Production began earlier today on Terminator 4, and the final casting announcements are beginning to hit the wire. The newest addition to the cast is rapper Common, who has signed on to co-star as a freedom fighter and member of John Connor’s (Christian Bale) inner circle.
Let’s tae a look at the rest of the announced line-up: Sam Worthington (Avatar) is also on board the project as Marcus, a central figure in the planned three-picture arc. Anton Yelchin is Connor’s friend and future father Kyle Reese. Josh Brolin has been rumored to play the Terminator of the fourth film, but this has not yet been confirmed. Moon Bloodgood has also been rumored to be involved in the project. McG is directing from script by John D. Brancato & Michael Ferris and Paul Haggis.
Common has appeared in Smokin’ Aces, American Gangster, Street Kings and the upcoming comic book adaptation Wanted. The rapper turned actor was also scheduled to play the Green Lantern in Warner Bros’ now defunct Justice LEague movie.
Terminator 4 is scheduled to hit theaters on May 22nd 2009.

the words “Common cast” are such a deal breaker for any upcoming genre movie, unless they’re followed by “in Twilight sequel.” somebody make a shirt that says “Common cast in…” in black, bold sans serif with his head above it, somewhat tiny. i’ll buy two.

i tried to keep my chin up last night with the pg-13 thing, but this is enough for me. not even bale & haggis can save this mess. i’d love to see a skewering paraody/movie about the assholes who greelight pieces of shit like this - along with all the goddamn remakes & spike jonze castration.
they had me at McG, and i knew this would be a sad end to a great franchise - oh, and how the fuck a grown man can refer to himself in this manner is beyond me. my dad would very calmly stand, kick me in the balls, and disown me if i came home one day and said, “by the way pops, ya’ll gotta start calling me McG…”

I love Common. One of the most original and refreshing hip hop artists. All of you rushing to judge clearly don’t have a grasp on this man’s art. I’m pleased he’s going to translate his charisma to the big screen - too bad it’s going to be in TG-13.

yes, he’s an amazing rapper - but we’re talking about his acting, not the soundtrack. i think people are upset because we’ve seen him act (in quite a few films now), and he’s a shitty actor, now coupled with a shitty director, in a film we all were hoping would kick ass.

Total Shit. They should have just left it alone after Terminator 2. Way to take a cool and interesting property and run it into the damned ground. Just like everything else that was cool once. I for one am gonna skip this installment and the next however many direct to DVD releases they can squeeze out of it before it finally dies.

All I have to say is that Common must have a heck of an agent because he’s constantly getting good roles though he doesn’t appear to be that great of an actor. I’ve also already convinced myself that T4 will be a very different beast than the Terminator movies I grew up on. They are including rappers in the cast and have anounced PG-13 rating. Even as a hip hop blogger I have to say “no thanks”. Give me the blood and gore and keep the kiddies out.
