The Internet Movie Database is not just a useful tool to answer questions like “who was in that movie” or “what else did that guy direct”. IMDb also keeps track of a variety of analytics. For example: movie, actor and crew member searches. Who is the biggest star in Hollywood this minute?
Tom Cruise? Nope.
Kristen Bell? Nope…
Taylor Lautner

Don’t know who Lautner is? Welcome to the club. I was shocked to see his name on the top of the list when I logged into IMDB this weekend. Taylor has been in three movies, the biggest of which was Cheaper by the Dozen 2, had been flying completely off of my radar. So why is he the most searched actor in the world? Because he’s currently starring in the upcoming film Twilight. Ever hear of it?
Twilight is actually the 14th most searched movie on the internet according to IMDbPro’s moviemeter. Twilight ranks higher than Sex and the City: The Movie, The Incredible Hulk, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Speed Racer, and even Indiana Jones 4. Even more surprising is the film’s 18 listed cast members make up most of the top 30 searched stars on the web (look at the numbers to the right on the IMDB screenshot below). How could this be?

If you’re not a teenage girl or a mother than chances are that you probably have no idea what Twilight is. To be honest, I had heard of the movie in passing, but had no idea that there was such a huge passionate fanbase behind it. Twilight is the first book in a series of teen-lit vampire novels (”Twilight,” “New Moon,” “Eclipse,” and upcoming “Breaking Dawn”) by Stephenie Meyer, who is often refereed to as America’s JK Rowling. An apt comparison considering the third book in the series, Eclipse, actually knocked Harry Potter off the #1 spot on USA Today’s bestseller list. Stranger yet, Meyer is a Mormon stay-at-home mom who admits that she doesn’t watch horror movies, and has never even read Bram Stoker’s Dracula.
The movie adaptation is directed by Catherine Hardwicke, the production designer turned director responsible for Thirteen, Lords of Dogtown and The Nativity Story. The story follows Seventeen-year-old Isabella Swan (Kristen Stewart), who moves to the small town of Forks, Washington to live with her father, and finds herself drawn to a mysterious classmate named Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), who is revealed to be a one-hundred-year old vampire. He tries to push her away, but they soon fall in love. When the arrival of another coven of vampires puts Bella in danger, Edward and his family band together to save her before she is killed. It’s being pitched as Romeo and Juliet set in the world of Vampires, but the visuals and story sounds a bit more like The Covenant to me. I’m sure the resulting film will be nothing to that effect.
But it gets even stranger. The movie studio which is producing and is distributing this film is not Warner Bros, Disney, New Line, MGM or Sony. Actually, I’d be surprised if you even heard of the studio before. The answer is: Summit Entertainment, a former foreign-sales agent which announced last April that they would evolve into a full-fledged production and distribution entity which planned to “deliver studio-quality product at a reduced cost ($20 million - $60 million range).” Twilight is scheduled to be released on December 12th, 2008, only three weeks after Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince hits theaters. Watch some behind the scenes featurettes from the film on MTV.
Discuss: Will Twilight become the next Harry Potter?
Added Disclaimer: Welcome to all the Twilight fans who have found this article. Over the last 24 hours I’ve talked to a lot of people who also had never heard of the book series or upcoming film adaptation. Please note that this article was written by someone who had never heard of the book series. I was surprised to discover the huge intense fanbase behind a film that virtually no one in my field has been aware of. In this article I make a comment that if you aren’t a teenage girl, than you probably haven’t heard of Twilight. I’ve come to discover that Twilight fans come in many ages, and even different sexes. But I still stand by the fact that most Twilight fans fall into the teenage female demographic. This is not meant as a slight, or as an insult, just an observation about the audience for this book series and the eventual movie. Also, I realize that Twilight is very different than Harry Potter, but at the same time they are both huge fantasy book series with strong fanbases. My question is really akin to asking “Will Twilight become the next huge fantasy film series?”

“teen-lit vampire novels”
…
Twilight: There’s an erect phallace in our logo.

yeah, i noticed this movie was ALL over mtv.com, along with the book and i had NO idea what it was. But I recognize the cover.

Will Golden Compass be the next Lord of the Rings? Will Lemony Snickett be the next Harry Potter? Unfortunately whenever these questions are posed, the answer always ends up being no.
April 20th, 2008 at 11:18 pm
Did you get paid to post this?
April 21st, 2008 at 1:54 am
OMG!!! I didn’t think that the cast will dominate the imdb. I’m a huge fan of the book and movie. I’ve got to tell you all that it will be huge…But please don’t say that it is the next Harry Potter because they are completely different. To tell you the truth, I like Twilight better than Harry Potter.
April 21st, 2008 at 2:38 am
i guess they might have some kinda algorithm to screw up with imdb’s search engine!!!
April 21st, 2008 at 2:47 am
This book isn’t only for teens you know?
I, personally am above the young teenage years (18)
I loved it.
You better get your facts straight before you write something like this. Have you ever heard of Twilight Moms?
And this movie/book is nothing like the movie “The Covenant”! It has nothing in common with it!
on a better note, I am glad that Twilight is gaining a lot more attention.
April 21st, 2008 at 3:23 am
I just started reading the series, after my friend told that it’s a MUST read. I’m really enjoying it and I can’t seem to put it down. I always think that movies are never as good as the original books, like Harry Potter, the books are ming blowing but the movies were not as good. I’m looking forward to watch the movie hoping that its as good as the book!
April 21st, 2008 at 3:53 am
i never heard of twillight but after reading all this curiosity i might have to give it a read.
lately, ive been kristen stewart so im looking forward to this.
April 21st, 2008 at 4:50 am
As Esther says above, Twilight is not for only teen girls. I myself know mothers, and even teen boys reading the novels.
Anyways, the fandom for this movie is HUGE. I volunteer for school community hours at a library and I have at least one person a day coming in to ask for that book.
The wait list is incredible for the whole series.
The books are about the story, not necessarily because it is written with the finest English (which it isn’t). The novel does take you away and literally makes you feel as if vampires (but not the fake Buffy ones) are real.
April 21st, 2008 at 5:09 am
I love these books - they’re fun reads. As for the movie, December cannot come fast enough! I’ve been following the project since the book came out and MTV still had the rights. I didn’t ever think it would be featured on here. :)
April 21st, 2008 at 5:17 am
My girlfriend is a fan of the books and tried to get me into it, but i found it to be too much of a teen drama, and i did not like how it reminded me of all of the bad vampire movies all mashed together (The covenant, buffy, etc.). And of course there are wearwolves that are the bad guys.
That being said she hates the cast and hates that it is going to be turned into a movie.
April 21st, 2008 at 5:53 am
I believe you are incorrect on the scope of fanbase of this movie. Twilight’s fans are global and have touched not only young readers but adults alike (i.e. twilightmoms.com is listed in the top 3 Twilight fansites according to themovie-fanatic.com). I for one am looking forward to this movie, and cannot wait until the 4th book debuts in August.
April 21st, 2008 at 6:12 am
I’ve read the books only because Kristen Stewart was cast as Bella…
April 21st, 2008 at 6:17 am
I thank you for writing an article over Twilight but hopefully in the future you will reconsider comparing the series to Harry Potter. I am a huge fan of both yet feel Twilight inevitably becomes the red-headed stepchild of HP because it will be near impossible, if not impossible to live up to those standards. Thanks :)
Also, I’m 27 and love the books so….
April 21st, 2008 at 7:04 am
Saw a reel about this at Comic Con this weekend, no way will it be the next Potter, doesnt look even close to the quality of HP… def looked a little cheesier…
I never read any of the HP books but knew about the movies and the books before while the movie was filiming… I have never heard of the movie or books for twilight, even when they showed the reel I had no idea what it was… it may have a lot of fans, but know where near the awareness of HP
April 21st, 2008 at 7:09 am
I’m guessing you also didn’t know about “High School Musical” when it hit, either, eh? Anyone with any contact with any children under 16 probably knows about these books. They are fun, a little racy, and addictive - but the only thing they have in common with HP is that a) they are books, b) they involve some supernatural elements c) they sell like crazy in the US. They do not create their own worlds, they don’t appeal as evenly to both genders, and they are not as high-minded. They will be a a big flash, but a flash in the pan nonetheless.
April 21st, 2008 at 7:16 am
Thank you for your interesting article but I would just like to set the record straight on a few points.
First of all I am 52 and proud to be a TwilightMOM. There are thousands of registered TwilightMOMs and who knows how many regular guests from all over the world.
Secondly, I’ve been introducing Twilight to friends, both men and women, who encompass all age groups including my 92 year old great uncle. Those that have read it invariably like it and some LOVE it.
Also, to some of those who have posted comments here, you might want to actually read the books before judging them. The werewolves are not the bad guys and the story is quite compelling.
April 21st, 2008 at 8:01 am
Alright heres the problem: MANY people post articles about this series think that it is just a teen craze like High School Musical. Its definitely not. (see above) If you actually read the books and do your research you will find that out.
Second, most fans hate it when people compare Twilight to Harry Potter. The only thing they have in common is that they’re both successful.
So, just don’t be judgmental. It gets everyone mad. That’s all.
April 21st, 2008 at 8:02 am
This series isn’t just aimed at teen girls. In fact, Stephenie Meyer didn’t set out to write a strictly YA novel. The books are fantastic, and my 14 yr old son loves them as much as I do!!!!! This movie is going to be huge!!! We can’t wait!! And expect your site to crash with all the hits it’llget for this ONE article. Oh, and go get the books…
April 21st, 2008 at 8:09 am
Twilight has a huge following amongst the tween female set. It’s a slightly cliche vampire love story that makes for an easy read and lots of costume opportunities. Stephenie Meyer, the author of Twilight, has two other books in the series with a fourth coming out this summer - the latest book is already a bestseller in terms of pre-order on amazon. If treated correctly, if storylines are respected and characters are kept authentic, I believe it will be a HUGE box office draw.
Interestingly enough, it almost didn’t get made, according to the author’s website.
April 21st, 2008 at 8:15 am
a. This book isnt targeted for teenage girls. I’m 21 and I love it. I know 30+year olds that love it. And my male cousin who is football player and a quad player in band loves it too.
b. This is NOTHING like the Covenant (be it a good movie). Its like nothing ever put on TV or the Movies. If you want to get the real feel for it, READ IT.
April 21st, 2008 at 8:32 am
Twilight is not only for teenage girls. Whilst I do agree that it is mainly read by females the age bracket in which the fans range from 12 year olds to grandmothers and twilightmoms.com is a great example of this. I am a 19 year old uni student and frankly feel put down when it is described as a teenage girl book as I feel I am reading a child’s book.
Twilight has been around now for about 3 years and the fan base is steadily growing. Yet it is nothing like Harry Potter. Harry Potter is a fantasy book in every sense of the word. Twilight is essentially a love story that has supernatural elements. Many people who hate Harry Potter love twilight and as such many Harry Potter fans can’t stand twilight.
To compare these two books is like comparing milk and coke. Yes they are both drinks that people drink but the similarities stop there.
But, thankyou for taking the time to right this article because any bit of twilight news is always good news! Especially for our fanatic fan base!
April 21st, 2008 at 8:53 am
Hi, I wanted to say that I’m a huge Twilight fan and NOT a teenage girl, I’m actually a 27 year old sp.ed teacher. I share a love for this book along with many other teachers in my middle school building, and the students as well. It’s a love story that reaches all ages. I am glad that the books, movie, and it’s stars are getting the recognition they deserve!
April 21st, 2008 at 9:00 am
Alright, well. What points to address? I guess I’ll start with the most obvious.
Yes, the books are written for a Young Adult audience. But the age range of it’s fans falls from preteen to grandparent. Yes, it’s fan following is led mostly by females, but there are also many guys who have read, and enjoyed, the series. (If you are a guy, I highly recommend reading it. Trust me, we Twilight fans go a bit crazy when we meet or hear about guys that have read the books. =D )
Second, If you were to check out the board for Twilight on the IMDB website, you would realize just how popular the books are. The twilight board is the only one I post on. And it moves faster than any other board on IMDB that I am aware of (except for perhaps The Dark Knight board). There have been several occasions, where threads on the third page had been posted on only minutes before.
With that many users constantly on the Twilight page of IMDB, the question shouldn’t be ‘why IS it the 14th most popular’ but ‘why is it ONLY the 14th’.
Now, most of the actors in this film are relatively unknown. As the cast information was released, the fans wanted to find out as much as possible about each one. Hence, the high number of searches.
As for why Taylor Lautner seems to be outshining the rest of the cast in search numbers, is for two reasons. A) He is the most recently cast actor, and B) his casting is the most controversial among fans.
Many people were terribly upset to hear that Taylor would be playing the role of one of the more important characters. And his being cast has set off a seemingly infinite amount of heated debates and vulgar arguments.
Actually, it’s funny that you would mention The Covenant, since so many fans had their hearts set on Steven Straight in the role of Jacob Black.
Speaking of The Covenant, had I read this before seeing the video that was released at ComicCon, I would vehemently disagree with you. Based solely on my knowledge of the book, there is no comparison between the two. However, after watching the MTV released video, I can see where you would find the connection in the fight/action scenes. But the rest of the film, I can assure you, will in no way remind you of The Covenant.
Another highly debated topic, is whether or not the books and film will be the next Harry Potter. In the sense of popularity and overwhelming fandom… yes, I believe it will be, if it isn’t already. However, I would not be able to compare the plot or style of two books.
Both are written for the young adult genre, but have found fans well outside this range. Both are fantasy, revolving around mythical creatures. Both are immensely popular.
The similarities end there.
April 21st, 2008 at 9:07 am
I agree that its shocking how huge this movie is and its not even finished filming yet, but I seriously believe you have drastically misunderestimated this movie. Just because it’s very popular does not make it sugar-coated garbage. That’s just being a little bit ignorant. You don’t have to like the movie, but I suggest you don’t unfairly label it as teenage angst-ridden propaganda. Hey, you might even like the movie. Hell, you’ll probably love it and then slap yourself for ever doubting.
April 21st, 2008 at 9:31 am
honestly? i live in germany and the fanbase here is HUGE!!!
you ask if “twilight” will be the next “Harry Potter”? in my oppinion it allready is!!! there are millions of fans all over the world and they can’t wait for the movie!! so this is definetly bigger than Harry Potter!!!
April 21st, 2008 at 9:39 am
My 13 year old daughter and I both love this series and it’s been quite a few years since I have been a teenager! The number of members and visitors to the Twilightmoms website shows how big the adult fanbase is for these books. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but I don’t understand how you can give an informed one if you haven’t even read the books.
April 21st, 2008 at 9:48 am
Thanks for the article! I am not a teenager and I love the Twilight series books and am anxiously awaiting the movie! I think Summit did an excellent job selecting the cast members and absolutely love the lastest MTV video!
April 21st, 2008 at 9:50 am
This is the first Im hearing about this movie. I’ve heard about the book occasionaly but I really don’t know a lot about it. Now I don’t think anything can compare to the amount of sucess HP had but this sounds like it could be up there with HP. This apparently has a huge online fanbase and I think it will be big but HP has/had a ton of more exposure and I guess we’ll have to wait and see how this turns out. And from the description it does sound like the convenant bur I’ll have to see for myself. Either way, all this talking now makes me want to pick up a book and check it out.
April 21st, 2008 at 10:08 am
ok I’m a 21 year old female and I own the books which are good not great or as epic as harry potter but fun reads none the less.
Both are great in their own perspective (though based on personal bias I like harry potter better)
But am I the only one behind on the casting news, that Taylor Lautner was cast as Jacob Black?!?
April 21st, 2008 at 10:09 am
im 28 and love the books can not wait for the movie!!!
April 21st, 2008 at 10:10 am
While I am appreciative of any publicity Twilight receives, I must agree that it would be perhaps better suited for you to delve a little farther than IMDB while researching on a subject you plan on writing an article about. I find the HP comparison generic and trite…honestly it would appear the only people who make those comparisons are the ones who have never read Twilight ! HP stands on it’s own, as does the Twilight series. And kudos to the above comments referring to TwilightMom’s. 4500 and growing every day…that would indicate ( at least to me ) that the fan base transcends that rather presumptuous comment.
April 21st, 2008 at 10:13 am
I also forgot to mention:
FREAKING SHARK BOY IS JACOB BLACK?
REALLY???!!!
April 21st, 2008 at 10:20 am
Some of you haters are WAY underestimating this.
Yes, I am a teenage girl and in love with the books. And I cannot wait until the movie– it even comes out December 12th which is my birthday. But the Twilight series is in no way, shape, or form only for ‘teenage girls’. I have more than one guy friend who is just as adoring *ahem, obsessive* of Twilight as I am. And I am very much aware of TwilightMOMS, and I’m sure that there are many, ahem, TwilightDADS out there as well. And I think that this movie will do phenomenally, even if some of the cast is not what people hoped. Sure, Robert Pattinson can’t perfectly portray Edward– but what human could? I think that the movie very well could equal, if not top, the HP movies. The Twilight books have already gone above and beyond the HP books on the bestsellers list; who says the movie won’t do the same?
Ok, my little *ahem, incredibly long* rant is done. =]
April 21st, 2008 at 10:23 am
“If you’re not a teenage girl than chances are that you probably have no idea what Twilight is. ”
you are so wrong about that, there are more people who read the serie of Stephenie meyer not only teenage girls.
That is just stupid you know.
people over the 25 read twilight and the other books.
I really do not know what information you got on this, but i’ll that part is incorrect.
April 21st, 2008 at 10:29 am
So…I guess this was a very bias article. I’m assuming they haven’t read this book and are just basing their information on hear-say. Well I am a teenager, I will admit that…15 actually, but my sister who is 21…loves it. Weird, right? Because she isn’t a teenager.
It’s unwise to make articles about a VERY popular book that have a note of doubt in it because some “Twilighters” are easy-tempered.
Now let me point out your mistakes so you may fix it in the near future.
1. Not only for “teenagers”, as I said before my sister reads them and she is 21. Also there is a site, TwilightMoms.com, which is getting mentioned a lot and they aren’t teenagers, I presume.
2. The Covenant? I haven’t even seen this so I WON’T make assumption.
3. Some people may or may not like this book being compared to Harry Potter. This being said, I don’t really care. Fact: They are both very popular books. Fact: They are books being made into movies.
Fact: Who beat Harry Potter on the best seller list?
But anyway. Thanks for more attention to Twilight! We love it all! :]
April 21st, 2008 at 10:46 am
wow, the non-teenage girls have come out in droves to tell us the same shit. this is the strangest post littered with the strangest replies. who know twilightmoms read slashfilm daily? this is a little fishy.
April 21st, 2008 at 11:06 am
To Peter Sciretta,
*Wince*…Another ill-informed columnist. This is starting to get extremely annoying now. Is it really that difficult to do some research on a topic before it is published for the world to see? If it was my job to research and write an article, you can bet your mom that I would make sure I got it right. It would be my reputation on the line! That is particularity maddening because there are loads or resources at your disposal online, or an even BETTER resource in reading the book itself! Many of the previous comments cover what I did not like about this article, but here is my main issue: Please do not treat this book like it is only for tweeners and children. Every time you do, you insult the intelligence of the MANY adult fans. I have posted this before in forums as a member of the Twilight Moms, but anytime an article or interview comes out with this tone, it makes me feel like I have been excited and obsessive over something comparable to ‘The Cat in the Hat.’

I am 23 and absolutely love these books and I definitely cannot wait until the movie comes out!
April 21st, 2008 at 12:10 pm
O_O
*puts her hand up* Okie dokie, it seems like the fanatical legions have come out in force. I want to say a few things in defense of this article.
a) This is a movie blog, not a magazine. That means that a piece of movie news comes out and then it is stated, sometimes with an opinion, sometimes not. What needs to be remembered here is that this is NOT a BOOK blog. It is a MOVIE blog. The author was not trying to do a detailed article on the freaking novels. This blog post is about how a movie that, obviously, is getting little regular press is becoming a phenomenon based souly on the preexisting fanbase.
b) This article is written based on the MOVIE version of Twilight, not the written version. Judging from the material avail liable on the movie, it does look a lot like the Covenant, which was not a good movie. The cast consists of a bunch of pretty boys, okay? With super powers. That means it will be compared to other movies that feature pretty boy casts. Until the movie actually comes out and proves these comparisons wrong that’s what people are going to say.
c) STOP SAYING THE DUDE NEEDS TO READ THE BOOKS BEFORE WRITING A BLOG POST ON IT. That’s just stupid, okay? This is the first time I’ve even seen mention of this movie on a prominent movie blog, and I read a few. That means that this article is actually positive press. It says nothing wrong about the movie and that it is targeted towards teenage girls. Guess what? IT IS TARGETED TOWARDS TEENAGE GIRLS. That doesn’t mean other people can’t enjoy it, but like it or not that’s the target audience. Thus the casting. If you continue to relentlessly flame every movie blogger that makes this comparison they will not cover it. No positive PR means the movie will tank even more then it allready is probably going to do.
This website is about movies. Indian Jones, Terminator, The Hulk. Those are the other blog entries right now. Twilight may be the best damn book on the planet, but what we care about here is the movie. In comparison to the movies I just mentioned, how do you think it will do? From what I’ve seen this thing is going the way of Eragon so perhaps you should more careful of who you hate on, k?
April 21st, 2008 at 12:47 pm
This is going to be the BEST movie ever.
I, personaly am a huge fan of the Harry Potter series…but seriously, they don’t even compare to Twilight!
The Twilight series are the best books I’ve ever read and i’m completely obsessed. The cast for the movie is perfect and I can’t wait!!
April 21st, 2008 at 1:03 pm
To duca:
a.) The movie has garnered much press actually. If you decide to take a gander at any one of the webistes dedicated to the movie/books you will find many blog and mainstream media articles based on it. You’ve had Entertainment Tonight, Associated Press, MTV, ETalk (Canada), The Movie-Fanatic, Seventeen, amongst others report so I believe your comment is a bit inaccurate.
b.) So according to your logic then movies such as Spiderman, Superman, Batman, the Justice League, etc are all interchangeable since it’s about a hot guy in tights saving the world, right? I highly doubt anyone would lump them all so why now with Twilight? Just because it deals with Vampires doesn’t mean it should be lumped together with the Covenant.
c.) The movie won’t tank. Far from it. While I can understand that those who aren’t involved in the fandom might assume it’s just a small group of fanatical teenage girls with no time on their hands but to post comments on Twilight related topics, that’s not the case. People will see this movie not once, not twice, but at least three times because they love the story that much.
It’ll be interesting to see how attitudes changes once the Twilight phenomenon take off after the first installment. Those that wondered who Taylor Latuner was will be taunted for living under a rock.
April 21st, 2008 at 1:06 pm
Is Tom Cruise a Twilight Dad?
April 21st, 2008 at 1:27 pm
I can’t wait until the twilight movie! Though I wish people would seriously stop comparing Harry Potter to Twilight. The only thing they have in common is that they are a) books b)have HUGE fanbases an c) make a lot of money. After this movie they shouldn’t be saying Twilight is the next Harry Potter, because Twilight is an original that is too good to be compared to anything. Personally I like Harry Potter, it’s just I happen to like Twilight even more.
April 21st, 2008 at 1:29 pm
I’d like to point out that I’m glad you (the author) are at least now aware of the books. Thank you for the article.
However, you’re lack of knoweldge in the book and judgemental comments makes those already weary of the books turned off. Harry Potter and Twilight have nothing in common so I do not understand why everyone is comparing the two. The more people compare the two, the more people expects Twilight to BE LIKE Harry Potter. It’s not …as it shouldn’t be.
Summit actually was the comapny behind Resident Evil Trilogies –I’m sure you know of those movie. Michael Clayton with George Clooney? It’s not as small as you make it sound.
As well, like what previous posts stated,Twilight isn’t some teen novel. I’m 20 years old and I just finished all 3 books. I’m not going to lie though, when explaining the books it sounds cheezy and absurd, but no amount of explanation will do the books justice. It’s a “you-have-to-read-it-to-understand” thing.
But once again, I am estactic you at least know about the movie and book because that means the movie is being marketed well and has garnered curiousity. I am not at all bashing your opinion, just defending the book, hopefully making others aware that the plot is not as cheesy as it sounds.
As for me, I am excited for the movie. I am not expecting it to surpass HP sales but I’m going to enjoy it for what it is and for the wonderful story.
April 21st, 2008 at 1:30 pm
I cannot believe I hadn’t heard of this before. Perhaps because I stay away from MTV? But I would have to agree with those who say this is a book series only for teens. Thats how its marketed but I, who am not a teen, love it. Not crazy about the movie idea though. The books are really good but the movie is just going to turn into a teeny-bop circus. Bad feelings.
April 21st, 2008 at 1:35 pm
I don’t doubt that the books are good, but they sound really generic, in terms of plot. The quality of the Harry Potter movies looks a lot better than the stuff I was seeing in the featurettes.
April 21st, 2008 at 1:47 pm
i feel like half of these comments are fake. or at least the ones from April, or Kimberly, or Tina or any other generic girl’s name. anyone else feel like this whole story/series of replies is/are bogus?
April 21st, 2008 at 2:03 pm
To skaught:
My response to this article was not fake. I mean seriously, just because I’m a girl doesn’t mean I don’t know a good book when I see one. What I said in my previous response was anything but fake. I’m not sure if you’ve read the books before, but if you had, you would realize how good they are. I’m not saying you have to like it, but geez if you’re going to call something bogus at least read the books first.

i’m attacking all the suspicious comments. but i will ASSUME that its just going to be popcorn books into popcorn movies, i could care less about the string of soon to be made soon to be forgotten movies. do you think people will pick up twilight in a hundred years? its a modern exercise in killing time reading these books.
April 21st, 2008 at 2:17 pm
well, it looks like i will have to recind my previous comments in light of the fact that everyone has been sent over to slashfilm (and cinematical) by something called TwilightMoms. my apologies that i couldnt discern any sort of individuality in each of the comments.
April 21st, 2008 at 2:26 pm
skaught:
I think you’re probably right. These books won’t be around in a hundred years. But the point is is that these books are huge right now. Right now, they’re getting a lot of buzz and the movie is gaining a huge following. Does it really matter whether it has staying power for a century or not? No. The thing that matters is that people are enjoying it all right now, and have the right to do so, no matter how you personally view the quality of the books or the films
April 21st, 2008 at 2:46 pm
There it is again with the careless articles thinking that only teenage girls read the series. Twilight Moms anyone??? The Twilight fans are a force to be reckoned with. Do not review lightly! lol
April 21st, 2008 at 2:48 pm
to Skaught: I am real and I can assure you, they are real, too; the Twilight series is an incredibly addicting set of books. I am a somewhat intelligent person, and even I become mush when I think of the male lead, Edward Cullen. I cannot express to you how deep a connection this book can establish in you.
April 21st, 2008 at 3:01 pm
Wow, the amount of vag on this article is astounding.
This is just another lame teen-drama featuring pretty boys and girls from the Myspace/MTV(that’s Miscellaneous Television) generation running around and playing with “supernatural forces”…oh, and emotions.
That can be said for the books, too, I’m sure of that as you’ve all proven your devout devotion to something that must, in your minds, be a “movement” (raiding the comments on slashfilm because of a post on “twilightmoms.com”??? Seriously??) or a “fad”.
Speaking of twilightmoms.com - I’m guessing these moms are the same ones that like to dress like their kids and buy them all of the latest “hot” outfits. You know the ones who throw parties for their “little angels” and have myspace accounts and have all of their daughter’s friends’ numbers on speed dial?
Supporting this film (in it’s current state - that is, the state of the movie in the previews on MTV) is simultaneously supporting the downfall of American cinema in general. We’ve become far too focused on profit and marketability. Skaught was right, I think we he called the book and movie “popcorn books” and “popcorn movies”. They come out to sell seats and appease the immature, angsty teenage girls that they’re marketed to. And don’t give me the “I’m 40 and I love it” argument. See the part on twilightmoms above. See also term: “outlier”. The truly unfortunate thing is that, in their blind fan-frenzy, these teenage girls will all go score the movie 10/10 on IMDB and negate any truly critical scores. Not to mention all of the “OMG THIS MOVIE IS THE BEST MOVIE EVAR!!! U HAVE 2 GO SEE IT!” reviews.
Fact is, it just plain looks like a horrible movie based on a book with a highly unoriginal story.
I know I’ll get flamed for this post as has anyone who speaks out against it. Can’t stop the twilightmom war machine.
April 21st, 2008 at 3:06 pm
I must laugh at all of you.
First, let’s laugh at the columnist. I see you are blissfully unaware of the fandom explosion, but that’s fine. I can see where he comes from. I have just recently read all the books and gotten involved in this fan community. I was unaware before as well. I would suggest looking up at least some PRESS on the movie/books before making judgements. Your opinions are valid, but it’s hard to make a case for anything you are unaware of.
Second…let me laugh at these comments. Whenever you encounter any entrenched fandom, you’ll get the crazies out along with the rationals. Don’t let them speak for everyone.
Now…I don’t see a similarity between Harry Potter and Twilight in content, plot or characterization. Besides Jacob Black being similar in disposition to Ron Weasley, there is nothing alike about these books. Harry Potter contains mystery, symbolism, alliteration, and difficult twists and turns in both characterization and plot. Twilight is well written fluff. It’s an escape. It’s what I read when I want to shut my brain off. That doesn’t mean it’s a bad book. On the contrary, I pore over them. But don’t hold it up to a standard it doesn’t belong. It’s a force. It’s a break from my normal intellectual posing. It’s teen angst and vampires.
Embrace the fluff! If you are such an intellectual snob that you can’t take anything for what it’s worth, then you really shouldnt’ be reading a damned movie blog.
Finally, the fanbases of Harry Potter and Twilight are VERY similar. I actually would have never read these books if not for all of the Harry Potter people fawning over these books. Harry Potter fans love all books. We did the same thing with The Golden Compass when it got big. We read Austen like a bible. So discovering another piece of enjoyable literature is not far off. Twilight has drawn in those who love fantasy…and we’re not ashamed.
Will it be the next Harry Potter? In success only, but not in name, content, plot, style, or anything else.
And maybe you should look up some websites of the cast. They are being very generous and involved with this explosive film, causing the hype to go up exponentially. They are granting interviews with fan websites (Everyone from Stewart to the woman playing Renee), writing blogs (in the case of Mike Welch), and even doing webchats and accepting gifts! These actors are talented and know what they are getting into. And they are creating a huge follow for this film just by being so good to their fans.
Especially look up Kellen Lutz, who plays Emmett. He’s got a cult following because of how accomodating he is to the story and the fans.
how can you not get hyped? It’s been months, and I think you’ve missed the boat mister blogger man.
April 21st, 2008 at 3:12 pm
I must add:
Why all this stuff against TwilightMoms. I’m not a part as I’m 24, unmarried and not a parent, but I LOVE reading their forums. They are mature and respectful for the most part. They are moms and wives first and foremost, but everyone needs a hobby.
I work on political campaigns, does that mean you are going to stereotype my future children based on my hobbies as well.
When I meet the requirements, I’ll be happy to join their fan group.
If you were more open minded, I would provide to you some journal articles on Online Communication. I think TYLER J. doesn’t really understand how internet fan communities work.
April 21st, 2008 at 3:20 pm
I love these books and the movie will be great I’m sure.
Everyone needs to stop comparing them to HP tho! The two series are completely different and cannot be paired up as one.
They are both amazing books and successful in their own way.
April 21st, 2008 at 3:44 pm
hehe, this is funny. I haven’t been involved in a flame war for years.
I only have one thing for all you Twilight fans: Eragon :P Fun book, huge cult following of teenage girls, worst movie I have ever seen. Don’t judge it until it’s been made, okay? Maybe it will be the best damn movie ever, but most likely it won’t be. Be happy if it’s mediocre at best. Genre movies are in a lot of pain right now and unfortuantely… ah, this is pointless you’re not going to listen to me anyways so bleh :P
And for the record, I liked Eragon the book. *shrugs*
And to the very special Psappy:
a) I said that I read a few prominent movie blogs. Those are not blogs, but for the most part entertainment sites/shows. I don’t own a TV and I don’t care for talking heads. That’s why I read independent movie blogs like /film, k? Once again, first time I’ve seen this.
b) Yes, according to my logic people do clump super hero movies together because they are super hero movies. Some are good, some are bad but they are still part of the same genre. That’s what a genre is.
c) See my comments about Eragon. Nothing is set in stone, I’m a young girl and I like hot guys doing supernatural business. That’s why I watched the Covenant (which actually has nothing to do with Vampires :P)
April 21st, 2008 at 3:55 pm
“twilightmoms war machine”. applause.
April 21st, 2008 at 4:03 pm
I enjoy everyone’s comments, even the ones who dis Twilight. I’m a Twilight Mom, 26, 2 kids, college degree, and these books are the fun in my life. No matter what, you have to appreciate the whole fanatic following. I’m not saying at all that these books are literary classics, or that the movie will be around forever, but it will be successful and will be popular, I don’t think that point can be argued. So, as a study in pop culture, I’d give Twilight a little more credit. And sorry, I am with the “don’t judge it till you see it/read it” crowd.
I don’t really care if everyone will like it or not. I just feel bad for people who don’t like it, because its so fun! And they are missing out!
And when did The Hulk become a good movie?
April 21st, 2008 at 4:32 pm
well im a huge fan of twilight series n harry potter’s too
but i wouldn’t say that is th next harry potter cause is too difrent
in every single way…
but i think that in a certain way would be
for us that we grew up with harry potter, but now its finished n’ i really think that now we need something like that, but with more romance n’ all that this word means…!
don’t we??
that in this case is twilight..
i just love it
is amazing!
n i can’t wait to see the movie
really i think it would be the best movie of th month or even th year not only for teenagers, for all the people that loves romantics-accion-suspense-comedy. movies… lol
April 21st, 2008 at 4:33 pm
Actually not only teen girls are fans of the series but there’s the popular site called TwilightMOMS.com, so older people can love it too since the fandom of it has a huge following. Plus it’s much better than the Covenant. Harry Potter and Twilight are not the same but it did knock off harry potter off as # 1 in the best seller list.
April 21st, 2008 at 4:43 pm
Hello. I’m one of four in staff at forevertwilight.com and it really is obvious that you know nothing of the twilightfandom and its not surprising that you are getting seemingly ugly comments. It appears that you haven’t done any research at all on the subject and this explains the fact that you dont know why its such a big deal, also some of the comments you made. The fandom is one that is extremely strong supportive and defensive. We range from many ages (twilightmoms being an example of the older audience) and the book has affected both genders. It is harry potter to some and this movie is something that each fan is looking extremely forward to and we are looking for updates every day, explaining the imdb popularity. I hope this isn’t a harsh comment but an informal one.
Forever yours
Forever twilight
April 21st, 2008 at 7:01 pm
I luv the Twlight series and I totally can’t wait for the movie!!!!!
April 21st, 2008 at 7:02 pm
I love these books! Stephenie Meyer is an amazing author. I think Edward is really sweet, and I love him! Bella is awesome too. I can’t wait for the movie, and Breaking Dawn. YAY!!!!!! So excited!!!!!!!
April 21st, 2008 at 7:07 pm
YEAH GO TWILIGHT!!!!!!!!! I’VE BEEN A FAN SINCE THE BOOK CAME OUT IN 2005! IM COUNTING DOWN THE DAYS UNTIL IT COMES TO THEATRE!!!
April 21st, 2008 at 7:08 pm
Have you people read these books? They are AMAZING!!!! I think they may be the next harry potter. I literally could not put them down. I am very excited for Breaking Dawn, Midnight Sun, and of course the Movie. However… one note about the movie… The actor for Edward is so NOT hot. However, that is beside the point. The point is, it may be the next harry potter.
April 21st, 2008 at 7:10 pm
Hey, it’s just good, simple, harmless fun. That’s why I read the books, they’re just a good read when you wanna get away from life for a few hours. Don’t hate, if you don’t like it then you don’t have to see it, it’s as simple as that. Chill.
April 21st, 2008 at 7:13 pm
It’s nothing like the Covenant! The Covenant is terrible! Twilight is the best thing since an adequetly oxygenated atmosphere!
I’m sure it’s going to be very popular like Harry Potter, but the two don’t really have anything in common.
April 21st, 2008 at 7:19 pm
The NEW Harry Potter?
Uh NO! they are completely different and completely unique unto themselves. It’s like comparing apples to oranges (to be cliche) But GO TWILIGHT for smashing HP records! I have also been a huge fan of HP but something new is always good as HP can’t rule fiction for ever.
I’m 18 and ADORE these books. I was more then enthralled when I heard the news that Twilight was to become a movie. I then passed on the books to friends who passed them on to parents, cousins, aunt’s (not sure about any uncles as of yet) but its true, this is NOT just a teen novel. ALL age groups are currently reading them, AND boys too!!
Also, the COVENANT??? no way! this is nothing like that!!
As for Taylor Lautner, I reckon he has been so largely viewed on IMDB, because he was a crucial character that took forever to cast, so fans were eventually poping in anticipation.
I don’t personally like him playing Jacob, but I guess December 13th will finally reveal, along with the rest of the cast, how well they can play the lovely Stephenie Meyer’s imagination.
April 21st, 2008 at 7:19 pm
well, excuse me but twilight already is better than harry potter. no it is not the “new” harry potter but instead it will REPLACE harry potter.
i am a confessed fan and i adore all the books. better than anything i have read. have you ever “eaten” a book? this is like eating a book when i read it.
3 hours straight and i gasped for air while reading.
makes me feel like being in love. stephenie meyer perfectly depicts the feeling in the book. she is also creating a book from the other main character’s point of view which is AMAZING. i have read the first chapter from Edward’s point of view.
i have created a cult at my school and family which is growing steadily.
(not a cult as such but fans of the book)
no-one that has read the book has disliked it. (including my mum and dad)
so twilight is going strong.
read it.
i like all the casting choices except taylor as jacob. and i have been following the movie progress on Mtv clips.
i only wish the film came out at the same time in australia…
just read twilight. i guarantee you will L-O-V-E it!!
x
ps. taylor lautner is being searched as number 1 because he is a strange choice for the important character he is portraying. im not sure if i will like it and i was curious to see what he is like so i indeed searched him. this is not, i repeat: this is NOT because he is the hottest new young thing to hit movie screens. this is because the fans are curious as to who he is.
April 21st, 2008 at 7:21 pm
yup yup …….. well hp and twilight are diffrent!!!!!! i love twilight i cant wait for breaking dawnnn…..
April 21st, 2008 at 7:22 pm
Twilight is soooo going to kick harry potter’s ass and we know it..
Don’t get me wrong, I love Harry Potter, too. I just…. love Twilight more.
April 21st, 2008 at 7:24 pm
ok, so, i am a teenage girl who is in love with these books. HOWEVER!!!!!! i have several guy friends (straight, if that’s your pathetic argument) who really like them as well. It really is an insult to generalize and you did that in this article when you said “if your not a teenage girl then the chances are that you have probably no idea what Twilight is.”
April 21st, 2008 at 7:26 pm
I think its really funny how some of you are not liking twilight. you really should at least check out stepheniemeyer.com to see what its all about. Im 23 and am hopelessly addicted, and have been a bookworm all my life, so i know what im talking about when i say its a good book. and im no dummy when it comes to literature. say i am and i will embarass you with to kill a mockingbird efficiency. I know the movie will be a smash hit, b/c i know of the fanbase the books have and how devoted we all are. It is a wonderfully written story, and stephenie is extremely talented. it really shouldnt be said that the books are for teenage girls, and if you think that i feel really sorry for you, b/c you are missing out on a phenomenal series. its pretty closeminded that you see that label and dont want to check it out, but be righteous enough to post negatively about it. thinking about it, i have never seen that written anywhere on any fansites i check out daily that are reputable.if you are scoffing at anything twilight you will feel stupid when this movie makes history. I cant help but feel we twi-hards or twilighters whatever you want to be calld, (me personally am a twilightmom and PROUD) are 10 steps ahead of all you ppl who havent read the books yet. we are all sittin on a cloud pointin and laughing b/c you havent had the forethought to know what you are talking about before you post. so sorry b/c you are missing out on a PHENOMENAL story.
April 21st, 2008 at 7:29 pm
1. I’m 29 and I really enjoyed the Twilight series so age has nothing to do with it. But I am female, so that might. Twilight just doesn’t appeal to males as much.
2. There is nothing similar between Potter and Twilight other than Rob Pattinson. To compare them is ridiculous.
I’m a fan of both, but let’s be realistic. They share a certain level of HYPE right now, but Twilight will not be the next HP. And that’s not saying anything against the Twilight Saga. But, the numbers speak for themselves. Worldwide, the TWilight series has sold a little over 5 million copies, and the HP series - 400 MILLION. Deathly Hallows alone sold 11 million in its first 24 hours. That comment about the best sellers list always bugs me, b/c we’re talking about DH being knocked off for ONE week when Eclipse was first released and DH had been out for a month. AND I believe that DH took the #1 spot back the very next week. Be realistic Twilighters, NOTHING will top HP for many, many, many years to come b/c HP was such a publishing phenomenon, only topped by maybe the Bible.
With that being said, I do think the Twilight movie has a better chance of being a better adaptation than the HP movies. But, will they make the same amount of money? Doubtful. You’re talking about the highest grossing movie franchise ever…
April 21st, 2008 at 7:30 pm
I am a huge fan of Twilight, and I greatly enjoy the books and cannot wait until the movie comes out. I was at first skeptical of the movie being unfaithful and ruining the book, but I have since warmed up to it.
However, I do not think that Twilight in any way shape or form should be compared to Harry Potter. Harry Potter and Twilight have nothing in common other than the fact that they are both books about supernatural things and beings. It is true that Twilight had knocked off Harry Potter in the top seller list, but every book sooner or later falls off the list.
And, as one reader posted above, I get a little angry whenever someone starts comparing the two together. Not to put down the Twilight series (because I love the books!) but they don’t have the level of symbolism, foreshadowing, or characterization that Harry Potter has. So, for all those who think that Twilight is the next Harry Potter, please realize that they have virtually nothing in common.
On a less critical note, I can’t wait to read the final installment! I really hope everyone gets the happy ending they deserve.
April 21st, 2008 at 7:33 pm
I don’t really care for movies that much, but I adore books. I read on average 3 to 5 books a week, and I must say that Stephenie Meyer is probably one of the most gifted authors I’ve ever encountered. She has a unique way of drawing the reader in. Twilight made me laugh out loud, cry, and feel every poignant emotion of Bella and Edward. As a bookseller, I sell probably 3 or 4 of Meyer’s books every day I work. And it’s not just to young teen girls. Moms, Grandmothers, single working women, brothers, boyfriends, dads, teachers, librarians, and everyone in between are buying Twilight. Anyone who really reads knows who Stephenie Meyer is. And I wouldn’t be surprised that, if the movie is a quarter as good as the book, it will be as popular as Harry Potter.
April 21st, 2008 at 7:34 pm
there were so many things wrong with the article that its driving me insane but since everyone else has already talked about it I’m just going to focus on two things.
first of all, please do not say that you hate the book or will hate the movie if you have not read the book. I have no problem with peple who have read the book and did not like it. the people I have a problem with are the ones who just assume they will hate it and then make fun of people who like it. if you don’t want to read it, don’t but don’t make fun of us who love the series.
second, do not compare it to harry potter. I love both series and to me they will always be equal. but they are completly different in a lot of ways. it is your own personal opinion which you prefer, so please do not compare, just state your opinions.
thanks,
abbi
an obsessed fan.
April 21st, 2008 at 7:34 pm
I just want to says that I’m in my 20s and I LOVE these books. I was first introduced to them by a friend and they are indeed very addictive. The story line is wonderful and they can be more compared to a love story with many difficulties in it. Sort of like Romeo and Juliet. It is true that probably more women read these books but didn’t men also attend plays by William Shakespeare even though they were deeply involved with drama and romance? So that said, I think that if this movie does the books justice (all us Twilight fans are hoping so) it will certainly appeal to many audiences. These books are very often compared to the Harry Potter series (I’m a huge fan of those as well) mainly because they have done so well in sellers charts and because both authors were complete unknowns when they came out with their books. But no books could be compared to the phenomenon that is the Harry Potter series. Even Stephenie Meyer said so herself in many interviews. Nevertheless, I feel compelled to say that I am far more addicted to the Twilight series than I ever was to the HP series. Oh and werewolves are NOT portrayed as evil and it won’t be like the Covenant!
April 21st, 2008 at 7:35 pm
Personally, I don’t think I have the right to say that Harry Potter is better than Twilight considering that I have never even read the series. Harry Potter has never really appealed to me, and while I enjoy the movies, having so many will soon have a downfall. It HAS happened before.
As for saying, “Is it the next Harry Potter?” I must object, because Twilight is NOTHING like Harry Potter. How do wizards and vampires compare? They’re entirely different and although both are considered Fantasy, they’re still mainly in entirely different genres. So how is that they’re always compared? You can’t compare what’s not alike!
I find Twilight an outstanding book. Not only has the story and it’s sequels captured many around the world, but like this article says, it even knocked Harry Potter of the #1 bestseller list! I don’t know why people bash it or say, “it can never compare to Harry Potter” because it’s an wonderful book and you can’t just be prejudice against it because of that. I bet some of those who say Harry Potter is better have not even read Twilight.
Also, it’s no surprise that Twilight has been looked up so many times because fans have been dying waiting for this movie! We want to see the world we love that is Twilight come to life! However, if this movie kills the book, I bet a lot of fans would be angry. Look at Eragon for example. It got both positive and negative reactions but plenty of my friends who loved the book said the movie was horrible in comparison. I really hope it isn’t true for Twilight!
Oh, by the way, yes, I am in fact, a teenage girl. :)
April 21st, 2008 at 7:38 pm
Whoops, I meant to say I cannot say Twilight is better than Harry Potter because I have never read the Harry Potter series. Sorry!!
Oh, and Twilight rules!! I cannot wait for the movie to come out!
April 21st, 2008 at 7:39 pm
I completely think Twilight is the next
Harry Potter, or better. I’ve been reading
this book along with New Moon and Eclipse,
over and over again for sometime now.
I have already read the unedited first chapter
of Midnight Sun and am scheduled ahead of time
to get Breaking Dawn.
I funny thing is, Twilight also is not just
a teenage girl book.
Yes i am a 16 year old girl, but the only
reason i got into this book 2 years ago is
because my personal edward (my boyfriend)
got me into it, after i was with him and
he couldnt take his head out of the book.
So no, it aint for teen girls, it’s for the world!
April 21st, 2008 at 7:46 pm
The book was AMAZING. I absolutely love it I have all three books and the movie will be great I can’t wait!!!!!
Harry Potter sucks. Twilight rules. x}
April 21st, 2008 at 7:46 pm
I personally think the book is fantastic. Hopefully the movie will be up to par, though I doubt it because movies are never as good as the book. I’ve been following the news on mtv about this movie and even though the plot, characters, and just about everything else is nothing like the covenant, I can understand why you’d think it sounds like it. In the preview that was included in the article the music sounded like it was taken straight from the soundtrack of the covenant. And just to be clear, the book really isn’t just for teenage girls. Yes, I’m a teenage girl, but there’s this whole “twilight mom” fanbase out there and I was surprised the other day when one of our school’s football players saw me reading it and said he not only liked it, but was already reading the second book. It was a bit weird hearing that coming from him, seeing as he’s one of the biggest “jocks” I know, but hey, it just proves that the book isn’t limited to teenage girls, like me.
April 21st, 2008 at 7:47 pm
Well, I do agree that the “cinderella” story of the authors of the Twilight and Harry Potter series can be compared, but the stories are completely different.
Also, many moms love then too, and I have even met some Twilighting grandmas. =) I am only 15, but I assure you that the fanbase spreads into a MUCH wider range of ages.
I am very excited for the upcoming book and movie!
April 21st, 2008 at 7:47 pm
i don’t think it will be the next harry potter because TWILIGHT SO MUCH BETTER
April 21st, 2008 at 7:52 pm
These books are huge among all my friends. I absolutely love the series and I am really hoping that the movie will live up to the hype.
HP and Twilight really shouldn’t compare because, like others have said, they’re different! But I do think that Twilight will kill HP in the movie box offices just because Harry has had six movies now, and Twilight will be the first.
April 21st, 2008 at 7:52 pm
Oh. And Twilight is not the new Harry Potter. Twilight is for more of an older crowd and I actually thought the Harry Potter books were boring until I saw the movies(I had a hard time visualizing the characters in Harry Potter. Which is kind of weird considering that those in Harry Potter are humans–with powers–while those in Twilight are vampires, who SHOULD be harder to imagine…).
April 21st, 2008 at 7:53 pm
I love the books and i’m not a teen.(11) I really hope the movie is as good as the books.CAn’t wait to see it And can’t beleive some people don’t like the books.
April 21st, 2008 at 7:56 pm
someone has not been doing their homework properly… the Twilight series is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING like the covenant. Yes, they are both vampires and have super powers HOWEVER! Twilight centers on a love story between a human and a vampire… Fighting seems like a secondary subject.
to EMMANUEL MUNOZ: are we talking about the same Twilight book? because since when was the werewolves the “bad guys” they are fighting with the Cullens who are vampires to defeat another group of bad vampires… and its a shame that your girlfriend can’t get past the cast because well the movie looks as if it is going to be AWESOME!
April 21st, 2008 at 7:56 pm
Whoa, whoa, whoa. The person who wrote this article needs to get their facts straight. First off, “Twilight” is a book for all ages, yes, it is popular with teenagers, yes, it is ALSO very popular among adults. Secondly, it is NOTHING like “The Covenant.” And Thirdly, before you type up an article like this that can create major contreversy, please do some research rather than just skim a little and splurge it all on the page. I am sorry about the excess rudeness, but you guys who are just getting in on the “Twilight” wave need to understand that this book is nothing like Harry Potter, in popularity, sure, but in everything else, heck no.
Anyways, thank you.
~Sara age 15
April 21st, 2008 at 7:58 pm
I would like to say personally that i am litterally counting down the days to read the next and final book of the Twilight saga, along with the Twilight movie. I am thrilled they have decided to produce it into a movie, hopefully it will be as compelling and incredible as the book. My opinion though will always be to read the book first because the book will always be better than the movie no matter what. That doesnt mean that the movie wont be good, Im sure the movie will be incredible and be a hit in the box office but i really perfer you read the saga first, trust me on that one:) I am like obsessed and completely jealous of the love that Edaward and Bella share and just cant seem to get over it. I can actually say that the twilight saga is absoultley posistivley my favorite set of books Ive ever read. I feel releived that the actors/actresses picked to play the roles of the charcters in the movie are right on the dot. I have been checking Stephenie Meyers offical website everyday and basically any spare time i have—I told you i was obsessed—- and really wish she would come to do a sighning in Wilmington North Carolina, that would be incredible!! I would do fund raisers just to get her to come, in fact thats no a bad idea……:))
April 21st, 2008 at 7:58 pm
unless one has read the actual topic of what they’re talking about, they can’t

Seriously, the Harry Potter/Twilight comparisons need to stop! They’re both best-selling books and the similarities stop there. It’s like comparing Gossip Girl to Twilight. Completely pointless.
And there are more fans than just young teenage girls. Do some research next time
But thanks for writing this anyways. Any Twilight related stuff is amazing!

I think the real question should be will Twilight be bigger than the hit Harry Potter series? And I can bet the answer will end up being Yes once Twilight hits theaters

Please don’t say it’s the next Harry Potter. These two are different. And Twilight is not only for teens it’s for anyone and everyone. You should do better research next time. And trust me on this fandom is larger than what you think, this movie will be bringing in more revenue than HP. And the Covenant? please. What do witches have to do with vampires? Twilight has a much deeper meaning. And if you have even paid the slightest attention to the videos floating around with the cast in them you would know. And really when you write about a movie adaptation of a book you can’t just talk about the movie you really have to talk about the book as well. The movie gets your blood boiling and all of the actors have a great acting experiences. As of a matter of fact Robert Pattinson playing Edward Cullen was Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter. All of the actors are great and are orking hard on this. I understand this is a movie blog but you are talking about a book to movie adaptation so, watch what you say about the topic of twilight. The fandom is very serious. You jnow that saying don’t assume cause you make an ass out of you and me.

okay soo many people are trashing the movie, and saying it wont be big.. but im guessing alot of those people never read the book. So before you say anything about the movie, you should read the book. And people keep saying how it sjust for teens.. its not. My 40 year old mother and 70 year old grandmother and 50 year old aunt love this book just as much as any teen.

The Harry Potter series is amazing. The Twilight series is amazing. In my mind, the comparison ends there. Unless, of course, you want to compare the acting styles of Robert Pattinson in the two movies. Beyond that, I wish people would stop forcing the comparisons. There is not much that is similar between the two.
Stephenie Meyer is not the JK Rowling of the United States. Stephenie Meyer is the Stephenie Meyer of the United States.
And, sorry to break it to you, many of the readers of this series
