Star Crash Movie Trailer

The Pitch: Apparently in 1979, New World Pictures producer Roger Corman picked up the film to see if the market was viable for a low budget space opera. The result is a ridiculous Star Wars rip-off titled Star Crash, featuring a lightsaber battle featuring David Hasselhoff (seen below). The movie also features Christopher Plummer as The Emperor (I kid you not). Director Lewis Coates went on to direct the 1983 film Hercules starring Lou Ferrigno.

Re-release this today and market it as old school (ala GRINDHOUSE) and they might make a pretty penny. Entertaining retro trailer. Some indie filmmakers today would kill to get this level of ‘retro’ into their work.

LOL I like the numerous bikini clad girls….

There’re a lot of good cheddar there, but it’s not as foul as I thought it’d be.

If you come to Rome, you can meet Lewis Coates, whose real name is Luigi Cozzi, director of Star Crash and the Hercules movies with Lou Ferrigno at Profondo Rosso, the shop he manages and co-owns with his friend Dario Argento. He sells overpriced SF and horror DVDs and cheap latex masks… His career died with the use of stop-motion in film making.

And another thing, wouldn’t the lightsabre cut through the steel sword? And the guy with the blonde hair kind of looks like William Kaat, The Greatest American Hero.

oh and on the “metal sword vs lightsaber”, it might work. look at grevious’ bodyguards in ROTS. they had those metal bo weapons which had some shield like electric effects at the tips.

maybe IG-88 junior over in that movie had a similiar thing going on with his scimitar. use your imagination people!

I probably will not enjoy that much this film now, but then…. when I was a kid… I would have gone crazy about it, it looks great. Pity I didn’t know about it.
And about the metal sword vs. lightsaber… it could be that the metal sword has an invisible shield around it, I can’t believe that nobody thought about it… :)

for those of you that have seen The Mighty Boosh, at 2.04 that guy looks a lot like a silver Tony Harrison.

Wait, that’s three words. No matter, she’s still the mallard’s testicles here.
