Looks like Twilight won’t be saving Speed Racer after all. Summit Entertainment has released the first teaser trailer for Twilight on MySpace.
Based on the bestselling book series by Stephenie Meyer, and directed by Catherine Hardwicke, Twilight tells the story of 17-year-old Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) who moves to the small town of Forks, Washington to live with her father. She becomes drawn to Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), a pale, mysterious classmate who is part of a family of vampires. Their unorthodox romance puts her in physical danger when Edward’s nemesis comes to town and sets his sights on Bella.
So far /Film readers have been highly critical of this film adaptation. And while I’m not far off, I’m certainly intrigued by the intense fandom. I’ve even recently discovered some of my friends, who opinions I trust, are actually fans of the series. So I really want to give it a chance. And after watching the teaser trailer, I’m still not sure what to think.
Discuss: What do you think about the Twilight Teaser Trailer?

May 5th, 2008 at 1:09 pm
Wowsa, this is probably going to be the worst movie ever. Why does this shit keep getting made?
PURE GARBAGE
May 5th, 2008 at 1:18 pm
meh
May 5th, 2008 at 1:18 pm
just got done reading the story. i now see why its so appealing to girls. vampire is a nice piece of horror and romance pie, but this kind of story has been done too much and better. I’ll still probably download it though
May 5th, 2008 at 1:25 pm
That dude is so weird looking. Thought so in HP and this just confirms it.
May 5th, 2008 at 1:34 pm
Every movie critic who reviews Twilight and gives a positive review needs to have an asterisk next to his/her byline that means:
*i admit it, i am a lowly servant to the suspect tastes of American teens and have succumb to corporate pressure.
Also, no movie critic with kids should be able to mention their damn kids in said review of Twlight.
May 5th, 2008 at 1:41 pm
after /film first twilight post, i started reading the series (up to half of new moon) out of curiosity and being clueless like all the regulars on /film.
i had the book in hand on the bus and a teenage girl commented that swewart is all wrong. what the hell does she know, kristen stewart is perfect if you ever seen her other films.
personally, im not sold on the director. so there for, im not sold on the teaser. im sure a better trailer will come out in time for comic con.
May 5th, 2008 at 1:49 pm
but, this movie looks like shit.
TERRIBLE acting.
terrible directing.
looks like a ameature television show, and the characters all look like giant douchebags.
this movie will be terrible but will make a lot because of the thousands of people who like the book.
not saying the book is bad, especially if you are a young teenage girl. but that doesnt mean the movie will be the least bit watchable.
May 5th, 2008 at 1:49 pm
@ GregoryV
Personally, I think Catherine Hardwicke is a talented director, but this material has better aim than cupid with its intended audience. No harm in admitting you’re not in the line of fire.
May 5th, 2008 at 1:53 pm
Before the twilight moms or milfs or whatever the hell they call themselves storm this site I like to give my opinion on the trailer
It looks like hot gabage and I know I forgot the R but it doesn’t deserve to be dump in with the regular garbage.
I haven’t read the book and don’t plan on reading it so please don’t hit me with “you have to read the book” nonsense, only way that’ll happen if I’m stumped in the balls until there grounded into dust.
Word
May 5th, 2008 at 1:54 pm
HAHAHAHAHA. Oh my god that acting is horrible. Are you sure this isn’t a new crappy CW show? “you’re wrong edward, she’s not one of us”. Hillarious.
May 5th, 2008 at 1:56 pm
OMG. Terrible. Some emo kid mixed in with vampires and now hes got a crush on some girl? Why dont we all just go drink a bottle of Nyquill and go watch all the seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and then after that we can cut ourselves as we watch Charmed.
This movie, regardless of a fan base and where its roots are, sucks.
May 5th, 2008 at 1:56 pm
Wow this belongs on CW or something.
May 5th, 2008 at 2:09 pm
Ugh, I’m really hoping the movie will be redeemable. It goes back and forth for me. In the beginning, I figured it would suck. Then I saw the behind the scenes footage on MTV and it gave me some hope that it would be decent.
But this…this I don’t know what to make of.
I’m praying that when it all comes together, the bad acting will be out shined and it won’t look so cheesy. It is a film adaptation of a book, though, and I really shouldn’t get my hopes up. They never seem to come out right.
I suppose, as long as it’s better than Blood and Chocolate, I’ll be the tiniest bit satisfied.
May 5th, 2008 at 2:17 pm
Is it just me or does the guy in the middle look like a relative of Sloth?
May 5th, 2008 at 2:18 pm
I love the Twilight series, and I was upset that they decided to make a movie. But the trailer is actually better than I thought it would be, considering this is MTV making it. MTV always tries to glamour up everything they get ahold of. They can never make anything realistic. And what do you expect when you’ve got Catherine Hardwicke directing. Her other movies are awful.
May 5th, 2008 at 2:24 pm
I really don’t understand the hype behind this film.
May 5th, 2008 at 2:34 pm
This movie is going to be awesome,so shut the f*** up people!
Rob and Kristen are great actors, better than you!
Stop insulting this book, actors and movie!
Get a life!
May 5th, 2008 at 2:37 pm
Peter,
Get ready to shut the teenie bopper drama post down again (i feel it in the wind).
May 5th, 2008 at 2:38 pm
Oh dear God, I can’t wait to see this film. Yes, I’m a boy. Yes, I’ve read the whole series of books. And, YES, I WILL be seeing this movie.
And yes, Emily Browning would have made a better Bella! =]
May 5th, 2008 at 2:41 pm
@ Sara
Looks like we’ve upset a fifteen year old girl. Everyone apologize for ruining her fun.
May 5th, 2008 at 2:47 pm
I still don’t understand about the vampires in daylight…it’s part of the damn folklore…this is the dumbest looking vampire movie ever..it looks like jumper with pale kids…lol
May 5th, 2008 at 2:53 pm
@ Christopher Marc
In the books the vampires can’t go out in the sun because when they change, their skin hardens, and so in the sun it kind of sparkles - like glass.
So that explains why they can go out during the day - they just do so when it’s cloudy.
May 5th, 2008 at 2:55 pm
So when they’re in the sun they become Italian?
May 5th, 2008 at 2:55 pm
Maybe Twilight is the movie that kickstarts GEEKS VS TEENS: GENRE MOVIE BLOODBATH OF THE CENTURY. I can only hope. ;)
May 5th, 2008 at 2:56 pm
@ Ali
Sorry to be a “cloudy” killjoy, but that’s hilarious.
May 5th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
You have a good point Hunter.
May 5th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
Oh my god, this looks like shit. And yet, at the same time, I am so happy that this post was published, just for the simple fact that I’ll be able to keep checking back every now-and-then, and have a nice laugh at the obsessive Twilight fans when they start complaining to us about our viewpoints towards this truly awful trailer!
May 5th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
wtf is wrong with you people? i mean yea some of the actors are bad but SHEEZSH!! dont have to be so RUDE about it.
May 5th, 2008 at 2:59 pm
^ And so, it has begun…
May 5th, 2008 at 3:00 pm
@ WTF?
It makes me feel better about myself. Or whatever stereotypical answer you might have already got in your head. (Fuel the fire Ch!! haha)
May 5th, 2008 at 3:16 pm
“I’m not scared of you..”
I’m not either, in fact I’m laugh at how horribly you look and act.
This movie looks horrible, when does it air on Sci Fi again?
May 5th, 2008 at 3:45 pm
ahh it looks like a scary movie D:
May 5th, 2008 at 3:58 pm
The books are good. They entertain you for a while.
ps. This is not supposed to be a scary movie. It’s a teen romance film. They just put suspense on the trailer.
May 5th, 2008 at 4:00 pm
(Read it and did not like it) I will agree with the people who say that this should be on the CW. But i am going to watch again to confirm it……………. yep, that is CW material.
I can’t get over that “shes not one of us” line.
Next step is to show it to my Twilight obsessed girlfriend.
May 5th, 2008 at 4:10 pm
for all of you who think that this movie is going to look like CRAP your wrong!
if you would have read the book, then possibly you may have liked it.
May 5th, 2008 at 4:17 pm
In response, to the ever so kind but blatantly ignorant words written by a mister Tyler J. on the “Could Twilight be the next Harry Potter thread” I would like to issue a challenge to a mister Tyler J.
Find me one romance novel that isn’t a sleazy sex-fest, and then find me one WELL-WRITTEN teen novel that bears this same topic.
I believe the reason that you like smashing Twilight into the ground is that you seem to be some sort of homophobic. You feel that you have to show us how manly and butch you are by discrediting a phenomenon based around teenage girls. Before I continue I must say, GO ****ing kiss Senator Mcarthy. Now then, I want you to know that Stephenie Meyer targeted to the book to teenage girls because there is somewhat of a shortage of quality literature for said demographic. Then again, you probably enjoy all those trashy romances…
So you know what go rip out your chest hairs…yes, I am a man and I have a GIRLfriend. MMMkay!
Please excuse my rudeness, but I lost it. And yes, I am referring to all the others on the thread.
May 5th, 2008 at 4:28 pm
I’ll be looking forward to this b/c I’m a fan of Kristen Stewart and it’s looking “Ok” so far. I enjoyed the novels immensely, and there are very few movies I dont like, so I’ll be seeing it.
May 5th, 2008 at 4:44 pm
haha! i stand by my ‘covenant 2′ prediction. holy shit that was silly looking!
May 5th, 2008 at 4:48 pm
um, wow. ok, i really enjoyed the books for reasons touched Zane Valentino but the movie thing kinda upset me. i like kristen stewart, but man! the acting and dialogue in the trailer made me giggle . . . and not in a good way. oh well! i am too weak to resist, so i will go see it :)
May 5th, 2008 at 4:54 pm
How come previous generations got cool stuff like star wars and all we get is this b.s.??? @ Hunter, I’m more loyal to my fellow geeks than I am to my fellow teens. This looks like crap.
May 5th, 2008 at 4:58 pm
@ Hunter
Haha. I don’t write the books, I just read them. People are entitled to their opinions. :)
May 5th, 2008 at 5:08 pm
The trailer was okay. I hope the movie will be better!
May 5th, 2008 at 5:13 pm
Dude,
the book was amazing, and nothing can change that. I hope the movie will be good, but you have to go into the theaters thinking and knowing that the movie is going to be diffrent then the book. If you think that you wont be dissapointed,
Personaly, i think the movie looks amazing. Screw all you guys, Robert is hott!
May 5th, 2008 at 5:13 pm
and just a reminder…that this is probably one of the many comments from me, but i dont care. Anywho, just remember, that there will be more trailers. And to all of you people who think that this will be CRAP. Screw you.
If you have to talk to me, then email me at VBLuver4000@aim.com
Bring it…
May 5th, 2008 at 5:15 pm
and the book is amazing…and I TOTALLY agree with Tracy, the one above me. Robert is HAWT and screw you if you dont think so…
May 5th, 2008 at 5:21 pm
looks like the 13 year olds have their panties in a bunch.
May 5th, 2008 at 5:34 pm
I’m thinking this teaser was made in haste, since filming just ended and the movie won’t be out till December. I didn’t really like the long romantic gazes, but then that’s also what you would expect of Pattinson’s character from reading the books. I wouldn’t say the book is that well-written, just entertaining. So, they didn’t have all that much to work with as far as good examples of dialogue and good characterization. I heard they used dialogue right out of the book, which is disappointing. A lot of the dialogue doesn’t seem like it would translate from print to screen very well. With that being said, Pattinson is so hot!!!!!! Totally seeing the movie just to see him!!!!! lol
May 5th, 2008 at 6:20 pm
@ madeline
nice job, give your email address to a room full of people that think this looks like shit. if that is your real email address, they’ll probably sign you up for some bestiality porn, that should teach you.
this trailer does look like a cheesy ball of shit. but if anything, its enough for those 13 year olds who liked the covenant movie. this shit looks like something that would be endorsed by the disney chanel or mtv. id say harry potter kicks the shit out of this, by a long shot
May 5th, 2008 at 6:22 pm
@ hunter
doesnt it kinda feel like tourists are visiting the site? with all these damn kids running around commenting on shit?
May 5th, 2008 at 6:28 pm
I haven’t even seen the trailer and I think it sucks.
May 5th, 2008 at 6:51 pm
Send it straight to DVD or to the CW!
May 5th, 2008 at 6:57 pm
Yikes at the drama…
Way to judge a film before it’s even out, folks. I’m not trying to defend it or anything, but seriously, at least wait to bash something until you have something substantial to actually base an opinion on.
Besides, it’s a hyped up, MTV-funded teen movie; are you honestly expecting it to be the greatest piece of cinema ever? It’s not worth having an aneurysm over, folks.
And to the die-hard Twilight fans: BREATHE. Seriously, someone not thinking Pattinson’s the hottest piece if man ever won’t kill you, either. Chill and go re-read the books again until the movie comes out and you can drool.
May 5th, 2008 at 7:17 pm
@ AP
Beautifully put! Everyone just needs to relax. Movies are about escaping, not being bogged down with pointless arguments about fictional creatures.
Anyway, I’ve also seen a trend in visitors on the site. I don’t really mind seeing new people commenting, just as long as it isn’t obscene. No need to get worked up over the internet. :)
May 5th, 2008 at 7:18 pm
EPIC FAIL.
May 5th, 2008 at 7:18 pm
After reading the series because a friend recommended it, I have to say the books were quite good. Not the next Harry Potter, mind you, but very good. I recommend you check the books out. I dont care if you dont watch the film as long as you give the books a chance.
As for the movie, Im apathetic towards it. I will probably go see it to give it my own judgment and compare it to the book. And yes, Im sure Ill be disappointed like I have been in the past (if youve read Eragon and then watched the movie, you will see), but at least I have the books as some kind of consolation.
And you people yelling out ‘emo’ every chance you get arent really helping. Honestly. You are as bad as the 13 year old girls getting ticked because no one likes this film or the actors or the book in general. Basically, grow up :)
Have a great day everyone!
May 5th, 2008 at 7:26 pm
@ big daddy
I feel like my avatar wandered into Hot Topic. Quality Entertainment.
@ bobby peru
56 comments in, we get our first EPIC FAIL. Cheers.
May 5th, 2008 at 7:31 pm
I am and have been an avid Twilight fan for years. I’ve seen Stephanie Meyer, waited in line for hours…all that. HOWEVER that trailer is embarrassing. If this is indicative of the movie, we’ve got problems.
May 5th, 2008 at 7:52 pm
Coming from someone who hasn’t read the books and doesn’t care either way (although I am female) I thought the trailer started off really interesting, but the dialog let it down in the second half. I think it’s not worth judging yet; sometimes first trailers can be a bit hastily put together from whatever finished / post-produced footage they had available.
The obsessive fans are always funny to listen to though :)
May 5th, 2008 at 7:55 pm
You boys are disgusting.
I love these books. I hope that the film becomes a TV series like Buffy.
May 5th, 2008 at 7:57 pm
I’m never gonna eat the corn you twilight weirdos, never.
May 5th, 2008 at 8:00 pm
@ Ali and AP
These comments ARE being judged based on the trailer that Summit Entertainment released. The point of having teasers and trailers is to get people talking about the product. Sorry for all of the Twilight fans that are here to defend this movie to the end, but my opinions are coming from what we’re given, and I don’t like what I’m being shown. The script sounds like nothing special, the effects are C-grade, and the cast is laughable at best.
I don’t have anything against anyone involved, but this is how I’m seeing the set-up. If the companies involved are going to try and target another audience outside of the Twilight fan-base, then the marketing team is definitely going to need to kick it into high gear and really start showing this movie’s strong points (if there are any…)
May 5th, 2008 at 8:09 pm
Why do we need twilight when there is Buffy? I’m pretty sure the books are just a rip off of what happened in the series anyways.
May 5th, 2008 at 8:16 pm
One must remember this is a Teaser Trailer and I think it was put together rather hastily because of all the hype. The director and everyone on the set are all pressured to make this movie great. They don’t want to disappoint. Not to mention they are still filming! I think all they wanted to do was give fans a little taste. The acting probably isn’t top notch, but I’m going to give this a chance. I just think it was really put together fast. A book is always going to be better than the movie. ALWAYS!
May 5th, 2008 at 8:17 pm
@Ch
I totally agree with you, it may end up being an ok movie…but the trailer isn’t even on par with Lost Boys The Tribe…it looks like Buffy light
May 5th, 2008 at 8:31 pm
Remember, it’s only a teaser trailer. To bash a 59 second clip and talk about how horrible the movie is going to be is slightly premature and hasty. I’m personally holding out judgment until I actually sit down in the theater and watch it. That’s the only way to accurately judge a film.
As a twilight fan, this may sound blasphemous but, what if the movie doesn’t live up to the book? Big deal. In my opinion the Harry Potter movies haven’t done the book justice at all yet people still go see them. It’s not the end of the world if twilight doesn’t get a 4/4 stars for me, if I enjoy it, that’s all that matters.
May 5th, 2008 at 9:04 pm
How did you men determine that this movie is going to be garbage with only a 60 second trailer? Come on. You only see three major characters in the movie and they only say a couple lines.
May 5th, 2008 at 9:21 pm
Geez!! What’s with all the negativity DANG!!! I mostly see haters. Personally I love the book and I love the trailer. Where are all my die hard fans this site needs saving…it’s like 99.9% negative. Pretty sad especially because it looks like a lot of people have never read the book, nor have they heard much about the movie. They saw this and started going crazy. Please give it a chance at least. And if you hated the book, hate the fan base, or plan on hating the movie (don’t see how you already hate it if it’s not out) then that’s fine to each his own. Everyone has their own opinions you all have given yours and I’ve given mine: loved the book, plan on loving the movie.
May 5th, 2008 at 9:27 pm
Yeah! I can’t wait for the movie! Some lines are a little cheesy, but I’m still excited for it! Robert looked so much hotter in the trailer than I expected.
May 5th, 2008 at 9:29 pm
Wow!! I think it’s hilarious to hear the guys’ perspectives on this movie specially since every time you go on a site for twilight it is basically saturated with OMG’s and *dies* or whatever else teen girls like to say nowadays. I’ll admit that I’m addicted to the series after a friend introduced me to them. I’m a female college student and I’m not a mom. I do love to read and the books are really well written. Simple and the story is very compelling. However, I am a little nervous about this movie. Nevertheless, I am also excited to see how it will turn out and will go see it. I’m really sorry guys, about the soon to come comments on how “you don’t know anything about Twilight and you should read the books” and blah blah blah. It’s refreshing to hear a different take on the movie and story (both positive and negative) so I don’t mind. I’m really hoping that this movie isn’t crap and I must mention — it is only a teaser trailer and it is still being edited (since they just finished filming). I also heard that it is a low budget movie.
May 5th, 2008 at 9:54 pm
you guys have no idea do you, this movie has everything in, from romance, to action, to suspence. how in the world could you possibly think this movie is going to suck just after watching maybe 45 seconds of film out of 1 1/2 to 2 hours worth, it is pretty low of you to judge something so soon.
May 5th, 2008 at 9:58 pm
IN my opinion, to base a movie on a 58 sec. teaser trailer that isn’t even that actual teaser trailer but a teaser of the teaser trailer is actually pretty stupid. If you’re going to bash a movie just because of a quick 50 second clip that was probably put together real fast because of all the attention Twilight has gotten lately, and label it as “s**t” then don’t even bother. Get your facts staright first and for your information, I AM A 14 YEAR OLD GIRL WHO IS A TWILIGHT OBSESSED FREAK!! So if you have the freekin guts to say a whole bunch of stuff over something that u don’t even what the hell it is about, why don’t you f*****g go read the book and research it then say whatever the freak you want! Not that you don’t have a right to say your opinion but really, don’t just go saying bs over something you don’t even know about.
May 5th, 2008 at 10:02 pm
Ok so all these negative comments are hilarious and ignorant!!! How can you say a movie will suck based solely on a quickly thrown together one minute teaser. Most teaser scenes get cut and as far as I am concerned I thought the acting was fine RP and KS are very talented. Kellan Lutz’s line was a bit weird but I am sure if we were able to see the full scene progress it would be fine. I just can’t stand flames about how a movie is going to suck when you have nothing to base it on but a one min trailer. If you don’t like the trailer fine don’t go see the movie but you can’t say something sucks with out sufficient evidence. K thank you and good night!
May 5th, 2008 at 10:10 pm
who ever says they hate this movie really needs to either A. read the book. OR B. kill yourself and burn in hell forever.
May 5th, 2008 at 10:13 pm
READ THE BOOK THEN COMEBACK TO ME AND SAY ITS GARBAGE.
HATERS ARE LOSERS WHO DONT HAVE A BRAIN.
May 5th, 2008 at 10:23 pm
dude i dont even know what the movie is about and i just finished wathing this teaser trailer and i think its good.
May 5th, 2008 at 10:26 pm
ok i have to admit even though i love the series that teaser kind of sucked. BUT i am willing to give it a chance because a) stephenie meyer the author even said and i quote:
“To conclude, I would like to make a few comments about Rob and Kristen, who are the true heart of this movie. First, they are both amazing actors. Second, they are channeling Edward and Bella like nobody’s business. Third, you might want to bring a paper bag to the movie, because their on-screen chemistry may cause hyperventilation. That is all.”
i trust her opion because she is the author and knows what twilight is suppose to look like and b) i love the series to much to let the movie effect my opion of the book because i have accepted a long time ago that the movie always pales in comparison to the book. c) it is only one minute the rest of the movie could totally rock. also a final reason is also because of another thing the author has said and i quote again
“While watching the playback from a very intense scene with Bella and Edward, the girl next to me literally slid right out of her chair—I think her bones melted. She also may have stopped breathing for a few seconds, too. I know I did”
again because of these comments from the author i feel i should give the movie a chance and if your an intelligent reasonable person you’ll do the same and not judge the ENTIRE movie because of only a SHORT one minute clip
May 5th, 2008 at 10:30 pm
in reading my comment above i feel like a complete idiot because of some of my grammar so ignore the part were i said also twice in one sentence or any other grammar errors i made. thank you
May 5th, 2008 at 10:35 pm
I don’t understand how people who a. haven’t read the book b. know nothing about the film other than a 60 sec. teaser trailer are so vehemently bashing it! I think these people have some underlying issues that they are dealing with, like they heard about the fanbase and are just trying to piss them off. Well, there is no talking to people who choose ignorance over knowledge, look at world history to see how well that worked out. Cut us twilighters some slack: if you don’t like what you see, that’s fine, it’s your choice. Just don’t go bashing other people for liking it. It’s extremely rude and mean. I don’t like Star Trek yet do I knock the fans who do? Absolutely not. So just grow up already, and let us enjoy this, as we have been waiting a long time for it!
May 5th, 2008 at 10:40 pm
DON’T JUDGE SOMETHING U DON’T KNOW BOUT ALL U HATERS OUT THERE GET OVER UR SELVES.
May 5th, 2008 at 10:41 pm
Yeesh. Did anyone read the rules??? It says: “No hate speech allowed. If you must argue, please debate intelligently.” Clearly, none of you guys are intelligent. Twilight is a respectable book and we should all be respectful for it. If you haven’t read the book, don’t start assuming things because of the trailer. Do you honestly think that one minute of footage from the movie will ruin the entire movie? Please rethink your comments.
May 5th, 2008 at 10:47 pm
ATTENTION TWILIGHTERS: /Film is a site about movies, not about books. The comment section for this post is to discuss feelings about the Twilight Teaser Trailer. If people don’t like what they see in those 60 seconds, that is completely fine.
To bring up the argument that “You didn’t read the books so you’re just a Hater or you’re just ignorant” is irrelevant. This is a forum to talk about the teaser trailer. And having read the books is unnecessary for an opinion - positive or negative.
I will begin deleting comments that make such statements. If you would like to defend the movie trailer, please tell us what you think was good about the trailer (and not the book… because Remember, we’re discussing the trailer to the eventual movie, not the books).
May 5th, 2008 at 10:58 pm
judge after 58 seconds? Well, I actually only got though 18 seconds, but I understand the point. I think.
May 5th, 2008 at 11:00 pm
Wow. That was just really lame. Sort of looks like a cross between the blade TV show and gilmore girls. Actually that doesn’t sound too horrible. But the trailer was really crappy. I mean, all that flying around and stuff. It just looks cheesy.
May 5th, 2008 at 11:24 pm
You can’t tell anything about a movie just with a teaser trailer of less than 1 minute. GOD!!! This is insane.
And this happened EXACTLY THE SAME WAY with Harry Potter and now JKR lives in Edinburgh with her husband, Dr Neil Murray, and their three children, has sold 325 million books and earned an estimated £520m.
Word.
May 5th, 2008 at 11:26 pm
The teaser trailer is really cool!
Me as a big fan of Twilight didn’t actually think the teaser trailer will be like it, but whoaaa,,, it’s actually really good!
Well, I’ll have to agree with y’all about the Emett line “She’s not one of us..” He sounds like .. a bear? Or is it because he was actually about to be mauled by a bear when he was saved by Rosalie? LOL just in the book.
Anyway, the official full trailer will be aired in about 3 days.
CAN’T WAIT! HYPERVENTILATE!!
May 6th, 2008 at 3:31 am
even Kyle XY has got better special effects than this movie
May 6th, 2008 at 4:29 am
okay, I am a twilighter and I am honest enough to say this teaser trailer did not cut it for me.
When I watched this trailer I tried viewing it through the eyes of an outsider - anyone who watches this trailer that has not read twilight could perceive it to be a movie about a creepy goth guy with some kind of stalker-like attraction to the main girl Bella. Also, the trailer gives the vibe that the entire movie revolves around Edward. The random outburst by Kellan (”She’s not one of us!”) made me cringe. Perhaps because the tone of the line was so different from the rest of the eerie trailer, it just played off as terrible acting.
So regardless of all this crap, I still have hopes that Twilight will be a decent movie. I think the trailer was just half-assed.
Hardwicke is an excellent director so I have full confidence in her.
Finally, no true Twilighter can leave a post without telling you haters to STFU.

@ Ch
Sorry, that wasn’t what I meant. People are allowed to not like the trailer. I think it’s good for everyone to have their opinions. There have been film trailers on here before that haven’t made me interested in a film - no problem.
I just think that everybody shouldn’t get so worked up about it. Love it, hate it, whatever. Just don’t let your head blow explode, you know?
May 6th, 2008 at 4:51 am
I think the TEASER TRAILER (remember.. is a teaser… it’s suppose that you know what that means even better than us) just want to let the things open (for open mind people, of course) and create some “intrigue” about the movie so the people that’s not related to the book or the entire footage, covered by the most important media in the internet, want to know something more… that is what’s MARKETING is about.
Who is he? WHAT IS HE? (Gorgeous?)
Why is she so concerned for his age?
What does he mean with being seventeen for “a while”?
What does the pale boy means about she is not one of “them”?
What has he done to Bambi?????
Why should be Bella afraid of him?
What is he? Superman? Spiderman? He stoped a Van with his hand!
I think that this teaser trailer made exactly what Summit wanted. Create a debate… a buzz… and … publicity. Congratulations Summit… and THANK YOU!!!!
May 6th, 2008 at 4:57 am
Loved it! It was simple—beautiful! Definitely a ‘teaser’ as I was left wanting so much more. I think I watched it 30 times at least.
Oh–I see that now the fans must post their credentials in order to not have their opinion blown off. That is so sad! But–ok:
I’ve read all the books multiple times.
I’m a 35 year old science teacher.
All my adult friends (mothers, singles, writers, guys and gals…) love the books and are extremely excited about the film.
May 6th, 2008 at 5:23 am
Chill people. Everyone has their opinions about the film and no-one can judge it until it opens. Also whoever said “didn’t watch the trailer but it sucks” wow i really value your opinion, you know i think i may have to believe every word you say because i’m a moron who can’t think for herself. /end sarcasm
At least have the balls to watch it before you trash it. *rolls eyes*
Also Edward is not “emo” whoever said that. god you people and your labels.
Anywho I liked the trailer a lot and since it was a teaser you only got a small portion, it didn’t go into details or anything like that. Kristen and Rob have great “eye acting” (as i call it), they don’t have to speak they can just communicate through their eyes and that look he gives her after the van stop WOW!.
I cannot wait for this movie, loved the books too but honestly guys all this bashing isn’t healthy. You have your opinions and we have ours. I don’t like some of the popular films but i don’t go around bashing them, at least explain why you don’t like them, give us some reason to think you have some intelligence to make an informed decision.
Also fyi, i’m twenty and i don’t see how age is relevant here. As the author herself once said “there are no children’s or adult’s books, there are only good books and bad books. Everyone should enjoy reading the good ones”
Peace out.
May 6th, 2008 at 5:24 am
Also seriously laughed at barb’s “bambi” comment. I was thinking that too ^_^
May 6th, 2008 at 5:56 am
For being a teaser trailer made before the film was even finished it looks pretty amazing to me. Love the books, love the actors..love everything.
May 6th, 2008 at 5:59 am
slash film, why haven’t you been deleting all the nasty crap comments? these sons of laurent/victoria obviously aren’t following the rules. prolly can’t even read the rules. shame.
May 6th, 2008 at 6:00 am
LOL
Twilight!..
LOL!!!
oh man, I wish I was 14yo so I could tell my 14yo mates who actually like this how much it sucks.
May 6th, 2008 at 6:09 am
Okay, you may not admit that the movie sucks, but you have to admit that the movie’s marketing department/trailer development department really, really sucks.
May 6th, 2008 at 6:13 am
I have to agree with many of the comments listed here: it looks like pop.
Everything about it looks cheap and crappy so far, even the behind the scene reel I saw at Comic Con…. i guess it will still make a lot of cash since it has a huge fan base, though.
May 6th, 2008 at 6:14 am
opps, I meant to saw it looks like poop, not pop…
May 6th, 2008 at 6:15 am
wrong again, meant to say oops, not opps (very tired this AM)
May 6th, 2008 at 6:17 am
The trailer looks AWESOME! Robert’s facial expressions are amazing and he dazzles through the screen. The deer hunting is breathe taking and December cannot come soon enough.
May 6th, 2008 at 6:20 am
Love the books and looking forward to the movie! I’m sure this movie’s not for everyone. But if you like romance rather than cheap sex and characters with some depth and baggage more than 2-D placeholders, give this movie a chance. The books were more than worth the time to read, and I’m sure the movie will be worth the time too.
May 6th, 2008 at 6:36 am
Wow…you honestly just said that.
May 6th, 2008 at 6:39 am
I personally loved the books and cannot wait till the fourth book in the series to come out. However, way back when, when MTV was optioning the film, I was kind of a skeptic. I’m a believer in leaving well enough alone…and lets face it…Hollywood is known to massacre movies that were at first great books.
So the teaser trailer looks kind of cheesy. And I can totally understand how it would look like crap from someone who hasn’t been in the fandom. But lets try to remember that it’s just a teaser. Maybe future trailers will look more interesting and maybe the movie will be great, we never know. just because the trailer looks horrible/great does not necessarily mean the movie will be the same way.
Either way, I’m still going to go see the movie because I’m a huge fan. On and just to let everyone know…not all Twilight fans are raving pre-teen girls. I’m 20. :)
May 6th, 2008 at 6:49 am
okayy so what i dont get here is why ALL of you seem to hate it when pretty much everywhere else the comments are 99% positive. is this the site where quentin tarentino fans go or what?
i think its okay for you to hate it when youve read the book and actually looked at the stuff from a neutral point of view and THEN made zp your mind, but to me it just seems like you guys are totally prejudiced.
and saying that kristen stewart cant act is sort of wierd..
May 6th, 2008 at 6:56 am
No, it’s just that since Blade has to go away for three years, we have to band together to make sure that Deacon Frost or Drake doesn’t try to take over the world using these . . . ubber hawt (or whatever you kids are saying these days) things as their pawns.
May 6th, 2008 at 7:07 am
The thing is that movies are all relitive. What you may like might not be what I like. people are entitled to their own opinions, however, you should not go saying something is terrible or great based on a trailer. if that were the case, think of all the terrible movies that would get awards because the trailer was awesome. wait until the movie comes out. then we can judge. and believe me…if the movie sucks after i see it, i’ll be one of the first to admit that.
May 6th, 2008 at 7:17 am
If you notice, it’s mostly all guys here who bash twilight. It’s really easy to see why they do it. First, they are afraid they are going to lose their girls/wives to the twilight frenzy so that makes it an automatically bad movie. Second, they want attention. It became quite clear with the last article that they would get attention if they bashed anything to do with twilight. So all you twilighters are feeding into what they want. Lastly, most men won’t take the time to read anything other than a comic book or the TV guide so they won’t ever know what all the hype is about.
Before you all start to bash me, let me say that if you are allowed to make such general assumptions about twilight fans, then certainly I am able to make such assumptions about the men that bash them. Also, if you read the comment rules, it states, “If you must argue, please debate intelligently.” I haven’t seen an intelligent bash of Twilight yet.
Bashing is your right and I LOVE that you continue to do it because it only brings that much more attention to Twilight!
May 6th, 2008 at 7:24 am
like most teaser trailers that i’ve seen, this one is for the fans of the books. it shows scenes that would only mean something to the people that have read the book twilight and maybe that’s why people who haven’t don’t get it. the rush to give us rabid fans a taste of what the movie is going to look and feel like might have been to quick, they just wrapped principal shooting last week i believe, so yeah the quality is just not going to be there. maybe it wasn’t the best idea to throw it out there so quickly, but as a fan of the books i have to say it really got me even more excited for the movie.
May 6th, 2008 at 7:27 am
First of all, I’d like to say that I think it’s sad that many of you feel the need to comment on how stupid this movie looks. If I don’t like something, I move one with my life. I don’t stick around and waste my time bashing it. You’re all just feeding the hype and showing passion about the movie. It’s not the same passion fans show but it builds the movie’s buzz all the same.
I guess I don’t know much about all of this but I think the trailer was pretty good considering they just finished filming and have a lot of crap to sort through to get this much done. The “she’s not one of us” line bothers me a bit; however, though that character is important, he’s definitely not one of the most important ones.
Also, this clip is about a minute long which doesn’t exactly leave room for thoroughly enjoyable dialogue-filled scenes. That’s not the purpose of a teaser trailer anyway. The basic goal here is to make people wonder what this guy is and what the major conflict is. Why is she different, why should she be scared, and why do they nearly kiss despite all of this?
No, I am not a teenage girl, but I am a fan of the books and a potential fan of this movie. I was skeptical upon reading the books and I hold a level of skepticism regarding the movie. That being said, I’m still excited to see it. Let’s be honest with ourselves… How many crappy movies have great trailers and vice versa??
By the way, I read some stupid comment saying people way back when got Star Wars and we get this crap. One, a good number of people thought that movie would blow. Two, if the movie was new and we saw the trailer for it today, I wonder what we would actually think. A lot of people like the movie for the simple fact that it’s a classic. I love Star Wars (4-6 anyway) but let’s be honest… It doesn’t have the best acting I’ve ever seen in a movie. I’m not saying Twilight and Star Wars are alike in any way. Star Wars is just an extreme example of a good movie with what many people thought was a sucky trailer.
The simple fact is that none of us have seen the movie; and so, none of us can say that it will be fantastic or that it will suck.
May 6th, 2008 at 7:49 am
I think people who haven’t read the book don’t know what all the excitement is about. I freaked when I watched the trailer because the words that I had read were finally coming to life. Its so exciting.
Plus I think they did a great job on casting. Robert is perfect for Edward! He’s got that creepy yet sexy vibe to him. I loved the teaser trailer!!! Of course there is going to be hate…..I think mainly from people who haven’t read the book..and guys who feel inadequate next to Edward Cullen haha
May 6th, 2008 at 7:53 am
Meh, if all you haters don’t see it that just means less assholes in the cinema XD
May 6th, 2008 at 7:55 am
@ Everyone who is saying we’re haters:
Sorry, some of us enjoy great movies and are critics, but, welcome to the world of movie news and reviews its how it works if we don’t like something we make it clear. If you don’t like that, go read your little girly books and have a juice box.
May 6th, 2008 at 7:59 am
@ Allynd Dudnikov
High five for the juice box throwback comment haven’t thought of those in years (and no you don’t get a dollar this time).
May 6th, 2008 at 8:02 am
OMYHECK WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE??!?!??!?!?!??? the trailer was incredible even though it was so short. i can’t WAIT for the next trailer (if there will be one). this movie is going to RULE because they are getting everything so dang perfect!! im not a huge edward fan, surprise surprise, but i think he’s gorgeous, and emmett is even MORE so!! so PLEASE stop dissing the actors, because they are incredible. kristen sterwart is the best actress of her age that I have ever seen. robert pattinson was great in harry potter, and im sure he will be in twilight as well.
UGH the more of these comments i see the more angry i get!! so you’ve seen a grand total of about THIRTY SECONDS of the movie. you CAN’T judge it so harshly yet. i think it will rock, and you all are just jealous that you can’t act as well as these actors do. i’d like to see YOU do a better job!! this movie will rock you down and roll you over.
~~a true twilighter
May 6th, 2008 at 8:06 am
i hope all that wasn’t considered “hate speech.” i don’t hate any of you all and i know you have your own opinions, but you need to give it more of a chance than a thirty second trailer.
May 6th, 2008 at 8:09 am
Lol.
That’s okay, you’re entitled to your opinions.
Mine is: I can’t wait for this film, the book was awesome, and now I wanna see it in the cinema.
May 6th, 2008 at 8:09 am
were glad you cleared that up because were real sensitive around here and would have reported you to Peter and he’s real mean and would have punished you by making you not watch twilight GASP! so watch your self buddy or no covenant 2 for you
May 6th, 2008 at 8:35 am
im a fan of the books, and a fan of the film so far… i loved the raw footage.
(don’t judge the film on the trailer, thats pretty closed minded of you people)
if you havent seen the other footage, check that out before you “critisise” it, i mean, its still in filming, give it a chance! i’m not saying its going to be perfect…no-one can say that until they’ve seen the finished project…just calm it down guys!
May 6th, 2008 at 8:51 am
The “boys” doth protest too much methinks.
May 6th, 2008 at 9:11 am
so, after reading these comments, im reminded of my high school girlfriend who was a freaking pyscho. im also reminded a bit of myself when i defended cloverfield back in the hayday of its viral. i never realized how much i resembled a 14 year old girl.
but to get to my point, which i have said before on other pages, a trailer and a teaser is what we judge movies by. it is the sales pitch that a studio has to sell a movie. if it sucks, then the movie can safely be judged as a shite movie. does that sound fair? no maybe not, but thats why you dont make a shit teaser. They may have some die hard fans, but even my friend is a die hard fan and she thought this teaser looked like ass. they cant rely on the fans to make it succesful, they have to sell it to a room full of guys like me. those are pretty lofty goals, but they have to shoot high, not low, to get a good result. (not that im anything special, but i know what a good movie looks like)
my final opinion, this teaser was an attempt, but the acting and dialogue was bad, the jumping effect didnt make a lot of sense (reminded me of a werewolf movie instead, especially with the deer kill) and it looks super cheesy. my friend that likes these books is pretty immature, and this teaser looks like it was aiming directly at her maturity level. maybe if they have them break out in song and dance, and a cameo by hannah montana, they have a chance.
May 6th, 2008 at 9:15 am
good one, floppy, you smart ass
May 6th, 2008 at 9:39 am
OK, so I’m a HUGE fan of the books, but this trailer… I’m just not that impressed. Personally, I don’t like Robert for the part (just my opinion… I know a lot of people do) so it’s already like Edward is missing from the movie. I’d already accepted that the movie would be totally different from the book (as the teaser exemplifies–there’s only one scene in there that’s truly straight from the book) but I thought from the behind the scenes footage that I might enjoy it as something seperate. However, this just looks kind of boring/weird. Kristen Stewart’s acting doesn’t seem super passionate, Robert Pattinson’s American accent sounds absurd to me, and I’m completetly weirded out by the flying/jumping thing. So basically, I’m not that impressed.
May 6th, 2008 at 10:29 am
it looks like someone alerted some Twilight fansite of the negative comments about the trailer….did anyone else notice the massive flood of fan comments?
May 6th, 2008 at 10:31 am
It seems as if the people (GUYS) who are writing these comments are just jealous because Edward Cullen gets more play than them anyday…
May 6th, 2008 at 10:34 am
PS- Twilight is gonna kick some ass in December!!!!!!!
May 6th, 2008 at 10:39 am
i love the books
TWILIGHT ROCKS
the movie will be awesome!
May 6th, 2008 at 10:41 am
@Floppy- if you hate the trailer- fine. if you wanna make a comment about it, thats fine too. but if you hate it soo much, why bother writing like 5 comments???
May 6th, 2008 at 10:48 am
@ vici
cuz its our GOD GIVEN RIGHT. thats right, i said GOD, phuck teen vampires, no one cares what teens think, as long as they spend their parents money
May 6th, 2008 at 10:58 am
No offense to all the Twilight fans but sometimes books or adaptations don’t carry well onto film. Either it being the actors or director’s being incapable to adapt the material properly. Most of the people bashing the trailer are mostly hardcore “movie” fans. Who spend most of their time watching good and well made films. If someone notices and points out lets say bad acting or bad special effects. They should voice their opinions. Don’t forget a trailer is supposed to convey a feel of the film in a short time. People have every right to judge what they see. Considering the studio expects people to be excited, just because it has the Twilight name attached. They shouldn’t release something really that isn’t impressive at all.
I watched the behind the scenes of “Twilight” and during production they were talking about sequels. I have no idea why anyone who take that big of risk, after the Golden Compass. They also came out with big talk about competing with the Harry Potter films. While the studio just lost a lot of money. I’m not a fan of Harry Potter and I’ve never read the books, and never will. Yet I do have to respect how well made the films are. Catherine Hardwicke who is known for smaller films, does seems a bit pretentious. This may be a love story but this also isn’t Titanic. I’ve watched her films and some were watchable. Lords of Dogstown was somewhat ok, considering it was a skateboard movie set when nobody cared about it. But I felt Thirteen was way over dramatized and that could play into this movie. It was so badly overacted that you just wanted the characters to really shut up. If this seems to be Hardwicke’s casting style with casting unknown film actors/actresses, fans are going to be disappointed.
May 6th, 2008 at 11:23 am
Oh sweet heavens! The comments have been highly
entertaining. I respect the passion of you fans, but
many of you need to learn a little diplomacy.
My first reaction watching the teaser trailer –”You have to be
kidding me that was horrible!”
Before posting this I decided to watch it again and I still don’t see much promise. The acting is atrocious and I seriously hope the movie proves it has more legs than what we have seen so far.
Established fan base alone will not make this movie a hit, no matter
what you may believe. The studios want people who HAVENT read
the book to want to see this movie too. THAT is what will make
this movie a hit.
Yes, this is a teaser trailer and there is a lot of time to polish up
the film and give the audiences something to be interested in, but as of right now my interest isn’t there.
At the moment I’m more interested in checking out the book so I can possibly see what all the hype is about and judge if it’s an okay novel for my own daughter to read. I can appreciate a whimsical novel geared towards the fantasies of a young reader; I was once such a reader.
May 6th, 2008 at 11:42 am
i just have to say that all of you people who are being serioulsy rude about umm, lets see everything, you have no idea what your talking about so just stop putting everything down, i mean its a teaser trailer, things still need to be done and fixed up, and just because you probably couldnt even understand the first chapter of the book doesnt mean you need to be rude about everything. so you seriously need to grow up, people actually like this book dont ruin it for them because you feel like being mean.
and besides i agree with ann, you guys are all jealous so get over it, this movie is going to be so good.
May 6th, 2008 at 11:57 am
I actually know several adults (like myself) who love the Twilight series and are very excited about the upcoming movie.
Where not all teenage girls…
CANâ€T WAIT FOR THE MOVIE! IT LOOKS GREAT!
May 6th, 2008 at 12:04 pm
if you are older than 16 and are reading harry potter, or this twilight thing, then you should be ashamed of yourself, and get a grip. any adult enjoying a romance novel about kids in highschool is a phucking pedo, and should check themselves in before this problem escalates further. im not one to be a grammar police, but ‘where not all teenage girls’?
May 6th, 2008 at 12:17 pm
You know I’m not seeing how reading the books has anything to do with the clip being awful. I mean not everyone read the Ironman comics, yet that had an awesome trailer (and clips before it).
The people who haven’t read the books shouldn’t need to read the books to understand the brillance of this movie (as most of you keep saying). The advertising team should put together a clip/trailer that makes all parties interested, not a selective demographic that has knowledge of the books.
Also fighting that the movie is going to be awesome just cause you like the series, is well pretty stupid. We all know hollywood screws over book adaptations. How do you know the movie is going to be great? The books may be great, but the movie may be awful even by your standards.
May 6th, 2008 at 12:43 pm
Wow, this has all been highly entertaining.
As a fan of any book, of course, you want to see the movie version do well but really…how many great, accurate, adaptations have you seen? I honestly wanted Eragon to rock but it fell way short of “my” expectations. On the other hand I hadn’t read the Golden Compass and was pleasantly surprised by the movie, even though it seems the book fans didn’t really like it.
The point being that trailers are supposed to have “universal appeal” meaning that it should appease book fans while at the same time sparking the interest of nonbelievers. I can see why other people didn’t find this teaser all that tempting. I also agree that a minute cannot define a movie but they really could’ve done a lot better with it. I blame the trailer people for that, not the actors, because regardless of the fact that they can or cannot act the publicity people for this movie should be doing anything and everything to make them and the movie look their best and they didn’t. Things to love and things to hate. Hopefully the next trailer is truer to the film.
Thanks to Christoper Marc for his comment though. These are comments from hardcore “movie” fans being bashed by hardcore “book” fans. I pride myself on being both and as much as I love Twilight come December you won’t find me defending it (the movie) if it doesn’t meet standard. But really people, if the movie doesn’t end up being everything we thought it would be it doesn’t take anything away from the book. That being said I am rooting for it and hope that it ends up doing well enough that those who haven’t heard of the series will look into it :)
May 6th, 2008 at 12:52 pm
WOW im so excited for this movie! I cant wait to see it
I LOVE EDWARD
