Trivia: Dan Aykroyd and the Temple of Doom

Trivia: Dan Aykroyd and the Temple of Doom

When I was re-watching the Indiana Jones trilogy in preparation of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, I discovered something I never noticed before - Dan Aykroyd.

Trivia: Dan Aykroyd and the Temple of Doom

That’s right, the SNL star turned Ghostbuster has a very small cameo in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. Unlike Raiders and Last Crusade, I had only seen the film once or twice since I was a kid, which might explain how I passed him by. The 18-second cameo is easy to miss and comes just after the conclusion of the car chase with Lao Che’s men in the film’s opening sequence. Aykroyd plays a character named “Weber”, who sports a mustache and an even worse fake British accent. He explains to Indy that he’s arranged for last minute transportation just before Jones, Short Round and Willie board the plane. Turns out that Aykroyd was friends with Spielberg, going back to working on 1941.

Even harder to spot is the blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameos of George Lucas, Frank Marshall, Kathleen Kennedy, and Steven Spielberg as a group of missionaries in the background of the same airport scene.

  • I thought most people were hip to the Aykroyd cameo. I guess I had much more free time than you guys.

The Lucas/'Berg appearance is a much more ridiculous one.

That's hilarious because I re-watched Temple of Doom last night, and I also had the same "Hey! It's Dan Aykroyd!" response during that scene.

That was supposed to be a British accent? I had no idea.
  • Tom
I had seen it. It only confirms Temple of Dooms vast superiority over the other indy films

    SLOW NEWS DAY HUH PETEY
  • Jack: it's called the weekend :P
  • When I was younger, before I cared who Dan Aykroyd was, I thought Weber was played by the voice of C3PO.

YO /FILM! Why aren't you talking about THE GOOD, THE BAD, and THE WEIRD?? What do you know about this film? What happened with it at CANNES ... anyone of you seen this bad boy? ... I've only experienced the trailer ... as far as my tastes go ... it has potential.

Sorry for posting this message twice ... I do not know how to contact you /FILM elite ... but I trust you have some info as you are seemingly fully informed on most treats out there.

I recently watched ROTLA, and realized that Alfred Molina (aka Doc Oc) was the bad guy in the first scene. It was his first movie (well, second, but the first was not credited according to IMDB).
  • Jackson
    wow, slow news day indeed.

I'm pretty sure I read something years ago that Dan Aykroyd's cameo was to say thanks for Spielberg's cameo (as according to IMDB: "Cook County Assessor's Office Clerk") in The Blues Brothers a few years before.
