I agree with everyone that isnt Dave3. In short, his other serial killer movie was about the detectives coping with evil and the visuals reflected that and Zodiac was about the killer affecting the 70s and the film really reflects that with many visual and textual examples such as shooting the film in that tint, using accurate music, having the people watching Dirty Harry. The visual style is based off the text (actually more on the subtext) so saying that his style being different is a disappointment (actually retracted and said you werent disappointed so it ended up being an empty wrong statement) is because they are different movies.
