Universal has released the official teaser trailer for The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. While some of the production photos actually gave me a little hope, I think this new trailer proves there is no hope. What was I thinking, this movie is directed by Rob Cohen, the same guy responsible for Stealth, xXx, and The Fast and the Furious. An army of undead warriors?! Watch the trailer below and tell me what you think in the comments!
The annoyingly long official plot synopsis: The blockbuster global Mummy franchise takes a spellbinding turn as the action shifts to Asia for the next chapter in the adventure series, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. Brendan Fraser returns as explorer Rick O’Connell to combat the resurrected Han Emperor (Jet Li) in an epic that races from the catacombs of ancient China high into the frigid Himalayas. Rick is joined in this all-new adventure by son Alex (newcomer Luke Ford), wife Evelyn (Maria Bello) and her brother, Jonathan (John Hannah). And this time, the O’Connells must stop a mummy awoken from a 2,000-year-old curse who threatens to plunge the world into his merciless, unending service.
Doomed by a double-crossing sorceress (Michelle Yeoh) to spend eternity in suspended animation, China’s ruthless Dragon Emperor and his 10,000 warriors have laid forgotten for eons, entombed in clay as a vast, silent terra cotta army. But when dashing adventurer Alex O’Connell is tricked into awakening the ruler from eternal slumber, the reckless young archaeologist must seek the help of the only people who know more than he does about taking down the undead: his parents.
As the monarch roars back to life, our heroes find his quest for world domination has only intensified over the millennia. Striding the Far East with unimaginable supernatural powers, the Emperor Mummy will rouse his legion as an unstoppable, otherworldly force…unless the O’Connells can stop him first. Now, in The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, the trademark thrills and visually spectacular action of the Mummy series will be redefined for a new generation.
The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor is helmed by director Rob Cohen (The Fast and the Furious, xXx) and written by Alfred Gough & Miles Millar (Spider-Man 2, television’s Smallville). Reprising their roles as producers in the series are Bob Ducsay, Sean Daniel, Stephen Sommers and James Jacks.
The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor will hit theaters on August 1st 2008.

I don’t know why.. but the guy that does the voiceover work for these movie trailers.. for some reason during this specific trailer, I just really get the feeling that this guy is rolling his eyes as he reads this shit into a microphone.
May 16th, 2008 at 1:27 am
the CGI is kinda mehh
May 16th, 2008 at 1:33 am
take “original” brendan fraser mummy…
replace egypt with china…
and desert with snowy alps…
(make sure you keep a scene with someone piloting something who has a slapstick nonsensical neglect for life)
with a film being so fresh and original….
i LOVE IT!
dude what the HELL!!!!!
May 16th, 2008 at 1:44 am
couldn’t be any worse than The Mummy Returns or Scorpion King…I kinda like the Yeti folklore being added…
May 16th, 2008 at 1:45 am
This doesn’t look to bad to me
I’ll watch it when comes out.
May 16th, 2008 at 1:45 am
oh man there they go shooting a thousand arrows in the sky at once( cause we haven’t seen that before). i wonder if they’re going to hit jet-li’s character again, killing him in the end. now wouldn’t that be interesting?
May 16th, 2008 at 2:06 am
jank,
I loved HERO ;)
May 16th, 2008 at 2:17 am
I loved the original Mummy, but this looks kind of bad, and for want of a better term, Brendan Fraser’s son looks lame.
May 16th, 2008 at 2:31 am
As much as I like Maria Bello, I’m missing Rachel Weisz. She was great in the first film (which, as far as I’m concerned, is near great). This looks pretty good. It’ll make for a sweet matinee, methinks.
May 16th, 2008 at 2:55 am
I actually expectel a lot worse…
might be entertaining
and Allynd, stop bitchin about CGI all the time.. why the eff you to judge all the CGI movies?
May 16th, 2008 at 3:45 am
Looks great. I realy don´t know why are you all so pissed off.
May 16th, 2008 at 3:53 am
I’ll give that I miss Rachel in this but I’ll give Maria a chance…I really liked the first two and the fact that Jet Li is in this one pretty much guarantees that I’ll see it when it does come out. As for the undead armies…it is The Mummy.
May 16th, 2008 at 4:17 am
Its looks awful.
May 16th, 2008 at 4:38 am
WOW - okay, you gotta admit, compared to the last two mummies, this one looks A LOT more inventive and intense. And I’m sorry, but compared to the INDY trailers we’ve been getting - this looks MUCH more energetic, fantastical and fun.
May 16th, 2008 at 4:43 am
I must say it looks sick. Never thought it would have been attractive to me but damn i cant wait to see Brendan Frasier and Jet Li together.
May 16th, 2008 at 5:07 am
This looks dumb, really dumb and who ever says that it looks inventive works for the stutio. The special effects looks horrible and the son looks worse than Anikin Skywalker in the last star wars film.
The worst trailer of the summer by far.
May 16th, 2008 at 5:13 am
The first 2 films being on my popcorn-flick top-list, it’s a given that I’ll watch this one as well. Trailer looks neat, can’t wait!
May 16th, 2008 at 5:28 am
Not feeling it at all. looks really stupid.
May 16th, 2008 at 5:28 am
I enjoyed the first immensly, not so much the second. This one looks like it could be good.
May 16th, 2008 at 5:37 am
I liked whoever cut the trailer. It made me feel like watching a movie I really don’t want to pay to watch.
May 16th, 2008 at 5:43 am
Bah, Its looks straight to DVD to me.
May 16th, 2008 at 6:01 am
I going to see it.
Bad CGI and tired plot aside. It could be alot of fun to watch.
May 16th, 2008 at 6:04 am
Probably the worst trailer i have seen all year.
May 16th, 2008 at 6:17 am
looks crazy
May 16th, 2008 at 6:49 am
So there’s Bumble from Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, a drunk Russian pilot, Liu Kang’s dragon fatality, the end scene from Hero, the Chinese necrinomicon, Brendan Fraser’s fivehead, fireworks, and mummies fighting zombies? You say cluster I say fuck.
May 16th, 2008 at 6:49 am
I’ll probably end up seeing this but it looks pretty ridiculous. Though it can’t possible be worse than Returns. It looks like a cross between the original movie and a Hong Kong marshal arts film.
May 16th, 2008 at 6:52 am
lemmie guess, the HERO character comes back alive.
this should be interesting. i would have never thought they would bill this a brendan fraser AND jet li movie. awesome.
May 16th, 2008 at 6:53 am
Teaser trailer?
Fuck me, i feel like i just saw the whole damn movie!
Why oh why do they need to give everything away in the trailers these days? It breaks my heart.
May 16th, 2008 at 8:00 am
Looks alright. Loved the yeti. It does indeed look intense.
May 16th, 2008 at 8:13 am
My only thing is that why is Brendan Fraser’s son look like he’s twenty-something years old while Brendan Fraser still looks the same? wasn’t the son 8 or something in the last film? So between the last film and this one, the son aged a good 12 years while everyone stayed the same?
May 16th, 2008 at 8:41 am
think that it looks like it could be entertaining.
May 16th, 2008 at 8:48 am
Buuu!
May 16th, 2008 at 9:40 am
Why’d they make Brendan Frasier look like a midget in the poster?? Look at his arms :P
May 16th, 2008 at 10:10 am
Two words: KICK ASS.
More words: CGi looked very decent (will have to judge again when viewing the HD version), lots of action, epic battles (looks like the Massive crowd-multiplication software being used once again)… just everything looks bigger and better…Can’t wait to see the full trailer!
May 16th, 2008 at 10:18 am
Total crap. How is it that writers and directors (or pushy producers) seem to constantly forget that you don’t need to fix something if it isn’t broken? Returns added WAY too much camp, WAY too many one liners and this seems to have done the same. There is no menace in the villain AGAIN and too many pointless CGI grunts fighting too quickly with a rapidly moving camera. Imhotep did not transform into a giant monster at the end of the first film and it worked fine, by the looks of the dragon…I guess they’ve forgotten that too.

MSN has a 720p version up now: http://movies.msn.com/movies/movie.aspx?m=2114511&mp=m
VFX/action looks great in HD. Looking forward to this.
May 16th, 2008 at 11:01 am
Looks entertaining in that horrible way. Probably not gonna see it till it hits netflix.
May 16th, 2008 at 11:20 am
I can’t say anything bad about it. I liked both Mummies, so why would this be worse. I do wish Rachel Weisz was still in the series. I’ll wait till the reviews come out before I see it.
May 16th, 2008 at 11:27 am
The original Mommy is one of my favourite popcorn flicks. Just the right amount of cheese mixed with action to make it necessary viewing every time it’s on TV. This one.. I dunno. I’ll probably borrow it off a friend when it comes on DVD. Doesn’t look horrible, but doesn’t look great either.
May 16th, 2008 at 11:37 am
Considering the first two Mummy movies were mediorce
popcorn flicks I don’t expect a lot from this one. The
trailer did nothing to change my feelings about how we didn’t
need another installment. At least there is a different setting,
but all the same one liners seem to be plugged into place. YAY!
May 16th, 2008 at 1:23 pm
i like the trailer and poster, ill definitely download a copy of this when its released.
May 16th, 2008 at 1:48 pm
Honestly, it doesnt look that bad. As long as i get to see Michelle Yeoh’s Sexy ass fight Jet Li im happy!!!
May 16th, 2008 at 2:27 pm
Why does that poster have the credits for “The Dark Knight”?
May 16th, 2008 at 3:03 pm
It doesnt have much hope. It’s defenitely something a 5th grader would enjoy. The CGI wasn’t bad. I wish I could say the same for the humor they tried to say though. TAYLORDUBOSE I have to agree with you about the pilot thing. In all the movies it’s some man that owes bredan fraiser a favor or something and can never really say anything funny. I’ll probobly end up checking this out.
May 16th, 2008 at 3:09 pm
oh yeah i forgot to add this, Why do they insist on having a women fight a man? I hate it when films do this and try to make women seem tuff or something. Jet Li could put that bitch in her place with just his legs and no eyes. Thats just rediculous.
May 16th, 2008 at 5:39 pm
@ Flint: holy shark repellent, it DOES have Dark Knight’s creds… is this a fan poster?
May 16th, 2008 at 6:02 pm
Looks better than I thought it would and a hellva lot better than the last Mummy Movie.
May 16th, 2008 at 6:24 pm
actually, it looks pretty good (not great, but fun; like the other mummy movies)
May 16th, 2008 at 6:33 pm
I really liked the first two and this trailer has me waiting for the next trailer. I’m not excited yet, but it seems decent enough.
May 16th, 2008 at 11:10 pm
well…..its the mummy……so, I’m sure it’ll be a fun guilty-pleasure sort of movie. I’ll just go into it expecting to see a mindless romp, and hopefully I won’t leave any dumber. What I’m getting at is that I’m on the fence. We’ll just have to wait and see I guess.
May 17th, 2008 at 2:15 am
Looks cool and Brendon is allways good.
May 17th, 2008 at 9:04 am
@ Flint & Enrique
Have either of you figured out why it has the credits for The Dark Knight? It’s plan as day if you zoom in on it but there’s no reason.
@ Peter
Do you happen to know why?
May 18th, 2008 at 10:13 pm
Liked the first movie, lots of fun to watch - second was ok and still fun to watch - BUT this third … too much CGI, a rather unbelievable villain ( a ‘Chinese mummy’ who is not actually a mummy) , and the son …. the less said the better. The plot… she’s an Egyptologist and the son (from the second movie seems to be an aspiring one as well) why are they in China? Ancient Egypt has so many incredible legends, myths and stories - couldn’t the writers of thought of anther great Egyptian tale?! If not Egypt then the middle east in general has so much to offer in terms of myths and legends…. So sad… something I probably will not watch until it comes out on DVD.
June 18th, 2008 at 8:16 am
It is going to be great…I loved the first two and I’m sure I’ll love this one. For you poeple who are saying the CGI lokks horrible, SHUT THE F@#%$ up, jesus they effects look pretty damn good so pull ur head out of your reer end. ALl you people are just looking for something bad about this movie when there really isnt anything
