The circle jerking was an educated guess. I mean what other logical explanation could there be for an idea like Speed 2, Donnie Darko 2, or Point Break 2, except heavy drugs and public masturbation.

It would be awesome but unlikely to see Keanu or Swayze in it.

De Bont also directed Twister, so he has some (albeit faint) pedigree. Here’s hoping that his involvement is enough to trick Reeves into reprising the role of Johnny Utah, though I can’t imagine he would, especially given Reeves’ spurning of Speed 2.

I have to say that I literally still cannot believe that a Point Break sequel is being made and it all sounds so ludicrous, but I am relatively impressed by the fact that it’s going to have the original writer and a legitimate director. Sure, De Bont’s not making blockbuster’s these days, but he has proven (despite Speed 2) to be pretty competent and adept. It certainly would make more sense if Reeves and Swayze were back though (as implausible as that might be for the characters, or even for the actors, professionally speaking), otherwise it is just another movie about surfers and bank robbers to tie it to the original. And then it’s just a silly sequel exploiting good faith and simply having a familiar premise, like American Psycho 2 or Meatballs 3, which really aren’t “sequels” by anyone’s standard.
