SAW V and VI Details Revealed

SAW V LogoLionsgate has revealed new details about the future of the SAW franchise. The fifth installment, follows Hoffman (Costas Mandylor), who has been carrying Jigsaw’s (Tobin Bell) legacy, goes on a man hunt after the secret is threatened.

“People escape one trap, just to get caught in another; it’s closer in feel to the original SAW as thematically it’s about teamwork. I am far and away convinced that these are the best traps we have ever had,” Producer Marc Berg told Bloody-Disgusting. “This film is far less confusing and more linear, and there are TWO great twists. Just when you thought you figured it out, we twist again.”

The film features six different traps and they shot three different endings, which will be included on the eventual DVD release. The full supporting announce was also announced, and includes: Scott Patterson, Betsy Russell, Mark Rolston, Carlo Rota, Julie Benz, Greg Bryk, Laura Gordon and Meagan Good. David Hackl directed the fifth film but will not be returning for the sixth installment after all. I wonder if the studio replaced him or if this was his own choice. SAW series editor Kevin Greutert will be making his feature directorial debut on Saw VI. Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton are back to pen the screenplay.

Also announced is a SAW video game which was written by franchise creators Leigh Whannell and James Wan, featuring all of the original cast members, and will take place in the timeline of the original film. Saw V is scheduled to hit theaters on October 24th, 2008.

god damn it - stop making saw movies!!!!!!

the first saw movie was great.
all the other movies in this franchise are pure crap
  • Agony
I'm actually a fan of this series, and I think it's storytelling has been underestimated or completely ignored. If you follow the Jigsaw mythology, it goes through all 4 films to date, with each adding more to the overall story. Granted, we're not talking Oscar by any stretch, but because of the whole "torture-porn" thing, people overlook the story because of the gruesome traps and sometimes bad acting. At any rate, they're smarter than the Hostel films, and the slew of similar movies that have come out over the past few years (I'm looking at you, Captivity).

With that said, I agree it's time to move on, especially if they're getting away from Jigsaw and the writer's are focusing more on the traps than the story.
  • Jordan
i thought saw iv was great story wise. they really got intricate with it.
  • OAKside
They will stop making Saw "films" when they stop making a decent profit. Blame all the retards that will pay to see trash (there's much worse than Saw), and unfortunately there's a lot of them in the States. The horror genre needs some new blood.
  • Albert Brodsky
The first "Saw" was terrible. The story was lame, and the acting was terrible. I love it when Danny Glover discovers some guy tied up in the lair of the bad guy, and instead of freeing him he hides to see what the bad guy is going to do. Priceless-ly bad. The days of great fiction are over thanks to the droves of people who are getting dumber by the minute.
  • Eric
    A SAW Video game!?!?

Uh oh. I hear Jack Johnson coming
  • duca
I have this friend, who I shall from here on out call "Andrew". Andrew is not a very smart person and spends a lot of his time watching movies. Everytime a movie comes out I ask him, "Hey Andrew, have you watched this? Is it any good?" The more he likes the movie, the less I want to see it. He likes Uwe Boll movies. I mean, LIKES them a lot. And defends them. He is the perfect example of the mass stupidity and brain deadness of todays citizens. He is very excited to see Zombie Strippers. The media tells him "Hey, this is cool!" and he believes them. So whenever I'm not sure about a movie I just ask him, and then I know. :)

He would be totally stocked for this.
  • Agony
There's plenty of great storytelling left in Hollywood, in all genres. Horror movies generally take a beating among "serious" film fans, but there's plenty of great horror films too. The Descent comes to mind as a really good recent example.

Have they gotten carried away with sequels? Well, yeah, but I'm officially calling out all of you that claim to be smarter than everyone else. Saw had a really great and original premise, and Jigsaw is one of the best slasher horror villains to have come along in years. Are there moments in these films that are poorly executed? Absolutely. But no more so than the highly geek-praised Hostel films, which have about three good scenes between the two. Another good premise, but completely lame execution.

What I was trying to say is that the Jigsaw scenes in the 4 movies that have been released so far contain a really great character and story. This gets overlooked by the ridiculous gore and dumb victims. Which is pretty standard for most horror movies.

I suspect that some of you are just not horror fans. And if you don't like them, then don't go see them. There are tons of indie and art films that are worth watching as well. Different films for different times and moods, right?

And please don't insult my intelligence because I like some horror movies you think are stupid, especially when some of you missed my point entirely.
  • Trebek
Saw 5 and 6?...I've only seen the first 2 and that was enough for me.
  • Chris
Why do people complain about a movie they dont have to see?

Nice to hear of these movies.Thought the SAW series is pretty decent
  • ionela
    ALL SAW STORYES ARE GREATTTT
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CANT WAIT TO SEE 5 AND 6!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
  • victor
I agree with Chris. Stop complaining when all you have to do is dont watch it. Maybe its just haters tho cause the same people complaining are gonna go and watch it as well. Smh....
  • Joe
I think the series is great and it keeps gettin better. I do like some horror but most are laughable. Agony says it all and if ya do not like the movie do not watch but that is not your cue to attack...To each their own....
  • this is just my thoughts but...

i think the saw films are the only ever horror/suspense film ever to pull off sequals. i love these movies. everytime i see one i cant wait for the next. but thats just me
  • I Like All The Saws and I'm not stupid actually I have a 4.2 gpa but anyways I like them okay blood and guts yes but that's a horror film...beginning with Freddie and Jayson until now with Saw they have an overal good message shown through a sick and twisted way but its true most people dnt cherish their lives so that's the moral I'm not condoning or telling people hey go make a trap and kill people cuz its not right..but maybe this movies was not made for the simple minding if you dnt get the message oh well you like what you like your all entitled to your own opinions
  • Roy
I'm a horror fan!As in big!But the problem right now is that all the horrors are the same!We have, your usual victim/s,killer and survivors.I havent been scared by any slasher for lyk 12 yrz.I'm bored!!Now Saw,is on another level! It aint your usual kill and laugh situation. Its,to put it simply,MIND-BLOWING!Keep up the excellent work!
  • kctobyjoe
    Amanda 'designed' the gun trap
NOW we are to believe Hoffman can design TRAPS too? It takes the mind of an ENGINEER to do what these people CLAIM to have done. THAT is probably the part of the films *I* have a problem with. I have an Assoc Degree in Mech Engineering. You do NOT JUST WANT TO BE an Engineer. If it isn't in your blood you are wasting your time...just like the LAMEO Army commercial that a kid THINKS he will be an Engineer. GIVE ME A F**G BREAK!
  • Lord Artemis
I think you are being alittle over dramatic here. If you actually paid attention in the movies and used common sense you would know that they had access to a engineer. They worked with him, studied his art, ETC. Im sure at some point in time. While they were doing stuff with him. They had a good idea for a trap and he helped them to develop the idea further. He wasnt that far gone that he couldnt have atleast doen that. Further more. Im sure they he had a bunch of ideas/traps started and used the others to help in the finishing of them. So it is reasonable to think that they would ahve either had the knowledge to figure it out. Or had the access to someone that could help them develop and create there ideas. Hoffman in the sense that he had been studing Jigsaws work in the very beginning, enough to make the trapt to kill his sisters killer(Which in the movie even Jigsaw says it was an inferior trap) And also, if you noticed Amanda's trap was rather simple. Nothing extreme or complex like Jigsaws or Hoffmens usuals. Again, i feel that it is easy to think that he could have had the knowledge and the know how to make the traps and if not, they were close to someone that could help them do it.
  • Saw have a great premise and there is a lot of thought put into them to keep them original. It takes some hard work to use a low budget and some unknown actors and make a great franchise that keeps delivering excellence, keep up the good work Saw. As for a videogame, I do not believe it will be any good the way they describe it. "pick up weapons throught the game"??? that is not what saw is about. Make it a survival horror like condemned 2, assume the role of a new detective who goes to the after results of a crimescene (cue the condemned forensics game element), then have a flashback where you go into a 1st person POV and replay the events of the trap. That would make a truly successful game. Please dont ruin the Saw game!!!
  • oh, and go to bloody-disgusting.com, and go to where betsy russel talks about saw V, down at the user comments, about half way down you'll find a couple of websites at photo bucket. These are supposedly the first parts of the script for Saw 5. I dont know if they are legit, but I enjoyed reading them, got me excited if it were true. I mean, how else would Hoffmans secret be threatened unless Amanda lived???
  • Sean
I really like all SAW films that have been released, the twists are exciting and most of them unpredictable (Which is nice) I think what's been written already is true... Why watch it then moan about it? How about watch Saw 1, if you don't like it... don't watch the next 3 & write about how bad it is. C'mon, I'm sure if you had better idea's then you'd be earnin A LOT more £ and be producing a movie to hit our screens right now. Wow I sound like a right moany old bitch. ;-) Enjoy Saw 5 & 6 for those of you waiting & for those who watch it & then moan about them all... I Look forward to seein your movie on youtube.
  • Heather
All I have to say is they better f888in explain what is going on with the little girl!!!!!
  • Jesus
i agree with heather. there are to many questions left unanswered liKe:
*whatever happened to the little girl
    *did Dr.lawrence ever die?!
*did that one chick in saw 4 the dective ever die 2
*how does jigsaw know what's gonna happen exactly, what would happen if something went wrong?!
*whatever happened to Dr.lawrence wife and kid?!!!!!!
its like every saw film has to have a weird ending so that they can make another one.
OH!!! and actually since saw 3 they havent done anything new because saw 3 ends with that dude, jigsaw, amanda and that other doctor. then amanda shoots dr.denlyon or wtf. then her husband shoots her and she dies. then its just jigsaw and him.he kills jigsaw, that thing goes off and shoots that girl in the face. that dude hears the tape, his duaghter is where?!?!? dont know. then it ends.
saw 4 starts with autopsy.they open jigsaw and thats it. what happens later already happened because towards the end of saw 4 they're all in the same buling as saw 3 when the movie was over. so saw 5 will have to show everything that REALLY happened after the autopsy.if they dont my love for saw will be OVER! hope you can all understand this..its hard to explain. but questions e-mail me at loco_0913@yahoo.ocm
  • Sydney
The saw movies r amazing i hope they never stop makin them well i hope that they go out wit a bang like all of the movies so far.... nd to all the haters u can hav ur own opinion but just because u dont enjoy the pure genius of these movies, it dont mean that hundreds of thousands of other people agree with u we all hav r own taste in movies nd the saw movies arnt for u nd if u dnt like them then y even bother watching them nd just let the other people enjoy them... Saw rocks my socks so ha!!!! lol
  • Dominic
Don't understand all those negative comments.
Folks, if you are not interested or don't like the franchise why read the topic in the first place?

    I m a big fan of Saw.
And to point out - it's not really a horror movie - the genre has long since died. Saw is absolutely different genre yet to be defined.
  • J
They should stop moving forward really in the saw films, as there making it shit and leaving 2 many un answered questions, if they never reveal what happened to doctor Gordon then that will be quite shit. I thought Saw 4 was quite shocking as it just left you confused and even more ancious to watch the nxt film, tho n#5 looks like a good film, reminds me of saw 2, tho i hope they end it at Saw 6 having all the questions answered
  • Brian Adams
The way I see it, they left Gordon and Obi unexplained all this time for a reason. Since III, they knew they were gonna make Hoffman involved with Jigsaw (pocketting evidence at Troy's Classroom Trap). Now that they've explained the fact the Hoffman's ben an apprentice sicne before Saw, they can easily go back and explain Gordon and Obi, since Hoffman was more than likely involved as instructed by Jigsaw. They can also go back and easily explain all the questions about Art's traps (Mausoleum trap, and Neck Splitter Trap), and provide further insight behind his games. We'll probably see Amanda return once again in Saw VI to explain what happened between her and Hoffman for the Inescapable Traps (Classroom Trap, Angel Trap).
  • Jigsawlover
We can not wait for 5 to be released. SAW movie night is my husband's and I only movie date night alone and we are super stoked. Every year we only go on one date without our daughter, SAW movie night is that night.

#1 by far was the best, small budget, simple idea for the most part, super creepy and smart. #2 cemented it for us, the twists and turns were just amazing, sure we could tell it had a bigger budget and in a way it took away from it, but now as we are on the cusp of #5's release we are impressed with the writers and directors cast and crew and we are excited to see what comes next and what twists are revealed in regards to past movies and those to come.

As long as they do not let it get stale and never really get rid of Tobin Bell I will stay with it. I love Tobin, this is his movie.

We will always find people who love and hate the same movies, it is a personal opinion... we happen to love the franchise. We own dual copies of each one so far, the boxed set with the puppets face is freaky cute.

Keep the twists and turns and keep us on the edge of our seats, this is the first and only horror movie that I have ever enjoyed this much, it is more than just slash and dash, blood and guts, but it is smart an makes you think and keeps you guessing and you have to pay attention or you lose out on key points.

Love it! Halloween Saw movie date night and A new Saw movie in my Christmas stocking... it doesn't get better than that!!!!!
  • sAw Fr34K
I love the Saw films and am actually having a Saw party 2mro in preparation of the new film to be released on the 24th I cannot wait until 2009 in October for the sixth installment, but first i must watch the fifth one. So heres to hoping the fifth one is as good as the first four! Cheers
  • Pebbles
What I don't get is why do ppl come onto a website or article that talks about a film they obviously don't like....It is a waste of time. If you don't like the movie then by all means don't bother to pay and see it, but ranting and raving about how you hate a film or asking them to stop making it is just plain silly. If you are making money from it why in hell would you ever stop doing it. There are lots of ppl out ther that enjoy this movie franchise...me included. I say as long as the movie holds my inteerests I will continue to watch, these movies have been some of the best slasher flicks done in a long time. What I would really like is for the American directors to stop trying to redo the Japanese flims....
  • Brian Adams
Good point. I say the same. My only comment is that Saw isn't a slasher film. The story plays out, and people get themselves into situations. Jigsaw researches them, abducts them, and puts them in games where they have a choice of doing something and living, or failing and dying. it just happens to be that Jigsaw's ideals about human nature are true, and few of his subjects have survived. To quote Jigsaw from Saw II:

"You see, Detective, Darwin's theory of evolution, "survival of the fittest," based on his little trip to the Galapagos, no longer applies on this planet. We have a human race that does not have the edge or the will to survive."
  • andre
they need to stop killing their fucking protagonist all the time saw IV's protagonist was the best i think, and they kill him off, and jigsaw damn it he's fucking dead they need to stop revealing new shit that he's done while his corpse is decomposing it's not even fucking consistent anymore, the series is becoming more fake and non-believable as it continues, they should just fucking stop now, or they should have never killed off jigsaw in the first place, i'm getting tired of seeing his fucking flunkies wanting to be like him
  • Brian Adams
They killed Jigsaw at the end of Saw III (and technically IV), but only because it made sense. He was dying of cancer, and he didn't have much longer to live anyways. They didn't kill off his replacement, because after Saw V, he escapes from that box in the floor and goes to Jigsaw's autopsy. He's not dead. The way I see it, the only thing left to explain about him is the games that must have taken place between Cecil and Seth (When Hoffman is called in to see seth's trap, the officer says "another Jigsaw trap". This implies that more games took place after Cecil that have yet to be revealed.)
  • Jigsawlives
I love this series. I hope they do with this what they've done with Halloween, Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street.
  • Brenton
Saw V is bad ass and I really hope they come out with a Saw VI
  • Q_man
you guys are so lame and stupid.. that's what it's all about.. it's supposed to leave you with questions.. wat's gonna happen next? makes you cant wait to see the other releases os saw. you cant ask questions- you just have to watch all the saw movies, then go back anc watch the previous one to understand. there is no way you can watch them once and understand them- there are hidden clues all through the movies that you wont pick up so easily.. its all about "rehabilitation and understanding",, jigsaw got amamda because she passed her 1st test- but ultimately, that was just the beginning, him hiring her waz her real test- the same with hoffman- but then they started makin the traps too difficult, which was not jigsaw's style- so he kept letting them make traps, but he himself had already altered the traps to keep testin them- its like he said "if you kno how to predict the human mind- you'll know what they would do next".. he could tell who would pass and who would fail the tests.

Love the fact that you can make multiple sequels and they just keep getting better. Each movie is great, there are twists, turns, and crazy story lines. Keep up the good work!
  • Icehound
I know the Saw series is the best. i've seen all five the day after they came out, and i bought the movies the day they came out. the only thing i don't like is that it never says what happen to Doctor Gordon. did he escape or did Amanda kill him? if you know or you like Saw as much as i do write me an email at juggalotussmoker133@yahoo.com. im also on myspace.
  • goldsy
I am a big fan of this series and watched the fifth movie last week, It was easier to follow but they have got so many time lines in the story now, you dont know if your coming or going. I thought that Saw 5s ending was very weak, and I have just read that there may be a saw 7. I think this would be a mistake, just bring out six put hoffman through his test and produce the mother of all ending that this series deserves.
  • sAw Fr34K
Well I noticed that someone said that the films arent consistent, if you watched the fifth film and understood it, you would realize that as the films progress it is getting more detailed and complex, and as far as the whole killing the protagonist, I believe you are thinking of the word ANTAGONIST fyi... and they did kill the antagonist, but, they are making the investigator whose name escapes me into the new antagonist. btw pebbles, ROCK ON your right if you dont like the film, dont pay to see it, or blog hate its just stupid.
  • Sawed
First of all i want to say that I love the saw movies, however, i can still be critical of them!
I do agree that the stories are getting more complex but i also feel that sometimes Less IS More! ! !
Saw 5 really copped out with it's ending. For a movie series that puts alot of effort into script writing...... i feel that the ending was very weak , poor infact!!
Saw 6 needs to be the last and let it be Game Over!! I say this because i am a lover of the Movies and i don't want the Franchise to be overdone!!
Lets put all the Jigsaw pieces together in Saw6 and let the movies end with dignity!!

    * I also think that the movie would be very successful as a TV Series. Saw The Series. It sounds good and it would continue the lagacy!!

    * TV Series or Call it Quits after Saw 6! That's my opinion!!
  • Brian Adams
I can understand your thoughts towards the film series.

As for the TV series, it sound neat, but it would be way to difficult to pull off. That would mean a whole bunch of traps, and there still has to be a story. How would the current Saw formula fit into a TV series? one episode about traps, the next about the story? it wouldn't make any sense. Each episode would probably have to end with a "To Be Continued," which would basically be like making a feature-length film and spliting it up into several segments. That just wouldn't work. Nice idea, though, I wil give you credit for that. If you give it some thought and come up with a way for the TV series to work, send me your ideas. I'd like to hear them. badams1990@yahoo.com
  • Ok, I thought after Saw V they should stop, it tied up the last three and and VI is going to be overkill! I will have to admit, I will go and see it, but still, its overkill... Way too much overkill.
  • Lord Artemis
Actually, Saw V left some unanswered questions as well. For instance. Who is sending those notes to Detective Hoffman? What was in the box that Jill got from her husband? What happened to the winner of the 5 person traps in Saw V? What is to become of Hoffman? What is to become of this new guy that discovered the woman that survived the traps? What happened to the doctor from the first movie? ETC. The ending of the movie was slightly lame, but i think this is because the makers didnt want to take to much away from the ending of Saw VI. Which could possibly be the absolut ending. As is seen in all the movies. One move leads into another movie to explain all that has happened, but also, to lead you into the greater sceme of Jigsaws master plan. Noone walks away untested.
  • Will J
I really like the saw movies! It reminds me of firday the 13th n nightmare on elm street. It keeps coming back! Its 4 the mind! It has its twist! Its alot better then most horror flicks. I seen alot and hated alot no story lines and just plain dumb! And other horror flickes always try to put in comedy that is very dumb! Horror is horror!
Great job on the saw's. I have seen all 5 now and now waiting 4 the 6th!
By the way whats in the box from saw 5?
  • kctobyjoe
watch the DVD JIGSAW said in the event of his death(?) that all would be revealed so Id say there is info on Hoffman in the box. CRIPES! How many lawyers did He have?
  • Longhorns#2
The saw movies are good but very confusing... yes they will stop making htem but not until the hole story has been explained which is going to happen in the seventh part of this series. patience is a virtue...
  • longhorns#2
you find out in the sixth movie
  • Cassadee
I love the Saw movies! and I don't get why the hell people come on here and talk shit about it. If you don't like it, keep you're thoughts to yourself, don't piss off Saw fans! were vicous! :)
