MGM Wants More Rocky Sequels?

Rocky Balboa

During a presentation at the Cannes Film Festival, MGM chairperson Mary Parent mentioned that the company is toying around with the possibility of making more Rocky films. Parent’s big buzzword of the presentation was “franchise”. And she believes Rocky Balboa might have some more fight in him before he calls it quits for good.

Why? Why! WHY!?! Doesn’t MGM understand that Rocky Balboa was the perfect conclusion to the series? Usually I’m more than willing to give a heartfelt sequel a chance, but the idea is just ridiculous. Hopefully Sylvester Stallone won’t be baited by a cash grab. On the other hand I wouldn’t be against a Rocky spin-off starring Rocky’s son Robert Jr. (played in Rocky Balboa by Heroes star Milo Ventimiglia). But even then I’m not sure what they would hope to accomplish.

Enough is a Enough. When will Hollywood realizes that it sucks and just needs to stop?
  • Captain Awesome
Just fucking stop already. I know it's asking a lot. But how about somethines "new" Hollywood???
  • You know, the more I think about the idea of Milo Ventimiglia in a spin-off, the more it actually appeals. A lot!

Tho' just reading your comments now, have made me think MGM could be toying with the idea of a tv series.

So...is Rocky going to fight a cyborg in this next movie? Or is he going to be the cyborg????
  • Rocky Balboa was indeed the perfect conclusion to the series. That's it! End game! Move on to something...*gasp*...original!! The last thing we need is Rocky: Tussel in the Day Room at Shady Oaks.
  • In the other discussion thats what i predict for Rocky 7-10. He can't get into the ring without aid of a walker, but, somehow he manages to get his butt kicked, until the last 30 seconds, when he hallucinates and sees Adrianne (from all the meds he's getting) and despite being 90 years old, manages to kick some 18 year old punk's butt.
You know, kinda klike how Yoda hobbles in and then suddenly manages to do somersaults and stuff in Attack of the Clones; then takes his stick, and hobbles off again.
  • Um, everyone's ignoring the fact that this means we'll finally get Rocky VII: Adrian's Revenge.

IT WILLL BE WITH ROCKY TRAINING THAT YOUNGER GIRLS SON YOU IDIOTS. THAT IS WHY THEY INTRODUCED HIM.
  • Albert Brodsky
    Brody's right.

Anyway, I was a huge Rocky fan just like every other kid in the 80's. I didn't rush out to see the new one because I figured it had nothing to offer. I read the reviews, and they were full of praise, but I just couldn't see it working. I bought it at Blockbuster for 2.99. It was "Meh".

It was very lackluster and dry. I never got pumped up like when he fought Mr. T or Draggo.

Balboa was the perfect ending....leave it alone....That was better than Rambo 4....at least Rocky got a decent send off.
  • Rudin
Hahaha, Pauly D. You're right, Adrian is a zombie and Rocky must fight her while trying not to contract the deadly ebola virus.

    Simpsons ftw

    Yoooooo.

    Don't be trashin Rocky Balboa.

That was a fantastic movie and great end to the series.

Could Milo beef up enough to box?

    "Steps" looks big enough.

    From his IMDB Bio:
"Epitomizing the term "well-rounded," as a high school junior James is already being recruited to play football at many of the nation's top schools-but his passion is for acting. Although he is a captain on his varsity football team, James has also practiced Muai Thai, a traditional form of Thai self-defense, for many years as well as playing other sports such as soccer and racquetball."

    So he's certainly athletic enough.

Rocky should fight Rambo. They have the technology. It can be done.
If done tastefully I think Hollywood could start a whole new genre of film remaking..
  • will
may god have mercy on us all......
  • Let's hope not. While I thought the last was somewhat creative. We're getting out of the bounds of reality.

  • I've always toyed with the idea of a Rocky prequel. If you watch the first movie there's alot of backstory especially between Rocky and Mickey. There's room to explore that but would fans/audiences clamour for it? Especially since there's no way for Stallone to be involved unless it's told in flashback.

Someone also once suggested they should recut all 6 Rocky flicks into a sort of mock-biopic on the boxer. Sounds like a fun DVD release but again I doubt people will flock to it.

As far as a proper ROCKY 7 I think it is highly unnecessary even with this "Son of Rocky" idea they've been throwing around. Leave it alone MGM.

I really enjoyed Rocky Balboa. It was the perfect way to end the series. Sometimes, things are just over. Let it be.
  • Robert
Still a few more bucks to squeeze out of the franchise. That's how it works in Hollywood. Squeeze the life (cash) out of everything. That's all this is.

Rocky Balboa vs John Rambo in Space

Oh man, really? We're dealing with actors who are way past the age where they should be playing such parts. They couldn't even really have Rocky win in the last movie b/c that just would have been ridiculous!

Same scenario, different actors. Could you have more Rocky without Sylvester in the lead? Could you have more Indiana without Harrison as the lead? Back to the Future without Michael? Leave these franchises alone Hollywood and come up with something new for a change! What's next? Another Conan the Barbarian?!
  • No, we've graduated since. It's Conan the Govenor these days.
  • Brody
    Thankyou Mr. Brodsky

Maybe we can have Rocky stuck in an old folks home and hes sad because his son doesn't visit him so he has to enter the geriatrics king of the ring tournament to get his sons respect back lol Hollywood gold!
  • YES MORE ROCKY. WHO DOESN;T LIKE BOXING FILMS! THINK OF ALL THE OPPONENTS HE COULD FIGHT, THIS IS THE BEST NEWS ALL YEAR.
  • karl
i am a huge rocky fan and the last rocky i thought was ok but i just cant see it ending like this i always said there should be a rocky juinor but to do that u have to have rocky fight just one more time and he has to lose he has to get hurt maybe even die in the ring we all dnt wanna see rocky die in the ring but i think that would make his son have to fight even if rocky doesnt die atleast get hurt and were he is in the hospital and see on the news that his son is training to fight the guy who hurt rocky i think it would be a great idea and i think it would be a hit so i agree rocky seven let it happen

There is a possibility of a sequel. But in rocky training a member of the cast of Rocky Balboa but not his son!! We must remember there was a young lad in the film who eventually looked up to Rocky. It was Little Marie's son Steps. So if there was to be a sequel it could be called Rocky's Steps. If he was to train him he should be an in the ring trainer. This is a realistic approach this boy grew up in a similar way to Rocky. He also has the build for it.

i think if another rocky movie takes place it should be something no one would expect, like maybe rocky training the son of apollo creed in mickeys old gym instead of his own son cause i dont see rockys son as a fighter. it should still have some regular characters too like paulie, tony, spider rico to support training while finding parts for robert, marie and her son since they played good roles in the last movie. Maybe creeds son could be the one to beat mason dixson.
