Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles

Great News for television geeks: Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles will be getting an second season after all. According to TV Guide, Fox informed the cast and crew on Saturday night of the renewal.

Update: Fox Entertainment President Kevin Reilly apparently made a comment earlier this week calling Terminator one of the “lead candidates” for renewal, and confirmed the fact they’ve “already started staffing on Sarah Connor. Reilly admitted that “it was an unusual season” but Sarah Connor “will end up finishing by far and away the strongest new drama of the season” while “other shows have not gotten the traction.”

Despite generally positive reviews from mainstream press, the show suffered a ratings drop from a 11.11 for the series premiere, 6.2 for the second episode, to a 5.0 for the season finale (which was actually up 0.6 points from two episodes prior). Most viewers agree that the show improved in the later episodes (which might explain the rating bump late into the season), with the introduction of Derek Thomas Reese, a Resistance fighter and the older brother of Kyle Reese, who was sent back in time by John Connor. Some fans were worried that Fox might pull the plug as the network has a history of being trigger happy.

good for them, i can’t see a season 3 happening though

Matt, you never know. If the audience continues to build in the second season, it could happen. I’m convinced that It probably doesn’t even need to build huge, just need to have an upward slope for Fox to stick with this one. I could be wrong.

    Boo…

  4. Gravatar

    Sweet, loved the show!

  5. Gravatar

Sometimes they go bad. Nobody knows why.

  6. Gravatar

I only managed to make it to the fifth or sixth episode.

    Shame on me.

I’ve updated the story above with Fox Entertainment President Kevin Reilly’s comments from earlier this week, which I was unaware of.

The show definitely got better towards the end, but with so many plot holes to fill (time travel does that yo), can they really bring it home? I’m happy they’ve got another season and I’ll definitely watch it, but I think the writers need to try a little harder this time around.

I made it to about halfway through episode one. Big fan of Terminator and T2, no TV series will ever do it justice.

i was pissed that FOX canned kitchen confidential.

Ha, that poster looks like a low-budget Ghost In The Shell poster.

I’ve never seen the show. But everyone who has, told me is was abysmal. So I just stayed away completely.

Whats the deal with stealing the borg queen design from First Contact?
If this poster is any indication of the quality of their ideas then I expect to be disappointed. This one was in the can back in 1996. Don’t you say homage…

I do kinda like the show, queen of Sparta makes for a good Sarah Conner mostly. John Conner actor guy is still kinda a pussy but lets see where they take it until the movie comes out. but then I’m done with this prequel/sequel/remake aborted reason for a halfway watchable television show.

Maybe this poster indicates that Cameron, Aka Good Female Terminator, is going to go baddie for awhile. You heard it from me first.

p.s. If they end the series with Sarah’s death that be cool.

This show is the reason I can finally put that terrible third film out of my mind as just some shoddy B-movie rip off made by Uwe Boll.

The pilot was not exceptional, but the awesome final few minutes of that episode were a good indication of the type of quality that was to come.

Some great moments of genuine tension, emotion, humour, character… Everything that the third film lacked.

I hope this continues for many more seasons to come.

If you only watched the first half of the first episode, then you’ve missed all the best stuff.

Trust me - just stick with it to the end of the first episode and I guarantee you’ll want to see more.

If they want to really push this show, they should release it in January 2009, and put it in the timeslot after American Idol.

When this show first started all I heard was bad press but I really enjoyed it and everyone I’ve met in real life that has seen it has also really enjoyed it so I’m glad to see a second season.

  17. Gravatar

You know what, i watched like 5 Eps. I kinda like it. It did get better and better. But i do agree with the person that said the writers should try harder. It can still be good!!!

  18. Gravatar

I’m surprised. I thought the show sucked balls.
That being said I only watched the first episode, but I could barely even get through that. I don’t like the actors they chose, and I thought the writing was weak.

    Awesome, Awesome!

    I can’t wait.

Define “everyone.” because everyone I’VE spoken to has told me the exact opposite.

And I agree that the show really started to pick up the pace when they introduced BGA as Derek Reese.

I’m really happy the show has a second season coming. I’m a huge fan of Sci-Fi, having watched Star Trek since the ’60’s and this show is one of the best I’ve seen. All the leads are strong, especially Lena and Summer and, most important, the stories are really thought-provoking. I love the Terminator Movies (No.2 is favourite), but think the TV series is just as good, if you keep an open mind. If you only made it part-way, try again, you’ll be in for a treat. I can’t wait for the new season!! Good going Fox! Keep it up!

Josh wasn’t there during the writers strike. Lots of good stuff hit the floor, not helping the show. I think it has a chance to be a “Star Trek” making three seasons, canceled than every one wondering why it was canceled?
    Bring it on Josh!!!!!!!

Well this is good news. I’m happy to hear the show wil return. While it isn’t the best scripted drama on tv, it’s a quality show that I thought deserved a second chance. I’m happy to hear it got one.

So here’s me admitting that my powers of prognostication aren’t always as sharp as I’d like to believe. Back when the stirke ended and I created my list of shows that would return I listed TSCC as one I believed was “highly unlikely” to be picked up for a second season. On this one I am happy to have been proven wrong. It’s not the best show on tv but it has it’s merits and I look forward to new episodes in the Fall/Winter.

Hot damn! This just made my Monday! I started watching just to see how badly they’d screw it up, and ended up LOVING the show! I think the cast was all terrific - and if they don’t bring back Summer Glau, I might just give up on the show. The finale was one hell of a cliffhanger - pretty cool that they didn’t plan it that way.

  25. Gravatar

I’m glad they picked up a second season. They left a lot of questions unanswered at the end that I’d like to see addressed in the second season. The only thing that kills me about the time travel thing, is why don’t the terminators just go waay back and kill Sara’s grand parents or great-grandparents to hedge off the threat? Story line, I know. This is a good show that actually got me to watch network TV again. I gave up on FOX/ABC/CBS/NBC except for sports because they just kept spitting out unwatchable garbage. Shows like this and The Office have started to bring be back.

    - Answer: Because then Skynet wouldn’t exist.

I think the writers nearly sunk the series themselves.. they said Sarah Conner will die of cancer on a date certain. Of course this could change.. I’m more than sure the writers understood that the future would be with John Conner, not Sarah Conner.. so there has to be more about this passing of the baton (fleshing out).. along with some more technical info about how the turk ultimately creates skynet.. right now the more you dance around the mythology without defining it.. the less credibility you give to it.. We also know there is a futility to this period of time.. they ultimately fail to stop Armageddon.. but the writers can focus upon how this helps humanity ultimately win the war… Good Luck writing that up.. they’ll need it.. Also, to keep within budget parameters they are not quite diverse in their casting keeping to a one city/region.. but this is war of humanity.. other locales will be necessary (uk, europe, asia)(possibly the international space station)/space.. or you risk keeping a pitiful audience share into the second series.

  28. Gravatar

“- Answer: Because then Skynet wouldn’t exist.”

What do you mean? SkyNet’s existence doesn’t depend on Sarah Connor’s, nor John’s existence.

“What do you mean? SkyNet’s existence doesn’t depend on Sarah Connor’s, nor John’s existence.”

Think again, If skynet hadn’t sent back the first terminator, then reece wouldn’t have been sent back, stopping john conner ever being born, and due to this, the first terminator would never have been sent back, and therefore skynet would not have been reverse engineered from the terminator remains.
Skynet and John Conner require each other for their mutual existance!

Will summer glau plays again the character of Cameron?
