Wanted

Universal has a new international trailer for Universal’s Wanted. I normally wouldn’t be posting a Russian language trailer on /Film, but this trailer shows off some of the incredible cinematography that all of a sudden got me excited about this film. It’s also uncensored. This same trailer would certainly be redband if it were released in the U.S. I’m not expecting Shakespeare, just some incredible action sequences. I don’t even care if the story is basically a comic booky version of The Matrix. I’m pretty sure the bullet through the head shot from the opening of this trailer is worth the price of the movie ticket alone. Check it out NOW and tell me what you think in the comments.

Watch the trailer in High Definition on Filmz.ru.

Official Plot Synopsis: Based upon Mark Millar’s explosive graphic novel series and helmed by stunning visualist director Timur Bekmambetov-creator of the most successful Russian film franchise in history, the Night Watch series-Wanted tells the tale of one apathetic nobody’s transformation into an unparalleled enforcer of justice.  In 2008, the world will be introduced to a hero for a new generation: Wesley Gibson.  25-year-old Wes (James McAvoy) was the most disaffected, cube-dwelling drone the planet had ever known.  His boss chewed him out hourly, his girlfriend ignored him routinely and his life plodded on interminably.  Everyone was certain this disengaged slacker would amount to nothing.  There was little else for Wes to do but wile away the days and die in his slow, clock-punching rut. Until he met a woman named Fox (Angelina Jolie).

After his estranged father is murdered, the deadly sexy Fox recruits Wes into the Fraternity, a secret society that trains Wes to avenge his dad’s death by unlocking his dormant powers.  As she teaches him how to develop lightning-quick reflexes and phenomenal agility, Wes discovers this team lives by an ancient, unbreakable code: carry out the death orders given by fate itself. With wickedly brilliant tutors-including the Fraternity’s enigmatic leader, Sloan (Morgan Freeman)-Wes grows to enjoy all the strength he ever wanted.  But, slowly, he begins to realize there is more to his dangerous associates than meets the eye.  And as he wavers between newfound heroism and vengeance, Wes will come to learn what no one could ever teach him: he alone controls his destiny.

Wanted hits theaters on June 27th 2008.

what what what?!?! i've been very vocal in my disappontment with the changes they made from the comic, but the past couple weeks have definately forced the $10 from my wallet (even though i still think the supernatural part of the story could have made this a truly unique film). but if milar is on board, that says something. i think macavoy & jolie look sexy as hell killing people together.
  • Dan the Man
    well. damn.

i wasn't even planning on seeing this. but now i've been turned.
this looks completely bad ass. Yes yes the bullet was awesome. But the key board and keys and tooth flying through the air is what made me yell WOAH. So yes. I'm seeing this. Fuck.
  • Captain Awesome
    * burp *
  • JP
    Damn indeed.
I didnt like the first trailer, the young guy just didnt look comfortable in the action, and most of it looked a bit underwhelming. But that looks awesome! Ill hit that when it comes out
  • cellchild
    it's bad.
i'm russian and understand what she's talking about. it's a very shitty talk, very pretentious - very 1st channel style.
And it's completely different, you know.
Now they are good guys and killing the ones to save the millions. WTF? And this trick with russian translations in the movie (keyboard etc) - i don't get it. what's the point?
  • jonny
After watching that ... I'm not gonna watch any more trailers for this film... I'm just gonna see when it comes out
  • Sausage
I am so gonna see this now. I was initally expecting crap, but hell I loved the effects in the night watch series and I'm liking what I see here. I wanna join this fraternity and become badass!!! ')
  • You should take a look at the comic for real red band action. (Very explicit raping, killing...)
The movie will be cool though, but has nothing to do with the comic.
Society of Assassins? You don't find that in the book.
And shooting on dead cows isn't exactly the same as shooting on dead human bodies. In he comic, there are no good ones, but hollywood just can't make a film like that.

    Translation:
World is a delicate thing. And even one man can ruin it. We are not dead yet because the Destiny knows the names of those who threatens this world and send these names to those whose duty is to kill one to save the millions. Those who called themselves the Brotherhood of Weavers. Everything is different in your life. Empty, drearily and looks like there is nothing you can do.
    Girlfriend:
    - How can I sleep in such noise?!
Your girlfriend is cheating on you. No money. Emptyness, aimlessness and fear to know that you are the one who destined to say to this world:
    - I'm tired of you!!!
And then you'll come to us.
    Freeman:
    - Join us!
It's hard. Pain, fear, despair. But challenges gives you a power. And the moment will come when you'll be ready.
    Freeman:
    - The machine let us, I deliver, you execute.
After finishing your way you'll understand that to become yourself you need to entirely give yourself.
Think while the bullet flies. Cause it's the only time you have.

In the end: Are you hearing? The destiny called your name.
  • Captain Awesome
    cellchild,

I praise you and wish for a hot, naked, woman in your bed in your immediate future for the translation. This makes the film even funnier to me now.
  • Floppy
That looks more like the Timur Bekmambetov I've come to know and love from Night Watch and Day Watch. I'll definitely check it out.
  • The more scenes and trailers I see for this movie, the more I get extremely excited to watch it.

"...into an unparalleled enforcer of justice."
seriously??! Did they read the comic. The killer is definitely NOT an enforcer of justice. He is a SUPER VILLAIN!!! I at least hoped that mark Millar wouldn't let them fuck that up, but I guess I was sadly mistaken.
Alright, lets break it down. They took Mark Millar's exciting comic book about an underground organization of super villains who have been secretly running the world since they killed off all the super heroes in like the 70's (don't remember exact year.). They made the bad guys good guys, and I have yet to hear one mention of any of the other villains besides the killer, fox, and the original killer that we see for like 2 seconds in the trailers. Maybe its just me being a fan boy who thinks they should actually stay true to the comic, but seriously. I MEAN, WTF GUYS!!??
  • Captain Awesome
    Hefty Lefty,

This is pretty much where I compare what they did here with Constantine. The films would be fine on their own if they weren't named after the comic properties they have nothing to do with, much less looking nothing like. Milar's in the project and okay's it because it means he can work on a "movie".

This film is so far removed from the actual content found in the books. They could have easily named it anything else. Like, "Jolie's Ethiopian Arm."
  • Steelo
    HF and Captain Awesome

The Supervillan thing I agree they should have kept with. But hey Nas had a hip hop album everyone was waiting on called "N____r" (intentionally blocked) that he wasn't gonna change for anything until Wal-Mart said," We're not gonna sell it if that's the name of it.". Then Nas became a bastion of the people for the distribution of his music.

Same point here, mass appeal sells if the check is big enough.

If there was gonna be no bad guy made of s__t then I'm already lost. At least it looks good.
  • Uhm, was that Quentin Tarantino drinking behind James in the supermarket at 00:27?
  • Morpheus
This movie looks soo much like the matrix based on this trailer!

All the office day in the life stuff = first third of matrix
    Morgan freeman = morpheus
    angelina jolie = trinity

I bet the first third of this movie plays out more or less the same exactly as the matrix

I've read the comic and know that it isn't really like that, but this trailer sure seems to come off that way...
  • Ohiofile
I think that you guys are being ridiculous. This stuff looks cool and fun, and there's no way from looking at the trailer with A-1 trailer speak that you can tell how closely adapted this is to the comic book. Millar is on board. Timur said that he was pulling stuff straight from the book. You should calm down and just take it in as it is. It's not like Wanted is some huge comic book property or something that has to be taken for scripture. And you know what? If by saying this = The Matrix because it has cool slow-mo images, then I say bring it on. I miss that stuff. I can't wait to see what other crazy images come from a movie that delivers an image of flying keyboard pieces spelling out f-u-c-k y-o-(U-shaped tooth)
  • Adam
the original trailer i saw in theaters looked ridiculous. but the more i see, the more i dig it. so much so that i bought the trade paperback. and now i'm wondering why the preview seems to indicate that these main characters are "fighting for justice".
  • StarDestroyer
what is up with angelinas big head? and also her skroney arm
  • Tendrillar
This movie just looks so lame to me. I really don't get the appeal. What is the point of that bullet at the begining. It seems like sucha waste of rendering time and money to me. I think I'm just completely past the bullet time stuff. The Matrix was great but I don't want to see it again and again and again and again and again.....
  • estrus
Was that fat Eminem at 1:58??
  • Chimaera
Thanks Peter I definitely enjoyed it.

I'm still going on about the difference between domestic and international trailers...I prefer international. One of the things that I miss about living in Europe.

Speaking as one who has not read the comic I think it looks awesome. I understand where some of you are coming from, being fans and all that, but I'm willing to bet that for the majority of the viewing population this is the first they'll hear of it and most will see it and not even know it's based on a comic. They'll just go see it b/c of who is in it and what they've seen/heard and that's just the way it goes.
  • Hefty Lefty
    Captain Awesome,
I agree, whole heartedly. they easily could have called this movie something completely different, and no one would have known. When I first saw the trailer, i thought to myself "This has to be a mistake. There must be some other Wanted comic book that I have yet to read, cause this looks nothing like the brilliance I remember."
Too bad though, if they had followed the comic and gone with a cast that would do the movie good (James Macavoy I don't mind, but I think that Halle Berry for the fox and Christopher Lloyd for the professor would have been fucking A) this movie could have been epic beyond all reason.
  • Harasho!
Hearing it in Russian made it more bad ass.
Knowing Russian also helps :P. The movie title in Russian: Osobo Opasin traslates back to Especially Dangerous.
  • Ryan
This movie looks really really amazing, This looks 2 be one of the best movies this year. Cant wait!!!!!! F#$k June 27 is so far away
  • 790
Nothing screams out "Love me daddy" like a torso covered in tats. (IMO) What an ugly women.
  • Sami
That looks majorly cool. The keyboard thing is very funny too.

I think it's understandable that the film would differ slightly from the film. Timur and Mark have both said they are very proud of the movie and have tried to keep fairly close to the graphic novel. Mark said in the featurette that they even maintained the look of the novel.

We are seeing little snippets, and i have to agree that by far this International clip is much better than the first.

*The people who's main objection seems to be Angelina Jolie, express your dislike by all means but comparing her to a famine victim is in BAD taste and should be beyond any human being's capabilities.
  • Kinotto
I wanna see a 3D IMAX version of this flick. Nirvana.
  • eh
Most of the audience had no idea what was in the Constantine comic, and they like that movie a lot. So it doesn't matter. But McAvoy is especially lame and wimpy. Jolie, even if she does look like a famine victim still is cool enough to carry an action movie. So it washes out.
  • Even if the film replaces the comic book villains with this "League of Assassins", the jist of Millar's adaptation is pretty much there.
  • I never thought she was capable of cheating, I guess I was wrong.
