At the Hollywood premiere of Iron Man, Viacom/CBS Executive Chairman Sumner Redstone and Paramount Pictures CEO Brad Grey told Entertainment Tonight that if the movie does as well as expected, Paramount will greenlight a sequel for the same week in 2010. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader already holds claim to the “first weekend of the summer” (May 7, 2010), but Iron Man 2 could easily open a week earlier on Friday, April 30th 2010 if all goes well.
Also Downey’s trainer, Brad Bose, told IESB that he starts training with Downey just after this final premiere in Los Angeles, stating that he will have Downey ready to wear the suit again in just 5 months. Sounds to me like the contracts are all but signed, and everyone is ready to go.
The studio is telling people they would be happy with anything higher than $70 million. /Film Box Office Analyst Steve Mason is predicting $102 million for Thursday through Sunday. So unless something goes terribly wrong at the box office this weekend, expect Iron Man 2 to go into production in early 2009.

Oldest news ever, dont forget about Iron Man 3
May 1st, 2008 at 2:46 pm
Now I have to live until at least 2010!
May 1st, 2008 at 4:29 pm
All I care about is if the trailer for the sequel to The Dark Knight is going to be in front of Iron Man 2. Has this been confirmed or not?
May 1st, 2008 at 10:04 pm
Any word on what TWO villains will make Iron Man 3 the worst of the Iron Man trilogy?
May 1st, 2008 at 10:41 pm
Sounds good to me! Saw Iron Man and loved it.
May 1st, 2008 at 11:29 pm
Wait… Was the only one who stayed after the credits?
No Iron Man 2; it’s Jon Favreau presents: The Avengers.
May 2nd, 2008 at 12:40 am
@Ashdraven
I just got back…i’d say the majority of the theatre stayed till the Fury scene. And are you saying Favreau is going the John Carpenter route?
By the way…it’ll be Iron Man 2.
May 2nd, 2008 at 9:54 am
um sorry to burst yer bubbles… they plugged both Ironman 2 (next time baby) and the Avengers (My name is Nick Fury)… Not to mention the cameo’s in the Hulk.
May 2nd, 2008 at 11:22 am
yes…the new dark knight trailer IS in front of iron man. i saw it last night (it was ****ing awesome!!!). and they did plug both IM2 and avengers as someone noted previously. but i would be shocked if IM2 was put on hold for avengers when marvel already knows (or will know after the weekend) how bankable IM really is.
May 2nd, 2008 at 12:14 pm
All right, now that I’m not drinking and a little more coherent than my above post….
I got to thinking last night. How cool would a Nick Fury cameo after the Hulk credits be. And we just have Nick Fury recruiting Marvel heroes for the next few years at the end of Marvel films for the Avengers. Then 2012 after Iron Man 2 and several other Marvel films we get The Avengers movie.
May 3rd, 2008 at 2:08 pm
I think Iron Man 2 will be made alongside the Avengers. Oh and by the way who do you think should be the villain for IM2. I’m hoping for the Black widow and Hawkeye in 2 and a big build up for the Mandarin in 3. For the Avengers Kang and Ultron. I wonder who will play Captain America.
May 3rd, 2008 at 2:31 pm
what will the bad guy be for iorn man 2 ?
May 3rd, 2008 at 2:32 pm
make another iorn man
May 3rd, 2008 at 4:34 pm
Iron man was great and I would look forward to a sequel. Sure as hell better than majority super hero flicks!
May 3rd, 2008 at 7:48 pm
Does any body realize that Terrence howard is going to be War machine???
May 3rd, 2008 at 8:35 pm
ya i kept waiting for him to suit up, but i realized it wont be until Iron Man 2 when he looked at the silver suit and said “next time, baby”..
May 3rd, 2008 at 9:02 pm
apparently marvel wants HHH to be captain america but all the producers and directors dont cuz he is not a real actor…
…to whoever was wondering about captain america in the avengers
May 4th, 2008 at 2:25 pm
More then likely they will be introducing War Machine in a second Iron Man, being the little hint as Rhoads looked at the second suite before jumping in the Audi.
May 5th, 2008 at 12:31 am
If The Rock wasn’t so popular and lame, he would make a great Cap, I saw Iron Man and I liked it, but wasn’t completely blown away…the villian was a little lame. either way, i think they should hold off on the avengers movie til they make Thor, Cap, and another movie that introduces Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch,Ant Man, Wasp, etc. It would be hard to put all these characters together without at least a little background. X3 did a good job of integrating new characters, but we never really got to know them like comic readers would. These single character comic book flicks are making some serious scratch…as long as they can take their time and really develop these characters with good movies,we will all spend the time and $ to see them. lets not race so quickly into an avengers or justice league movie, these solo movies are finally being done right and we will all go in droves to see them, is it so wrong to ask for a true Avengers or JLA?
May 6th, 2008 at 3:17 pm
ok, war machine will definetly be in IM2. i have done some reserch and John F. (director) has stated that the topic of IH2 will be tony’s strugle with alcoholsim. and as all of us hardcore iron man fans know. Rhodes takes over and becomes war machine to cover Tony until tony gets beter. so War machine will definetly be in IH2. Marvel has also announced that they are in production of a thor movie, a captain america movie, and a ant man movie. and please people, stop talking about hawkeye and scarlet whitch. they will not be in the avengers movie. marvel will only use the founders of the avengers. im not suprised that marvel isnt following the comic books by puting captain america in it. yes, cap has been the leader of the avengers for a long time but the true founders of the avengers are. hulk, iron man, thor, ant man, and wasp. cap didnt join until the 4th issue of the books, but cap still plays a very important role in the avengers. Marvel will most likely put wasp in there and just not give her a seperate movie.

hi :]
May 7th, 2008 at 10:02 am
im sorry but the news that Terrance Howard will be Ironman?
That stinks,Stark’s genius is what made fans
like the film ,if you kill him off ,it will be horrid!
and Terrance Howard????????? No way, thats horrible!
May 7th, 2008 at 10:04 am
There was nothing in the film or nothing they could add
to make me believe Rhodes or (Howard) could be and
take over as Ironman,Starks was the genius,if the comics
were written like this ,its bad never the less & should not
be put up on the screen!

Hello! Да, фильмец конечно чудеÑненький! С нетерпением буду ждать продолжение Железного человека в 2010 году!
May 12th, 2008 at 12:52 am
Spider-man should team up with Iron Man in IM2.
May 12th, 2008 at 12:55 am
The movie Iron Man dosen’t have Iron Woman does it?? So in Iron Man 2 there should be Iron Woman
May 12th, 2008 at 8:09 am
There’s no guarantee that they’ll use the founding Avengers. They might use a mixture of recent Avengers and founding ones: Hulk, Iron Man, Wolverine, Spiderman, Thor, and Captain America. There really is no need for a Thor, Captain American, or Ant Man movie for there to be an Avengers movie. And, the others have new or recent movies. Hulk is too difficult to manage to be a good Avenger, so I wouldn’t look for him to be much of a member, if at all. Since there has been no official announcement for production of an Avengers movie, I wouldn’t look for it any time soon.
May 15th, 2008 at 8:58 am
As for having the Avengers being part of the second Iron Man I really do not think that all of them should be put into the movie. Hulk really doesnt seem like the wisest choice, seeing as a new movie of Hulk is due soon. Next, Thor really wasnt a “superhero” in my opinion, just some mighty guy with a hammer thrown into the Avengers. If anything I believe that Captain America should be the only one to be involved in the new Iron Man2
May 15th, 2008 at 9:31 am
I hope they don’t make the movie like the comics :( I love Terrence Howard, I don’t want to see him as the bad guy :( and I don’t want Iron Man to die, I love Robert Downey.
May 17th, 2008 at 12:05 pm
Yeah, thats my thoughts too! Downey made the movie and
Terrence Howard as Ironman? That would be horrible.
even the big producers should see it at that angle.
May 19th, 2008 at 5:14 am
Look, for you people who think that Terrence Howard is actually taking over, you’re sooo naive. though he is playing the role of WAR MACHINE(not IRON MAN) he couldnt fill Downey’s sarcasim & slick-ness, plus IRON MAN & WAR MACHINE, THATS A TAG TEAM FROM HELL…I Personally Been Waiting For This Movie Since, they Started The Comic-book-movie-ERA. And For those Who Are worried about the villians in the next moive…DONT!! AVENGERS MOIVE: OH yea, For You ANT MAN FANS….Come On!! The Charater is important in the comic books, but these are moives..2 mins of a flash back and Ant-man is killed in action, its not hard to explain the history of an NOT SO importANT Comic-Book-Moive Charater. And the Captain america role should be in the The Movie..We Havent Seen Cap. in Action In YEARS..Plus With The Actors We Have Nowadays It’ll Be GREAT.
May 30th, 2008 at 10:25 am
Captain America will have a part in the next Ironman/avengers movie. If you all can notice, there’s an easter egg type of clue that Captain America will at least be mentioned or be part of the Avengers/Ironman movie. It is the scene when miss potts comes in for the first time when stark was trying on the suit and he says to her that she has scene him do worst things than what she is witnessing, with him trying the suit on. Take a look at the table that you get a glimpse of, at the bottom left of the screen. You will notice that Captain America’s sheild was on that table. It may seem like he was already working on some sort of superweapon for the military, which, as you all know, Captain America uses as his weapon eventually.

I think they should save Mandarin as the main villain until Iron Man 3.I think the villains should be Titanium Man and Crimson Dynamo.I know most of you might think this will be like Iron Monger but wait until you hear this idea.Because of Stark’s alcoholism,Rhodes becomes War Machine and is badly beaten by Titanium Man and Crimson Dynamo. That is when he flies back to beg Stark to help him fight the pair. Then,Iron Man and War Machine tag team on Titanium Man and Crimson Dynamo. Then, they find out that Titanium Man and Crimson Dynamo are Mandarin’s henchmen, leaving the door open for a final battle in Iron Man 3,with Iron Man vs. Mandarin.I know Titanium Man and Crimson Dynamo seems a bit too much like Iron Monger. Can anybody tell me if they have any better ideas?I have one last idea though.Ultimo was built by Tony Stark’s father right? So,what if Tony Stark finds out this giant robot was built by his father,it makes him depressed and he turns to alcohol? But make Ultimo the size of a skyscraper. Then,War Machine takes over, but at the end,Tony Stark ends up back as Iron Man and they both defeat Ultimo.Has anybody else got any ideas for what villains they would like to see in Iron Man 2?I really don’t think they should use Mandarin for Iron Man 2.If you think they should use Mandarin for number three, who do you think should be used for Iron Man 3?
June 2nd, 2008 at 10:26 pm
To tell you guys the truth imagine modok as the next villain for IM2 and for the Avengers would be the the skrull army
June 5th, 2008 at 7:51 pm
i heard that TRIPLE H was suppose to be thor ( which he would be great ) not captain america. i didnt like the first ironman his suit was great but not enought action for me. the second one sounds like it would be great though. having terrance howard in a new warmachine armor. it would be really cool. but i only have one issue. ive only read like 5 ironman comics none with major villans. who would he fight for the second or 3rd movie? and i liked how they put S.H.I.E.L.D in and it would be cool to do something with nick fury ( maybe samuel l jackson? ) and maybe the avenger… im not to sure yet how i feel on soing that so soon though.
June 7th, 2008 at 12:00 pm
in iron man 2 the only heroes should be iron man (obviously) and war mchine. adding too many heroes will over complicate the movie. the villan(s) sholud be either the mandarin, titinaus, cimson dnamo or fing fan foom.
June 10th, 2008 at 8:25 pm
The next villian or villians will have to over power Iron Man which will also drive him deeper into his alchoholism resulting in Pepper Potts to leave him & also losing Stark Enterprises to public ownership & he becomes a street hobo. Yes Modok controlling Ultimo,Crimson Dynamo,& Ultimo would do the trick to over power Iron Man & The U.S. military. This would cause Rhodes to have no choice but to take the helm of War Machine & also help his best friend Tony to get his act together to defeat the Three then eventually Modok. Also Pepper helps get Tony off the street & returns as his friend & assistant. Tony at the end proves his ability to regain & take charge of Stark Enterprises. This would lead to Modok’s master none other than the Mandarin for Iron Man 3.
June 15th, 2008 at 2:34 am
hey guys, i just saw the hulk, and mr stark has a cameo in it, where he suggests a team is being built which is a great lead up to the avengers coming in 2011, and if i had to guess after watchiing the hulk and ironman, IM2 will include Stark as Ironman and Rhodes as WarMachine and stark will create the hulkbuster outfit, which will mean ultimate battle royale with the hulk, anyone else agree? plus 2010 will introduce thor, and i believe right before the avengers comes out, in 2011 Captain America will be released, anyone else excited for this amazing setup marvel is doing for the upcoming years? I AM
June 19th, 2008 at 12:41 pm
So are they gonna make like a Hulk and iron man as a team sequel of something????
June 19th, 2008 at 1:42 pm
well its either gonna be that ironman 2 will be ironman and warmachine vs some new villan (which is more likely) and then ironman and the hulk will team up in the avengers, or there will be an ironman vs hulk, which they set it up for in the end of the hulk, we shall see what happens
June 21st, 2008 at 4:08 pm
I guess I don’t understand why everyone has to be cool with half-a** representations. Nick Fury is a stone cold icon (to those who know he exists), and he will be great whether or not he is black, but here’s something to consider: why is everyone insulted because the change is pointed out, when those who are defending it should be insulted? Why would anyone want to defend a change when it absolutely insults them? This is the thing. Nick Fury hasn’t been changed from white to black. The comics have both versions actively represented. Why would anyone want to say to someone, “I think that it’s empowering that instead of writing a strong black character from scratch (which could easily be done), they’ve pasted a famous black face on a white character, so why are you making such a racist fuss?” The whole thing seems based in money and public relations. I’m not saying that it will castrate him, or do anything to the character but bring him to the forefront, and give him more fans that may not have been familiar with him, what I’m saying is, those new fans may look to the comics to find out more about this “new” character, and be TOTALLY confused, and maybe a little insulted and hurt then, too, especially if it’s said that it’s an alternate universe or something. So, do you call it a PR move? Or a half-a** racial Band-Aid? Or maybe they were trying to enrich an old character? If the latter is true, then the old character needs to be totally destroyed, or the move is just so much crap.
June 23rd, 2008 at 3:22 am
ok all u guys did anyone watch the ending of the new hulk, what about the ultimate alliance movie they wouldnt mention it in another movie if it wont cummin out within 2 years
