Marvel Wants Brad Pitt for Thor?

Brad Pitt as Thor

Our friends at LatinoReview are reporting that Marvel wants Brad Pitt for the upcoming big screen adaptation of Thor. Let’s face it, isn’t Brad Pitt on every project’s preliminary casting lists for dream stars? Of course, no offer has been made to the star, and when one is, I doubt he would actually be interested (but you never know with these Iron Man $$$ numbers). Would Pitt make a good Thor? You certainly need someone with acting skills to pull off this role. The old school approach of casting a muscular model-like actor like Arnold could only result in an extremely cheesy film.

Discuss: Who would you cast as Thor? Is Brad Pitt on your short list?

I don't think he's big enough... he only weighs 180 pounds doesn't he?
  • Galdersorg
Only an Unknown and preferably of Scandinavian descent. I really can't see Pitt as any superhero let alone a Norse God.
  • Kaigen
Kevin McKidd was rumoured for it a while back, wasn't he? I thought he was a great pick. Besides - it would rock to have both Pullo and Vorenus playing Marvel characters.
  • LOTNorm
    I already saw Troy.

Not that he wouldn't be able to do it; I just don't think it would give the film the right feel.

Perhaps someone like Jason Statham? No? Hell, I don't know.
  • sean p
    How about Bridgette Nielsen?
  • The E
Using Brad Pitt for a role like this would be bad. He would bring in the numbers but totally send the wrong message or imply the wrong type of character. Brad Pitt is just about money and over the top box office movies.

They need to get another actor who is known, but not HUGE or rather been in enough big money makers to sink a ship for this role. I think a better no-name actor for this role would be:

    Nikolaj Coster-Waldau

He's the lead in the show Fox premiered this year "New Amsterdam". I doubt they'll do another season so hes got an open schedule. With a little toning he would be perfect for the role of Thor.
  • Hunter Stephenson
I could actually see this happening.
  • I'm just glad I'm not the one that has to cast this role! Talk about a thankless job. My opinion hasn't changed, go for a great actor that no one has seen much of. Has anyone thought about slightly digitally making someone just a tiny bit bigger? No CGI or fake make-up, but just take the actor and make him like 120% bigger in every scene? Might work for Thor.
  • Captain Awesome
    lol @ sean p's post
  • Captain Awesome
    Peter,

You couldn't have picked a more homo-erotic image of Thor.

    haha
  • Hogan
How about Steven Segal? Or Lorezo Lamas
  • LOTNorm
    @Captain Awesome

What? He's just wielding his mighty hammer...
  • SUe
He would make a better Cap. This is good news, they now just have to fix the McConoghey thing. That's like the Ben Affleck as Daredevil. Hire QUALITY actors, not idiots like M.M.
  • lancelewis
Bridgette Nielsen? He's certianly tall enough, but that guy is getting a little old. I think Tyler Mane would make a fairly imposing Thor.
  • I'm actually not against this decision. Pitt is a versatile and extremely talented actor and while Troy was not that great of a movie I don't think it can be a weighting point for his talent.
  • What
He's got the look, but he'd look ridiculous in that outfit. They'll need a total cotsume re think for this. I don't envy them on who ever has that task.

Strangely I can kind of see him doing this. Troy's probably clouding my judgment though :)

If there is an Avengers film, then he'd not be overshadowed if Sam L Jackson and Downey Jr were on board. A new guy in that film would be overshadowed by those big names.
  • Joe
I can actually see Pitt taking on the role, but I agree that it would send the wrong message. Plus, they need to find someone that can have good chemistry with the rest of the cast for when Avengers hits the screen.

Plus I also heard that the people that is adapting He-Man wants Brad Pitt too. It's practically the same character.
  • Bano
i totally agree with this guy .... we have downey ,jackson and norton ..so the cap and thor need to be played by big names ..Brad pitt as thor would be cool
  • Tom
    The answer is obvious.

    Fabio

    Sounds about right. hahaha
  • Bryan
This is a horrible idea. Pitt as Thor is ... horrible.

While not huge in size (and probably too old), but the guy who played Buliwyf in the 13th warrior is more of what I see Thor being. The dude has to be fairly big, which Pitt is not.

What about WWE's HHH? I imagine the acting would be awful though ... then again, how good an actor do you need to be to play a Norse God?
  • Floppy
If Nathan Jones (the guy Pitt stabs in the neck at the start of Troy) could act he would be a hellacious Thor. He is a beast in Tom Yum Goong and makes a decent showing in Jet Li's Fearless and The Condemned.
  • Brad would be an awesome Ultimate Thor.
  • Aaron
Brad Pitt next to Downeys Stark and Nortons Banner would be a rather cool sight.

Cap is the tough part... I honestly think it would be best if Cap were younger than the rest. Plus it would make the most logiocal choice.

Hey! Fight Club reunion! Norton and Pitt.
  • Aaron
    Paul Walker as Cap!
  • Kote
Nathan Jones would be tight hes the biggest mofo around in movie buisness and reletivly unknown with hair at least
  • artgood
I think Pitt is a fantastic choice. Why does Thor have to be younger? Pitt is a good actor, he blends in nicely in ensemble films (Ocean's), and he can be over the top when he needs to be.

I think he'd be a great choice, and an Avenger's movie is going to set Box Office records.
  • mike
I would love it... he could easily bulk up like he did for Troy... and i think what Robert did with Iron Man and kind of press he is getting would only make it more enticing for Brad - though I doubt he would do it. The costume (and a story that will work) are the big things when really sitting down and saying if he is in this movie or not.

    @ The E:
What are you talking about by saying "Brad Pitt is just about money and over the top box office movies." Are you telling me that Babel, Jesse James, Burn After Reading, Benjamin Button, Tree of Life, and Chad Schmidt (which he said he wanted to do, but do not know the current status) are money movies? I guess you can say that about the Ocean's and Mr. & Mrs. Smith movies, but he did all the Ocean's becuase is friends with the crew and esp Clooney. If anything could be said by his current career choice, he is in for quality Oscar-worthy films, becuase he wants a statue.
  • FranklyMyDear
I vote for Paul Teutul Sr. from American Chopper fame!
  • crushedice
    i'm thinking Gerard Butler
  • Floppy
    @ Kote

Nathan Jones is definitely huge and has the low profile to have people saying "who in the hell?" which I think helps with new/revitalized properties by pulling people in to the world, but I don't know how his actual acting is.
  • Meli
Ugh, I don't like it. While I enjoy Pitt in the occasional
action flick I don't see him as Thor. I didn't like
him in Troy very much, he may look the part, but I didn't
believe in his performance. I know I'm in the minority, but
I have never been much of a fan.
  • GregoryV
this movie shouldnt be made PERIOD.
  • GHOST
I can see it happening. When he has a full beard he looks like a good Thor as well. And an Avengers film with top notch actors could be the Ocean's Eleven of this type of films.
  • oddphere
the person who fits as thor is the wrestler triple h, i know he is not a top quality actor, but size and look wise he is dead on.
  • moviespartan
    NOOO WAAY!
tbh i like brad pitt he was amaze in fight club, but simple he wud not be right for this character at all!

thor movie is parently gnna be very asgardy and gnna be very new and fresh to the marvel movie scene, we need a youngish and relativuly unheard of actor who is big but not arnie or HHH big lol...btw i read like a few months ago hhh wnted to play him and marvel like lughed at the thought...

and the dude that sed paul walker as cap, wen i read tht i was intrigued as he cud be gd but cos of many of his roles hes played, cheesy charaters basically could flaw the film.

BTW...tyrese as luke cage make the damn film, cud be soo easiliy dne i cud make a gd luke cage film, nd i put danny rand(iron fist) in for a cameo, LOL

    So.. damn.. true.
I totally see them hiring a fuckin brainless wrestler =(
  • cammywobs
    JOUKO AHOLA

This guy is perfect. You won't do any better than a former World's Strongest Man from Finland who has sharpened his chops in Kingdom of Heaven and Werner Herzog's Invincible. He also has an effing sweet accent.
  • Kode
    SAY NO
    TO FUCKIN
    WRESTLERS
  • justin
whats Dolph Lundrenth been up to ...................he was agreat He Man ....................hehe
  • Captain Awesome
Jacko from the old Energizer commercials would be a perfect Thor
  • Matthew
The best Thor would be played by Josh Holloway, aka "Sawyer" from Lost. He has the size and definitely looks the part.
  • evan
Daniel Craig. I'm sure he won't do it, but he would be a logical choice.
  • Bard Pitt sure dose look the part I mean we are talking Norse God vs. Achellies (half god). I am sure there are actors who can act better than Pitt. Don’t get me wrong Pitt can act but I think he’s too much of a poster boy for Thor. Even though I would like to Pitt and Norton back together again.

Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark aka Iron Man
Edward Norton as Bruce Banner aka Hulk

    Other Avengers:

Three things that need to be fulfilled: Do they look the part, can they act awesomely, can work with other amazing actors

Actor I see as good candidates for Avengers:

Matthew McConaughey looks the part for Captain America but can he act the part.
Ben Foster but he already is Angel so he is out. I would like to see him reprise that role.
    Guy Pearce as Captain America
    Kevin Sorbo as Thor
    Ryan Phillipe as Captain America

But another question is who to fill the shoes of

    Ant-Man
    Wasp
    Black Panther
    Black Widow
  • Tony
Vin Diesel but he needs long wavy hair.
  • orange cinema
    @ the E

"Brad Pitt is just about money and over the top box office movies"
uhh, i'm thinking you should imdb brad pitt. maybe do some research on the guy.

anyways, pitt's a good choice, like everyone here, i'd like to see that likeup of rdj, norton, pitt, and whoever else they choose. but ultimately i think i'd only like to see pitt in this role if the thor movie truly gets the period/LOTR treatment that has been mentioned. i know they could never get GDToro to do this, but someone in that vein would be perfect for this film.
  • They are definitely going to get a meathead wrestler. No doubt, Pitt is going to look at the script and throw it out. To those clowns who think HHH looks the part, you are exactly right! You're going to get badly acted, chessy movie. HHH had that little part in Blade: Trinity (I saw part of the movie TNT) and that's all I needed to see. Pitt should go for Captain America.

"Triple H is said to be in the running for the lead role in Marvel's upcoming movie Thor, which is scheduled to be released in late spring 2010. The other lead candidate for the role is Kevin McKidd of HBO's Rome series."

    OH FUCK NO...
  • Ahm.. my comment went to moderation
    But from wrestlemania.com:

The person who plays Thor is going to have to play Donald Blake as well - unless they totally screw up the character. Pitt could do it.
  • Azure Trayl
Pitt would actually make a good Donald Blake (remember, he's two people), but not Thor. As someone suggested earlier on this page, use someone with the build and accent that can truly put it together. If you take for example, the guy how played Buliwyf in the 13th Warrior (Vladimir Kulich) if you run by IMDB and see his features, that is the Thor I see in my mind. If they decide to find an actor to portray him stateside, the only person that comes to mind is John Ceina...I know, it's a long stretch, but I believe he did a good job despite bad writing on the Marine.
