Harry Potter Prequel?

Harry PotterJK Rowling has penned a prequel to the seven book Harry Potter series. The 800-word outline was donated for an auction to raise money for English PEN and Dyslexia Action charities. Before you get too excited, Rowling says that the prequel doesnt actually exist, ending the outline with:

“From the prequel I am not working on - but that was fun!”

And while I’m sure fans would love a prequel, it doesn’t seem like a very good idea to me. The story which takes place before Harry went to Hogwarts, and before he began to discover his powers, isn’t probably a tale worth telling. Plus, the friends and enemies which Harry later meets at Hogwarts would likely not be part of said story.

Other authors who have donated outline works are Lisa Appignanesi, Margaret Atwood, Lauren Child, Richard Ford, Neil Gaiman, Nick Hornby, Michael Rosen, Axel Scheffler, Tom Stoppard and Irvine Welsh. Copies of the cards will be published as a book which will be available in August.

I think it would be great if she wrote a book based on their children and their adventures at Hogwarts. If she could find away for the characters to face challenges

Wow, ... Im trying to imagine how stupid this person must be to think that a prequel would be about Harry's time spent with the dursleys.

there could be an entire series following the lives of his parents and the people at the school during their years at Hogwarts all the way up to the creation of the origional Order of the Pheonix and Voldy's first rise to power (or atempted rise anyway).

Rowling said that IF she were to write another book, it would definately not be about Harry. I'd be willing to bet, well not my good hand , but at least a few fingers that If she were to write another book based in the 'Harry Potter world' that would be it.

Wait wait wait....Someone actually WANTS to see more movies use CGI to make actors younger like in X3?

The way Hollywood is going I wouldn't be surprised if it eventually does happen. They are already milking it with the two-part seventh book movie which fans will line up to see but what happens after that? They'll have to consider the fact that with no more books to wait for and a few last dvds to buy if said prequel did exist fans would definitely pay to see it. Hell, I would pay to see it versus another sequel or Hollywood remake.

I'd love to know what Irvine Welsh wrote.
  • Ya, I have to agree. Peter, you completely missed the point. I'm sure it will never happen, but a movie about the original OotP would kick ass.. especially if they were able to use the same actors. I'm sure it would be difficult, but I think it could be done. They could digitally make them younger, like Prof X and Magneto in X3.

You completely missed the possibility of a feasible prequel.

If there were to be a Potter sequel it would be about the original order of the pheonix and how they fought Volde, seeing the longbottoms get tortured, movie would most likely end with the death of harry's parents.

If it were to focus on that (and it most likely would) then the movie would kick ass and be targeted towards the parents of the kids who grew up with Harry Potter series.
