Our friends at LatinoReview are reporting that Marvel wants Brad Pitt for the upcoming big screen adaptation of Thor. Let’s face it, isn’t Brad Pitt on every project’s preliminary casting lists for dream stars? Of course, no offer has been made to the star, and when one is, I doubt he would actually be interested (but you never know with these Iron Man $$$ numbers). Would Pitt make a good Thor? You certainly need someone with acting skills to pull off this role. The old school approach of casting a muscular model-like actor like Arnold could only result in an extremely cheesy film.
Discuss: Who would you cast as Thor? Is Brad Pitt on your short list?

I don’t think he’s big enough… he only weighs 180 pounds doesn’t he?
May 12th, 2008 at 12:52 pm
Only an Unknown and preferably of Scandinavian descent. I really can’t see Pitt as any superhero let alone a Norse God.
May 12th, 2008 at 12:55 pm
Kevin McKidd was rumoured for it a while back, wasn’t he? I thought he was a great pick. Besides - it would rock to have both Pullo and Vorenus playing Marvel characters.
May 12th, 2008 at 12:57 pm
I already saw Troy.
Not that he wouldn’t be able to do it; I just don’t think it would give the film the right feel.
Perhaps someone like Jason Statham? No? Hell, I don’t know.
May 12th, 2008 at 1:00 pm
How about Bridgette Nielsen?
May 12th, 2008 at 1:08 pm
Using Brad Pitt for a role like this would be bad. He would bring in the numbers but totally send the wrong message or imply the wrong type of character. Brad Pitt is just about money and over the top box office movies.
They need to get another actor who is known, but not HUGE or rather been in enough big money makers to sink a ship for this role. I think a better no-name actor for this role would be:
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau
He’s the lead in the show Fox premiered this year “New Amsterdam”. I doubt they’ll do another season so hes got an open schedule. With a little toning he would be perfect for the role of Thor.
May 12th, 2008 at 1:08 pm
I could actually see this happening.
May 12th, 2008 at 1:10 pm
I’m just glad I’m not the one that has to cast this role! Talk about a thankless job. My opinion hasn’t changed, go for a great actor that no one has seen much of. Has anyone thought about slightly digitally making someone just a tiny bit bigger? No CGI or fake make-up, but just take the actor and make him like 120% bigger in every scene? Might work for Thor.
May 12th, 2008 at 1:11 pm
lol @ sean p’s post
May 12th, 2008 at 1:14 pm
Peter,
You couldn’t have picked a more homo-erotic image of Thor.
haha
May 12th, 2008 at 1:28 pm
How about Steven Segal? Or Lorezo Lamas
May 12th, 2008 at 1:29 pm
@Captain Awesome
What? He’s just wielding his mighty hammer…
May 12th, 2008 at 1:31 pm
He would make a better Cap. This is good news, they now just have to fix the McConoghey thing. That’s like the Ben Affleck as Daredevil. Hire QUALITY actors, not idiots like M.M.
May 12th, 2008 at 1:38 pm
Bridgette Nielsen? He’s certianly tall enough, but that guy is getting a little old. I think Tyler Mane would make a fairly imposing Thor.
May 12th, 2008 at 1:47 pm
I’m actually not against this decision. Pitt is a versatile and extremely talented actor and while Troy was not that great of a movie I don’t think it can be a weighting point for his talent.
May 12th, 2008 at 1:48 pm
He’s got the look, but he’d look ridiculous in that outfit. They’ll need a total cotsume re think for this. I don’t envy them on who ever has that task.
Strangely I can kind of see him doing this. Troy’s probably clouding my judgment though :)
If there is an Avengers film, then he’d not be overshadowed if Sam L Jackson and Downey Jr were on board. A new guy in that film would be overshadowed by those big names.
May 12th, 2008 at 1:51 pm
I can actually see Pitt taking on the role, but I agree that it would send the wrong message. Plus, they need to find someone that can have good chemistry with the rest of the cast for when Avengers hits the screen.
Plus I also heard that the people that is adapting He-Man wants Brad Pitt too. It’s practically the same character.
May 12th, 2008 at 2:04 pm
i totally agree with this guy …. we have downey ,jackson and norton ..so the cap and thor need to be played by big names ..Brad pitt as thor would be cool
May 12th, 2008 at 2:05 pm
The answer is obvious.
Fabio
Sounds about right. hahaha
May 12th, 2008 at 2:05 pm
This is a horrible idea. Pitt as Thor is … horrible.
While not huge in size (and probably too old), but the guy who played Buliwyf in the 13th warrior is more of what I see Thor being. The dude has to be fairly big, which Pitt is not.
What about WWE’s HHH? I imagine the acting would be awful though … then again, how good an actor do you need to be to play a Norse God?
May 12th, 2008 at 2:06 pm
If Nathan Jones (the guy Pitt stabs in the neck at the start of Troy) could act he would be a hellacious Thor. He is a beast in Tom Yum Goong and makes a decent showing in Jet Li’s Fearless and The Condemned.
May 12th, 2008 at 2:31 pm
Brad would be an awesome Ultimate Thor.
May 12th, 2008 at 2:37 pm
Brad Pitt next to Downeys Stark and Nortons Banner would be a rather cool sight.
Cap is the tough part… I honestly think it would be best if Cap were younger than the rest. Plus it would make the most logiocal choice.
Hey! Fight Club reunion! Norton and Pitt.
May 12th, 2008 at 2:39 pm
Paul Walker as Cap!
May 12th, 2008 at 2:47 pm
Nathan Jones would be tight hes the biggest mofo around in movie buisness and reletivly unknown with hair at least
May 12th, 2008 at 2:54 pm
I think Pitt is a fantastic choice. Why does Thor have to be younger? Pitt is a good actor, he blends in nicely in ensemble films (Ocean’s), and he can be over the top when he needs to be.
I think he’d be a great choice, and an Avenger’s movie is going to set Box Office records.
May 12th, 2008 at 2:57 pm
I would love it… he could easily bulk up like he did for Troy… and i think what Robert did with Iron Man and kind of press he is getting would only make it more enticing for Brad - though I doubt he would do it. The costume (and a story that will work) are the big things when really sitting down and saying if he is in this movie or not.
@ The E:
What are you talking about by saying “Brad Pitt is just about money and over the top box office movies.” Are you telling me that Babel, Jesse James, Burn After Reading, Benjamin Button, Tree of Life, and Chad Schmidt (which he said he wanted to do, but do not know the current status) are money movies? I guess you can say that about the Ocean’s and Mr. & Mrs. Smith movies, but he did all the Ocean’s becuase is friends with the crew and esp Clooney. If anything could be said by his current career choice, he is in for quality Oscar-worthy films, becuase he wants a statue.
May 12th, 2008 at 3:00 pm
I vote for Paul Teutul Sr. from American Chopper fame!
May 12th, 2008 at 3:19 pm
i’m thinking Gerard Butler
May 12th, 2008 at 3:23 pm
@ Kote
Nathan Jones is definitely huge and has the low profile to have people saying “who in the hell?” which I think helps with new/revitalized properties by pulling people in to the world, but I don’t know how his actual acting is.
May 12th, 2008 at 4:11 pm
Ugh, I don’t like it. While I enjoy Pitt in the occasional
action flick I don’t see him as Thor. I didn’t like
him in Troy very much, he may look the part, but I didn’t
believe in his performance. I know I’m in the minority, but
I have never been much of a fan.
May 12th, 2008 at 4:13 pm
this movie shouldnt be made PERIOD.
May 12th, 2008 at 4:27 pm
I can see it happening. When he has a full beard he looks like a good Thor as well. And an Avengers film with top notch actors could be the Ocean’s Eleven of this type of films.
May 12th, 2008 at 4:33 pm
the person who fits as thor is the wrestler triple h, i know he is not a top quality actor, but size and look wise he is dead on.
May 12th, 2008 at 4:45 pm
NOOO WAAY!
tbh i like brad pitt he was amaze in fight club, but simple he wud not be right for this character at all!
thor movie is parently gnna be very asgardy and gnna be very new and fresh to the marvel movie scene, we need a youngish and relativuly unheard of actor who is big but not arnie or HHH big lol…btw i read like a few months ago hhh wnted to play him and marvel like lughed at the thought…
and the dude that sed paul walker as cap, wen i read tht i was intrigued as he cud be gd but cos of many of his roles hes played, cheesy charaters basically could flaw the film.
BTW…tyrese as luke cage make the damn film, cud be soo easiliy dne i cud make a gd luke cage film, nd i put danny rand(iron fist) in for a cameo, LOL
May 12th, 2008 at 5:06 pm
“You certainly need someone with acting skills to pull off this role. The old school approach of casting a muscular model-like actor like Arnold could only result in an extremely cheesy film.”
So.. damn.. true.
I totally see them hiring a fuckin brainless wrestler =(
May 12th, 2008 at 5:08 pm
JOUKO AHOLA
This guy is perfect. You won’t do any better than a former World’s Strongest Man from Finland who has sharpened his chops in Kingdom of Heaven and Werner Herzog’s Invincible. He also has an effing sweet accent.
May 12th, 2008 at 5:09 pm
SAY NO
TO FUCKIN
WRESTLERS
May 12th, 2008 at 5:41 pm
whats Dolph Lundrenth been up to ……………….he was agreat He Man ………………..hehe
May 12th, 2008 at 6:44 pm
Jacko from the old Energizer commercials would be a perfect Thor
May 12th, 2008 at 6:55 pm
The best Thor would be played by Josh Holloway, aka “Sawyer” from Lost. He has the size and definitely looks the part.
May 12th, 2008 at 7:03 pm
Daniel Craig. I’m sure he won’t do it, but he would be a logical choice.
May 12th, 2008 at 8:03 pm
Bard Pitt sure dose look the part I mean we are talking Norse God vs. Achellies (half god). I am sure there are actors who can act better than Pitt. Don’t get me wrong Pitt can act but I think he’s too much of a poster boy for Thor. Even though I would like to Pitt and Norton back together again.
Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark aka Iron Man
Edward Norton as Bruce Banner aka Hulk
Other Avengers:
Three things that need to be fulfilled: Do they look the part, can they act awesomely, can work with other amazing actors
Actor I see as good candidates for Avengers:
Matthew McConaughey looks the part for Captain America but can he act the part.
Ben Foster but he already is Angel so he is out. I would like to see him reprise that role.
Guy Pearce as Captain America
Kevin Sorbo as Thor
Ryan Phillipe as Captain America
But another question is who to fill the shoes of
Ant-Man
Wasp
Black Panther
Black Widow
May 12th, 2008 at 9:51 pm
Vin Diesel but he needs long wavy hair.
May 12th, 2008 at 10:39 pm
@ the E
“Brad Pitt is just about money and over the top box office movies”
uhh, i’m thinking you should imdb brad pitt. maybe do some research on the guy.
anyways, pitt’s a good choice, like everyone here, i’d like to see that likeup of rdj, norton, pitt, and whoever else they choose. but ultimately i think i’d only like to see pitt in this role if the thor movie truly gets the period/LOTR treatment that has been mentioned. i know they could never get GDToro to do this, but someone in that vein would be perfect for this film.
May 12th, 2008 at 11:19 pm
They are definitely going to get a meathead wrestler. No doubt, Pitt is going to look at the script and throw it out. To those clowns who think HHH looks the part, you are exactly right! You’re going to get badly acted, chessy movie. HHH had that little part in Blade: Trinity (I saw part of the movie TNT) and that’s all I needed to see. Pitt should go for Captain America.

“Triple H is said to be in the running for the lead role in Marvel’s upcoming movie Thor, which is scheduled to be released in late spring 2010. The other lead candidate for the role is Kevin McKidd of HBO’s Rome series.”
OH FUCK NO…
May 13th, 2008 at 12:41 am
Ahm.. my comment went to moderation
But from wrestlemania.com:
“Triple H is said to be in the running for the lead role in Marvel’s upcoming movie Thor, which is scheduled to be released in late spring 2010. The other lead candidate for the role is Kevin McKidd of HBO’s Rome series.”
sighs
May 13th, 2008 at 6:04 am
The person who plays Thor is going to have to play Donald Blake as well - unless they totally screw up the character. Pitt could do it.
May 13th, 2008 at 7:31 am
Pitt would actually make a good Donald Blake (remember, he’s two people), but not Thor. As someone suggested earlier on this page, use someone with the build and accent that can truly put it together. If you take for example, the guy how played Buliwyf in the 13th Warrior (Vladimir Kulich) if you run by IMDB and see his features, that is the Thor I see in my mind. If they decide to find an actor to portray him stateside, the only person that comes to mind is John Ceina…I know, it’s a long stretch, but I believe he did a good job despite bad writing on the Marine.
May 13th, 2008 at 8:11 am
Eric Dane for Thor! He was Multiple Man in X-Men 3 but he’s bearded, buff and blonder on Grey’s Anatomy. He’s got charisma and he’s got the chops. I think he’d make a great Thor.
May 13th, 2008 at 10:47 am
Is William Hung available? Y’know, the guy who sang “She Bangs†on American Idol?
May 13th, 2008 at 6:43 pm
Brad Pitt? im thinkin Hunter Hearst Helmsley
May 13th, 2008 at 10:46 pm
A “professional wrestler†would be a bad idea, even thought they are actors and some have performed quit well on the sliver screen, but they are not Thor material. I need a real actor that’s not shining like Brad Pitt. Like I said he can acted it’s just he to much of poster boy. I would like more of a small never heard of actor then a high paid star. If there is one star that fit the bill it would be Pitt.
May 14th, 2008 at 11:11 am
ZAKK WYLDE!! enough said.
May 14th, 2008 at 9:08 pm
Jeffrey Phillip Wiedlandt aka Zakk Wylde is a guitarist not an actor. When the last time a cross over artist was even half good.
May 15th, 2008 at 12:50 pm
i think karl urban might be good choice, brad pitt is way to short for this role, gerard butler might also be a good choice but please not a big dumb wrestler with no acting talent blade 3 anyone
May 15th, 2008 at 7:33 pm
well “Jeffrey Phillip Wiedlandt” doesn’t have to be a good actor, just be there and be awesome.
May 16th, 2008 at 7:33 pm
Al Sharpton.
May 29th, 2008 at 5:51 pm
I’m with ryan on this, Karl Urban is the man for the job. Look at him as Eomer in Lord of the Rings parts 2 and 3. He has the physique, the presence and he can ACT. And whoever it is must NOT speak with an American accent.
If they cast a lump of meat who was selected for bicep size I won’t go to see it, and Thor is one of my all-time fave Marvel characters.
May 29th, 2008 at 5:52 pm
…and while we’re at it, you couldn’t have a Thor film without Loki. Any thoughts who should play him? Or Odin, for that matter?
Suggestions on an Uru platter please!
June 12th, 2008 at 12:24 am
KARL URBAN (PATHFINDER) would make an excellent THOR. Brad Pitt would actually be good for CAPTAIN AMERICA, but he’s cast already…
June 17th, 2008 at 9:44 pm
KARL URBAN (PATHFINDER) would make an excellent THOR. Brad Pitt would actually be good for CAPTAIN AMERICA, but he’s cast already…
Yeah Karl Urban and Jason Statham would be great, they have a better heroic proportion and acting stints , brad pitt can be cap too but could be less bulky i guess..
June 17th, 2008 at 9:47 pm
Pahfinder could prove it but you better find a good supporting actors for him, Jason Statham proves he can be Cap in his Transporter movies… why not?*
June 25th, 2008 at 5:01 pm
If you compare the picture above and the picture below you will find that Brad Pitt may not be the ideal Thor.
http://www.plundered.net/images/ultimate_thor.jpg
We need someone with a hateful look, and not a famous reputation. However this might bring more people to see the movie.
July 8th, 2008 at 1:37 pm
My choice for THOR is Matthias Hues. He has the size (6ft. 4 1/2″), the muscular build. The Scandinavian look (even thought he is German). long blond hair. Best know as the villain in “I come in peace”.
July 15th, 2008 at 3:48 am
@ spacetrain
Matthias Hues is a good solution to who should play Thor. An old school martial artist/actor would be better than a “professional wrestlers” any day of the week. Even though you give a good answer I still stick with my answers: “Matthew McConaughey looks the part for Captain America but can he act the part, Ben Foster but he already is Angel so he is out. I would like to see him reprise that role, Guy Pearce as Captain America, Kevin Sorbo as Thor, and Ryan Phillipe as Captain America.” But at the same time I am growing on the idea of Pitt being Thor. He might not be the one that looks the most like Thor but he would do a good job at acting in my opinion. If he trained like the guy in 300 he would look a bit closer to Thor. There might have to be some CGI work also to achieve the full Thor look. Brad Pitt would have to combined his look from Troy as Achilles, a Spartan from 300, and classic model of Thor to achieve a decent look for Thor.
July 29th, 2008 at 5:05 am
Zakk Wylde doesn’t really need 2 “act” he is thor watch him perform live.
If he can get the accent which I know he can from hearing him fooling around its over Zakks stage precent would make a big impact on screen as Thor even b4 he opens his mouth go 2 youtube and watch Superterrizer (live) by black label and watch some interviews you will see he was born 4 it he’s already a Guitar God it aint much of a stretch 4 him 2 be a Norse God
August 8th, 2008 at 1:04 am
IF I WOULD HAVE TO CAST “THOR” , HHH WOULD HAVE BEEN MY FIRST CHOICE.
August 8th, 2008 at 1:08 am
IF I WOULD HAVE TO CAST “THOR” , HHH WOULD HAVE BEEN MY FIRST CHOICE, AFTER ALL HE IS BIG ENOUGH TO FIT FOR N HE IS ALREADY ADAPTED WITH A HAMMER YOU ARE RIGHT “THE SLEDGE HAMMER”
September 9th, 2008 at 12:50 am
Brad Pitt’s not a bad choice.
Sean Bean would be okay.
September 13th, 2008 at 11:58 am
Robert Downy Jr’s selection as iron man was looked down upon before it blew up big on the big screen. If marvel does end up using Pitt it could be deja vu of the gold and hot rod red of the iron blockbuster.
In the simplest terms big name actors aren’t big names because the suck, they get big bucks because they can make us remember the performance that give us no matter what the role. Pitt might not be the perfect choice but when the chips are on the table hes got the actiong ability to pull it off.
September 17th, 2008 at 6:42 pm
Brad Pitt as Thor would be cheesy!
Brad Pitt has NO muscle mass! He may be built to the average fat couch potato, but not to an athlete or someone who works out! The guy weighs 160lbs soaking wet and he is a horrible actor.
Your better getting someone who can ACT and who can FIT the appearance of THOR!
Brad Pitt would RUIN Thor or He-man!
September 17th, 2008 at 6:55 pm
You’ve got to be on crack…Brad Pitt?
The guy is an overrated actor with no muscular size and is too short!
As ANY superhero Pitt would be a BAD choice. He is better of playing outdated fruity roles such as Legends Of the Fall.
Triple H, or Karl Urban, Matthias Hues just to name a few would be better choices for Thor!
September 18th, 2008 at 6:38 am
Go ahead and watch Jesse James, Babel, 12 Monkeys, etc again and tell me he is overrated or a terrible actor (and wait until Ben Button comes out).
Legends of the Fall is not a bad movie either…
Also, no muscle mass, did you see him in Troy?
You must joking by even mentioning they use a pro wrestler in a big budget marvel property…
