It would be kind of excellent if the theme song to Twilight was a reworking of Madonna’s “Lucky Star.” Oh, hi Twilighters. MTV, obviously, has the exclusive teaser poster for their probable blockbuster adaptation of author/future mogul Stephenie Myer’s teen-lit vampire romance. Click to pop.
Moreover, the poster was designed by 18-year-old rock photographer Joey Lawrence, who went on to tell Music Television that he’ll be “doing all the [Twilight] movies.” If you’re wondering, there are currently three books, Twilight, New Moon and Eclipse, with a fourth, Breaking Dawn, due in August (thanks Ali). And with my post complete, I take hold of an awestruck neighborhood girl’s hand and fly off into the cloudy daylight.
Discuss: What do you think of the poster? Is Twilight to the ’00s what The Lost Boys was to the ’80s? Or is it merely The Covenant meets the NKOTB craze of yesteryear?

Is this a movie about a really tall pale guy who can only come out at night because he’s so freakishly tall?
Or is it a movie about a midget girl? named twilight…?
May 6th, 2008 at 8:54 am
Why oh why?!
This poster looks terrible…seriously…it looks horrible…possibly one of the worst movie posters I have ever seen.
May 6th, 2008 at 9:02 am
They’ve airbrushed the dude’s head into proportion! Somebody in marketing must have noticed the same problem of his distractingly deformed head. Smooth move MTV.
May 6th, 2008 at 9:09 am
Who cares about this movie? Who cares about this stupid poster?
May 6th, 2008 at 9:17 am
I love Kristen Stewart

@ FilmRespect
The trailer post below is past 100+ comments, the prior Twilight post received 1,000+ comments and we had to turn off the commenting feature due to overload.
May 6th, 2008 at 9:32 am
I can’t wait for the movie to come out! FOR ALL YOU THAT ARE MAKING BAD COMMENTS ABOUT THE MOVIE ALL I CAN SAY IS……IF YOU HAVEN’T READ THE BOOK YOU WON’T UNDERSTAND A THING. The books that Stephanie Meyers writes are so enticing they’re hard to let go and if you haven’t read them then your missing alot.
May 6th, 2008 at 9:47 am
Hey Hunter! Just so you know, the fourth book due out in August is called Breaking Dawn - not Midnight Sun. :)
Neat poster. Better than the last image they doled out - but I’m not a big fan of the “overly-photoshopped” look. Maybe third will be the charm?
May 6th, 2008 at 9:57 am
The fourth book in the series will be “Breaking Dawn” and that is set for release on August 2, 2008. As the book “Twilight” is written from Bella’s perspective, the book “Midnight Sun” is written from Edwards perspective. There is currently no release date set for this book.
The book series is insanely popular across many demographics: teens as well as adults, girls as well as guys, Mothers (TwilightMoms) as well as Fathers (TwilightGuys). So any online movie blog/website that doesn’t pay attention to this movie, will probably upset a great number of movie fans.
Snarky comments aside, thank you for this bit on the movie.

I didn’t read the Iron man comics and I didn’t understand a thing. :(
I didn’t read the I Am Legend novel and I didn’t understand a thing. :(
I didn’t read the Harry Potter series and I didn’t understand a thing. :(
I didn’t read the Gone Baby Gone novel and I didn’t understand a thing. :(
I didn’t read the LOTR books and I didn’t understand a thing. :(
if anything is adapted from a book. I won’t understand it because I didn’t read the the book from which it was adapted from. :(

@ debbie-dub
Who’s in charge of the Twilight Wikipedia page, b/c it’s rather lackluster? You guys should rock it. ;)
TwilightMoms. Why are the dads called TwilightGuys rather than TwilightDads or TwilightMyDaughterandIHaveSomethinginCommons?
May 6th, 2008 at 10:08 am
I think the movie poster looks horrible. It’s WAY too
airbrushed and if they want to attract a wide audience
they need not to solely depend on name recognition of the
book series because no matter how large the fan base may
be the studios want beyond those numbers. What will
attract those unaware of the novels (I had only seen them in
the bookstore, but didn’t know a thing about them till this
site reported on it) is good marketing and well cut trailers.
The teaser poster isn’t exactly promising, but it is a beginning.
I’m curious to see how the marketing develops. And for those
who love the books I hope it is good for them. Right now, I’m
only mildly interested because I like vampires.
May 6th, 2008 at 10:22 am
i think maybe i would like the poster if the guy wasn’t hovering over the girl, who by the looks rather attractive in that light/pose. i don’t mind it being so photoshopped though
there’s to be registration for this site so that fangirls and the like can be weeded out. although i admit is is rather funny. but its annoying being invaded also too.
@ denise j. and other fangirls
i doubt you will look at this but please stop invading. and don’t post unless you have something constructive to say about the topic at hand.
May 6th, 2008 at 10:38 am
Mr. Stephenson,
Must the Moms take care of everything? Hahaha, I will have to put that out to the TwilightMoms and someone in the know will probably take care of it.
As far as what the Dads call themselves, we don’t really have any say in that, now do we? There are actually a few guys who are on TwilightMoms as well.
You did hit upon a point, Hunter, I encourage any parent with a teenage girl (or boy for that matter) to read the series. Stories abound about teens who would never think to pick up a book (let alone a 500+ page one), pick up Twilight and suddenly can’t get enough! From a parental perspective, it is a great opportunity to make a connection with your child and can open up many avenues for discussion(s).
On the other hand, for those who will never pick up the book, I will let you off the ‘reading-assignment hook’: I think the movie will stand on its own. From all that I have seen, the movie has been written and filmed in such a way that reading the books will not be a necessity. There, does that take the pressure off all of you non-readers? (But I still contend that you would understand the fanbase more if you read the entire series ;)
Sorry for the length…I’m a Mom…not a writer!
May 6th, 2008 at 10:45 am
The chick looks like some trailer-trash junkie. The way that the marketing team is approaching this movie is hilariously bad, and despite how I want to yell at how awful these things being released are… I’m not going to. Honestly, I want them to keep turning out this awful crap to ‘promote’ this movie (which really, is backfiring on everyone and every demographic outside of the Twilight Cult), just to watch this ’series’ collapse under it’s own awful weight.
May 6th, 2008 at 10:57 am
first of all, this is a movie blog site, so phuck books. the poster, obviously more airbrushed than playboys centerfolds, looks as cheesy as the teaser and the pics, so i think its now safe to say that the movie is going to be cheese fest. and not the good kind. someone please post a link to the twilight blogs, so we can all launch a counter-invasion.
May 6th, 2008 at 11:03 am
i was so caught up looking at the terrible 9th grade photoshop assignment that i totally forgot about the sequel part. that is just plain arrogant. they think it will be that succesful? its a cheesy romance story of a fricking little kid that is a vampire with superpowers, it sounds retarded, and no i havent read the book, but thats because it sounds retarded. i cant imagine that this will go very far. if it does, its because another MTV producer has sold their soul.
May 6th, 2008 at 11:41 am
I believe that the movie is going to be awesome, and I really like the poster. I believe if the people who dont really get the meaning behind the poster need to read the books, because it totally fits the book and the movie.
May 6th, 2008 at 11:52 am
the meaning BEHIND the poster? wow, i never thought to look so deep. now i see. thank you for opening my eyes to this, mary. I can truly appreciate the bad photoshop skills of the 18 year old designer. obviously the producers dont seem to care too much about this movie if they put the first poster in the hands of an 18 year old, and then produce a crappy teaser that looks like a bad fan-fic come to life.
May 6th, 2008 at 11:57 am
you really do like madonna dont you, its all falling into place….
May 6th, 2008 at 11:58 am
I Love The Books,, I’ve got them all!!
Can’t Wait to see the Movie:D
May 6th, 2008 at 12:14 pm
Blah.
That is all
May 6th, 2008 at 12:34 pm
Ugh. I am really not liking the poster. It’s just not very visually appealing, and looks downright terrible from a graphic design standpoint.
May 6th, 2008 at 12:36 pm
@ seanovan
are you related to donovan?
May 6th, 2008 at 1:18 pm
That is one of the most boring movie posters I have ever seen.
May 6th, 2008 at 1:46 pm
Bad poster or not, I’m still looking forward to seeing this movie and reading the new book once it comes out. I’ll show my support for Kristen Stewart. The poster could have been better but I have seen a lot worse.
May 6th, 2008 at 2:13 pm
the poster could have been better…
May 6th, 2008 at 2:56 pm
i pity all of you who are rude enough to blast the poster without even considering reading the book. i absolutley adore the series and can’t wait for the movie. EDWARD IS AWESOME!!!!
May 6th, 2008 at 3:22 pm
look, I know its frusterating, But people who have not read the book, you need to stop talking crap about the moive and stuff. It is stupid for you to be doing. BUT See I think that the movie is going to be so different from the book that none of the Book fans are gonna like it. I HATE robert who is playing Edward. I just do. Bella is ok and the rest of the cast is good to but EDWARD OMG WHY DID THEY PICK A GUY SO UCKY?! lol. Emmet is not supposed to be more atractive =P but he is. And so Is jacob. I DON”T WANT TO BE A JACOB FAN!!!! haha
May 6th, 2008 at 3:31 pm
I personally like the poster. It’s no more airbrushed or fake looking than any other poster ie: x-men, iron man, any fantasy based thing.
I think the movie will be great for the genre and who cares really what the poster looks like, it’s not the poster that will make or break a movie now is it.
why the hostility for Twilight guys? Is it because it wasn’t a comic first or because you can’t roll a twenty sided die to see what powers and attributes Edward will have?
Lets try not to hate so much till the movie is actually on the big screen, give this fun, low-budget movie a chance to live. it really is a great story.
May 6th, 2008 at 3:50 pm
OME!!! This movie is going to be better than we thought;) *Hyperventilating*
May 6th, 2008 at 4:13 pm
Still repeating what I’ve said before.
IT IS NOT A HORROR FLICK! IT’S A TEEN ROMANCE MOVIE!
THIS MOVIE IS MADE FOR ROMANCE FANS, NOT SCI-FI GEEKS LIKE US (PEOPLE THAT CHECK SLASHFILM ABOUT 4 TIMES A DAY LIKE ME).
I still like the books and I don’t recomend it for a guy that just wants all movies to be like Iron Man.
THEY ARE NOT SUPERHEROS! WE SHOULDN’T JUDGE THIS MOVIE LIKE IF IT WAS A COMIC BOOK MOVIE OR A HORROR FILM!
May 6th, 2008 at 4:16 pm
Allah, I hope this flops terribly, as I’m sure it will.
May 6th, 2008 at 5:51 pm
who is donovan?
unless thats some sort of joke, then, well played sir, well played.
May 6th, 2008 at 6:39 pm
i dont care for the poster.
what im really curious is the music score/selection. im sure its gonna be some EMOtional-OC american reject trash.
May 6th, 2008 at 9:53 pm
I gotta say, Hunter, I’m starting to regret telling you the about whole sparkling thing. You’re having a little too much fun with it. Haha. Have fun in that “cloudy daylight” of yours.
May 6th, 2008 at 11:13 pm
i love the books and i can not wait for the movie. the books are the first ever novels i have read and so im really thrilled that they r becoming movies
May 6th, 2008 at 11:44 pm
I JUST HAVE TO SAY THAT MOST OF YOU PEOPLE WHO ARE COMMENTING ON THIS POSTER AND MOVIE HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO RIGHT TO AND NEED TO SHUT YOUR NEGATIVE, RUDE, AND ABUSIVE TRAPS!!!! IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THE BOOKS THEN YOU DO NOT HAVE THE SLIGHTEST KNOWLEDGE OF WHAT AMAZING TALENT STEPHENIE MEYER, AUTHOR OF THE TWILIGHT SAGA, HAS AND THEREFORE YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THIS MOVIE MEANS TO HER DEVOTED FANS!!! THEY HAVE PUT A LOT OF EFFORT INTO THIS MOVIE AND ALOT OF EFFORT INTO PLEASING THE FANS…. NOT INTO PLEASING PEOPLE LIKE YOU WHO THINK THAT THEY ARE THE GODS OF SCIENCE-FICTION AND WHO HAVE NOTHING BETTER TO DO THAN TO HARP ON THINGS THAT MAKE OTHERS HAPPY AND TO RANT AND COMPLAIN ABOUT ANYTHING THAT IS NOT UP TO YOUR OH SO PRECIOUS STANDARDS OF ALL THINGS SCIENCE-FICTION!!! GET OVER YOURSELVES…. GET A LIFE…. AND LEAVE TWILIGHT ALONE!!! OR BETTER YET ACTUALLY GO OUT AND READ THE BOOKS INSTEAD OF SITTING ON YOUR LAZY BUTTS ALL DAY WATCHING TV AND SURFING THE NET!!!
May 7th, 2008 at 1:09 am
I’m confused- how does reading the books help you appreciate the visual of a poster? When I first saw this posted on a community I frequent I skipped right past it, because I truly believed it was some fan-made art, and not the official poster. It looks that bad.
May 7th, 2008 at 6:32 am
I agree, what does reading the books have to do with the crappy poster? I’ve read books turned movies and not liked the posters. I think it’s cool that you’re all such huge fans, but that doesn’t mean you have to like everything associated with the books. The poster is boring. If anything I would think you being such big fans would expect more from their advertising dept instead of this lackluster pile of crap. It looks more like a poster for some crappy WB/CW show. Stop being blind fans and say something constructive.
May 7th, 2008 at 9:37 am
I quite like the poster. The photographer may be 18 but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t got talent. This isn’t the only thing the guy has ever done. Visually it has the dark edge to it that comes with Edward’s persona and self-loathing. he looks detached and inhuman as he should. The way he is looming over her has the kind of protective yet predatory feel (and conflict) of the character (besides the fact that there is nearly a foot in height difference in the actors/characters anyway, so he IS quite a bit taller). Bella looks confident and comfortable though perhaps slightly wary and I like that the lighting is more focused on her as the story is originally from her point of view. I am pleased with it. Looking forward to the others.
May 7th, 2008 at 12:21 pm
@ sanguina
thanks for at least supporting this poster intelligently.
beware everyone, i have reason to beleive that twilight is actually a cult of blind mindless zombies that will worship anything stephanie meyers can shit out. be on the look out for blind support and mindless praise of crappy posters and shitty teaser trailers.
May 7th, 2008 at 12:28 pm
go take a mytol and talk it out with your sister-wives sarah, and lose the caps-lock.
May 7th, 2008 at 12:28 pm
just ban me already.
May 8th, 2008 at 6:31 pm
I have better shoop skills than that, and that was not an attempted ego-boost by any means.
Not my favorite poster. The composition is rather bad and I think they could’ve done without Edward’s googly eye and excessive airbrushing.
Edward appears to be looming out of place, not really protective. However, the dual light sources is a nice touch on Kristen’s face.
May 8th, 2008 at 11:06 pm
You know it really annoys me when people judge a book or a movie before they even give it a chance! I mean come on! And as for the poster it is just the first one, and it doesn’t look as bad as others I have seen before, I think It looks pretty decent. People are just so full of themselves.
May 9th, 2008 at 4:12 pm
awesome i like it!!
May 10th, 2008 at 5:11 pm
Sure it’s airbrushed… but so are all movie posters these days…
I think it’s great, I’m very excited..
I read an interview from the photographer who said he made it this way (with Edward all ‘hovering’ over Bella) because of the characters and how protective Edward eventually becomes of her
And of course they have to show the contrast in skin colors between them, so they had to make him look a bit paler…
The eyes thing had to be brought out… his eyes change colors based on how ‘thirsty’ he is…
May 11th, 2008 at 7:11 pm
the poster is…HORRIBLE. but the books are AMAZING. and as long as the movie doesnt leave out every single scene it should be pretty good too. but I dont understand why Edward (Robert) looks so freakishly tall or why Bella (Kristen) is so creepily small. its just…so bad.
and I HAVE seen better fan posters…they should have gotten a fan who was also a photographer to do the poster.
May 12th, 2008 at 8:44 am
@ Sarah
Step back, take a breath and turn off the caps. This is merely peoples opinions. If you don’t like it, voice it in a non annoying way please.
@ Analeigh
The guy that did the poster was a fan and also a photographer for the movie. And my thoughts on why Robert is so tall is because he wanted to show that he’s protecting Bella.. But that’s just a thought.
I personally think that poster could have been better. I think for the offical movie poster it should just be the tagline and the title. Or maybe something small like the Cullens in the background.
May 12th, 2008 at 4:35 pm
you spelled Stephenie Meyer’s last name wrong! how dare you!
May 13th, 2008 at 8:09 am
I hate the poster, personally.
I don’t get it, though . . . I’ve followed Joey Lawrence for a couple of years and I’ve always LOVED his stuff. You should go to his site and check out the work he did with Panic at the Disco. It’s awesome! And then we have THIS.
Edward literally looks 10 feet tall. His eyes are over-emphasized. YES, they are supposed to stand out, but they don’t GLOW like they’ve made them in this photo. The angle that he’s put at is unnatural - no one can stand at that angle and remain upright.
And Kristen - she’s ok. I’m not crazy about the lighting. You can tell they had to tone down the shadows on her in post-processing and it looks bad. But her I can live with.
They just screwed up Edward. Horribly. I really hope this isn’t THE poster.
