The trailer sucked, but any trailer that is nothing but Jennifer Aniston running at full speed on the beach, I will check it out. Reminds me of the good old Baywatch days!
  • ANGRY BROOMSTICK!!!
sounds like a big flop to me.
  • Jackie
Hope the final trailer does a better job of conveying the concept of the book
  • Eric
"And the short teaser below doesn’t quarm my uninformed preconceptions"

    quarm?
  • Michael
I'd like to sit through two hours of the puppy and no JA/OW.
  • michelle
That's My Sisters puppy . That is just to cool . I miss you puppy!
  • john martine
The snipet of the trailer doesn't hold a flame to absolute total involvement I attained as I read, literally, the first entire book of my adult life and I'm 60 this year. No other story captured me as Marley & Me. This is the first story that caught my heart and I had to live the story right up to the last word.--John

People, try READING for once. Read the book then make a comment! The trailer is BRILLANT. Had one read the book they would of got it. But DUH!!!! to the people who dont read!!! Cannot wait for this to open!!!
  • Rice
Read the book twice. The puppy is just how I would have imagined Marely- free spirited, adorable and determined to beat to his own drum. Cant wait for the movie but dont know if I will be able to stay for the ending.
  • i loved it. its really cute and fun, and i dont understand how people can have such strong objections to what is 30 seconds of a puppy and 2 actors who you really shouldnt judge in these roles until you watch the movie running across the screen.
  • Sarah
I agree, the book was brilliant but that was a terrible teaser.
  • The book was so touching and heartwarming. It's sad to know that people judge the story just by the trailer. The trailer was so cute!
  • kayla
