John Cusack and Chiwetel Ejiofor Cast in Roland Emmerich's 2012

John Cusack and Chiwetel Ejiofor (Redbelt) have been cast in Roland Emmerich’s sci-fi summer blockbuster movie 2012. An academic researcher opens a portal into a parallel universe and makes contact with his double in order to prevent an apocalypse predicted by the ancient Mayans. December 21st 2012 is the last day of the Mayan calendar, believed to be the end of the world.

Emmerich is best known as the director of Independence Day, Stargate and Universal Soldier. But as of recent years the German director has produced lackluster efforts: Godzilla, The Day After Tomorrow and 10,000 BC. Bad news is that Emmerich penned the screenplay with composer turned writer Harald Kloser, the same guy behind 10,000 BC. Hopefully the addition of Cusack will raise the level of this project.

2012 begins filming shooting in February 2009.

Hopefully this will be good but R.E’s films have been laackluster lately. Maybe with the addition of John Cusack and Chiwetel Ejiofor, the movie will have a chance.

and just how would Cusack’s presence make this a better film? ‘Must Love Dogs’ and ‘Martian Child’ don’t really make me think an elevation in this flick’s quality is in the cards.

expect crap. Ejiofor is a good actor. If he’s getting the pay check then good for him but its too bad he has to resort to something like this movie.

I’ve always wanted an actual sequel to Grosse Point Blank

bleh… I’m so sick of hearing that lol 2012 is the end of the Calender CYCLE. It’s happened before and will happen again. I can’t remember how long the cycles are off the top of my head but I guarantee you, after that date the calender restarts. To dumb it down, with our current calender, the world doesn’t end after 12 months. It restarts with January again.

*edit* on it happening before because I’m not sure what cycle we’re currently in

10,000 bc was the worst movie I have ever seen hopefully this will be better

I find it more likely that Ejiofor would raise the level of the product better than Cusack would.

Hopefully it will be released before 2012.
    (NOT KIDDING)

If anybody elevates this it will be Ejiofor. He’s an amazing actor. Cusack gets credit for trying hard but his taste in questionable with the added bonus of being kind of pretentious. Why would Cusack do this? For the paycheck and so he can act visibly embarrassed when he’s out promoting it.

Man. My Birthday is Dec. 21st.

If they wanted to make a 2012 movie, they could have at least followed the tale tales and whatnot, not just conjured one up out of thin air.

I like how you put Redbelt as Chiwetel Ejiofor’s credit. I guess maybe you put it because it’s his newest, but there are tons of better ones to pick from like Children of Men, Inside Man, or Serenity .

Anything with Chiwetel gets my vote.
