New Righteous Kill Movie Trailer

Righteous Kill

Overture Films has released the second movie trailer for Righteous Kill. Obviously the main selling point for this film is the fact that Al Pacino and Robert De Niro team-up for the first time in cinematic history (sure, they shared a scene together in Heat, but we don’t count that). I’m a big advocate of story. It’s almost impossible to make a great film with a lackluster story. But having these two guys in the lead would normally turn even a lackluster story into a must watch film. But one must remember that the same guy who made Righteous Kill, also made 88 Minutes, one of the worst films of the year (17% on metacritic), and which also starred Al Pacino. Check out the new trailer below and tell me what you think in the comments!

Official Plot Synopsis: Academy Award® winners Robert De Niro (Raging Bull) and Al Pacino (Scent of a Woman) star as a pair of veteran New York City police detectives on the trail of a vigilante serial killer in the adrenaline fueled psychological thriller Righteous Kill, directed by Jon Avnet (Red Corner, Fried Green Tomatoes) and written by Russell Gewirtz (Inside Man).  After 30 years as partners in the pressure cooker environment of the NYPD, highly decorated Detectives David Fisk and Thomas Cowan should be ready for retirement, but aren’t.  Before they can hang up their badges, they are called in to investigate the murder of a notorious pimp, which appears to have ties to a case they solved years before.

Like the original murder, the victim is a suspected criminal whose body is found accompanied by a four line poem justifying the killing. When additional crimes take place, it becomes clear the detectives are looking for a serial killer, one who targets criminals that have fallen through the cracks of the judicial system. His mission is to do what the cops can’t do on their own-take the culprits off the streets for good. The similarities between the recent killings and their earlier case raise a nagging question: Did they put the wrong man behind bars?  The cast also features hip-hop superstar Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson (Get Rich or Die Tryin’).

Righteous Kill hits theaters on September 12th 2008.

Well, the trailer certainly makes it seem like it's going to be a cool movie, so hopefully it is!

I heard it sucks and it's from the 88 minutes guy. That's a damn shame because I was looking forward to this.
  • Swayze
It's probably becuase its De Niro and Pacino but that trailer got me excited
  • GregoryV
    you got me at....

"...same guy who made Righteous Kill, also made 88 Minutes"

i didnt even bother with the trailer.

You don't count Heat? You take that back or I will hunt you down and stab you in the face with a soldering iron.
  • JP
never seen 88minutes. Ill watch this. The have Al Pacino, and they have rolling stones in the trailer.
  • Captain Awesome
I would never compare the masterpiece that is Heat to this new film coming up. Mainly because it doesn't pit these two legeneds against each other on film and they're past their prime now I think in terms of presence.

But I'm willing to give this a shot, since I watched that crappy Indy film tonight.

It looks better than 88 minutes. I'll see it if the reviews are decent.
  • Why wouldn't you count Heat? It's easily the best Michael Mann film and one of the best films ever. Also, get off the I hated 88 Minutes band wagon people. I saw it a while ago and it was a fine enough film. Didn't blow my mind or anything but it certainly wasn't worth all the trash talk.

I'm excited for this film. I love Pacino and DeNiro. Heat is one of my top 5 favorite movies of all time, so I have faith that they can do it again. Idk though, the trailer isn't bad, but I like the first one better. I definitely plan on seeing this one when it comes out.

The original title was "89 Minutes."
  • Bea
Snorefest! Who put this thing together . . . me, that's who! Who do I trust ... me, that's who! Ah Tony Montana, where are you!
  • Koko
Oh this is frustrating as hell!

This movie is begging to be directed by Scorcese ....

    It looks terrible...
  • Koko
    Apologies ....

    Scorsese*
  • The Dude
    it looks stupid.
  • Takashi Miike Myers
I'm going to be bashed to hell for this.
    HEAT is OVERRATED.
It was like "lets steal that John Woo movie" except lets lower the action.
Not a BAD film and VAL KILMER rocked but its no "The KILLER"
I still want to see this movie, looks like a better acted (now theres no Farina or Orbach) Law & Order and I like that idea.

It's so obvious that one of them is the killer. My money is on DeNiro.

The caption of the photo should read like this:

Deniro: "How did I get talked into doing this turkey of a film?"

Pacino: "At least I have a copy of my latest monologue, it will be better than all of 88 minutes."

Deniro: "Remember when we were offered good roles, by real directors?"

Pacino: "What do you mean, I thought I was good in 'Two for the money', I had a great monologue!"
  • Hi, Peter

My hopes are low but based on the trailer it looks pretty damn good.
  • I'm a psychic and I read for Bobby D on July 17th, 1996 and and according to his Vedic Birthchart where he had just entered a 20 year Venus period three weeks prior I told him that . . . "From now on where you make the most box office and have the greatest success is going to be in comedies, musicals, animation and children's movies and everything else is going to flop." And that is exactly what happened to his career so I don't have high hopes for this movie however . . . maybe the cycle of bad movies from 15 minutes to The Good Shepard has ended. I hope so!!

Alot of people don't know this but Bob is the producer of a long standing hit musical called "We Will Rock You" that has been playing for the last 10 years starting in England and now in Las Vegas!!

Ummmm ok. So it's pretty obvious from the trailer that De Niro and Pacino are the same person (Fight Club style).

One is part of this personality is a killer (probably Al Pacnio) doing what the other half can't because he's a cop.

If I'm wrong I'm wrong but it seems so simple.
  • Hefty Lefty
    Chris,
Thats so totally ubsurd... that it would probably work. My mind has been blown.
  • cinemaniac1979
    First: "vigilante serial killer".

Are you f*cking kidding me? That's the stupidest cliche I've ever heard. Serial Killers aren't vigilantes. If someone is a vigilante, he's obviously not a serial killer; the two can't mix.

Second: One of these two has got to be the killer. It's ridiculously, painfully obvious from the trailer.

Third: I just can't get excited about Pacino any more. For him, screaming=acting.

I'll pass. Post here after you've seen it and validate my decision to save $14 bucks please.
  • Captain Awesome
    Takashi Miike Myers,

I like John Woo. But Heat masturbates all over The Killer's corpse.

Michael Mann is who John Woo wants to be.
  • I gatta tell you guys.

I saw this movie at the prescreening in Febuary, and I thought it was okay.

Let me just say this trailer does a good job of selling the movie. Almost makes me want to see it again. (mainly to see what they changed, and if they kept the ending)

I also love how this trailer doesnt have 50cent in it. Hes in the movie for like 5 minutes....
  • Gary
It looks good, I cant wait to see it.
  • Ant
From the Writer of Inside Job...that's got to give it some cred over 88 Minutes director.
  • Hector
I just saw the second trailer and it looks awesome for all of you that give into the reviews or give into negativity without being your judge its your loss.
  • Evan
Movie aside- did anyone else notice the new mix of Sympathy for the Devil (Rolling Stones) towards the end of the trailer? It sounded pretty cool. Anyone know the story behind that? Are there more Rolling Stones remixes (are they even allowed to do that?)
  • Pearl Hall
I admire both of these actors, whenever they are in a movie it is a must see for me, they are two of the greatest actors of all time. i will withhold my opinon until I view this movie.
  • Robert De Niro is God.
  • angie
i love robert dinero and al pachino, but i really want to see this movie because donnie whalberg is in it. i think he is a great actor. he was awesome in the kill point.
  • DLen
    o.k. - let's get a few things straight.

The Replacement Killers (haven't seen The Killer yet) is a much better movie than Heat. Heat had its moments, but I can't count Heat as a movie worth saying that it starred both Pacino & DeNiro either. Only one real scene together was a huge letdown. If I ignore that, I can conclude that Heat was a fine movie. Not great, however.

88 minutes was laughable, yes. This movie looks like it has some promise. A fine ensemble cast if there ever was one. Let's see if they have a script with enough meat in it to satisfy them/us all.

Hey, it's got to be better than We're No Angels... *smirk*
