Behind the Scenes Footage from Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

Earlier today we posted a featurette which showed a couple clips of Steven Spielberg directing on the set of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Someone commented “I would LOVE to have a good hour video of just raw footage of a set behind the scenes”. And while I’m sure Lucas will never release such a documentary, I’ve always been quite fond of behind-the-scene on-the-wall documentaries. I it’s because I come from a film background, and always enjoy watching the masters at work on the set. But I think that some of you will also appreciate this footage, even if it’s not intended for mainstream audiences.

As a member of the working press I get sent Electronic Press Kits for upcoming film releases (EPK for short). They usually include a bunch of sit down interviews with the cast and crew, the stuff you expect to eventually end up on the special edition DVD. But this is that footage before it’s all edited together. I always find myself drawn to the B-roll footage which is included on these releases. Basically the B-Roll is intended for video news outlets to intercut with a news story or movie review, along with the interviews and trailer footage. B-Roll is basically little snippets of behind the scenes footage from the set. It’s fascinating, at least to me.

Anyway, I’ve decide to include 14+ minutes of B-Roll footage from Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull for your viewing pleasure. But please be forewarned that they recorded footage from every single day of filming. So some of what you are about to watch might include plot or character spoilers. Continue at your own risk.

    NOTHING SHORT OF AWESOME!!!!
Thanks Peter for posting this! I’m a huge fan of the raw on-the-set footage. No narraration, no interviews, just footage of Ford, Lucas, Spielberg and crew setting up shots.

Its too bad Spielberg doesn’t do commentaries. I’d double dip on his filmography. Spielberg’s commentary alone makes his dvds worth more than
    shelf space.

I know this is blasphemy on a geek movie site…but I’m really not going to see this. The original trilogy is what I’m sticking to. I don’t like anything of what I’ve seen.

I always like to get a better perspective on how they light the various sets. It really is an art.

The clips don’t give away a whole lot, but I still wish I didn’t watch. Couldn’t help myself. ty

    Nooooo! It’s been taken down!

Has anyone snuck a copy of this onto youtube etc anywhere?

Peter, are they likely to let you put it back up after the film’s release? Hot damn… it’s the behind-the-scenes stuff that gets me off my ass to go and buy DVDs - I never feel the need to own a copy of a film, but I’d pay to see how they put it together…

CRAP! I missed it. Why did Paramount make you take that off?! That’s what we want to see!

Seems that io9.com has mirrored it (and as they’re from the same blog stable as gizmodo I suspect they’ll ignore requests to take it down)…

Really strange to see so much behind-the-scenes stuff in one go without ad breaks and interviews interrupting it. Cool.

Hey I said that quote ;D I missed the footage on here but am watching it somewhere else…..LOVING IT.

Just finished watching the footage…wonderful. Some people may think this is boring but it was so cool to see Spielberg preview a shot, then shoot it with the cameras. Thank you for posting up the video!
