Who Will Be The Next Spider-Man: Patrick Fugit, Michael Angarano?

Patrick FugitIn the past few weeks we’ve heard mumblings that Sony had renewed their option to make Spider-Man movies, and internet rumors of preliminary plans to shoot Spider-Man 4 and Spider-Man 5, back-to-back.

Now comes word via LatinoReview that Patrick Fugit is the top name in the running to replace Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker. Now of course, no contracts have been signed, and the films have not even been officially greenlit (at least from a public perspective), so in other words - nothing is final. You probably recognize Fugit from his breakout performance in Cameron Crowe’s Almost Famous, or some of his indie work which has included Saved, Spun, and Wristcutters.

And if Fugit doesn’t work out, Michael Angarano is also said to be on the list of candidates. Angarano was most recently seen in Forbidden Kingdom, Michael Angaranowas in the superhero film Sky High, and even tried out for the now defunct Justice League movie. And while I’m not against the idea of going younger for the role, I just don’t see Angarano as Peter Parker.

I’m kinda surprised Shia LaBeouf’s name isn’t being mentioned. Some of you might also be wondering: if you’re going to go older, why not just go with Jake Gyllenhaal? Unfortunately Jake will be tied up for the foreseeable future with the big screen adaptation of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time.

    Nice. I can definitely see Fugit. Wristcutters was great. Looks a bit like Tobey too. Don't like the other guy too much.
  • I think Fugit would only work if we're doing a Batman Begins type thing. He still looks too much like a baby and a nerd for me to buy him as Spider-Man. Maguire had just the right amount of nebbishness and charisma. That being said, should Maguire not return, I think Shia would be absolutely perfect, but he can pretty much do anything he wants at this point.

    i'm gonna hold out until i hear tobey say 'no' himself. i really want him & raimi to redeem themselves for sm3 because i know they're better than that.

    but if it does have to be someone else, i like fugit more than the angarano kid. (even though sky high rules!)

    i'd be ok with shia, but i'd rather see him do y: the last man - he'd be a perfect yorrick, and that trilogy is gonna be insane if its done with care, and a real life ampersand - no more cg monkeys for shia!!!

    My vote is for Ron Perlman in a "young suit" or the drummer from Slayer, Dave Lombardo. But I wouldn't be opposed to the bassist from Voivod.
  • Did no one else realize that Angarano played young Cameron Crowe in ALMOST FAMOUS(in which Fugit played teenage Cameron Crowe?) Small town this Hollywood.

    The character is supposed to look like a young nerd! Are you not familiar with the character? He looks older than Maguire for chrissake. Plus this might not even be a direct continuation from the last films. They might be pulling an Incredible Hulk here.

    Fugit looks like he resembles Peter Parker allright.
    Probably Milo from Heroes TV series (played peter petrelly) is also looks like parker IMO.

    And....I really really want Kirsten Dusnt to be replaced.
    She is WAY TOO UGLY to be MJ. MJ is a freakin model, she's supposed to be hot and sexy, Dunst is not sexy or hot or beautiful at all.

    The word is that they're going for a Gay angle in the next Film. According to AICN the studio wants an up and coming young, Homosexual actor to play the role. As a gay man, I'm totally psyched about this new direction. I've always seen Spiderman as a spokesman for gay issues.

    Did anyone catch Ron Pearlman in the live action tv show, "The Tick". He was in one of the episodes and played a gay themed superhero. (LMAO).

    I'm still thinking that since there doing 4&5 back to back Tobey and Raimi are involved.
    These two guys look like bottom barrel casting options.

    Is there any truth to the rumors that the next film will be a crossover with DC? Latino review is reporting sightings of Black Panther and The Scarlet Witch in the script for Spiderman 4.

    Why are we talking about new actors for the role of Peter Parker? Sure it's a possibility, but I find it all the more likely that we're going to see the actors return. Sure, Spiderman 3 was a let-down, but it wasn't TERRIBLE, and it doesn't destroy the whole franchise for me, 1 & 2 were still excellent, and Tobey did a great job in all three, if they were smart, they'd keep him, he just plays the role perfectly...If it aint broke...

    Believe it or not, But I've heard rumors of Derek Jeter of the New York Yankees being consider for the role of Electro in the upcoming film. considering his latest movie, I'm not sure he would fit that role.

    I think i'd prefer Joseph Gordon-Levitt. i read something a while ago about him possibly wanting to take over the role of spiderman or that he was being considered. all rumors but i would like to see it happen if Tobey doesn't return.

    It's unlikely that kirsten Dumpst will be replaced. I've heard they are simply going to kill off MJ. Think about it. It would be the perfect angle for the next film. Peter would be furious that his wife was killed by the Rose and he could go totally apewise on all the criminals of New York.

    Hear me out. If spidey was gay, he would have access to some of the most seedy joints in town. He could snap some great photos and support the lifestyle that most of us commenter's choose in one fell swoop.

    Fugit would be the next best thing.

    I really hope Milo Ventimiglia doesn't come close. We don't need the acting to be any stiffer and/or worse... and based on his "performance" as Peter Petrelli... I'm sure that's what we would get. We'd get a guy who broods rather than acts.

    The Huffington Post is reporting that Spiderman 4 will be directed by Oliver Stones son, Gulliver. It's his Directorial debut and since his father was such a great director( Wall street and Problem Child 2) I'm going to assume he is as well.

    Let's just nix the series all together. I'm not going to pay to see it unless they really do something to improve the series. I'm tired of all the crappy CGI, lame supporting characters and iffy stories. 2 was good, 1 and 3, not so much. It doesn't matter tho, just throw it together and the sheep will follow.

    Naw Jack, despite those that hated the 3rd film it made more that the first 2.

    I'm pretty sure its the cost involved with resigning the main cast and Raimi.
    Tobey's agent will prob ask for 30mil (minimum) if there going to shoot 2 back to back.

    Has no one heard the rumors that Joseph Gordon Levitt may be playing Peter Parker.....I think he is the best choice and i would love to see him as Spidey.....especially if they did the whole reincarnation to a darker piece.....WOW

    Patrick has the Parker look but can he change himself the same way Tobey did, with the workouts and fight training??...At least we know Michael can handle fight scenes...Let's replace Dunst as well!!! Rachael Taylor and Emmy Rossum both would make excellent Mary Janes....anyone else agree??

    Perfect! I mean, they're already working together in the Dragon Ball movie so naturally they should take it to the next level and cut out Chi Chi altogether. I'm sure when we finally see them in DB the sexual tension will almost be tangible and they will welcome this opportunity to play it out on-screen.

    If Justin Chatwin comes anywhere near Peter Parker I'll bomb Sony.
