For a while there, I had hope for Stephen Sommers’ live-action G.I. Joe movie. I was left disappointed by official cast photos released earlier this month, and now these new set photos from JustJared have me in total disbelief…. Check out Channing Tatum as Duke in his lame looking Accelerator Suit, and Ray Park as Snake Eyes, who looks like he was dipped in a pool of black paint and latex.

Ray park is flexible and all but he really doesn’t have a defined muscle body with abs. So they have put fake ones on him and on top of that they put the other costume.
They do this with a lot of movies.

Hmmm…those costumes don’t seem to thrilling. However, on behalf of the production thus far, I’d remind you all that we can’t forget CG and post-production, which could make those cheesy costumes come to life (and shrink the gut a bit).
3 keys to partial success for GI Joe.
#1…it has to be PG. Adults aren’t going to go see it without bringing the kids. This basically means that nobody dies…just like the cartoon show.
#2…it needs to focus on the teamwork/action/WWII heroic/good guy side of Joe and needs to be action-packed, fun and to the point. I’d guess the demographic for this film would be 6-16 year olds as I’m sure Hasbro (or whomever makes the toys) has a ton of money invested to bring back the GI Joe toy-craze of the 80’s to the stores. Besides, adults get Tropic Thunder…case closed.
#3…its gotta have tons of cool, old-school war machines (with 007 coolness). and non-stop explosions. Snake Eyes HAS to be awesome too. He was the favorite of many a Joe fan when I was a kid in the 80’s.

I’ll tell you why this is ridiculous to me. If you showed a picture of Christian Bale with only 3/4 of the batsuit on, in plain light, surrounded by makeup people, it wouldn’t be posted on this site with the headline saying “Reason TDK Might Suck.” But since there’s a bias against GI Joe they use these incomplete pictures to judge the whole production.

I really want to movie to be cool, but nothing I’ve seen gives me any hope. The casting was horrible. The plot is weak at best. There is no connection between any of costumes and the iconic look of the original characters. i.e. None of the photos I’ve seen of Channing Tatum indicate to me that he’s playing Duke. The costumes themselves look way too cartoonish. At this point nothing short of a miracle will salvage this movie.

It looks like X-MEN part 4 with Bat Man in SWAT story to me! At this point, there is no GI JOE spirit I could feel on this movie.
