Even our box office analysts are predicting a disappointing opening for Speed Racer. But what industry analysts don’t know is that the first teaser trailer for Catherine Hardwicke’s big screen adaptation of Twilight will be attached to the Wachowski Brothers film, this according to Collider. Twilight is, of course, the first of a series of best-selling novels about teenage vampires. We first really discovered this film last week when /Film was bombarded with over 1400 comments from fans of the series. The last book knocked Harry Potter out of the top spot on the Best-sellers list, so I’m thinking this could be pretty big. One thing is for sure, there is a huge hardcore fan following on the internet. But could that translate to huge box office? Speed Racer will be the first huge test to see how big Twilight actually is. If that film performs higher than expected, it could be due to “the Twilight effect”. But will Twilight fans be able to save Speed and the Racer family? That has yet to be seen.
Twilight tells the story of 17-year-old Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) who moves to the small town of Forks, Washington to live with her father, and becomes drawn to Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), a pale, mysterious classmate who seems determined to push her away. But neither can deny the attraction that pulls them together… even when Edward confides that he and his family are vampires. Their unorthodox romance puts her in physical danger when Edward’s nemesis comes to town and sets his sights on Bella.

…yeah I read the other article, but why should I care….it’s just another example of the RON PAUL internet gaming machine, where a vocal cause uses the internet to make something seem WAY BIGGER than it actually is. Those kids aren’t actually 18 of the top 30 stars, Twilight fans are gaming the system…same with the 1400 comments, it’s not representative of the moviegoing populace. Well the Twilight books are actually an excellent read, and I’m a 27 year old married male. Now I know what your thinking, “Ya well his wife probably made him read it” and the truth is… YOUR RIGHT. I thought I’d take a short break from the 360 and appease the wife by reading a couple of pages, but to my suprise I couldn’t put the book down. Its really that good, I usually read a book like once every 5 years and I read the 3 Twilight books in month and look forward to the final book.
I just hope the movie turns out as good as the book, but most don’t, not even the Harry Potter Movies, that being said the H.P. movies were great, it’s just that the books are that much better. And the Twilight book is right up there with H.P. if not in front of it.

How anyone can compare The Covenant to Twilight is beyond me. They are two completely different stories, and I personally think that no one should compare a great book like Twilight with a crappy movie like The Covenant, if you haven’t read any of the Twilight books. That being said, I dont think the Twilight trailer will save Speed Racer (I dont think anything can). A lot Twilight fans will most likely watch the trailer online, probably even days before Speed Racer hits theaters

I have in fact read the books. They aren’t very good; they’re full of poor characterization, bad writing, cliches, and disturbing ideas about romance. If Twilight does well at all it’ll be because they have some pretty talented people working on it, rather than because of the quality of the story itself. That being said, I don’t think the Twilight teaser will help Speed Racer all that much, because why pay $9 for a ticket when it’ll be uploaded to YouTube in a short while?

Seriously, the twighlight books are amazing. Anyone bashing them better have at least read them first. Before i read them, i thought they’d be lame because they’re about vampires. But once i started reading i couldn’t put them down! I read all three books in 4 days and i can’t wait for the 4th book and the movie!
I think the Twighlight preview could definitely save Speed Racers. I know a ton of people going to see it just for that one glimpse at Twighlight. That series has one heck of a following that will continue on through the big screen!

What the hell is up with all the Twilight bashing? If you’re going to base an entire film on the two sentence summary you read on the internet then you have no right to talk. Just because something has romance and vampires doesn’t mean it’s stupid. I’ll admit, the concept for the movie sounds corny, but until you’ve actually picked up the books, you can’t really judge. They’re actually a lot of fun to read.
If you don’t like the sound of the Twilight movie, fine - don’t see it. But don’t leave comments filled with hate on a site like /film. It’s not cool. This is where movies fans are supposed to come together, not turn on each other in the comments section.
As for the story at hand, I’m interested in Speed Racer anyway, but a lot of my friends are seeing it soley for the Twilight trailer. So who knows how things will go? I don’t think it’ll be Speed Racer’s “saving grace,” though.

I am tired of twilight readers trying to make a point about how the book is not just for kids. We understand that older people can read it too.
I tried reading it but did not like, it was too dramatic for my taste. My girlfriend on the other hand loves them and after seeing who was cast as Edward from the book she was turned off completely from the movie.

First of all, Twilight is an excellent series of books and I think
it will also be an excellent movie but I doubt the movie will
do the book justice.
Second of all, I really doubt that even the first glimpse of
Twilight will save Speed Racer. Nobody in their right minds would
waste 9 bucks to just see a trailer and then sit through an
utterly horrible movie for 2 hours when they can just see it on YouTube for free.
And third of all, for those of you who are reading this and thinking
that I am just some stupid fan, you’re wrong. I have read the
Twilight books many times now and they never cease to surprise
me and make me cry or make me excited. I am more than a
fan, I am thankful that I managed to come across these books.
To feel like I am in another world while I read them. To sit

Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse are the single best books I’ve read. End of story.
I can comprehend how some would not like it; but to judge the books [and even to go as far as critisizing FANS and TwilightMoms whom you've never personally met!] without sufficiant knowledge of what you’re discussing is ludicris.
I also understand the whole ‘age issue’. I’m 14 and happen to love the books.
I’m in a MySpace group and every person in said group loves the series as well. The members are from my age to [I think] 35.
PLUS, I’ve gotten my father, step-mom, grandma, and sister to read the series. They all loved it as well.
AND I also saw somewhere that someone was turned from the movie/books from Robert Pattinson. WHAT?!? That is absurd in my opinion. I love Rob as Edward. Plus, you/she have (has) NOT seen his acting; which I do not think is a liable judgement for the entire movie.

We forget that this is the same demographic that screamed and cried and fainted over The Beatles, or NSYNC or the Backstreet Boys. Some things simply can’t be avoided.
And for all you Twilight people “amased” by the regular posters comments, well, have you read any of the other comments on other blog posts? They’re just like that no matter the movie. That’s just the way things roll here it seems.

Just in case anyone is wondering, I’m pretty sure the Harry Potter trailer ISN’T airing before Speed Racer. Sources say that it will be airing before The Chronicles of Narnia on May 16. I mean, I could, of course, be wrong, but I”m pretty sure that this information is correct. So don’t go to Speed Racer with too high of hopes.
Now, to enter into this argument, I admit that I’m going to Speed Racer just to see the Twilight trailer. And I don’t care if you think that’s stupid. There’s a difference to watching something in shitty quality on Youtube and watching it on a big screen with surround sound. It’s an exhilerating experience for me. Children, behave! I’m talking to those of you bashing ‘Twilight’. The only reason you’re doing so is because the series is so popular and the majority of the fanbase is teenage girls.
That does NOT give you the right to bash an amazing part of America’s literature that may very well become part of its cannon in the future.
The movie may be bad, this is because movies can never live up to the legends they are attempting to portray. We all know this. But that does not mean that the books are not legends in and of themselves.
How dare you try to ruin this series. The reason it is so popular is beacuase so many people identify with it. They see themselves in the characters, identify with the themes and motifs and most importantly, have an entertaining and intelligent escape from everyday life.
Just because you haven’t found that does not mean you have the right to become immature and bash something you propably have never taken the time to read.

I was going to go see speedracer anyway because A) I grew up watching it and so did my husband and B) My son is 10 and he really wants to see it. Do I think that twilight may have an effect…. Absolutely and there is more than just a teenage base to this series. My daughters teacher mentioned it last year and I told her that I was completely uninterested in a series based on vampires… Ha was I wrong. I was at a bookstore looking for something good to read now that Harry Potter was over and done with and one of the workers told me read this and If I didn’t love it I could bring it back and she would buy it back from me personally.. I did, it was incredible, and I am hooked.. Also we can get our points across without foul language. Just because it is a swear word does not mean it adds emphasis to your statement it only makes you look more ignorant and this includes the twilight fans or otherwise. “Strong language is the expression of a weak mind” meaning you do not have the ability to think of another way to express yourselves effectively without the use of inappropriate language.

First off, if you’re going to be bashing the fans, maybe you should learn how to spell. ‘Amazed’ is a fairly simple word, if you think about it. It isn’t that difficult to learn.
Second, we don’t have an unhealthy obsession with ‘Twilight.’ Would you rather us have an unhealthy obsession with something else? I think books are a very healthy thing to b e obsessed about.

Stephenie Meyer has produced beautiful and intelligent novels worth being obsessed over. You can’t bash the fans when you don’t even realize the greatness of her work. These books are best-sellers. Don’t you think there’s a reason for that other than teenage girls being obsessed? And i know a lot of fans that are guys and mothers. It’s not just a bunch of teenage girls.
Nevertheless, if you’ve been keeping up with the ‘Twilight’ News on MTV’s movie blog, then you’d know there may be a surprise little clip on ‘Twilight Ttuesday,’ which is, incedentally, the same day that Stephenie Meyer’s new novel, ‘The Host,’ will be released.
maybe we won’t all have to go to see ‘Speed Racer’ to see the ‘Twilight’ trailer, though the surround sound and huge screen would make the thrill all that more riveting.
So, please, stop bashing the fans and the movie. It’s incredibly distasteful and rude to all of us. Grow up and stop commenting if you have nothing good to say.

Second, The Beatles produced some of the greatest music of the twentieth century. You can’t bash The Beatles because their work was amazing, as is Stephenie Meyer’s. The reason people were obsessed with it was because it was AMAZING.
Also, we fans don’t have an ‘unhealthy obsession’ with this book. It’s perfectly healthy. Would you rather us all be obsessed with something else? At least we’re reading. We could be out doing something much worse.
Also, if you’re going to be bashing, maybe you could learn to spell. ‘Amazed’ is a fairly simple word. I’m sure it wouldn’t have been too hard to see if you’d spell it right.
Another thing, if you would have been keeping up with ‘Twilight’ news, you’d know that on Tuesday May 6th, 2006 (which, incidentally, is the same day that Stephenie Meyer’s new novel, ‘The Host’ comes out), MTV’s ‘Twilight Tuesday’ on the movie blogs section may have a little surprise for you so you won’t HAVE to waste your money to go see Speedracer when all you want is the trailer. Though, the surround sound does add a better feel to the thrill.

I just loved the twilight serie and i’m sure I,m gonna love the movie just as well. But I don’t see any reason to go see Speed Racer. This movie would fail even with the twilight fans!!! Why? My cousin first gave me Twilight to read. At first I wasn’t too thrilled with the idea it was a “vampire” book.. not really my type of reading! Plus I am 31, so the idea of reading a “teens” book didn’t really appeal to me. 6 days later.. I had read all three books.. (Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse) Couldn’t put them down.. Before you bash it.. go out and read it. This book series taught me a lesson that has been preached to me all my life..”Never judge a book by it’s cover!”

I LOVE TWILIGHT.
What’s with the hating? The Twilight series is honestly, the best in the world, in my opinion. I wanted to read Twilight for so long, simply because I’d heard so much about it, so I finally went out and bought it… and read it in one night. I loved it, and pretty soon I went off to buy New Moon and Eclipse. These three books are my favorite, and they made me laugh, cry, and everything in between. Stephenie Meyer is an amazing writer, and she got all of Bella’s emotions just right- it seems like she must have been feeling them right as she wrote them.
Anyone who says that Twilight is a horrible book is seriously mistaken and obviously hasn’t read it. Why don’t you all get a life, go out and read these books, and THEN come back and see if you feel like bashing them. I bet you anything you won’t, unless you’re some teenage boy who thinks he’s too macho to like anything like Twilight.

I love the books and I 13 and ‘ve seen some sneek peeks at the movie I find it will turn out great! There’s also a lot of tough critism here. If I was the author and reading some of these I would be kinda sad at some of the remarks. And somebody who says they hate Twilight probably has never read it. So please read before you critize.

I do not understand how you can say “Twilight” sucks if people haven’t read it. don’t give your opinion if it dosen’t have a basis for it. That being said, do not compare harry potter to twilight, they are very different stories, and themes to it. The only thing they have in common is the fantasy element and the actor that is to be playing Edward. Now, whoever says her writting skils sucks does not undersand what she is doing in her books. she is not trying to be the perfect writer, she is trying to evoke the teenage bella in the reader, and as we know teenagers do not have the perfect vocabulary. i recently picked up these books and read them within 3 days. one day per book. i have obsessed…great story about love, vampires and warewolves..I LOVE IT! it’s not just for teens, me myself being 19, but my older friends love to read it as well.

When you read the storyline to Twilight it may sound kind of… corny. But you have to actually read the books to appreciate them. It is an amazing, compelling book series that wraps you into it. You will laugh and cry and feel as though you have fallen in love yourself. So don’t comment on them until you have actually read them.

So.
I am a Twilight fan. Huge. Have been since my best friend introduced me to them BEFORE they were big big Harry Potter- beating hits. I love them. I am certainly in the fanbase. And yes, I am a teenager, if only for a few more months. And if Edward Cullen proposed, I would accept. Get it got it good.
I am with people that are mad at the haters that haven’t read the books. That’s silly. Try reading them, and then you have a right to critique or even bash all you want (although the person who said there’s bad characterization- do you think this large of a fanbase would fall in love with a badly characterized character? Obviously we’re understanding something we love in these people we’re reading about. I feel like I know each Cullen. That’s hardly bad.
That said.
Have some perspective Twilighters! I love ya, and believe me Im JUST as excited for the books and this movie as you are (the short teaser trailer had me pretty much giddy for a few minutes) but I think it is hardly fair to make such broad general statements as that it is the best series in the world ever.

We can tell them to read the books before they knock them, asking them to give it a chance. But… we cannot force loving a book series down the throats of people who have tried and dislike it. They tried. You know? There are things you dont love that other people might like you to.
I think, really, that respecting the opinions of others on BOTH sides is whats really necessary, as well as staying out of it if you cannot back up what you say with knowledge of the actual books.

Anyway, back to the article. Yes, I have already seen the preview online, but I am still going to see Speed Racer. I barely wanted to see it, but knowing the Twilight preview is playing sealed the deal. Also, for those of you who want to save $10 and watch the preview online, the preview online is only PART of the actual preview. The ACTUAL preview will premiere before Speed Racer and on the movie’s website on Friday. So keep a lookout!

I have actually considered going to see Speed Racer just to see the Twilight trailer, but I think it would be a waste of the pricey cost of a movie ticket when I can get it in high-def at home. I don’t think Speed Racer will be “saved” by Twilight, because most Twilight fans are smart enough to keep their hyperventilating panic-attack fangirl moments out of the public eye (though I admit to obsessing at home…).
Wow, I don’t usually see Twilight bashings this bad. I know this has been stated and beat to death, but I have to say it. I hated them before I read them, like most people. I figured anything with a plot like that and a rabid teen fanbase would be corny and awful. I’ll admit it is corny, and the writing is simple compared to other novels of its size and grandeour, but the characters are real and human enough that almost anyone can relate. I must also reiterate that it’s really not a sci-fi novel at all. It’s about love “conquering all” and about finding yourself. Some of the characters may be vampires, yes, but it’s in the perspective of a very average seventeen-year-old girl.
Here’s a brilliant idea: if you don’t like it, fine. Don’t waste your time bashing it to death and acting unnecessarily immature.
(Also, where did the Titanic and The Covenant bashing come from? It’s completely irrelevant.)

I am a Twilight fan, but I won’t be going to see Speed Racer for the teaser, unless my kids want to see the movie.
As for the Twilight book series…it’s excellent writing. Want proof? Go to the American Library Association website…Twilight is an award winning book. It has to be pretty good to win an award. As for the Twilight movie, I think the “Twilight Fandom” is counting down the days until the premiere. Do we all expect the movie to be as good as the books? Maybe. All I’m gonna say is, it’s hard to make an excellent book into an excellent movie. Even the HP movies didn’t do the books complete justice.
Twilight may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but if you haven’t even tries to read it then your opinion really doesn’t matter!
I don’t think the Twilight teaser will save Speed Racer, but it sure will cause the movie to make more money than expected.

I liked the movie Speed Racer. I dont care to sit through previews but i did just so i could see twilight but guess what….it never showed…so a preview can not save a movie no matter how bad it is. look at the price to watch a movie in theaters. coming from someone who works in a theater the price is over board. if it was cheaper to watch a movie then people wouldnt try to get certain previews to save a movie.

I’ve never seen Speed Racer, and I really don’t plan on it because I hated that old crappy cartoon thing. I know of a bunch of people that did go to Speed Racer just to see the Trailer for Twilight, though. So in a way, the small possibility that it could have been shown made a fair amount of people go to see the stupid movie.
And yes, half of the people that I know, that went, have never heard of Speed Racer in their lives, and probably didn’t care about it at all. I actually know that my cousins walked out on the movie right when it started, because there was no trailer.
To those of you that don’t know anything about Twilight, and would like to bash it, go ahead. But that just shows how low you really are. You have the right to your own opinion, but it makes you look like an idiot if you’re going to go and say things of something you know nothing about.
Anyway. Speed Racer, in my opinion, could’ve done good on it’s own, if there was never the Twilight Trailer prospect of it. But since there was, I’m pretty sure that def. boosted it.

SO ive read most of this comment crap, & i can say, I agree with some of what ive read so far, the people who are dissing Twilight, obviously havent read it, and i can almost gurantee if you do read it, you will enjoy it, even though the series is published by a young adult publishing co. does not mean its off limits to ppl that are older, your never too old or too young to enjoy something, and since when did having a love for a book leave you open for public mockery? Twilight is the ONLY book I’ve ever been really addicted to. I’ve read all three books more than once.
So you haters shouldn’t say a thing unless you’ve read twilight; and if you have and STILL hate it, then there must be something wrong with you.

I was planning to watch the Speed Racer movie, despite my lack of interest in it, so I could catch a glimpse of the Twilight Movie. (AKA the trailer)
I’m still deciding.
I’ve already seen the twilight teaser; but I’m sure the actual trailer is a tad longer.
Though, there is the possibility that I could see the trailer and leave. But like I said, I’m still deciding.
And I’m sure there are a lot of people thinking the way I am, but are still undecided as well.
Let’s hope the Twilight Trailer actual IS attached to the Speed Racer film; otherwise there’ll be a lot of pissed off Twilighters.

Okay first of all, for all the people dissing Twilight, SHUT UP. if you didn’t read it then dont diss it. i actually just bought Twilight last friday. and i already finished the third book. so if it’s so bad how come i know a lot of people who read all three books (for now) so fast? and read it over and over again? and WHY is it #1 on the best sellers list? PLEASE explain that to me.
and i think it will save speed racer since that movie looks stupid.
only because it was a cartoon before. and hollywood, I think, is over doing it since they cant think of anything else to make.
either that make a cartoon into a real life movie or they use asian movies for example: One Missed Call (which sucked)
so twilight will probably help speed racer.
& if you haven’t read twilight & are STILL dissing it
go get a life & buy the book and make yourself useful :)
