Capcom Japan just released the first photo of Smallville star Kristin Kreuk as Chun-Li in Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li (seen above). My immediate reaction is that she isn’t wearing the traditional blue outfit or the “ox horns” hairstyle as seen in the video game. And I’m not complaining, it’s probably for the better. What do you think? Below you will find a piece of fan created concept artwork of what everyone believed Kreuk would probably look like as Chu-Li.

she still might end up in the traditional garb, in fact it’s probably very likely…but my question is why is this movie being made? is there a massive demand for all things street fighter that i’m not aware of? (my dear what you aren’t aware of could fill a black hole..)
May 22nd, 2008 at 9:31 pm
I’m still getting over the fact they’re making another Street Fighter….and that they actually got people to agree to do it. Hahahahahaha.
May 22nd, 2008 at 9:35 pm
well, come on…..this picture is in no way evidence that she won’t show up in her traditional garb.
She is dirty and disheveled, and this is an origin story, is it not? Of course she will look different when she is done up.

I cant believe she left smallville for street fighter?
I believe she is not a that bad acor that shee needs to star in this kind of movies… it’s a shame!

I can’t wait to check out your site. I hope it’s chock full of grammatical errors just like your post. Maybe you actually can write well and you were just “acing” like you can’t.

The fan art is awesome! I haven’t seen a lot of Smallville to say whether or not she sucks or not as an actress but I think she at least looks the part…I’ll reserve judgment on this one.

@SUe:
thanks for making my day! ;)
You have to understand not everyone is american/english :) But it’s no excuse. Is just that I am always in a hurry and I do not double check my writing. The result is my previous post.
My only hope is I didn’t offend you with my sloppy writing and one day you can really and truly forgive me !

She looks too weak and thin. Chun-Li is meant to be tough (as well as hot)… remember those huge thighs???
May 23rd, 2008 at 1:07 am
Well the artist made up for it by giving Kreuk breasts!!! I’m sure she hoped she had them in reality too, lol!!!!

@BlabberStar.com
Sorry about that. But seriously, if you can deliver me my Britney Spears news, all is well. Where would I be without me Britney Spears news? I must know what she is doing at all times. Wait, what’s she famous for again and why do we care? I guess it really doesn’t matter anymore.

Kristin Kreuk is unbelievably HOT, and she is a pretty good actress.
But who are we kidding, a video game to movie translation based around a girl fighting character.
Straight to Download for this baby.
If people couldn’t have fun with DOA, this will be NO FUN.

Any news on the Tekken movie?
May 23rd, 2008 at 12:12 pm
Honestly please. Unless, your name is Kristin Kreuk news @ blabberstar.com or otherwise related can we please just leave it out of this. It is in no way related to the given topic and just annoying.
As for Kristin not being well defined…this is supposed to be a back story right? So maybe she wasn’t always as well built as we remembered…maybe she was once innocent and then her eyes were violently opened and…oh, what do I know anyways.

@ Chimaera
…and then she became Chinese.
Ok–I’ll bite. It is a Video Game to Movie adaptation. I wouldn’t be surprised.

Does it really matter that she’s not chinese? She could pass of for having some chinese hertiage. I’ve seen smallville and I can say she is a very well rounded actress. Don’t know about her holding her own movie but this is a movie that I will give a chance, and nothing so far has put me off.

@orange cinema and other non-gamers:
The reason why Capcom, made the movie is to celebrate the 20th anniversary for the “Street Fighter” game and to get new fans and gamers to buy the new “Street Fighter IV” game, which is already out in arcade but I guess will be out for consoles when the movie is out. Plus there is also a new “Street Fighter” online game coming soon. So actually “yeah there is still demand and interest in the “Street Fighter” series”. And I actually think its very clever marketing.
@ bershark
She is CHINESE, dude!!! Her father, Peter Kreuk, is of Dutch descent; her mother, Deanna Che, is of Chinese descent, but was born in Indonesia; her maternal grandmother is born in Jamaica of Chinese descent. (You can just tell by looking at her eyes)
Her first EVER role on TV was Chinese Canadian, Laurel Yeung on the Vancouver-shot show “Edgemont”. A casting director for the TV series contacted her secondary school, looking for an exotic-looking girl to play the part.. I just hope she’ll get some muscles for this movie.
Can’t wait for this movie to come out.

I agree with those of you who pointed out that this is supposed to be an origins story, so do not expect to see Chun Li in her full garb … at least not yet. Personally I like the look that she is sporting in this picture, because it has a sense of realism to it that most video game adaptations lack.
In my opinion the only video game adaptation into a movie that was decent was the first Mortal Kombat flick. Unfortunately the second one was an absolute disappointment. If the director for “The Legend of Chun Li” is wise hopefully he shall take into consideration all of these video game to movie adaptations to see where the have failed and succeeded. This is also true of comic to movie adaptations as well, but if the director ensures that the script is decent, not to mention worth the time and effort, then go through with it and do not try to rush and fill the movie with unnecessary elements (i.e. introducing too many characters, too many fights, little dialog/no real story, etc).
Thanks for reading my blurb.
