School of Rock with teens instead of squirts equals this new trailer for The Rocker. Example: “You don’t ask your parents for permission to rock!” And if you watch closely Rainn Wilson (yes, veddy good on The Office) even begins to resemble Jack Black in SoR near the end.
There are some laffs here: fat guy hurricane’ing snot on a hot gal’s forehead (Superbad’s Emma Stone), noodle eating, Jeff Garlin off the bat…and Wilson sprinting is always funnay. There is dated lameness here: a band called ADD, creepy girl saying “Hello YouTube,” porn site password jokes in 2008, cliche “it’s about the music” confession, an unfunny recreation of 1988 (hard to do). Not appearing much, if at all, here, but on the plus side: Fred Armisen, Aziz Ansari, Jane Lynch. Hard to say if this Fox Atomic (ohai) comedy is going to connect or whimper off like a sappier Hot Rod. Who’s the audience, Office fans with bored nephews?
The Rocker opens nationwide on August 1st.
Discuss: What do you think of the trailer for The Rocker? Are soft-irony movies about white guys “rocking out!!!” still funny sans the already championed Anvil! The Story of Anvil?

The part where he’s climbing the top of the car with drumsticks, T-1000 style, was pretty funny.

I’m out. I didn’t laugh once, but I smiled a couple of times.
Of course this movie could turn out to be one of the few that
have horrible trailers, show all the bad jokes, but ends up being
funny and entertaining…..yeah, who am I kidding.

That’s pretty wacky there, Hollywood

“You don’t ask your parents for permission to rock!†is a fairly blatant ripoff of a great line from one of the funniest Aqua Teen Hunger Force episodes (the one with the Foreigner belt).

As Lance @ FD allready pointed out, it’s the poor man’s Jonah Hill.

Yeah SUe, i thought it was him for a split second when it showed him, but then i said that he’s a little fatter and not as funny.

well.. if it has a good rock soundtrack (well at least hals as good as Walk Hard’s one) it’s gonna be a great movie

Gee, I hope this one turns into ‘the little Indie that could.’

I’ll be anywhere that this movie isn’t playing if you need me.

It like Wayne’s World, but with a thinner plot and less funny gags!
Uh….
I’ll wait for the DVD. It won’t be a long wait.

I thought it had a few good laughs. I really like Wilson in the Office. I’m looking forward to it. Maybe not in theaters though.

DVD (in my best 80’s rockin’ Dio voice)!!! Funny parts, but not movie theater funny. But, I did laugh during the trailer, so I will have to see it. If I can endure Hot Rod, I can hang with this too.

When someone wants to know what below average looks like I’ll send them this trailer.

I’m pretty sure they wanted Jonah Hill and he said no, so they got the guy that looks and talks exactly like him.

Hey Will Arnett’s in it too.

I thought the trailer was full of funny gags. Dwight from The Office is perfect for the loser that could. I am going to see in the theatres. Arnett is always great and Appelgate is a hottie.
