Wow, I found it so hard to believe that so many people here have not heard of Tin Tin before O_O When I was little it was one of those staple cartoon shows on TV and my elementary school library had a stock of Tin Tin comic books. I think Tin Tin is one of those properties that is famous world wide but for some reason never hit it off in the states. There is mad potential for this series if it's done right.

That brings a question into my brain... Is it a bad thing for an American director (such as Speilberg) to make a movie that is not necessarily for American audiences?

An actor has already been selected to play Tintin. He's 18 year old British actor Thomas Sangster last seen as the schoolboy in 1913 in Season 3 of Doctor Who.

I believe the DGA gets mad at you if you co-direct with a non-member or if one of the co-directors is working on another project simultaneously. But, really, what are they going to do? Shut your production down?

They are cool vampires in high school. You just need to read the book. Then you will understand its awesomeness.

oh, wait... Wrong thread.

I'm fine with the Tin Tin story, but that MoCap thing sure is a big turn off. Yuck.

Tin Tin is absolutely incredible source for this. For those of you who haven't read the comics, he's a young journalist who gets involved in all sorts of international jet-setting adventures that often deal with smugglers, kidnappers, drug runners, counterfeiters, espionage, treasure, and political revolutions, etc. with a lot of very colorful characters and clever dialogue (lots of Indiana Jones-type humor). The plots usually have a lot of twists and big big action sequences, plus some serious peril for our hero. Yeah, he has a dog and the dog does his thing and hangs out and occasionally helps TinTin out by attacking someone who is pointing a gun on our hero, but it's not like they are a dynamic duo and the dog is always involved in the action.

Peter, as to the two director dilemma... Of course, I remember the Sin City fiasco and noted the recent change of billing with the Coen Brothers, but recently thought about the Farrelly Brothers who didn't have to deal with the "established duo" business and have shared co-director billing since their first movie (Dumb & Dumber). Do you know what's up with that? I'm beginning to think that these rumored Guild rules don't actually exist.

Also Orange, instead of being ignorant like half of the /film readers or AICN flock, try looking it up before coming off negative.

Might do you some good, just a thought.

I'm confused. How are there already three movies lined up, but they're already pulling the plug on Narnia [for example]. At least Narnia is heard of and well known. I've heard of Tin Tin in passing, but couldn't tell you a thing about it. And based on the image above and your descriptions of it's so-called "awesomeness" i'm not seeing it.

From what it sounds like, we've already got something like all this.. it's called Lassie.

Someone please tell me what is going on. What is Tin Tin.

Aren't Spielberg and Jackson DGA? Isn't it against DGA rules to have 2 directors on one show? That's why Rodriguez quit the DGA, to co-direct Sin City with Frank Miller...

I hope they get Conan O'brian to play TinTin.

But seriously, blistering barnacles... this is one crazy colab. nothing but the best for one of the most seminal comics ever. I wonder how its going to work? I hope the best of these two melt into one super filmmaker and we get some diamond gold hybrid of a movie. Can't wait.

I think most people are scratching their heads but Tin Tin is great even though its underexposed in the us becuase its protag. is a book reader and not a bazooka lugging one line action jock (not that thats a bad thing but). but hey, mention to people that Spielberg and Jackson are making a comic book movie and then tell them its "Tin Tin". They'll scratch their heads.
