Punisher: War Zone

A couple new photos from Lexi Alexander’s Punisher: War Zone have shown up online. The film stars Ray Stevenson as Frank Castle, aka The Punisher, who faces his most deadly foe yet: Jigsaw. I’ve also included the previously released photos below. As always, click to enlarge.

punisher vs Jigsaw? Interesting crossover. :P

Hello Frank, like to play a game?

Eh, this movie might be decent. I have hopes for it. But man do I wish Tom Jane was back as Frank Castle. Oh well, always can look forward to Mark Walhberg as Max Payne.

  3. Gravatar

    Jeez… Tom Jane was right.

  4. Gravatar

Fully agree with you both (jimbo & NC), Thomas Jane was great as the Punisher. I have hope that this delivers, but I’m not setting the bar too high.

  5. Gravatar

The pictures are showing that this movie a bit more stylish than the Thomas Jane movie. However, there’s something missing here - I’m sensing a low budget vibe here that makes it all look kinda cheesey whereas it should look gritty instead.

  6. Gravatar

Yes, something is missing here - lighting. I can’t see a damn thing in any of these pics.

  7. Gravatar

Am I the only one who thinks he looks like Steven Seagal in the bottom photo?

Never was a huge Punisher fan. I bought a few issues when I was in junior high, but never kept up with it.

  8. Gravatar

Too much colors. This is not Punisher.

in the 90’s, the punisher was an amazing comic, and it seems like this would be an easy story to adapt but we all know that was not the case. i loved jane in the role so i’m bummed he’s gone, havn’t seen much of this yet but i’m curious to see how far they went with jigsaw’s face. wish marvel would’ve taken the reigns on this & the fantastic 4, but oh well.

Punisher may always have that horrible stigma after the last awful movie….yet I know it’s my opinion but I thought the first Punisher movie with Dolph Lundgren was a decent action flick…plus it was an R rated film…so there is a chance this could be on the level of the first Blade movie if handled right….It all depends on how the final movie looks, if I’m correct Marvel had creative control on this one…

At least give this a chance the trailer isn’t out yet…Ray Stevenson who I thought made Rome a great television show…is a pretty good actor considering the genres he chooses..If you haven’t seen Outpost it’s worth a rental..

Dominic West is also a bonus in the casting I thought he was great in 300. Also he had his moments on The Wire…

Marvel really needs to start looking at their more darker characters and villains…I may be going out on a limb but if they do end up making a Venom spin-off movie which was announced a while back…that is one character that needs a hard R storyline…..it would be kind of weak to include a serial killing Carnage in a PG-13 movie…

Will all you wannabe fanboys get over the fact Thomas Jane doesn’t reprise his role as Frank Castle? He never did look the part to begin with. Admit it all of you only back him up because the “Geek Heads” (namely the folks at AICN) backed him in the role. Learn to form your own opinions for once.

That’s not to say Ray Stevenson will be excellent as the titular character but you gotta agree he sure looks alot like the character we know from the comics. I’ve also enjoyed his work on “Rome” so I have some hope in his performance.

Yeah the stills have a really poor quality about them. It really looks low budget which it is. Marvel/Lions Gate haven’t pumped a whole lot of money into this and it shows. Maybe the b-grade look could work for it though. Lets wait for a proper trailer.

There have been some behind the scenes rumblings on this which don’t bode well for its future. I wonder if Peter could use his journalistic prowess to find out more info on this instead of posting lame comments based on some stills.

  12. Gravatar

Look, alcaTsar, there’s no “Geek Heads” or fanboyism here. And AICN is a joke.

I was a fan of the comics many, many years back. Thomas Jane did an excellent job considering he had a very weak script to work with. I saw the Punisher late, since it had so many terrible reviews. I figured, yeah I bet it does suck.

It was surprisingly entertaining. Not an excellent film, but excellent entertainment.

You say this Ray Stevenson looks like the Punisher we all know? Maybe I’ve been out of the comics loop for awhile but he looks like a hand-me-down Steven Seagul (re: douchebag). And fuck Rome.

But hey, I’ll give it a chance. Can’t really tell just by looking at images, but this whole series is leaving a bad taste in my mouth.

  13. Gravatar

Also, in the first pic, this Ray douchebag looks like Dante Hicks from Clerks.

“I’m not even supposed to be here today!” *BAMBAMBAM!*

  14. Gravatar

Damnit! I knew that this didn’t look like AICN! Thanks for setting thinks straight for me alcaTsar. Maybe my headaches will go away from trying to form my own opinions now that I know where to go! (douche)

  15. Gravatar

These pictures are completely old, what’s wrong with you? Get with the times!

  16. Gravatar

    That poster looks horrible!

  17. Gravatar

Steven Segal is crazy in that last picture.

  18. Gravatar

another movie that should have never been re-made, this and the hulk should have stayed buried never to see the light of day again.

  19. Gravatar

@ Sixfeet: you totally beat me (and Captain Awesome) to the Steven Segal point. Damn. Ah well, seconded/thirded.

  20. Gravatar

@joolmax: Did you ever watch the first one or read the comics?

@alcaTsar: I totally agreed with you. Thomas was great but he never ever looked like the Punisher we know from the comics, hell not even his haircut was right. I have hopes for the new one. It takes place in NY doesn’t it?

  21. Gravatar

Ray Stevenson will be excellent, was a fan of the comics many, many years back. Can’t wait

  22. Gravatar

YOURE FUNNY. YES, SHITTY INDEED. I AM NOT IMPRESSED. VILLIAN BETTER REAL, REAL NASTY. I MEAN, THE RUSSIAN WAS BADASS. DIFFICULT TO TOP, AND TO HAVE THE Moxy to release pics like these, to say, select from a thousand pics these specific images, these ones, these are the ones that stand out, lets wow them with these! That villian better be real, real, evil or we are all fuc**d.

  23. Gravatar

    GAJONKA,

I hope you get hit by a bus.

  24. Gravatar

From these pictures, the movie looks bad. God damnit! Thomas Jane sucked and now we got this clown. Why are they messing the Punisher? He is my favorite comic character and Hollywood has done such a shitty job representing him. It’s all about the casting and this guy doesn’t look right. I am still hoping it will be decent…

  25. Gravatar

GAJONKA, your keyboard is broken. DB!

War Zone was by far my favorite of the Punisher comics. But, I don’t think this is following the War Zone comics really. Just bogarting the name. It does look low budget, and that is a bit frightening. I’ve always wanted a bad ass Punisher movie, and the last one wasn’t too shabby.

  26. Gravatar

    cmon hit me!!!!!!

  27. Gravatar

That man is no Tom Jane. Pity.

  28. Gravatar

Not to say TJ was great, but I never thought this guy would make a good Pun. And from what I’m seeing I’d prefer Jane instead.

  29. Gravatar

Jeeze, there’s a lot of whining on this site. If you want to really know what’s going on with this film, go to the IMDB message board for Punisher: War Zone and read the thread “Punisher War Zone FAQs for Newcomers” written by Norse Sage.

Marvel is finally going to get this character right. And Ray Stevenson is a serious actor committed to realising Frank Castle/The Punisher.

    It’s going to be hot!

And the pics this site is calling “new” are all months old.

“punisher vs Jigsaw? Interesting crossover. :P”

How the hell is that an “interesting crossover”?

Anyway, I’m very surprised by the lack of faith from some of you lot. I enjoyed the last movie and thought Jane did a damn good job. I would have been fine with a sequel. But I also understand the need for a change, the film just plain did not live up to expectations.

I’m happy someone like Stevenson was chosen for the reboot. Jane was very much like Frank from the 90’s, back during a time when Frank was portrayed as a younger and more handsome character. But Stevenson looks near exact to the modern MAX Punisher, almost mirror imaging Bradstreet’s covers. He’s big, he’s gruff, and he looks like he could twist your arm off. Most everything I’ve heard and read about this film looks great. I personally can’t wait.

On another forum, where the regs have accepted Stevenson and think he’s going to do a bang up job, someone posted a link to this forum. I’d like a quote another member of that forum and say that the “dick swinging” you guys are taking part in is absolutely ludicrous. Jane is no longer the Punisher, and no matter how much you all whine (I did my fair share in the beginning), he’s not coming back.

So anyway folks… sit back, get treated for metathesiophobia, and perk the fuck up.

I think Marvel is going for the look that Tim Bradsteet (cover artist that uses real people as models for reference) has given the character. Cause he looks exactly like those covers.
Kinda like the Sam Jack Nick Fury, I think Marvel is trying to inject realism into the comics that pays off by being able to portray the live action versions very closely to their Comic page inspirations?
Eh but what do I know? They aren’t really showing anything here…

I’ll hold off judgment till we see Jigsaw.

  33. Gravatar

so the pics are not as new as you thought, cry me a fucking river. Anyways, i rather liked the first punisher, it had a good payoff, it was fun, and had some good twists to keep you going. I hope this one is at least as good. Its always just a bit awkward when the actors change, but it shouldnt kill the movie by any means. i never read the comics, so my opinion is that of an outsider

  34. Gravatar

Well daddy, first off, a bit adolescent of you to be swearing like that, what would your mother think

    second

“the first punisher film” was not the TJ punisher film you want to go rub one out to, do some research before you come onto a board

  35. Gravatar

    @ andyswmr

I assumed we were all talking about the same thing. let me reword this for your comprehension level.

“Anyways, i rather liked the first punisher movie that is relevant to this article, since this article is about the sequel to that particular version, which had thomas jane in it…..”
    nitpicking motherfucker….

    @ andyswmr

i responded to your comment, but it seems it didnt take, or my browswer messed up, anyways, here goes again just in case:

I thought we were all talking about the same thing, and I apologize for those of you that were confused or bewildered by my highly complex and assumptive comment. I will reword my comment above for your comprehension level, and for the benefit of the rest of the readers.

“Anyways, i rather liked the first punisher movie that is relevant to this article, since this article is concerning the sequel to that ‘first’ version, starring thomas jane, whom will not be returning for the sequel.”

I hope that clears things up for you. Thank you for your concern for my mother, and excuse me while ‘I rub one out’ on yours.

  37. Gravatar

i hope both comments dont show up, as i like the second version much better
