Wanted

Empire has posted a very cool featurette for the upcoming big screen adaptation of Mark Millar’s Wanted. The behind-the-scenes look might actually make you excited to the the film. Intercuting panels from the comic book with sequences from the film, the cast and crew from the film explain why this movie might actually be worth looking forward to.

Some of the visuals are nothing less than insane. Like the sequence when the camera follows a bullet through a glass window reminded me of The Wachowski Brothers. Or the sequence in the office when James McAvoy attacks someone with a keyboard. Or how about when the guy kills a fly with a bullet from his gun. If anything, this movie will have some fantastically insane original action sequences. Before I saw this new featurette I had very little interest at all in seeing this movie, but all of a sudden can’t wait to see Wanted. What do you guys think?

Wanted hits theaters on June 27th 2008.

I always had a good feeling about this one. There are just so many different kinds of cool in that featurette that it can't possible be bad. Plus it's got Angelina Jolie in it! You can't go wrong with that shit.

    Thanks Peter!

"Wanted Featurette Will Actually Make You Excited to See The Movie"

I don't know how excited I am about this "action comic book adaption film thing"
  • user
    Looks pretty awesome...
  • JFK
    @duca

    wow... vague.
  • The Dude
That keyboard scene sold me. I'm there.
I'll be at the front of the line opening day.
  • Ben
I was a big fan of the book and was disappointed that they sort of didn't care about it at all it seemed. Guess I was wrong cause this movie looks sweet. Loved the keyboard thing. I wonder how well this will do.

I can't stand this cast at all. Sorry....
Morgan Freeman and Jolie need to take a long vacation out of films with action and gunplay.

And the Kung Fu bullets suck the reality out of this.

I won't be anywhere near this.
  • charles
It looks like what "Shoot'em Up" wanted to be.
  • Sean
Yeah, look at all the panels they showed in comparison with the comic book. Wow. So Many. Mitigated Action Boredom. When somebody actually has enough gall to film the actual comic book let me know.
  • "Wanted" looks so alwsome!!!! I can't wait to see it, it will be the next movie I'll be watching in theaters.
  • evan
Hasn't the "camera following bullet" thing been done enough already? I don't see how that is original. And is it me, or are these graphic novels simply storyboards for future movies? It's like directors don't even have to do anything anymore.
  • duca
    @JFK

*shrugs* I just think it looks cool.
  • Tendrillar
I still don't think I want to see this movie. Especially when the director refers to his own work as "edgy".

Maybe ten years ago. I would have flipped my shit. But, eh.
  • HellRaZoR
ugh. Wanted was a terrible comic book, nothing could make me excited about this one
  • I was expecting your basic action movie with maybe a couple of really cool scenes but this featurette actually made me pretty excited. It was the keyboard scene that really sold me.
  • Captain Awesome
This will be a cable release for me.
  • thefan
I find that really hard to believe.
  • jackal27
I never really had a vendetta against this film like some people did, I think it has alot of things working for it and even it's kind of ridiculous, I'll still be able to laugh like I did with Shoot Em' Up (which I'm pretty sure was SUPPOSED to be ridiculous)

I think it'll be a good movie though, I'm certainly more excited after watching this.
  • Hefty Lefty
I'm still not sold on this movie yet. I mean, don't get me wrong, it does look really bad ass with all the kool action and stuff. But I am a huge fan of the comic book. I think that Morgan Freeman is a poor choice for the doctor, and the Fox is not white, she's black, but thats w/e. I haven't seen anything in any of the trailer about the underground organization of criminals that the entire comic book is based on. From the previews I've seen. Morgan Freeman makes it sound like they are the good guys. Also, I have yet to hear anything about shit head, or any of the other non-human super villains. These other villains are essential to the plot of the book.

Bottom line, if you haven't read the comic, then this movie should be a good action flick for you to check out. If you are a fan of the comic, as I am, you will probably come out of the theater saying "WTF, where the hell are all the coolest parts of the comic? Did they even read the source material? I guess not."
  • bleh
isnt the story now about them all being assassins and not supervillians? i dont care how many scenes are just like the panels if the story is changed that much
  • GregoryV
im with you peter. i didnt care for the film because it reminded of some high end john woo flick but after watching the featurette, im totally looking forward to it.
  • YoungZe
Okay, the keyboard scene got me. I think it's fascinating how much respect Timur Bekmambetov has for the comic book.
  • Luls
Jesus they must have paid Mark Millar the fuck off, considering how cool he is wit hthe dramatic shift.
  • Takashi Miike Myers
Well I loved Night Watch and i LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE Angelina so I'll be there the day it doesn't come out in Australia (Shoot Em Up went straight to DVD here)
I wish they'd give Takashi this kind of budget then the s--- will really get f---ed up!

    BULLET-TIME is new again!!!!111111oneoneone

I'm in. There's a lot of cool shots in that featurette and I think it looks like the film has a lot going for it. I'm a comic book guy and I could care less if a film follows a comic book. They are different mediums with different audiences. Like it or not, Wanted, like Twilight, has to shoot for a bigger audience than its core reading fan base.

I read in Creative Screenwriting that the writers met with Millar regularly and they actually were writing the film before Millar had completed portions of the book series. Seems odd, but that's what they said. The screenwriters and Millar stumbled into synchronicity in spots and other bits had to find their own form. They made a conscious choice to ground the film in a firmer reality, thus leaving out some of the elements that were a little further out there.
  • Chad
The keyboard scene has me hooked too. Kind of crazy, considering that I didn't give a fuck about this movie at all, until this featurette came along.
  • 790
( They made a conscious choice to ground the film in a firmer reality, thus leaving out some of the elements that were a little further out there...)

What reality do you live in,,,? Bullets that fly around the good characters only too continue on to kill the baddies.
    Comical....
Joile looks like a crack whore. The look on her mug during the action scenes looks disturbing and she looks anorexic. (IMO) She should really stick to adopting foriegn children.
Anyway can't wait for the review. Ha ha.
  • Steelo
If they have a bad guy mad of crap it's on
  • fex
I don't get it. What is it i'm suposed to be so excited about? I wrote this one off early. Guess I was right.
  • B
Meh, I want to see it. It might not be THE BEST ACTION MOVIE I'VE EVER SEEN, but it still looked awesome enough to hold my attention. & I really like James McAvoy. This featurette should be some airplay tho, since it made the movie look waaay more interesting than just that poster of Angelina & whatever else has been said about it.
  • gocitizen
    @790
"firmer" reality. I didn't mean to confuse.
Just repeating what I read in that mag.

It would seem that reality is selective when it comes to film fans. Do we draw the line before or after bat vigilantes?
  • 790
Gocitizen, yeah I hear ya I'm just kinda laughing at the Matrix-bullet vfx's. And Jolie .... Lol.
When bullets take on a life of their own, I get thrown out of that reality. When I see lead slugs buzzing around things, it just looks funny. Like a Roadrunner cartoon.
(Is that what there going for?). I don't know?

The film "Runaway" had bullets that would lock on and never stop until they hit you. But those bullets were fired from a custom weapon and they were mini-rockets basically.

From what I've seen it looks like a special barrel causes the bullets to curve? (Total bullcrap). I need bullets to obey the laws of physics. Maybe its just me. :-)
  • Dave
    DAMN....
This is a "Day it opens" type of movie. I thought the book was good, but this looks fantastic.
  • cellchild
i'm not a fan of comic books (it was stupidly epatage and there were huge problems with storytelling) but this movie rocks!
  • Floppy
It does look a lot better in the featurette than those horrible trailers. A couple parts remind me of the music video "Freak on a Leash".
  • Bobby
I'm there. I was sold when I saw the teaser trailer last year.
  • ifthenwhy
I have to say the "Bullet Time" Matrix-like bullet slo-mo trajectories are getting pretty played. This film/trailer defiantly looses points for it's dependance on visuals that were cutting edge 10 years ago.

But having said that, it does look kinda fun?
  • YoungZe
Damn Mark Millar is so hard to understand. :?
  • Alex
    Heres what I think:

Bullet time - Cant get away from it, its everywhere now.

Jolie - Whatever, she's not bad

Freeman - You dont fit this role

Curving bullets - Seriously, wtf! He may be a good shot, but thats just retarded

A movie that feels like a comic book - Sweet
  • Candy Smith
angelina jolie will ruin the whole movie for James McAovy, she hasnt made a good movie sense Mr and Mrs Smith!!!!!!!
poor James, do some research on who's big here and who's not, please, I love your movies and will see them but your scraping the bottom of the barrel with anglina jolie.
  • Jay
DON'T GO SEE THIS MOVIE!!! It has nothing to do with the source material they're just using the name and the fact that its based of a comic to sell it.PICK UP WANTED AT YOUR LOCAL COMIC SHOP AND READ THE REAL STORY AND DON'T GO SEE THIS CRAP!!!
