Give credit to M. Night for trying to produce intelligent horror/scare films. Frankly, I have grown so weary of the big budget flicks that seem to think that cursing and car crashes constitute plot. Look, I love a good summer action film as much as anyone. I just want to see some thought given to plot and character. Yes, it can be done. Jaws, Aliens, Indiana Jones, Die Hard, Terminator, Desperado, are just a handful of great action films that delivered on energy, humor and interesting characters. I welcome the M. Night films.

M. Night doesn't seem to understand that his movies don't function as good cinema without some form of an ending.

I'm not saying everything needs to be neatly wrapped up for me in the end (see: The Invasion, with Nic Kidman...ugh), but a little closure isn't too hard to ask for, is it?

Even if you think this movie might be good or might be bad, I think that people that have never heard of Night will end up seeing it just to find out what the hell is making people off themselves. And the rest of us will be looking for that and the inevitable 'twist'.

I saw this with Iron Man, and while the first trailer looked rather interesting, the over-use of dramatic cutting out and "thumping" made...a good portion of the audience actually *laugh* during the trailer. The entire run felt too much like "Mark Wahlberg vs. Wind."

In that respect, I entertained. (The original trailer still has me wanting to see the movie)

Good, bad, or whatever, Shyamalan at least attempts to deliver stories that are original. For that reason alone, I defend what he does in an era of sequels and remakes. One thing that he always does well, is write some memorable scenes that can hold a lot of impact ( the weight lifting scene from Unbreakable, the dinner scene from Signs, etc.).

If people viewed his films from the perspective of family relationships going through extraordinary circumstances, as opposed to "something that is supposed to shock or be scary," I think that his films would be viewed with a little more positive expectation.

Even so, I think Spielberg did well with his take on a societal panic in War of the Worlds - intense situations and high emotion. Even the scene with the river of dead people made those trailers. I'm not seeing this sort of intensity in the Shyamalan trailer. Perhaps, the film is pretty low key, but that is a tough Summer sell.

No matter what, we are likely guaranteed another excellent film score from James Newton Howard. That is always the bonus of a MNS film.

I can't believe what I'm hearing: there are people who enjoyed Lady in the Water?

Honestly, every M.Night trailer so far has piqued my interest, but this movie makes me feel "meh". I guess you can say it ain't happening for me. Hyuk!

I'm with you two. I loved Lady in the Water.

Can't wait for the Happening, either. This trailer is much better than the international one.

That's a great trailer. I thought the international one was good, but this one's really good. I do think, at least the younger audiences, will probably not check this one out. Scary movies have tended to go the way of Hostel and torture porn for teens nowadays, but I'm psyched about this one.

I think Shyamalan redeemed himself a bit with Lady in the Water. Yes, I just said that.

It'll be an interesting watch in the very least.

I have to admit to feeling pretty blah about this, not because of Night, or anything else, other than the complete and total lack of a "wow" factor. So far at least all we have to go on is people looking confused, wondering and fearful... that isn't enough. Heck, I get enough of that at work.
