Many of you probably saw the new trailer for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull in front of Iron Man, judging from Tony Stark’s boffo weekend numbers, and now it’s online. The coolest reveal here is that the plot’s plush Amazonian temple is said to be guarded by the undead, so on top of the rumored alien subplot, it appears Indy IV will be fencing off with that ambiguous X Files sequel for air conditioned supernatural kicks.
We also gleam Shia LaBeouf’s Mutt Williams pulling a young biker Brando, Ford finally looking comfortable and in grizzled top form, an atomic-age countdown, and lots of nicely edited explosions and action. And as Peter and I have discussed, nobody has any idea how this blockbuster’s story will play and pan out, which is aces. With the exception of too much Boratian camp in Cate Blanchett’s accent, yes, I’d say this trailer kicks ass. Eighteen days and counting, that’s a welcome relief, as George Lucas’s constant meh’ing was sucking up my anticipation like a soggy strawberry at the bottom of a colossal daiquiri.
You can also watch the new Indiana Jones 4 trailer in High Definition on IndianaJones.com. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull opens on May 22nd, and premieres at Cannes on May 18th.
Discuss: What do you think of the new trailer for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull?

Might be excused for its unwitty, unfunny awful socko-ness if it had been put together by Harvard Lampoon seniors.

This trailer was PHENOMENAL! Seriously, now that Iron Man and Speed Racer are out of my way, Indiana Jones 4 has jumped to the VERY top of my most anticipated list with this trailer. Downright amazing!! I can’t wait - I love Indiana Jones!

A truly great trailer. Didn’t give too much away but gave enough to satisfy. Now I must attempt to not watch the trailer again and save myself for May 22…

I think this will get rid of any fleating doubt that this film will accomplish any less then amaze. It’s going to be incredible.
April 30th, 2008 at 12:47 am
YES!! That was amazing. I have a feeling this will be an excellent return to the series. Awesome trailer. Better humor than previous trailers and more to come! And the skull is the key to a weapon or power source? Perhaps a buried ship??? Awesome dude.

Whoa! I’ve seen this trailer earlier when I saw Iron Man… Yes, it is being shown right now in the Phil! LOL! Anyways, this new trailer is better than the previous ones. Oh, Cate Blanchett…

I think I just cried a little. Wow, what a relief after the first trailer. Whoah. There’s the Indy humor, irreverence, daring, experience, background story on the Maguffin…
I’m giddy as a school boy.

Doesn’t really show too much more than the teaser, which is a good thing considering trailers tend to show way too much, but it doesn’t really give you that “full” trailer feel…still feels like a teaser. We will probably see more TV spots or maybe another trailer here before it is released….

@gah: Nice one.
Meh, didn’t get to see it, and I can’t be bothered googling it - it’ll be back here soon enough :-D

the new trailer is amazing. can`t wait to see it in high definition. the movie`s going to rock. the first three indiana jones movies are classics. 1 of my 4 most anticipated movies this year, the other 3 being the dark knight, harry potter and the quantum of solace.

I love the punch sound effects, he does a right backhand followed immediately by a left hook, its epic.
Also love the part where he jumps between the vehicles,

I’ll be honest. I don’t like it. Preferred the teaser. The music in the trailer wasn’t very prominent either. Still looking forward to it though

indy’s one of the coolest mutherf-ing characters ever created.

@ Mark : “I’m giddy as a school boy.” - spoken like a true fan!
Man, I can’t wait for this movie. Harrison’s still the best!
May 3rd, 2008 at 2:18 pm
That shot of Shia screaming/over acting through the cage bars was the funniest thing I’ve ever seen. I want to put it on a loop and use it as my screensaver.
May 3rd, 2008 at 2:46 pm
It’s nice to see a trailer that doesn’t give too much away. I still have no idea what’ll happen in this movie. I have my skepticism, but I think it’ll be a fun movie nonetheless.
May 3rd, 2008 at 3:10 pm
Fantastic trailer. My only complaint was that the Spielberg-stated focus on practical effects seems to have given way to substantial quantities of CGI in this trailer. I’m probably going to love the movie, but I truly hope they give more weight to practicals.
May 3rd, 2008 at 5:24 pm
Then it sounds like the perfect trailer for you Larry.
May 3rd, 2008 at 5:49 pm
always been an Indy fan…I love that they made the sidekick a biker…missed the mark on the bike though…that is NOT a 1957 HD…more like a 2000 or later…everybody goofs up now and then….still looks like a winner to me…
May 3rd, 2008 at 6:09 pm
Much greater than the initial trailers which didn’t even show you anything. It still seems like the whole movie is going to be a surprise though.
Which marketing is better?: Iron Man or Indiana Jones?
May 3rd, 2008 at 6:29 pm
Has anyone been to the Hasbro Indy toy site? There is some spoilers on there, which has actually got me pretty excited about the film.
May 3rd, 2008 at 7:52 pm
@ cornholio - so you’re fine with the’ living dead’ and ‘aliens’, but an anachronistic bike spoils the magic for you?
I see. :)
May 3rd, 2008 at 8:16 pm
Sadly, judging by the trailers………Indy, the greatest action hero ever, will be leaving the screen and our hearts via a space ship. Mark my words….last frame will have Jones walking up an alien’s ship door……..onto greater adventures!
May 4th, 2008 at 1:59 am
yay this looks great. will it be structurally the same as raiders i wonder.. big opening - school scene - find the girl - find the skull - truck chase - baddies get fried
May 6th, 2008 at 4:43 pm
Was looking forward to this too much but after seeing the trailier I am in!!!
Trailer had the feeling of the original and the feel of the 30’s shorts that Speilberg based the series on…cant wait!!!!
