The new movie trailer for The X-Files: I Want to Believe is now online. What are you waiting for, watch it below and tell me what you think in the comments!

I know I’m probably going to get bashed for this but… I’m still wondering what this film will bring us beyond an extended reunion episode. Sure, we get a big sweeping helicopter shot with tons of extras, but beyond that, what will make this story worth telling on the big screen? They’re still keeping many of the details tightly under wraps. And I understand the appeal of this franchise holds on mystery. So may be they are holding back on the cinematics. I want to believe (pun intended) that this movie will offer more exciting things than people running around because there is something hidden below the ice.
Discuss: What did you think of the X-Files 2 movie trailer?

May 12th, 2008 at 12:44 am
I agree, I’m looking for a little something more. Yes, its great to check in with these characters, but I’m seriously starting to wonder if this story is really worth telling as well.
May 12th, 2008 at 12:47 am
I’m glad someone had the guts to say it, because I’ve been thinking this the whole time. I’m excited to see this movie, but I’m still not impressed by any of the footage they’ve shown so far.
May 12th, 2008 at 12:48 am
Is it just me or does the old theme song sound really low budget nowadays?
May 12th, 2008 at 1:03 am
Finally - the real trailer! I like it because it’s vague yet intriguing; I avoid spoilers and early reviews, and hate when trailers give away the farm. And as someone who watched every episode of the series, I will be there opening night for this second installment on the big screen. There will be detractors who have never believed in the franchise, but given the current cinematic landscape, it should gain a fair number of new fans as well.
May 12th, 2008 at 1:04 am
I personally like the trailer. As for wondering about the story, and hoping it’s this big full scale thing, they already stated that it’s not in the continuity, they told us that it’s basically a long episode. I’m just happy to see more Mulder and Scully in my life.
May 12th, 2008 at 1:06 am
Mulder looks old. Scully looks hot. Think it’s too late for a second XF-movie
May 12th, 2008 at 1:07 am
The DVD boxes of the X Files’s nine seasons are sitting on the shelf right next to me, I love seasons 1 to 4 (as well as 5 and 6 but from there it’s all down-hill) and liked “Fight the Future” quite a bit. I have to say, this trailer does nothing for me. Unless trailer #2 gives us footage that doesn’t look like an episode of a TV show in cinemascope and some kind of hint at an interesting story, even I won’t bother showing up to see this on the big screen. I’m afraid this film is going to bomb big time.
May 12th, 2008 at 1:08 am
I’m hoping the trailer is the only uninteresting thing about X-Files 2
May 12th, 2008 at 1:18 am
it`s very good trailer :)
May 12th, 2008 at 1:47 am
Meh. Too little, too late.
May 12th, 2008 at 1:50 am
Well it has Billy Connely in, so It gets my watch !
May 12th, 2008 at 1:59 am
even if it is an extended episode, why the F complain about it?! would we rather another remake or reboot?! how about just enjoy another run with some old friends? if the movies shit, then let’s complain about that, but the pre-emptive complaints that it might just be an extended episode is just nit-picking. i know nobody will admit i have a point, but i’m just happy that they truly love their fanbase - and working together (sf wondercon was proof of both) - and wanted to reconnect and revisit. plus if this does well, it could open the door for a ‘2012′ episode, and a kick ass way to close everything out. which i think could be the master plan.
the trailer kicks ass, and i cannot wait to see mulder & scully back together onscreen. this is an exceptionally kick ass summer.
May 12th, 2008 at 2:07 am
If you watch closely near th esecond half of the trailer, you see ALEX KRYCHECK running towards the helicopter. That said, this may in fact have some connection to the alien mythology.
May 12th, 2008 at 2:19 am
Skinner’s right, the whole “non connecting” thing may have just been a ploy, like what Michael Bay is supposedly doing with Transformers 2. Holding back all the real information before people start to come up with these grandiose expectations and ideas about it, which will only lead to them being let down because they get so die-hard in their theories and ideas it kills them when they’re wrong in the end.
May 12th, 2008 at 2:35 am
Spoiler alert…
You guys know it has to do with Werewolves right? Did not one of you see the leaked shot of the the director with the werewolf animatronic werewolf upper half?
May 12th, 2008 at 2:36 am
I believe the story centers around them uncovering the Ark of the Covenant, thereby officially swapping genres with Indiana Jones.
May 12th, 2008 at 2:37 am
Nevermind, feel like an idiot. That was fake…lol =[
Meh, too late anyways for a X-Files film.

Most episodes of The X-Files are better than a whole lot of films. I trust that knowledge. This movie already has great characters. Plug them in and I’ll be happy just to see what happens.
May 12th, 2008 at 2:40 am
Looks like Moulder has been partying a little too hard on “Californication” during his time away from the X-Files…at least compared to Scully.
But I digress…I liked the trailer. It gave one the feel of what might happen without actually giving anything away. In other words-it got me curious. I’ll be checking to see what else they put out before it comes out.
May 12th, 2008 at 2:42 am
@ earl
lol, it’s all a big conspiracy. I’m actually expecting Moulder and Scully to do a cameo at the end of the new Indy.
May 12th, 2008 at 2:51 am
This is a good teaser trailer, although it’s not much different from what the bootlegs have shown. But I guess that was to be expected since we weren’t supposed to have seen those. Heheh
Anyhow, I think once we see the movie and actually have the plot unfold before our eyes that it will hold its ground and maybe even do better than the last movie (which I personally loved as a fan but I can understand how it could go over the heads of non-fans) since its a stand-alone story and not a mythology one.
May 12th, 2008 at 3:01 am
Billy Connolly?
Really?
May 12th, 2008 at 3:03 am
You say extended reunion episode as if it’s a bad thing.
May 12th, 2008 at 4:20 am
I think this looks incredible, you’re all insane.I think everyone has become inured to actual storytelling because we’ve become so used to being bombarded with imagery that we can’t let our imaginations wander.I love this!!!!It’s atmospheric and creepy and it makes me wonder about a thousand and one things that might be happening. It’s always time to tell an X-Files story!!I really hope it’s like an extended episode! The X-Files episodes were mini-movies anyway and had cinematic scope inherent in their production!
Anyway.I can’t wait.I’d watch the 2 of them sit in a room full of slowly drying paint than watch any of the crap that’s being thrown on the screen this summer.THIS is where my money is going….!
May 12th, 2008 at 4:24 am
I don’t think it’s too late for this movie. I think it was Chris Carter who said that this with this movie they want to do what the series were planned to do: to scare people. I really hope that it’s up to the expectations, because it deserves it. Since I don’t think there will be any more X-files, I really hope they go out with the bang (in a positive way).
May 12th, 2008 at 4:28 am
Er, is it just me, or does Billy Connelly look like Brent Spiner in Independence Day?
Eerie…
May 12th, 2008 at 5:02 am
Looks boring …
wait …
that looks like a Cylon in the trailer. Hrmmm, maybe I will have to watch this movie. X-files sounded boring, but now that it has Cylons!
May 12th, 2008 at 5:41 am
@ orange cinema
I totally agree. Who cares if it’s an “extended episode”? It’s more X-Files. I’ll only be disappointed if it doesn’t have the original feeling of the show. And does anyone know where I can get this in Quicktime HD? I really want to see if that is KRYCHECK!
May 12th, 2008 at 6:05 am
Too little, too late. I think this movie would play better as a “Television Event” then a feature film.
May 12th, 2008 at 6:41 am
@ Christopher Hoult
Couldn’t agree more. I knew there was a peculiar familiarity in his look but I just couldn’t place it.
I’m just happy to have more X-Files
May 12th, 2008 at 6:54 am
@Lloyd
IT KRYCEK! DAMN IT! KRYCEK!
May 12th, 2008 at 7:58 am
The creators have said it that this will be just like any other episode except extended version. On top of that the budget is really only 25-30 million so you cannot expect a huge movie.
fuck TDK.
May 12th, 2008 at 8:30 am
Hmm, I was never really a huge fan of the X-Files. But I do think, from the looks of the trailer, that this might be a good movie.
Also, why are you guys freaking out over this Krycheck character??
May 12th, 2008 at 8:52 am
Personally I’m of the opinion this movie is going to be good… due to the fact it was greenlit and there is no reason to bring the x-files back to the big screen without a decent storyline. It’s not like they’re rebooting the franchise so there has to be something really good about it.
May 12th, 2008 at 9:16 am
im guessing this film has to do something with VAMPIRES and WEREWOLVES… aye, who knows?
May 12th, 2008 at 9:40 am
Why is Xzibit in this? Why did they go out of the way to show him in the trailer? Unforgivable
May 12th, 2008 at 9:54 am
@ Krycek7o2
lol, didn’t have my first cup of coffee yet.
May 12th, 2008 at 10:00 am
@ Brian
The werewolf only goes on a rampage because he wants speakers and a new air freshener for his 1978 Chevy Yugo. Oh and some with bitchin’ TV screens in the fenders. That’s why Xzibit is there…to save the world.
May 12th, 2008 at 10:31 am
I figure they’re banking on the cult following for now. More will be revealed on the next trailer.
May 12th, 2008 at 10:45 am
ok, cheap title sequences. but that theme song shivers me.For the sake of the 90’s nostalgia, I might give a try when it hit the theaters, but for the sake of it.
May 12th, 2008 at 10:48 am
This looks awesome. Just like tuning in for a fresh, new episode was back in the day. You had no idea what the story was going to be about, but you knew it was going to deliver.
The scene with Mulder asking Scully (who looks to be practicing medicine these days) to rejoin with him was a geek goosebumps worthy moment.
May 12th, 2008 at 11:01 am
I was a rabid X-Files junkie until David left the show….I always avoided the first movie and I finally watched it a few months back…It seemed like a super extended episode nothing was over the top, special or exciting about the movie…it seemed really too familiar to what’s been done already with the series….from what I see in the trailer nothing has changed..I would have thought they would have changed things up and give another director a chance to show his vision…but Chris Carter who really hasn’t had any directing credits besides the television show is heading up his first movie….
I have a feeling this movie is only going to attract the hardcore fans looking to see another season and not a solid movie…I wouldn’t be surprised if the reviews are horrible…
May 12th, 2008 at 11:24 am
Looks pretty interesting! I think the first 5-10 seconds of the theme song, just before the melody kicks in, would have had a better impact.
I’ll definitely go see it in July!
May 12th, 2008 at 12:44 pm
This seems to be going along the road that the Star Trek: TNG movies went down. They may not have made a ton of money, but the fans of the show still went and saw them, and if you knew a little back story the movies themselves weren’t all that bad.
Lower budget, for the fans. I’ve got nothing against this. Now I’ve got to rewatch some X-Files to remember what the heck was going on at the end of the show. I kinda lost interest once the T-1000 showed up to replace Mulder.
Billy Connelly looks like Ringo’s Dad…Anyone? Anyone?
May 12th, 2008 at 2:33 pm
I used to love the x-files and dont get me wrong i still watch the occasional one or two when they air late at night but im sorry the trailer just stinks of TV movie. Christ i really hope the movie doesn’t play like one, ive had high hopes for another x-files movie i just hope it feels like the series used to.
And yes Billy Connelly does look like Ringo`s Dad :)
May 12th, 2008 at 6:05 pm
I find it refreshing that a trailer is put out that doesn’t give away the entire plot.
Also if the film is nothing more than a longer episode then I will still be thrilled. If they can make and market these for under $50 million and make $100 worldwide and sell a crap load of DVDs, then we should get a new one every few years. If Fox and Carter are smart, that is exactly what they should be aiming for.
May 13th, 2008 at 12:18 am
It came off kind of mellow for X-Files. And where’s the classic X-Files music? It didn’t impress me at all, but being a huge fan of the show I still can’t wait to see this film.
May 13th, 2008 at 6:40 am
Man, i’m pumped to see this. Who cares if the internet Trolls bash it - i enjoyed the show while growing up (i was 11 or 12 when it debuted, was a huge influence for me in sci-fi tv shows) and i’ll enjoy the movie when it comes out. I’m not expecting it to tie up every loose end from the show, or to give any huge insight on anything in particular, i’m just looking for a good cast (which they have) to do a good job acting (which these guys always do) and it will turn out to be a good movie on its own.
These are characters you can believe. They’re people who (did) see extraordinary things on a regular basis. One wants to believe there’s a common thread, the other wants to debunk it and prove it in science. It’s not an incredibly big shoe to slip back into and i’m sure that within a few days on set the actors were right back into their roles and comfortable with them to the point that we’ll believe (pun intended) their performance.
What more can you really ask for in a movie aside from a good story (even on its own and not used to tie off loose ends as they have already said this will be), and good actors performing their parts well.
Bash me all you want, say i’m dreaming, that the movie will suck, that you won’t be there at all or you’ll wait for dvd, just know that nothing you say will sway my opinion, so you might as well direct your negative comments to the brick wall on my left. Thank you and have a good day Trolls. (Remember, XF3: The Troll Hunt opens July 26 on a monitor near you).
May 23rd, 2008 at 11:51 am
I’m just very happy to see Mulder and Scully again and for Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz to be telling good stories again. TV has been a vast wasteland of bad story-telling and bad X Files rip offs, and they’re still coming. Just give me the original, and I thank you. If they want to play tricks on me while I’m trying to get more info, fine, I’m willing to play. It was fun a few years ago and it’s fun now. And I think the 5,000 other players at wondercon in San Francisco think the same way too. I can’t wait.
June 3rd, 2008 at 9:10 pm
i miss my main man and his girl sooooo much…..been waiting so long….will accept anything above a 5 and this looks like at least a 7 or highier……can’t wait
June 15th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
some of you sound like you have never been fans of show and think the film already is lame….get a grip and go watch some dorky reality show for losers instead
