An unnamed stunt man working on the 22nd James Bond film and the second starring Daniel Craig, Quantum of Solace, is in critical condition at a hospital in Italy after the vehicle he was driving, an Alfa Romeo 159, crashed during filming. This Is London posted a few scary photos from the aforementioned crash and another recent haywire vehicle stunt with an Aston Martin, the latter of which we’ve included here (click to pop). This marks the third such incident, and most major, on the film thus far, leading some of the Italian production crew to speak of a curse. What’s more, it’s unknown whether the scene with the Alfa Romeo will be reshot or scrapped altogether. Producers are purportedly discussing the situation.
While this isn’t a typical Slashfilm item, there’s no harm in recognizing the risk by industry stunt people that goes into making such complex action movies. More on the stunt driver’s condition as it develops.

It’s sad to think that they are talking of a “Curse”. Lets just hope he gets at least mentioned in the Directors Commentary.
Oh and good luck and all that jazz.

I hope he has a speedy recovery. Seriously, though… couldn’t these stunts be pre-programmed, as to removing the need of having an actual driver inside. Just for the sake of getting a shot of someone inside the vehicle. I’m sure there’s technology to do this. The driver could also drive it remotely - in a scene mockup - while receiving a live video feed.

I don’t understand why they didn’t build a cage inside the car.
Every other stunt car that I know use a cage in case that they roll over.

What Black Eagle said,
Was there a cage even inserted into the frame? Isn’t it usual practice that they do this with every stunt involving a car, even if it’s just a chase scene?
Also, the This is London article is gone.

According to the Metro, a free paper in the UK, the driver was absolutely fine, came to in the water and was then fined for dangerous driving by the local police!!
“The man behind the wheel of James Bond’s Aston Martin has been fined £400 for dangerous driving after he drove the car into a lake during filming - reports the Daily Times.
British engineer Fraser Dunn, 29, was left shaken and more than a little stirred after the £134,000 Aston Martin DBS slid off the road and plunged into Lake Garda in northern Italy, where filming is taking place on the new Bond movie Quantum of Solace.
Now local police have said he has been given a mandatory fine for dangerous driving. Local police chief Marco Zucchelli said: “This is a standard fine for dangerous driving because the driver lost control of the car.†Dunn, who is from Leamington Spa, was left with just minor injuries after the accident.”
Sure he might have been taken to the Hospital for a check up, but i think “fighting for his life’ was a bit over dramatic.

@Farstarbuck
Did you bother to read the post at all or just skim over it? While the stuntman who was delivering the aston martin to the set was fine, the stuntman involved in the accident in the alfa romeo 159 whilst filming is critically injured and fighting for his life…
