I bet when everyone first heard Fred Durst scream the chorus of his rendition of George Michael’s late ’80s hit “Faith”, they had no idea he would someday make a feature-length film, never-mind two. Yes, TWO - he also helmed a indie drama titled The Education of Charlie Banks, which won an award at the 2007 Tribeca Film Festival. The Limp Biscuit frontman’s second film, The Longshots, tells the true story of Jasmine Plummer who, at the age of eleven, became the first female to play in Pop Warner football tournament in its 56-year history. Written by the writers of Akeelah and the Bee and Prison Break, The Longshots stars Ice Cube and will hit theaters on July 25th 2008 from Dimension Films. It seems like the typical sports drama, but, who knew Fred Durst could direct a movie? Check out the trailer below and tell me what you think.

Doesn’t look that bad. It looks standard American football fare but possibly with strong performances. His previous film didn’t look to bad from the trailer for that either, so perhaps his forte is directing.

Wow. More generic, formulaic, template driven crap.
Honestly I feel like there’s a machine somewhere just spitting these movies out.
Hollywood needs a renaissance
Or maybe a violent overthrow.

Anything that keeps him away from the mic

I guess the insertion of baked goods into his rectum really did pay off.

Anyone notice how Fred Durst wasn’t mentioned at all? (maybe in the billing block). I remember when they were promoting “Education”, they pimped the HELL out of Durst’s name… I guess they learned their lesson, LOL

@ piotr s
it was an old MTV News interview with durst, where he said he had been hanging out with fincher and taking notes. i remember one specific quote where the interviewer asked durst if he had any tips for new filmmakers, & durst replied, “yeah, don’t move the camera around too much.” now, that isn’t any real advice for any filmmaker to take (as things are more complicated than that), but i gotta be honest, for a basic feelgood family sports film, it looks like durst did a decent job.
i don’t know if ya’ll remember this, but durst was attached to direct ‘lords of dogtown’ at one point.
also, i’ve always thought ice cube was a great actor who never uses his talents enough. if russel could capture him in three kings, i know there are other great roles he could do. but for some reason he keeps picking shit - this movie excluded.

@ Kevin
Wow, your opinion is really relevant. Please tell me how your refusing to see the trailer helps anyone? Gain some perspective or spare us the wasted space.
As for the trailer, it reminds me of the movie “Gracie” first girl on a school soccer team…first girl in an all boy football league…yeah. That being said I think the trailer was well cut compared to other similar movie trailers I’ve seen. But just like Gracie I’ll probably wait to see it when it comes out on DVD. All hail the Red Box.

I refuse to have anything to do with Fred Durst, except comment that I refuse to have anything to do with Fred Durst.

The film looks like it’ll fit nicely in that family/feel good
category, which isn’t a bad thing, the kids have to watch
something safe sometimes. It might not be original, but
I could see picking it up on DVD for a Sunday afternoon
viewing.

Since Chimaera called out Kevin on his protest of the movie, I guess I’ll try to be a bit more descripitve of why I will not view this movie or anything associated with Durst.
First and foremost, I have met Fred Durst, on more than one occassion, casual and business. He’s an idiot, and a self proclaimed idiot. He’s self loathing to say the least. Yet, also full of himself. I think they call that Bi-polar. His music was always dreadful, which matched his personality. After his music fell apart, he looked at the next venture and became obsessed with flims like Finchers.
Great, he took notes from Fincher. He probably saw a lot of movies, and maybe read a book or two. He had some connections via an agent and was able to tie himself to a project. But, a mimic of Fincher he is not. A great director he is not. We have enough hacks in Hollywood making movies. There are tons of great directors out there who will not be noticed, or have the money and connections to get a film out like Durst. It’s unfair to those who can create real art. Durst is unoriginal in all aspects of his life.
So, I choose not to see this or endorse any of his ventures as long as he is alive (or dead). This is not to say that someone like Chimaera shouldn’t see it, or buy the DVD. But, it would be great if he didn’t.

This is ridiculous. I have seen the education of charlie banks, and it is actually a very good movie. As for judging Fred Durst’s directorial career based on his music career, well it is beyond belief. As for Fred and Limp Bizkit they were many many things but unoriginlal is not one of them. Let the guy make me movies and be judged on them, if they are crap fair dues, but at least watch the film.
You know its sad that people act as if Durst has behaved like Michael Jackson. Oh no wait a minute people still buy Jacksons stuff despite his past. Double standards to say the least.

Yes Fred Durst in my humble opinion is horrible but as this movie goes it doesn’t look bad for what it is. It’s a family movie that is suppose to make you feel good. I am sure that the team will make it to state and win so yes it’s predictable and it’s been done before but most 10 year olds probably have not seen many if any movies like this. I most likely will not see it unless my cousins come to town and want to watch it. So to all you a-holes out there just totally bashing it. Get a life.

It’s based on a true story. It has some funny parts, and some more serious parts. It is very well put together. Keke Palmer was a doll to be around, Ice Cube was so cool (no pun intended!) and Dash Mihok (I Am Legend) was hilarious. Oh, and quit hating on Fred…people grow, mature, change, etc. He is really an okay guy. He was very complimentary to the boys on the set, and not the pig you say he is. Don’t let one man’s “image” keep you from seeing this movie. It’s going to be a good one…the trailer doesn’t do it justice.

My son has written some the greatest music you love to hate! Break Stuff happens to be my favorite song ever, and the all of the music created by Fred came from hours and hours of hard work and a lot of sacrifice from Fred and the band.
No one could be as proud of Fred when I observed how much respect he earned by the crew and all of the staff when I visited the movie set of Longshots. He wouldn’t rest until he had done his best on every single aspect of directing this movie. I know you are saying, “But you are just his mother,” but what you may not know is that I have always been his hardest critic. I tell him the truth just as I am telling it to you.
Longshots is a tremendous movie. Icecube is an unbelievably talented actor in this movie, and was so humble to everyone. (He gave up his chair to me whenever I came onto the set, like a true gentleman, insisting that I be as comfortable as possible.) I will never forget his kindness and neither will the entire crew.
So, as with Fred’s music you love to hate, I hope you love to hate the wonderful director, Fred Durst, in the movie, Longshots.
Having Fred Durst as my son is the most wonderful thing that has ever happened to my life. I have always loved to love him.
I love you guys, too. Anita Durst
